My boyfriend & I were looking for a new breakfast joint to try, and this one so happened to be our last minute option. It was the best decision ever. He had the Egg Benedict Salmon and I had a The Supreme Chorizo Hash. We both tried each other's plate and IT WAS SOOOOOO BOMB. Aside from the food the mimosas were so good! Went to the ashland avenue today, may 28, 2023 and was looking forward to a good meal. got there about 1, and it should have been crowded, but it wasn't and now i know why. when we were ordering, i asked the server a few questions to make sure i understood what i was getting. it was truly shocking, but, i accepted it, and we ordered. (our check was for two people, 60 plus tip = 70, a very high amount for breakfast at a neighborhood place with just coffee, no alcohol), anyway, i ordered the mexican omlette, and i asked how the andouille sausage was prepared. i was told by the server it was three links, which is what i expected, so i ordered it as a side. my friend ordered eggs and bacon. my friend also wanted the side of pancakes which comes with the meal, and a side toast. So what does our server say, we do NOT have the side pancakes, but you can order a short stack. the reason our server said was that the kitchen staff was new, and did NOT know how to make the side of pancakes that comes with the meal. so, I asked the logical question, if they don't know how to make pancakes, do they know how to make an omlette? she said yes, so my friend ordered the short stack. --i have to admit, i really was surprised as to the kitchen knowing how to make a short stack, but can't make a side of pancakes....so i asked, is your kitchen staff really that "slow" "dumb", they can't figure out how to make the pancakes that come with the order, but know how to make a short stack? and what is the difference? do they know how to make an omlette? oh, i ordered the tomatoes instead of potatoes or fruit, and asked for an onion slice on it. well, no answer or explanation, the server walked away without answering, and we waited for our meal. it came, and not as the server said. what was wrong you ask? well, the sausage was little thin slices, the slice of onions was five thin sliver rounds of red onion, my friend's bacon could still walk (my friend sent it back to finish cooking) and i still didn't understand why a short stack is a different pancake from what you get with the meal. when i told the server and the man who delivered the meal, the sausage was not what the sever said it was, and asked to have the chicken sausage instead, we were told they were still charging us for the sausage, so we kept it. in the end, the food was decent, but certainly NOT a 30 + tip per person breakfast. the check came, and per website, i asked to have the 3% surcharge removed, and was told by the server that can't be done unless i paid cash --the website says you can ask to have it removed, and does NOT say it is a credit card charge-- first, no business pays 3% for credit cards, and second, don't put on your website you can remove it and don't tell me it is a credit use charge, i know how to read, and the website does NOT say that. so in the end, if you want to get ripped off, come here, the way i figure it out, they hit me up for about 20 bucks extra -- 30% --by forcing me to take a side of sausage the server misrepresented, charging extra for 5 thin rings of onions, not honoring their menu of a side of pancakes instead charging for a short stack, and lying about the surcharge.... so the moral of the story, come here to get ripped of, feel ripped off and i attached pics so you know this is the truth! copies of the check and pic of the meal. i can understand why on a sunday at 1, they were about 20% of capacity, i'm sure i'm not the first, nor will i be the last one ripped off by this con of a restaurant. read more

My friend and I wanted to check out a new breakfast place around Lakeview and this place did not disappoint. I ended up ordering the Supreme Chorizo Hash and I was amazed by how much flavor it had! My dish def needed a bit more chorizo though. My friend and I shared the French toast and that was pretty tasty too. The bottom had a perfect crunch to it and the toast was thick! TLDR: As seen on other reviews, good diner food at Lakeview prices. Wife and I came for brunch on a Sunday before going grocery shopping (gotta eat beforehand or we'd be buying everything in the store). They've got some nice curbside seating outside, so we decided to sit outside. Zero wait and servers were friendly, but service was a bit slow. I ordered the chilaquiles, the wife got the vanilla bean waffles, and we split a meat platter with the bacon, andouille sausage, and chicken sausage. The chilaquiles pretty dang good; they're made with the roja sauce, which is tangy and not too spicy, and come topped with chorizo (delicious) and homemade guacamole (a very nice touch). I'm more partial to tomatillo based chilaquiles myself, but I'd still recommend these. My wife's waffle was exactly what she wanted, crispy on outside and fluffy on the inside, and was topped with strawberries and bananas, which tasted fresh. She also had a cappuccino which she enjoyed, but, again, no frills, just good coffee. All in all, we'd definitely come back before grocery shopping. read more

