This place has been in my neighborhood for years but I've never been. I heard they had good cheeseburgers. Stopped by on an early afternoon for one. Fast and Friendly service. Cheeseburger was great and reasonably priced. Went back for a second one a few days later. Definitely check them out. read more

Parking is easy, and there's a lot for it. The owner is super sweet. This is a ma/pa shop. An older gentleman takes your order. I love to order the California burrito, and my partner loves to order the menudo. The prices are reasonable here. read more

Just had a really good Carne Asada Burrito. The meat was grilled well (see char on the meat) and tender. It must have been marinated in something too cause the last few bites were (flavor not spice). I live nearby in Talmadge so I'm really glad I took a gamble on this one. The exterior doesn't match the food. I paired it with their green salsa which was pretty mild but gave it some levity/brightness. Oh and value is there for sure. I'll definitely be coming back. We need more places like this nearby. read more

With so many Mexican restaurant options is usually easier to stick to the one you know. We eat Mexican food pretty regularly and usually go to the same places. But we decided to try out Salsa Brava and it did not disappoint. Food was very tasty, well cooked, staff super nice and very affordable. Prices are hard to beat, specially nowadays that everything is super expensive. We went for the first time last weekend and came back today. We will make this place one our regular places too from now on. Worth trying out! read more

This taco shop is dirty I saw one of the cooks poking his nose in the kitchen while I was waiting on the drive thru. They saw me pull up and it took them forever to attend me. I had to honk and out of know where two other people in the kitchen stand up and attend me. I said "NEVERMIND I'M OUT OF HERE" this place is nasty. I wouldn't trust it, I know if I would've ordered they would've spit on my food or idk what they would do but for sure my gut feeling had an idea of how dirty this shop is. ZERO STARS IF I COULD RATE IT LOWER ! Not Recommended read more

I've been coming to this place for about 28 years. It's always been good food. Authentic Mexican food. Home cook meals

This place is so good which is why it is always busy! If you're not super patient then it might be best to place an order over the phone for pick up. I got the chicken quesadilla and they were bomb!! The rolled tacos are good and burritos are delicious. I'm always trying new things. Going to try the mini tacos next and I'm sure they won't disappoint. Definitely one of the best taco shops on SD. I promise you they are not all the same. This place is delicious, clean, and the staff there are super awesome! :) You get the pop and moms treatment. Makes me feel like food at home. read more

Salsa Brava is located on the always colorful El Cajon Boulevard. As I was traveling to S.B., I saw a guy crossing the street dancing as if he were straight out of a Morris Day video. Slightly obscure reference to some possibly, I know, so YouTube "Jungle Love" and you'll see what I mean. Aw, what the hell - I'll do the work for ya! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szlejykEhQ4 Salsa Brava (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/0BPYMVaOLIu5_LI2cACPlw?select=zNV3w9at2M2ejWTIMvjfjA) has a tinted (and probably bulletproof) window that blocks your view to the kitchen area. What exactly are they trying to hide? Are they cooking in the nude? Are they doing lines of coke (that's street slang for cocaine) off of their burritos? I'm hoping that they're holding female midget jello wrestling matches back there but I don't think that's the case. Whatever they're doing back there, they're all very nice when they come out from behind their shield to help the common folk like myself. They don't have pollo asado but the guy behind the counter said he'd grill the shredded chicken for me and that it's "very good." It wasn't - it was only good. Their carne asada was forgettably average. Their breakfast burrito comes with hash browns which included the thinnest cuts of bacon I've ever seen/chewed wif my teef. Decent price for some good taco shop!!!! Carne asada is really good!!! My favorite is carne asada fries with added adobada meat FIRE!!!!

