Been going at least once a month now. It's always been good but now, discovered 1/2 off wine bottles on Wednesday's lol. Anywhere from patio to dining in is excellent. We came here because it was highly rated, but we have yet to figure out why. The shrimp we ordered came dry and overcooked, the oysters were decent but for a "seafood and oyster bar" they only have one variety of oysters. The fish and steak tacos were both bland, with bizarre taste compositions (the fish tacos had cheddar cheese and the steak was marinated in something that came out bitter). I've been to the other Brigantine also a few times and every time I have been disappointed. But the La Mesa location literally takes the cake! Awesome customer service, attentive, staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a wonderful experience. Ambiance is nice and quiet, the weekends with birthdays can get a bit louder but still enjoyable. Reservations are respected, cocktails and desserts are magnificent. Brigantine is a treasure among the hundreds of seafood restaurants in San Diego. There are few restaurants that could match the quality of the experience that you'll find here, from the nautical ambience to the delicious drinks and fantastic food. Our waiter, Tyler, was beyond amazing. We had a great time chatting with him and it was clear that our neighboring tables were loving their time with him as well. He was so attentive, charming, and accommodating, and was truly the greatest factor to making our time at Brigantine great. The calamari is fantastic! Not at all chewy -- it was soft all the way through, with a flavorful thin layer of breading on top. But what you really have to try is their jalapeño white dip; it's to die for. By recommendation from Tyler and the manager I ordered the sea bass special. And they did not disappoint! The sea bass was soft and perfectly cooked, topped with creamy artichokes, capers, and grilled asparagus. The sea bass portion was so generous I couldn't finish it! I would highly recommend the special for any other seafood lovers out there -- it's not on the menu, so be sure to ask for it! My boyfriend (not so much a seafood lover) was chowing down on his wagyu burger, so I think it's safe to assume that it was delicious. Sadly I was way too full to order any dessert. But that means that I'll have to come back again to try that mud pie! Once again a great place to go for dinner. We came here a day before Father's Day and enjoyed the meal and service. For a special evening out, this is our go to. The Brig is always a nice go to. I went in for fish and was pleasantly surprised they had sea bass on the fresh sheet. It was amazing and prepared perfectly! I'm a regular for the tacos but will definitely return for the sea bass! Note to manager, your bar staff was discussing how they cut themselves on something near or in the sink often. We came here for dinner with 6 of our other friends. This was my first time at this location. I forget how much I enjoy the Brig. This time our waiter was Forrest, and he was phenomenal! He was very well versed in the menu and gave honest and insightful feedback when we asked for suggestions. Our table ordered everything from calamari, vegetarian, sea food and steak. Each plate was gorgeous. Personally I had the scallops. Which were prepared with Brussel Sprouts and prosciutto. The combination was spot on perfect. The sweet of the scallop with the savory of the prosciutto, the crunch of the Brussel Sprouts. It was indeed the perfect plate, well balanced in texture, flavor and composition. TallGirl ordered the filet. Which was cooked, as requested and exactly as expected. We were celebrating some promotions, which Forrest somehow found out. He surprised us with dessert for the newly promoted. It was so kind. Forrest is not new to fine dinning. He was professional, prompt, courteous and kind. My wife and I eat here on a fairly regular schedule. We are always happy with the food, and the waitstaff are very good. The restaurant is mostly an open space, so the noise level can be loud at time. I do have an issue with the check-in desk person for today's visit. I made a reservation for brunch and as always, requested a booth. Upon arrival we were checked in and taken to a table, not a booth, in the area, where most of the tables were set up for large parties, with no booth in sight. I informed the hostess we had requested a booth. She checked with the person at the front desk, who OK'd the change, then wanted to put us in a small booth very close to the waitstaff work area, when there were many other, better options available. I looked around the room and saw almost all the regular booths not occupied, so we asked for a window booth, away from the noisy work area. This is not the first time we have had this issue here. The host/hostess desk needs to step up their game a bit, look at the information on the reservation and attempt to honor requests. Once seated, our server Ryan ( he gets 5 stars ), was great and took good care of us, and our meals, Crab Cake Benedict and Coconut French Toast, were delicious. read more

I assumed it being happy hour, would still get a discount. Friend finally showed up. We ordered: She had margarita, said it had too much OJ in it..?? So ordered a glass of wine later. I had calamari and potatoes skins, she had a crispy fish slider with FF. Food was good. All $6, a plate. Great deal. Then I ordered desert for birthday, strawberry cheese cake to share. It was $10. A bigger piece served than expected and it was dense. Very filling. Next time Is go for the mud pie or creme brulee. Our server, Kim was EXCELLENT. I made a point to tip her well. However, to my SHOCK, when getting the bill, my "called drink", a Manhattan was $17.50, TRIPLE the happy hour price. I thought it might be double but not triple. It's the most I ever paid for ONE drink in my life. You can get a half bottle of good bourbon for that amount. Highway ROBBERY. So I give ** for food, ** for service but minus ** for drink price..