While figuring out what to eat, I noticed plenty of ceramic chickens displayed randomly throughout the establishment. Pretty odd I thought and took pictures for my Yelp post. This was the second time we were going to this place. The first time we went, it was on a weekday, the service was fine, the food was good and we liked our experience. So we decided to go on a weekend with our parents. We have a 2 year child, so we called ahead to ensure we had a reservation and a high chair. The website said we could make reservations for parties of 5 and above, which we were. When I called they initially told me it was a party of 6 else they could not make the reservation. I told them what the website said, so she took the reservation. We showed up about 10 minutes late because we hit traffic and well our toddler was being a little difficult in the morning. We get there and they tell us that they don't have a high chair for us. So we asked when one would be available and the manager (I am guessing that was who the man was) on duty was really nasty in how he spoke to us. He basically was telling the hostess in front of us that there was no high chair and we just had to deal with it! I mean who says that?! Anyway, when we said we were leaving he genuinely seemed surprised though he never apologized. We would have waited but once he was rude we had absolutely no interest in the place. My wife and I love this place. Food is exceptional and service friendly and efficient. We went there today and one of the wait-staff overheard my wife comment to me about my birthday. I pass Breakfast House every time I take the 9 up north and there are always people waiting outside to get a table - I knew it had to be good, so I was really looking forward to getting brunch here! I'd planned to join the Yelp waitlist in the morning but it closed around 9am, so I just got to the restaurant a little earlier than my friends and I agreed to meet - the wait for an outdoor table for 3 ended up being about 25 minutes. I ordered the Supreme Chorizo Hash with vegan chorizo, which also came with a pancake on the side (lots of food for under $14!) - the hash was excellent and I love the aioli that came with it! I usually like getting pancakes with fruit or chocolate mixed in, but their plain buttermilk recipe was perfect. They also have good-quality bottomless coffee. We had a great meal and our servers were very kind and didn't make us feel rushed even though they were fairly busy throughout the morning. It feels like a cozy suburban restaurant even though it's located on a busy street in Lake View - would always be great choice for a casual family brunch. read more

Blacks in the Back? When we entered the restaurant, there were 4 2-top tables available in the front, yet the hostess took a look at my friend and I and walked us to the back. This is written directly to the waiter who belittled me when I didn't realize that the chilaquiles I ordered automatically came with chorizo. I told him that unfortunately I would not be able to eat the meal as I cannot consume pork products. He proceeded to tell me that not eating the dish would be a huge waste of food and that I need to learn to read menus better and grabbed the plate and walked off in a huff. He completely humiliated me in front of the people I was with and then proceeded to have more waitstaff come and harass me because I didn't want to eat the chilaquiles with meat on them. At this point I really just wanted to pay the bill and leave but instead he walked over with a new plate of chilaquiles and plopped them in front of me menacingly. I couldn't even eat anymore food because I was so embarrassed and really just wanted to get out of there. When I couldn't eat the new plate of chilaquiles three more waitstaff came up to me demanding to know why I wasn't eating the food. To be honest the quality of the bloody Mary's was terrible, they were missing something. My friends ordered a vegan hash and a regular breakfast hash, and they really did not think much of their meals either. But the level of harassment I experienced for not being able to eat a meal was epic. To be made to feel like I am the sole contributor to the food waste crisis and to be consistently badgered and picked on by everyone working at the restaurant was a mortifying experience.
