Atmosphere: Getting into the parking lot of the Bridgewater Diner is terrifying. It's located in the middle of the main road so you must make a left.  There is no left turn lane, so you hope cars behind you are paying attention because they have to come to a stop or go around you from over 40 mph. The inside is that of a typical diner.  There are plenty of booths, tables, and a bar.  We were lucky we got a booth in the back.  When we were leaving almost every table was taken. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. The waitress brought a small kettle so I could continue to refill my own drink.  Being able to refill my own coffee was nice.  The coffee itself was good. Food: I wasn't sure what I wanted which seems to be a common theme.  There are plenty of options from all day breakfast, to lunch, and dinner.  I decided on the pork chop special.  I have been in a pork chop mood lately.  It was a lot of food. First, it came with a salad which was bigger than most side salads.  The salad itself was good, but I do appreciate when the dressing is mixed in. The pork chops came topped with a balsamic glaze and onion rings.  I chose their squash special and baked potato.  The pork chops were cooked perfectly, and I liked the glaze they used. The squash was one of the best diner sides I've had in a while.  The baked potato was a baked potato and nothing too unusual about it. Dessert: The meal also came with dessert. I chose the Smores cake to go.  The cake itself was a bit dry but in all not too bad.  It had a lot of whipped cream, marshmallows, and chocolate.  I wasn't sure exactly what I was expecting with a smores cake, but I have no complaints. Service: C The waitress didn't come around too much.  We could have used more water refill, and napkins.  She was friendly, but we only saw her a couple of times. Overall Thoughts/Summary: I enjoyed the Bridgewater Diner, and it was definitely one of my more favorite diners in the area. I would come back. read more

Disclaimer: As a former waitress here, my review may be slightly biased. Bridgewater Diner is conveniently located in the middle of Rt. 22 and is always packed regardless of time of day, and for good reason! The portions are huge and the food is delicious. After working here for a year, I've had a lot of things on their menu, and would recommend: - Broiled seafood combo: Yes it's expensive but so so worth it, especially for the crab cakes. If it's on the nightly specials list, it comes with soup, salad, potatoes, and a dessert. - Chicken francaise: Absolutely love the sauce, especially over rice. - Mahtzah ball soup and French onion soup: So hearty and savory. The soups aren't made fresh, so they will be at your table within seconds. - Milkshakes: it's very time-consuming for the waitresses to make these, so please be considerate and don't order 8 of these when you see that she's busy. - Rice pudding: Whether you have teeth or not, rice pudding is amazing. I recently came here for brunch and was pleasantly surprised to find the new addition of water jugs for each table. Will be the last time we will be going here. Even though the place is cheap of eats, there are too many problems that go on. Yesterday they served me raw chicken in my dinner and did nothing about it. Instead of informing the cooks, the manager just threw the plate out and said nothing. When questioned if he stated this to the cooks, he basically lied and said yes. We were watching him and he was in and out to basically put the dish into wash and that's it. Another Greek BS artists that is only interested in your money. The second problem is because of the prices the place attracts trash, they will come in causing all types of problems, complain about everything say its expensive (when these idiots know its like $6 cheaper than any where else) they will blast their cell phones, you hear the F word all over the place and they have idiot parents who bring their kids in and they constantly scream. The only thing the Bridgewater Diner does is kiss their asses (hense thats why there is empty tubes of chap stick all over the place!) . Four of us (2 adults and 2 kids) went for breakfast and everyone loved their choice from French toast and chocolate chip pancakes to avocado poached eggs and scrambled eggs leaving each plate empty. This was the first time my grandson couldn't finish his bacon so we all gave him a hand. I was impressed with the "real" maple syrup, well worth the $2 upgrade. There was one disappointment. Wife and I both had the home-fries. Hers were perfect but mine were too hard on the outside and too mushy on the inside. Hence only the four stars. read more

