If you are reading this review instead of getting on the line to order you're already wasted too much time. I didn't know what to expect when the suggestion came up to come here, or if I thought I could find anything to satisfy my ice cream fix from the looks of the old school store front. But I'm so glad I was 100% proven wrong, because this is a hidden gem and needs to stay that way to keep lines from forming. As soon as you walk in you could tell there were too many delicious choices to narrow down into an order including pralines and cream, banana nut crunch and bartman. And if something doesn't quite fit your fancy, you can choose to add toppings to your mix from the large variety of options. The line moves fast, and the friendly staff are super helpful and ready to answer questions. The menu also provides favorite concoctions and sundaes. If we could give zero stars we would. We have not been here in over ten years and we are sorry we went back. We wanted to get our granddaughter an ice cream treat for the first time since she is a toddler, and thought this would be a great choice...and instead we were disgusted. The person behind the counter was filthy and dirty. The person's shirt was so stained you couldn't tell the color. Their hair looked like it had bugs in it and then when they opened their mouth there were barely any teeth. Not wanting to hurt their feelings, we ordered a small vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. Their hands were filthy, they looked like they had not been washed in a year...and when they put the cover on the ice cream their fingers and hands were all over the ice cream itself. We paid the $6 and change and left and went home and threw it away. Never ever going back. There are plenty of ice cream venues in the area that value cleanliness in the facility and cleanliness in the people they hire. Beware!!! read more

It was one of those days only ice cream could make better. You know, those long days with no end in sight. "Ice Cream Cottage" was in my bookmarks for a long time. Today I was in the area and needed some soothing. The parking lot is small, so make sure you get there before the crowed. I wasn't so lucky, so I had to park on a side street. The place had a lot of people outside and they all looked happy. The building is small and feels like it has a lot of history. If those walls could talk, what would they say. Inside, it looks similar to another popular ice cream chain. Down to the Ice cream cookies. Ice Cream Cottage seems to have more selections, but I was there for soft serve. But I would have to wait, the staff seemed to move very slow. In fact, there was one person ahead of me, but I still waited. Finally one of the three employees asked to help. I didn't waste time and ordered a waffle cone with soft vanilla. I wanted more ice cream, but for the price, I didn't complain. I just took it and sat outside. I must say, it was okay. It was a strong second to the main chain ice cream shop. I did like it. I think maybe next time I will try their specialties. It might make the difference. I don't want anyone thinking I didn't like the ice cream. I definitely liked it. Visited this establishment today, and ordered a pralines and cream in a cup, and my significant other had a strawberry cheesecake cone. The ice cream was delicious (better than Mr. Softee) and the price is much better too. Significantly cheaper. We got the same thing from Mr. Softee and it was almost $20 bucks. Visit Date: February 20, 2021 I stopped here with my son on the way back from our trip to the children's museum of the east end. It was halfway between going back to where we had to be and the children's museum so it was a good rest point/stop. The young guys behinds the counter were so patient, so polite..my mind was blown. Nasty customer ahead of us, we were high maintenance with 5 girls who needed a whole bunch of "tastes" before we could make a decision, and a very demanding person who tried to skip the line to pick up a cake. Whoever was working today around 4:30pm, they were amazingly kind & patient. The icecream was Fantastic! We will definitely be back. It's a long drive for us, but it was worth it. So after hearing about "the best ice cream on Long Island" we decided to give Ice Cream Cottage a try on a hot summer Sunday night. Upon arrival it was obvious this place was very crowded (which is usually a good sign) but after walking in it was like this place is trying to simulate what being in a tiny can of sardines must feel like. There were probably 20-25people inside a building built for 10 AT MOST. Needless to say this was absolutely horrible. The setup was godawful. You wait on a line that wraps around in a "u" fashion, get to the end & order, then go back up through the gauntlet of sweat and tears to pay. This alone will be the reason I personally will not be returning. The ice cream was good. Not great, and certainly not "the best". Shakes were $6 and tasted no better or worse than any other $3-$4 shake elsewhere. The ice cream was also good...just nothing special at all. 3 of the first choices that were listed as available flavors weren't available so that sucked, and there really wasn't anything special or different about what WAS available here. I'm really not sure why everyone loves and raves about this place so much. By the time you actually get down to order you're so agitated and sweat drenched that it's not really enjoyable. Personally I will save the few bucks and go somewhere else where it won't take close to 30 minutes to get a shake. Brilliant! Door dashed to our hotel that was 10 minutes away and got it delivered in 15! However, sizes were very small for the price we payed. Chocolate overload was my favorite flavor. Heard a lot about this place and it definitely lived up to the hype!! Ice cream is cheaper than carvel, and very creamy and delicious. They have a lot of flavor options from classics to fun flavors like strawberry cheesecake, samoa cookie, rainbow cookie, smores, etc. The smores was fantastic. They also make home made icream cakes and cookie sandwiches. I would've given 5 stars but I took a star away for the location itself. There's essentially 0 parking (only 2 or 3 actual spots), and there is no where to really sit and eat your ice cream except for a couple park benches out front. It's very cramped and not a good place to come for ice cream if u are looking to sit and relax... Last time we went it was raining so we sat in the car and ate lol. I Walked in just to pick up one of their already made cakes that they keep in the freezer. Did not need any writing on the cake, did not want any added toppings, just wanted to pay for the cake and be on my way. They IGNORED ME and literally would charge person after person and continue to ignore me while I stood in front of the register. I asked a few times for help and even had to call the store while standing in front of the register and tell them that I was in front of the register but could not get help, and they still ignored me! This is not the way you treat a customer, you never ignore a customer! Specially when the customer is right in front of you when you are at the register and you choose to charge someone else rather than address the customer that can easily be charged in a matter of minutes. When I started talking to another customer about how I could not pay for a simple cake and how I was being ignored they finally decided to pay attention. Charging me took the girl one minutes because I used Apple Pay. This terrible experience could've easily been avoided if you just would have addressed me personally instead of ignoring me. After Newsday held their "Ice Cream Smackdown" this past summer, pitting all the best sweet spots on the island against each other by letting readers vote for the best, the last cone (not a typo) standing was Ice Cream Cottage. This past Saturday I finally had the opportunity to see why it took the crown. ICC does look like a little cottage (or house) randomly sitting at a relatively busy intersection in Mastic. Enter and you'll be greeted by a tiny thin space that uses its small interior to fill itself with tons of ice cream choices, chocolate-covered goodies, and oodles of candy. There's a couple of freezers as well filled with pre-made cakes and other frozen delights. It's tough choosing a flavor with so many options available. You like Butterfinger? Go with Bartman. Enjoy sweetness? Mom's Cake Batter is for you. The flavors are unique and that's a sign of a good ice cream shop. After trying to narrow down my choices, I went for a medium cup of Reese's Delight. They pile it on to give you enough that it seems a little more like half a size larger. Despite all this, I can't truly give the place the five star approval. Maybe I had my expectations a little too high, but it felt like something was missing. Case in point: My ice cream was vanilla-based and filled with tiny peanut butter chips and mini Reese's Pieces, which sounds like a recipe for success. I mean, it sure was sweet and tasty, but lacked that Reese's PB flavor that stands out amongst others. Not a terrible thing, but didn't have me raving afterwards. Service was also a tad lackluster, but teenage employees tend to emanate that notion. Overall, Ice Cream Cottage delivers quality cream in their well-sized cups. Went there a few times and they wear the same gloves to make ice cream and handle money. No changing gloves that I saw at all. Also, they dipped they ice cream in the toppings. So if you're allergic to chocolate or other things in ice cream all the toppings are cross contaminated. This was before and after the pandemic.
