The place to go when you want comfort food (key word: comfort food and not Michelin-star food lol) Mexican food in the College area side of San Diego. I know I should stay away from this but they make a really good hot Cheetos burrito--I've tried the same kind at another Mexican spot and it just felt like they did and added too much to their version. I usually get mine with adoboda at Don Roman. From what I remember, their California burrito and birria tacos are good here as well. read more

Service was great! They offer a lot of items! Open pretty early. Just came in to grab something small. Got the Tuesday specials so one fish taco and one potatoe taco along with one of each of their sauces. The sauces were pretty good. The tacos were fine but not amazing, the potatoe one Ed good but the cheese inside was not melted although it was deep fried. The fish taco was mediocre but the fresh toppings helped it. The fish was bland and this tortilla was stale. Perhaps it was just this morning? I didn't get anything else so can't really say. I will try again for lunch where perhaps the items will be more fresh. They charge a cc fee. read more

Hell yeah, digging this place! So, as a first time customer I didn't want to take any chances with the sexy items. You know, things like carne asada burritos, loaded fries... stuff like that. My policy is to give new (to me) taco shops what I call the baseline test. What's that, you say? Great question! The baseline test is simple and it focuses on the most basic of ingredients. 1. Green sauce Yep, a simple bean, rice, and cheese burrito will give you a solid representation of the rest of the menu and Don Roman's BRC did not disappoint. The construction was good, the ratio was spot on, and the sauce was on point. Had 2 beef combo. And let me tell you it was simple & good & fresh. The shells although I enjoy crunchy these were dangerously crunchy! Had to chew slowl & carefully to avoid cutting up the inside of mouth. My daughters got 4 rolled with Cheese & sour cream, bean & cheese with rice & 6 mini carne asada which they both thoroughly enjoyed. Everything was flavorful & correct as ordered. Service was attentive & he greeted & spoke to me about them having another location in the south bay off Palomar. Which I thought I had seen so I asked & it was confirmed. The inside is small & quaint about 4-5 tables & tvs to watch if interested & an area to self serve water. Located in in a busy strip mall in the Rolando/ College area off El Cajon Blvd & College Ave. I will say it was hood to revisit in person & not have any complaints. Stopped by here for a quick lunch to go. The space inside isn't that big and a bit messy, but most people get their food to-go as well. I ordered a California Surf burrito at the front, and waited for about 7-8 minutes before it was bagged up hot and fresh. There were sauces on the side, but the waiter also put some in the bag. It costs about $11 which was a pretty good price for the size of the burrito, it legit takes 2-3 meals before it could be finished. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the shrimp was fresh. I also liked that there weren't too many potatoes inside. I'd be down to come again and try some of the other burritos such as the Don Roman burrito. read more

Only waited about 10 minutes for our order: a cheese enchilada combo and a California burrito. The burrito was mostly tortilla and the meat was very dry, unfortunately. No option to select/add hot sauce on the doordash menu. It simply doesnt exist. I had to go back and check menu for hot sauce option as there was NO hot sauce included with our order. I felt a sense of panic as it started to sink in.....mexican food with NO salsa. Called restaurant to inquire about where to find sauce option on DD menu. I was informed there is no such option and they usually include it with every order. The girl stated she didnt know who packed my order as she was on break. I asked if she could locate employee who did and her response was, "what is it that you want us to do" ...with a little attitude...how about you add it to the DD menu so your staff can be reminded since apparently a reminder is necessary!!!! Me and my family came here and ordered 2 orders of 3 carne sada tacos and the guacamole and the beef were cooked perfect enough and the tortillas fresh and smooth. Ordered the food in shop and was maybe 8-10 mins within getting our food . Not really that long. Love my local Mexican restaurant and don romans never disappoints! My fave is the surf and turf fries, second fave is Cali burrito. But honestly, can't go wrong with anything on their menu. This place has some of the meatiest tripa tacos I have had. I write this review because I keep comparing different tripa tacos from other places (not in SD but the Bay Area) and they keep falling short. Not only is the tripe nice and crispy, it fills the entire corn tortilla with extra bits falling off. Pairing the taco Tuesday deals with an abundant meat selection, this place is amazing if you want different, more unique cuts of meat on your taco. I'm easily able to eat six of these tacos. The service is always nice when I go and it's just a small little taco shop. Bonus that it's near the college campus so students don't have to drive too far for a good taco Tuesday. read more

I mean, I under salt when cooking but I usually have a heavy hand so it comes out right but this was bland. Not any where near what you're expecting. Had the Vegetable Burrito. Chose Beans, Cheese, Crema, Salsa Mexicana and Potatoes. This along with the "Red Salsa" were the stars of the meal. Vegetable Burrito, decent with the Red Salsa Potato rolled tacos, bland Fish tacos, bland (which the kid loves from the normal place) Green Salsa, super acidic and just makes things taste off Red Salsa, good Horchata/Jamaica(drink) were just gross. Tasted overly syrupy. In fact, came home to add cinnamon to the Horchata and even after using a hand frother, the cinnamon wouldn't mix but instead floated on what look like an oil slick...not actual oil but that's how it looked. Safe to say that this is one of the best choices that my drunken self has ever made. They had a variety of options from breakfast burritos, tacos, combination plates, to some specialty fries.