I met a couple of friends here for lunch on a weekday. The lunch specials are cheap, portions are huge and service was friendly. The food itself was very bland and mediocre at best. My turkey lunch platter, which included mashed potatoes and corn, was bland, but fine. The portion was a crazy large size. The lunch special included soup and dessert. I had the cream of broccoli soup, which was good. For dessert, I ordered the apple turnover, which was fresh baked at the diner and good. One of my friends had the chicken avocado salad with the cream of broccoli soup and rice pudding. The salad was very large with lots of veggies and some grilled chicken thrown on top. It's hard to mess up salad, since there is no cooking involved, so it was good. In summary, for $9.99 I certainly received a lot of food. If I could rate it, no stars, I would, been coming here for 30 years, and I've never been treated as bad as we have in the last year. Since they had their fire, all their prices have gone up, their service level has gone down and the owners don't care, there are plenty more diners in New Jersey to go to drive right past this one. The menu is surprisingly sparse for a NJ Diner. Normally, your need a table of contents and/or an index to find what you're looking for. I was hopeful this meant they were really good at the few things the make. Sorry to say this wasn't the case. The burger was not bad, it just wasn't good. I'm pretty sure it starts off as a frozen patty. The French Dip was not good - the roast beef was a pale gray color and it lacked any real taste - the bread also was not good - fresh but not good. The au jus was a bit of a mess with quite of bit of separation. Good fries. But the brown gravy had a gelatin can feel. The place also is a bit congested, like they worked to fit in a couple of tables too many. The food isn't bad and it was not overpriced. Been a customer for years. Never a problem. Until now. Ordered pork chops that came with a cup of soup and a vegetable. Standard stuff. The pork chops were burnt so we sent them back. They took that off the bill but charged for $4 for the soup. When I disputed it, they just didn't care. Another example of the lost art of customer service. Don't nickel and dime me for your mistake. That spoke volumes. We are the $4 and tipped the waiter 20% but we should have have walked out on principle. read more

Pretty decent for a diner. I would say the food to price ratio was very good. They give you a lot of food for cheap. I'm impressed with there senior citizen menu too. My grandparents ordered off of those options and got there money's worth. It was a filling meal and very affordable. When we went it was crazy busy but hostess was efficient and we were seated quickly. It was a 2 seater booth. Very tight but just happy to be seated. Service was good. Server was VERY delightful. I frequent the Washington Diner & I believe they have the same owner so I was not really surprised with how good the food is. I have been going to the Bridgewater diner for years, and everytime is just as enjoyable as the next. The atmosphere is warm, and has many booth seats for extra comfort. The food is delicious with big portions. No matter what you order, breakfast, lunch or dinner, it is guaranteed to exceed your expectations. Being a local, I have tried various different items on the menu, and I can surely say I haven't been disappointed. This diner is very quick with their service, whether it is getting you food, or finding you a table. I recently went on a very packed Sunday morning, where there was not one spot left in the parking lot, and I still managed to get seated within 10 minutes. Like myself, I have noticed there are always many returning customers, which is clearly a sign of a great place! If you are ever in the area, make sure to give this place a try! read more

The staff needs sensativity training. I stood at the door with a walker ..waiting for a friend to pay the bill. The 4 staff members standing there, however, didn;t know that. You might think that at least one out of the 4 would come over to open the door for me. The hostess, the manager, 2 waitstaff/busboys. They all stood with their collective thumbs up their asses. I had one of the most unremarkable meals I have ever had in my life here. I had the Meatloaf with mushroom gravy, mashed potato's and corn. I found each item lacked any sort of taste and not even adding salt and pepper helped. I tried to salvage the meal with a piece of pie and even that did not go well. I ordered the lemon meringue. My husband was in the mood for diner food and we came for a late breakfast. The parking lot was kind of busy so we weren't sure if we were going to get stuck waiting. We parking and walked in and saw their parties larger than 2 has to wait but we got seated pretty quickly. I ordered the Irish omelette (corned beef and potatoes in the omelette) with some wheat toast and coffee. The omelette was cooked well and the ratio of meat and potatoes was pretty good. Ordered a chicken parm sandwich and a slice of chocolate layer cake. The chicken tasted not like freshly fried chicken cutlet but like microwaved mystery meat chicken patties. I've had my share of mediocre matzo ball soup, but this! I ordered a happy waitress which comes with a soup. I ordered matzo ball. When I picked it up, the gentleman working the front continued his conversation with one of his servers and then came over to help me. He tried making small talk, but I was less than impressed, so I paid and left. When I sat down to unpack the food, I noticed the neon yellow soup container (the picture doesn't even come close to the color). In no way, shape or form did this resemble even a canned chicken broth. And the taste? Chicken bouillon and water. Not one piece of carrot, nor celery, let alone chicken! First time at the Bridgewater Diner. We went Thursday at around 4:00pm. There is a clock on the exterior of the building that doesn't give you the real time; the minute hand just flies around as if it's the second hand. The clock is all out of whack. We were seated immediately and noticed the diner was clean. Pros: Staff is prompt. Refilled drinks without being asked which was nice. Not overly friendly, but not rude either. There is a senior citizen menu; all meals on it are $11.99. Cons: Overpriced considering the quality of the food you get. Weird food combinations on the menu. Example: a salad that had avocado and blue cheese. Maybe some people like that, but a lot of the combinations didn't make sense to me personally. Roma grilled chicken salad: the salad came with grilled chicken, mozzarella, greens, and roasted red peppers. The chicken was good. There were large cut up carrots in the salad which didn't really belong in a salad like that--another odd food combination, but it was fine. The portion was huge, but the quality of the food itself was just okay. Ended up not eating most of it. They put the dressing on the side which is a plus. Salad was overall just okay. Chicken caesar salad wrap: chicken was good. A lot of the lettuce inside the wrap was wilted/turning brown. There was Swiss cheese in the wrap (instead of Parmesan) which made no sense for a chicken Caesar wrap; another weird food combo. The Swiss cheese made it taste a little weird. The side of fries came in a novelty deep fry basket which was a little unnecessary because it creates extra dishes for no reason. It would make more sense to just put the fries on the plate next to the wrap which is what we ended up doing anyway. Overall, it was just very underwhelming. Probably wouldn't go back because it is overpriced for what you get. read more

