They are very organized during the pandemic. Then again they always were. The line late afternoon near closing time moved quickly. I picked up the apple pie for $20, bag of crisp chocolate chip cookies for $6 and pint of grape tomatoes for $6 along with an apple cider half gallon for $6. Their products are always top notch. So far, I had a couple of the cookies and they were delicious! There's a reason people preorder their holiday pies here. If I were closer, I'd pick one up for Thanksgiving. This has been on my list of places to visit for years now. Lots of great reviews and pretty photos to boot but our visit was overall, quite underwhelming. Given perhaps that this was a grey winter's weekday - our early morning visit had us faced with just a few choices on offerings and a single gentleman working the outside stand. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed. It did not have the feel of a bright, bountiful and bustling farm store. There were just a few little containers of fruit and veggies strewn about, and just a smaller selection of baked goods available. And while the items we purchased were rather yummy, the experience had me feeling a bit robbed of the overall experience I had imagined. They had paper menus on clipboards, listing the different pies, scones, breads and muffins for sale. The gentleman literally didn't say a word - no greeting, and simple mumbles when we ordered items. He wasn't necessarily rude but nor was he welcoming in the least. (But hey, cold winter, standing outside all day waiting on a slow stream of a few customers - maybe I don't blame him entirely ...) We had the Raspberry Peach Pie later that day with dinner. They are famed for their pies and I will give them that : the pie was clearly freshly baked and homemade with a chock full of fruit. The pie dough itself was a bit on the mushier side and many in our party did not like the fact that it was so tart and sour. Personally though, I much prefer tart and fresh fruit as opposed to pies overloaded with sweet syrups and sugars, and therefore enjoyed it. But keep in mind - if you're thinking of a more sweet, decadent dessert that appeals to the masses - their fruit pies may not be universally fitting. Their muffins were pretty good. Nothing amazing but also, still better quality than some plastic wrapped deli buy. We also took home some other breads (loaf) but haven't tried those yet. They do sell coffee which is self serve at a little coffee station on the side, and they offer free apple cider in smaller cups, also self serve. Perhaps this place warrants a proper visit during the summer months when the bounty is full and they have more product in anticipation of bigger, busier crowds. But if they're going to stay open all-year, I think that they need to still put in an equal effort during the off season as well. Whether that's by supplementing their menu accordingly for season-appropriate items, or by adding some holiday fun flair or something. It's always important to look at the more recent or lower starred reviews because many locals and those that had frequented in the past, say that things have changed here. Not the same homemade quality and prices skyrocketing. If convenient to us, we may give them another try for smaller items (not pie!), but won't be going out of the way for it. read more

My mother and sisters waited in line for nearly 30 minutes on a Saturday and brought home a few pies for all of us. I got a piece of the apple pie and a piece of raspberry peach pie. Both had golden, flaky, delicious crust. Both had filling that was satisfying, not nauseatingly sweet like pies you'd get elsewhere. I almost felt like I was cheating. I've occasionally gotten pies from Briermere Farms throughout the last perhaps 8-9 years. I'm actually shocked to find I've never left a glowing review before for that...I am sorry. I even ventured out to try other pies...i.e. apple rhubarb and another fruit pie I can't quite remember (hey it was a long time ago). This was a big deal to me because I pretty much hate all other fruit pies. When I say pie....I mean APPLE. However, each pie delicious! We have, on a few occasions, dropped by in the late fall to freeze pies for the holiday season. This summer we've visited Riverhead quite a few times with our twins. Pie is always on my mind! But we end the day way too late and next thing you know, they're closed. Today on our way over to Peconic River Herb Farm, I made it a point to stop here first. The line was long as it always will be...because when you make pie THIS good...the demand is high. They practiced safety protocols. Masks, gloves. Line has markers for 6 ft. They were extremely organized and had plenty of workers who kept the line zooming by. I can't imagine I waited for than 8-10 minutes despite how many people were waiting. As anyone who knows the North Fork will tell you (repeatedly), Briermere is the place to go for pies. As a baker myself, I'm usually a skeptic about farm stand pies. But we went for it. Apple crisp, peach raspberry, and peach-blueberry cream. Wow. Just wow. My favorite was the peach raspberry- the crust was so delicious! The crumble on the apple crisp was unique, almost like a snickerdoodle cookie. And the cream in the fresh fruit pie was outrageous. Briermere is a Northfork of Long Island staple! We were out East for the day for some fresh veggies at Lewin, winery stops, and an eventual end in Greenport. The efficiency of Briermere in the midst of a pandemic is actually quite brilliant! There's an initial line that filters into separate "pens" that permits social distance among customers. We arrived knowing we would get an apple crisp pie and were in and out in probably 2 minutes flat! These pies come fresh, with an option for frozen if you have a long drive or need some to cut into later in the week! The Good: The person who helped me so nice! They made sure I had everything I wanted before he rung me up. The corn was AMAZING! It was sweet and full of corny flavor. The Bad: Long lines caused a slight hazard for the people waiting in them. Since there were so many people, the line ended up in the small parking lot. While the flavor is nice and crust is thick and also good, this get a one star because the filling is closer to applesauce than to apple pie. If there is one thing besides taste that distinguishes an apple pie, it's the quality of the apples used. If you like decent size cut pieces of apple in your pie, stay away from this one. NOT ONE noticeable piece of apple in this slop. I feel duped because of all the hype surrounding this place. I read a LI article revolving around the North Fork and mentioned you must go to this bakery. Must have beef written by a relative. I could not have been more disappointed. I could get a better apple pie at any of my favorite bakeries in Nassau county and not have paid $20 each. They certainly did not use proper baking apples that keep most of their form when baked and used a soft and fleshier type since these are the ones that turn to applesauce. I got two pies for $40 and both same. Very disappointed. Next time I am out there, I will try one of the orchards or farmstand pies. Certainly cannot be worse. read more

Of course i'm going to give this place 5 stars, how could I not. The people who work here are very friendly and the fruits and veggies looked wonderful (a little expensive though) but let's talk about the pies! On any given day, they have such a large selection of pies that a person could get dumbstruck. I know I was! It took me a while to decide. I finally decided on cherry/raspberry because it looked interesting and i've never had raspberry in a pie. I can tell you now, it was very very good! It was perfect and i don't give out that word much so don't take that lightly. While I was up at the counter, I saw bags of chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies so I bought a bag of each. I'm not much of a chocolate chip cookie person but these were pretty good. The oatmeal raisin was fabulous! They had a good amount of vanilla extract in them and it made them taste better than your run of the mill oatmeal raisin cookies. I wish I had a bigger family, I would have bought 2 pies! So I think the price tag for an artisanal item is worth it ($20). When I brought this pie over my in laws they were ecstatic to have what they say is the best pie on Long Island, usually reserved for the holidays.