I love this little place. So far everything I've tried has been awesome. Seems family owned, the prices are great, the staff welcoming. Only thing I would change is to stuff the burritos a little more. (needs more vegis and such) read more

Salsa Brava is going down. They have generously increased their prices while providing crap food. Options for Paleo or low carb lifestyles is vacant from the menu. They have taken the delicious Salmon with black beans and roasted vegetables off the menu which was one of the few healthy and delicious items they had. Since the Salmon was no longer available, I ordered the Chicken Cobb which was always delicious and filling. The chicken breast size used to be a good 5-6 oz and had real bacon. Now the chicken breast is maybe 4 oz, if that, and was dry and tasted like it was stored in an old shoe before serving. The bacon was some sort of synthetic piece of crap that could best be described as a dog treat. No eggs on the "Cobb" salad which is a primary ingredient. I have had much more superior entrees at our local Hispanic owned restaurants. I waited 5 minutes before the bartenders acknowledged my arrival as they were too busy gabbing with friends and employees at the other end of the bar. The manager is still walking around in a mask!!?? Are they trying to send us their corporate message? Be afraid, be very, very afraid BS. Just a side note: Perhaps Salsa Brava chefs and corporate decision makers should attend an authentic Mexican culinary class. We vote with our wallets friends, do not support these corporate scum who seem to think we will accept such low standards in food service for the population. I'm just going to watch the Salsa Brava gringo empire crash and burn. And I hope you will too. One star on this rating is far too generous! read more

One of the best mom and pop Mexican taco shops in SD. From tostadas to enchiladas to to carnitas and carne asada, it is all good, especially the horchata. And they are the nicest people in the world. Don't let the neighborhood or exterior concern you, this ain't some tourista cantina with strolling mariachis but you can't beat the food or the people. read more

Well, its possible that a mexican joint can get a few extra stars but this one was lacking something. Torta and Carne Asada Fries, It was good but not memorable. The Torta de milanesa was tasty not dry. Seasoned nicely. and breaded well. but greasy. I mean greasy! and not the kind where you want to like it off your arm as the juice slides down, but oily and nasty. The carne asada fries. well it was mediocre. fresh salsa, some cheese, and that was it. eh. read more

This place has been around for over 20 years and there's a reason why!!! It's a mom & pop shop that really makes everything fresh for you, every ingredient tastes like it was properly prepared, not just sitting around like so many other Mexican food places do. Don't let the look of the place or the location throw you off, because when it comes to delicious Mexican food at extremely reasonable prices, Salsa Brava delivers!!! Anything with their beans is delicious, as is their selection of tortas and rolled tacos are all consistently amazing. If you're in the area or just want something fresh, cheap and yummy, come here! read more

So I used to live down Estrella ave, a block away from Salsa Brava. I also used to work at the House of Motorcycles across the street, so I know this place well. To be honest, most of the food doesn't separate itself from other shops, it's comparable to the average Mexican food joints you will undoubtedly come across when in San Diego... ...but the adobado burrito? Check it; I made drive from Pacific Beach to get it many times [when I'm visiting]. PB to East San Diego is not a short drive. When I lived there, I tried probably two dozen different adobado burritos, and Salsa Brava was never beat in my book. It may be silly to base a whole review on one item, but I'll do it. Hell, in my profile, it's the last thing I want to eat before I bite the dust. If you're looking for solid Mexican food, Salsa Brava, or even Tacos Si Senor across the street, won't disappoint, nor will it thrill. But if you want to shit fire and have it be worth it? Adobado burrito. read more

The Chefs recipe for Adobada is top notch! I used to drive 20 miles avoiding all other joints along the way to eat there. I have guacamole added to them. Very nice lady at the register too. Moved to Fresno 3 years ago. While visiting San Diego it was a Must that I stopped there. The lady recognized me and said "long time no see". I normally used to say the usual but after 3 years I told her adobada tacos. Sat down, and the lady came with a plate with the tacos with guacamole that I forgot to mention at the register. Outstanding! This action alone led me to get a Yelp account. They provide stocked to go trays if eating in the comfort of your home is what you prefer. read more

