La pesca is one of the best Mexican seafood restaurants that I have tried. You can tell the restaurant is very clean and the staff are always super welcoming. The horchata tastes great and is homemade which is why I always order it as it's not too sweet. My favorite dish has been the 7 Mares soup and their green hot sauce which is super good. The salsa always tastes fresh and spicy and tastes great with the chips. Another thing was that the food came out pretty fast. I recently came to La Mesa for a record store event across the street and I saw this taco restaurant. I decided to come for some food and drinks while I wait. The corn got my attention right away! I thought it was fairly priced at $5. It was pretty good but I wish they would've added more of the ingredients, there was missing some. The taco was okay. Came back to City Tacos after previously leaving a 2 star review, mainly because my son really wanted to give it another shot. I'm glad we did. The person who took our order was friendly, the place was clean, and I appreciated that the menu clearly listed everything included in each taco. I ordered the surf and turf and the birria taco. Both were tasty, but the birria stood out for me. It had a really nice kick and ended up being my favorite. That one alone would bring me back. WOW I know there are a couple of these around I was at the La mesa one and have to say everything on the menu looked fantastic. I had the chili relleno taco and it was more than great. My friends had the Mexicali and everything looked so delicious. Service was fast and the guy answered every question we had and was fast. My friends said I had to try City Tacos and mannnn I'm glad I did! The tacos down to the tortilla were all so delicious. Even the tortilla is tasty! I love that they have a salsa bar and self serve water. It keeps me from bothering the staff. The staff did all work hard and even cleaned up our trash. My least favorite taco was the birria since it was a little fattier than I was used to. The creamy green sauce was a favorite of mine and I enjoyed the cilantro. Went here on Friday 3/6 Was really craving some tacos and a place with only tacos on the menu I thought ya know had to be good. Unfortunately that was not the case, I got birria, carne asada, and fried fish. I will say the fish taco was definitely the best, good sauce and good fish. The birria was flavorless and I find it weird no consome which makes the birria taco. The carne asada was super cold when I got it, which a huge scoop and a very bland guacamole. They do have a cute little patio in the back and salsa bar. The salsa was okay. The staff was nice and it was pretty busy so I may could have just ordered the wrong thing. Unfortunately, the evening ended on a very disappointing note. After we finished eating, the manager came over to our table and rudely said, "Y'all got to go!" We were honestly shocked. Yes, they were scheduled to close in less than 20 minutes, and we completely understand that employees are ready to wrap up after a long night. But there are SO many respectful and professional ways this could have been handled. A simple, "Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up that we'll be closing in about 20 minutes," would have been perfectly fine. Even, "Guys, we've had a long night and we'll be shutting things down soon," would have gotten the message across without making paying customers feel like they were being thrown out. We weren't being loud. We weren't being disrespectful. We weren't causing a disturbance. We were simply a family enjoying time together after purchasing our meals. As a business owner myself, and someone who owns a bar, I understand closing time and the desire for your staff to get home. But I also understand customer service. If one of my managers spoke to paying customers the way we were spoken to, I would consider it completely unacceptable. Customers deserve basic courtesy and respect, even 20 minutes before closing. It's unfortunate because what should have been a fun memory during my niece's wedding celebration instead left my family with a very poor impression of City Tacos La Mesa. The tacos may be what gets people through the door, but management and customer service are what determine whether they come back. City Tacos needs to do better. read more
