They have a pistachio and an Italian Pistachio?! That alone sends me into a frenzy. It sounds great but I'm a chocolate fiend. They have a Rocky Road that is off the chain! Its loaded with nuts, marshmallow, chocolate and puppy dog tears. I had it in a waffle cone, it made me dizzy it was so good. My little nieces got cotton candy. Now normally I'd say eww but when she said to me, taste Uncle Billy. I was in heaven! It was soooo good!! My wife got a Jelly Ring Chocolate ice cream cone in a chocolate chip cone (the cone tasted stale) but the ice cream was outrageous. What this place is famous for is their Tartufo. It used to be cash only, but maybe witj COVID19 it changed because on my last visit I was able to pay with a card which was more convenient. I had been meaning to check out this place for years but never got the chance to as it is kind of far from me. Over the summer, I saw an article listing Ice Cream Cottage as the best place for ice cream in Suffolk...Boy that is a big claim, especially with Snowflake being my standby and yardstick to measure ice cream excellence. I am friends with someone who helps make the ice cream who urged my boyfriend and I to visit back in April, but the opportunity did not arise until the end of the summer. We purposely chose smith point park as our beach spot for the day so we could check this place out afterwards and see if it was indeed worth the hype. IT WAS! The staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to try several flavors before making our decision. The place itself is like snowflake, where you can't eat inside but benches are outside to sit and eat. The prices were the cheapest I've seen on the island for both size and quality of homemade ice cream. I got PB&J, Jelly Ring and Fresh Banana. My boyfriend got PB&J, Snickers and another flavor I do not recall. I could not believe my mouth as all 3 flavors were incredible. Fresh Banana reminded me of the banana malteds my grandma made me as a kid. Jelly Ring had tons of jelly ring pieces inside. PB&J was my favorite and was just perfectly balanced. My boyfriend also enjoyed his flavors, with Snickers being the winner for him. I can't wait to go back to this place. I heard they have amazing holiday flavors i want to try. I come here all the time. It's my nostalgic treat having grown up in the area and summer nights aren't complete without a few scoops of Bartman with peanut butter sauce. They are open year round and though I don't frequent them as often during the winter it still fulfills my need for a sweet tooth every so often. 10/10 I wouldn't just recommend, I would encourage you to visit! I've been coming to the Ice Cream Cottage for 10+ years now and I initially came because the wife, who is a sweets connoisseur, swore by this ice cream parlor. When I first got here, my reaction was "REALLY? We're in the middle of freaking Mastic. You've way oversold this place". It's non-descript right off Montauk Highway and it's nothing flashy. Don't let the humble appearance fool you, their ice cream tops any chain and most high end places too. The selection varies from the standards (chocolate, strawberry, rocky road, etc.) to the more unique (apple pie, jelly ring, etc.). Everything tastes good. My personal favorites are the fresh banana and the apple pie. Service is decent but in the summer, lines are epic. Prices here are also really inexpensive and you'll be surprised that they can charge less than chain ice cream stores for superior product. There is a reason this place won best ice cream parlor in Long Island last year. If you're out east, this place cannot be beat. Full marks. read more

They messed up a very expensive birthday cake and were unable to fix it because of the time restraint.( It was being picked up for the party when I saw it was wrong) To add insult to injury some fool in a Postal uniform came out from the back room and laughingly told me "feed it to the dog". I have no idea if the mailman was the owner or some part-time worker Either way he was definitely obnoxious. There was no offer of a refund or any other allowance. While they do have a few chairs outside, this is predominantly a place to pick up your ice cream and go, and its not for the claustrophobic. Customer Service -Thankfully they don't fill their staff with fourteen and fifteen year olds off from school. I have nothing against teenagers trying to get some extra money, but having a busy ice cream shop run by people who have yet to learn time management screams disaster (Ralph's anyone?) Most of the people working the counter are friendly and efficient. Ice Cream -It is a good thing I live about 20 minutes from this place or I'd have added about 20 pounds to me this summer. Some flavors (that I can remember) Reeses explosion, snickers, rocky road, cookies and cream, mint cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, maple walnut, coconut, cherry chip, butter pecan, RAINBOW COOKIE, cake batter, chocolate, vanilla, pistachio & Sicilian pistachio, cotton candy and way more. Plus they have sorbet options. Rainbow cookie was my fav flavor I tried. PACKED with rainbow cookies and sprinkles. Cookie dough was tasty, but not that standout compared to the other flavors. Rocky road was full of whole nuts and marshmallow swirl, the ice cream had a darker chocolate taste and wasn't too sweet which was nice. If you love pistachio you have to try it here. Almost had a very slight orange after tone it was good!! (I ordered the Sicilian Pistachio FYI) Coconut ice cream had tons of coconut meat in it to the point where you could see it sticking up above the scoop, another great flavor. I came around 4pm on a Friday, ate my ice cream outside on the bench and at least 30 people came in for ice cream after me. Which is always a good sign. We all ordered Small cones ($2) which come with 2 generous scoops. You can mix & match your flavors: I had 1 scoop of Smores & 1 scoop of Bartman. Both were incredibly good. The Smores was LOADED with pieces of graham crackers, marshmallows, and swirls of hot fudge. The Bartman, which I guess is named after Bart Simpson's favorite treat, had chunks of Butterfinger and was laced with peanut butter. Wow. Mary C. had 2 scoops of Pistachio which I had to try! Strong pistachio flavor with lots of pistachio nuts mixed in. My cousin had the Orange Sherbet. I'm not a fan of sherbet, but this I liked! Minus 1 star for being so good that I can only allow myself to have ice cream here once per summer. A surprisingly popular local ice cream shop. I've always wanted to try this place out because of that giant ice cream cone outside that always managed to catch my eye. They have a lot of different ice cream and sorbet flavors -including some wine ones!