Last visit I had red snapper with a spicy brown sauce on a bed of spinach , which included potato fingerlings and squash. While this diner has decent food, they have no problem ripping you off for takeout orders. Recently ordered three breakfast and asked them to put everything in large containers so that we could eat family-style at home and avoid fifty containers. They proceed to put everything in different containers and charge me for individual orders of everything, which is the most expensive way to order. When I challenged them on this, they argued with me and told me I ordered it wrong (this is funny because the lady that always arguing with me didn't take my order). They refused to adjust the price. Bottom-line, awful customer service, they just lost a regular customer over a few bucks. When I was younger this diner used to be called Felix #9 Diner and my parents loved it. I probably ate there 30-40 times. I don't know when it became the Bridgewater Diner, but I just discovered it today after my daughter's practice...she was starving and she wanted diner food...and it's easier to feed her than face her hunger wrath... I was hoping for a great new diner experience...however, it was simply mediocre. Not two stars, buy not really three. First off, the hostess was surly and could barely slow down as she tossed our menus on a table (place was packed so maybe she was a little frazzled). It then took almost ten minutes for out waitress to greet us and she basically just walked up and asked if we were ready to order. No waters either. Anyway, my daughter ordered a chocolate shake (which was excellent), chocolate chip pancakes and scrambled eggs (two hours of practice and she was ravenous-John Belushi in Animal House ravenous). I ordered a Black Forest sandwich and it came with a cup of soup (I chose matzoh ball) and fries. My daughter loved her meal, though I'm not really sure she tasted it since she ate it so fast, and we both liked the fries. My soup...not good. First she forgot the soup as an appetizer, then she brought me the wrong soup, then the matzoh. Every diner in NJ (at least the good ones) makes matzoh ball soup...it's a staple, but this wasn't good; broth was terrible, matzoh was flavorless, and not a carrot or onion or piece of celery or chicken to be found. Just a ball of matzoh in an awful broth. My sandwich LOOKED good...but it was just ok. Roast beef, Cole slaw, Russian dressing, melted Swiss on a hoagie roll. Just bland and with fatty roast beef. I gave this place another chance but it was definitely the last time I will go there. Went late on a Saturday morning, after the breakfast crowd. I rarely go out for breakfast and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately every aspect of the visit was a disappointment. The waitress was friendly but unbelievably slow. When the coffee finally came out there was a spoon in the cup that looked like it just came out of someone's soup bowl. Thank God I looked first! The service was unreasonably slow and when the food came out it was just ok. We were seated right next to the cash register and the entire time the girls congregated there and gossiped about the customers. I couldn't wait to get the check and hit the road! The May have renovated the building but the food didn't is a miss. I'm not sure what frozen brand of chicken fingers they are using but they were the pits. My gf and I went recently after seeing a terrible movie in Bridgewater. When we walked in, we felt as though it lacked the goudy, in your face, high in silver look of a typical NNJ diner. As funny as it may sound, it looked too upscale to be a diner. Although the waitress we had was very nice, the service was slow. Typical diner fare. I had the burger w/disco fries. Burger was typical for a diner (and I was sober). If you don't know what disco fries are, then you are not from the area and don't deserve to have them. She had breakfast (eggs, hashbrowns, toast and sausage links). You really can't screw that up and thankfully they didnt! Not the best diner I had been to nor the worst. Cue usual diner intro.... I don't go to diners for seafood, steaks, meatloaf, triple decker sandwiches or mile high pies. For me, there is only one meal to be had-Lox and onion omelette, well done home fries and rye toast with a good cup of coffee. I've had this very same meal at dozens of diners throughout New Jersey. From the horrifically bad to mighty fine. Bridgewater did not have my favorite omelette. So I had an onion omelette which was very nicely cooked. Home fries and rye toast were very tasty. Combined with friendly service for the win. Bridgewater Diner is a very popular spot in the middle of route 22, one of the worst roads in America. Recommended. read more

Now usually a diner gets the food out pretty quick but I have to say this was the longest I've ever waited for food from a diner . Really good, solid diner. I was pleasantly surprised to see potato pancakes on the menu. They were very delicious. Everyone liked their selections. Large portions, fresh food, and quick service. Overall a great value for breakfast. My only tip would be to offer a lunch menu along with the breakfast one.