I really miss this place. A decade ago i lived in the neighborhood and would eat here a couple of times a week. The breakfast burritos were the best I had ever had -- fluffy eggs, fresh tortilla, fresh salsa, freshly made hash browns -- I still think about them. The camarones diablos burritos were excellent, the adoba, the california burrito -- all if it I really miss now that I'm on the East Coast. Got to know the Sr. M. and the rest of his family -- I hope it's still the same folks running this place. Random funny story, I went there one day to pick up some lunch and a local rapper was filming clips for a music video using the SB as a backdrop. Because that place is the real deal! read more

myPley: This place is in the ghetto. Matter fact, if I did not take any spanish in hs or college I would not have been able to order because the workers did not even know what 'hi, how are you' meant. So I chopped it up in spanish and ordered a California burrito con todos y dulce. Paid for it, ate it, and enjoyed it. The seasoning could use an improvement, beside that, I am excited to try their tortas read more

First, a bit of advice: unless you want to sit in an unappealing, brightly-lit room with a perfect view of El Cajon Blvd., get your food 'to go'. Oh, yes, the food...it's quite good. And cheap. And the help is friendly. There are other taquerias within a block or two of this one, but Salsa Brava is the best of the bunch. read more

3 stars= A-OK Just randomly picked the place last week in search of good fish tacos with my mom. The place next door didn't look as hole in the wall so I figured this was the legit place to go. The salsa bar was something to be desired. It didn't seem like it was being kept cool in any way and had 2 options; Rojo or/or verde. I got a fish taco and carne asada street taco. Mom got a fish taco and carnitas street taco. Fish taco looks pretty and full, but it was a fish stick and lacking in flavor. The street tacos however... I'd go back for those if I was in the area. read more

Not really thrilled with this place. They seem to have a huge selection of food, ranging from burgers to kosher hot dogs but the main focus here is Mexican food. The place was very warm but there was a decent cross breeze through the main part of the dining area. The dining area itself is very clean and large. I was somewhat amused that many of the tables said "Papachino's Italian Food" on them.... you'd think Salsa Brava would have taken care of that with at least tablecloths or something. The burrito was very hot, but tasted just okay. I couldn't really taste the cheese. I definitely was not a fan of the chicken rolled tacos- they were quite mushy inside and I found a piece of bone or gristle in it. I picked something out of the shell that seemed vaguely edible, if at all. and an hour later as I write this, and after a much-needed trip to the bathroom, I still can't quite shake this sickly feeling I have. So, Jeff.....why didn't you give the place one star? Well, it was clean, service was adequate and the food was okay. It just wasn't 3-star okay. read more

This is my favorite taco shop in the neighborhood. The couple that runs this restaurant serves really authentic home style food. My favorites are the Milanesa plate, seasonal caldo de pollo, burrito de pollo con mole, and bean and cheese burrito. Their menu is very robust and they don't offer everything on the menu every day, but any Mexican food you order is bound to be outstanding! The ambience isn't the best, but the food more than makes up for it. I highly recommend this taco shop. read more

Ask them to make you a veggie burrito con papas (with potatoes) and they'll whip you up a burrito the memory of which will be retained for weeks thereafter. The owners/staff are very friendly and are willing to accommodate us vegans to some degree. I obtain burritos of the aforementioned variety quite frequently, and the quality is fairly consistent. read more

You've gotta' love it when the tortilla is fresh, the fish is crispy, the owner couldn't be nicer and the salsa is anything but ordinary. There's no shortage of quality Mexican food in San Diego, or even along this stretch of El Cajon. But bravo for Salsa Brava! read more

Rude and slow service! I just had one question and the lady at the counter snarled at me. I ordered their chicken breast sandwich w/ cheese and a dr. pepper drink but she gave me a sprite. She also got my friend's drink wrong. My food came out wrong. Who puts horseradish on their chicken breast along w/ cheese?! Disgusting! The fries were also hard! I ate the fries because I had to take my meds but I took 4 bites of my burger and that was it! I will not be coming back! Can't wait for Tacos si Señor to open back up!! read more
