I'm so surprised that there was no wait here. The food and service is great! The freshly squeezed orange juice is one of the best I've had. My bf ordered the steak and eggs and the steak was cooked perfectly. The huevos rancheros have a really delicious sauce on top and come with avocado, sour cream, and black beans topped with cheese. I'm definitely coming back to try the specials. read more

Very good classic breakfast place. Great for toddlers especially in the summer when you can sit outside. Only complaint is that we arrived after they opened on a Sunday and the patio wasn't available for seating until about 15 minutes later. I think the staff was simply running late. read more

My boyfriend & I were looking for a new breakfast joint to try, and this one so happened to be our last minute option. It was the best decision ever. He had the Egg Benedict Salmon and I had a The Supreme Chorizo Hash. We both tried each other's plate and IT WAS SOOOOOO BOMB. Aside from the food the mimosas were so good! I would highly recommend this place. Our server was Juan. He was a very polite guy. He was very tired that day but he managed to still keep a smile on his face and check up on us every so often. I genuinely feel that servers definitely make a huge difference in your experience. Very grateful to have had such friendly people at the restaurant. I will definitely be coming back read more

My friend and I wanted to check out a new breakfast place around Lakeview and this place did not disappoint. I ended up ordering the Supreme Chorizo Hash and I was amazed by how much flavor it had! My dish def needed a bit more chorizo though. My friend and I shared the French toast and that was pretty tasty too. The bottom had a perfect crunch to it and the toast was thick! Would def come back again for breakfast/brunch! read more

Coming into this place on Saturday morning, we were delighted with great food, service and vibes! Saturday was off to a late start so we ended ip coming to the restaurant at around 2:15 and they were so accommodating with everything. Service was fantastic- never did we feel rushed or underwhelmed with the amount of times that they came to check in on us. Food was great as well- I ordered the vegan chorizo hash which blew my mind be at as everything was so well seasoned and it was such a big portion. Along with that we got the dulce de leche pancakes which were absolutely amazing- had the right amount of sweetness to it. The ambiance was definitely so cute and cozy. Loved their sign that they had with the staff. Would highly recommend to others! read more

Greeters/Hosts at the front were a little rude in my opinion - it was our first time here and we needed to wait for a table to open up ... the front is small so difficult to know where to go. First we went to one side, then the gentleman firmly TOLD us to move to the other, then the woman TOLD us to stand outside and she would call us on our phone but she hadn't taken our phone number. We would have done whatever they wanted - but I did not like the delivery/tone of the message at all. And I wasn't alone in my impression - the other people I was with felt the same way. I was concerned but when I saw it was one of Chicago's Bests - I decided to suck it up and wait. Turned out it is a small neighborhood restaurant with breakfasts that are fresh tasting, good portions, and reasonably priced with a very friendly, warm, and accommodating server and a team walking around supporting each other frequently refilling water and coffee frequently. I had the breakfast burrito and really enjoyed it. Covered in a flavorful but not spicy red sauce tipped it over the edge of not just a regular burrito for breakfast and one I would recommend. Coffee was a wonderful blend. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I would go back. read more

The overall quality of food is good, but for large groups 6+ people they do not accept multiple cards (the customer was not advised prior to it). They refused to accept our credit card and threatened calling the police!!! Those people should not do business. read more

THIS PLACE IS A GEM. We went on the Monday of Memorial Day and they had no wait but it will still pretty packed. They have outdoor seating, but there was a wait for that. It is nice though because they have large windows that they open that makes you feel like you are outside. The service was great. Everyone was happy with their meal. I got the Supreme Chorizo Hash and couldn't have enjoyed it more. It had everything I liked. Breakfast for a family of 4 came to about $75 including tip. read more

TLDR: As seen on other reviews, good diner food at Lakeview prices. Wife and I came for brunch on a Sunday before going grocery shopping (gotta eat beforehand or we'd be buying everything in the store). They've got some nice curbside seating outside, so we decided to sit outside. Zero wait and servers were friendly, but service was a bit slow. I ordered the chilaquiles, the wife got the vanilla bean waffles, and we split a meat platter with the bacon, andouille sausage, and chicken sausage. The chilaquiles pretty dang good; they're made with the roja sauce, which is tangy and not too spicy, and come topped with chorizo (delicious) and homemade guacamole (a very nice touch). I'm more partial to tomatillo based chilaquiles myself, but I'd still recommend these. My wife's waffle was exactly what she wanted, crispy on outside and fluffy on the inside, and was topped with strawberries and bananas, which tasted fresh. She also had a cappuccino which she enjoyed, but, again, no frills, just good coffee. All in all, we'd definitely come back before grocery shopping. read more

Outstanding breakfast/lunch restaurant! Generous portions, great staff who are very attentive and quick. Bright and airy atmosphere.

Place looks intimate and romantic for a breakfast and brunch spot. Watch out for the small steps entering and exiting the place. Glad I wasn't that tired to be clumsy that day. I can't afford to break any bones, I'm no longer young enough to heal fast enough. Anyway, first thing I noticed was a full bar but then I thought it's too early to be drinking! While figuring out what to eat, I noticed plenty of ceramic chickens displayed randomly throughout the establishment. Pretty odd I thought and took pictures for my Yelp post. Our portions were pretty huge fr what appears to be a classy breakfast place. I ordered a latin dish (see picture) and tea; while my baby daddy ordered a 3 egg omlet and orange juice which totaled to $35. Parking in residential areas and meter parking available. Across the street is a shopping plaza. I'd go back again when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

This was the second time we were going to this place. The first time we went, it was on a weekday, the service was fine, the food was good and we liked our experience. So we decided to go on a weekend with our parents. We have a 2 year child, so we called ahead to ensure we had a reservation and a high chair. The website said we could make reservations for parties of 5 and above, which we were. When I called they initially told me it was a party of 6 else they could not make the reservation. I told them what the website said, so she took the reservation. We showed up about 10 minutes late because we hit traffic and well our toddler was being a little difficult in the morning. We get there and they tell us that they don't have a high chair for us. So we asked when one would be available and the manager (I am guessing that was who the man was) on duty was really nasty in how he spoke to us. He basically was telling the hostess in front of us that there was no high chair and we just had to deal with it! I mean who says that?! Anyway, when we said we were leaving he genuinely seemed surprised though he never apologized. We would have waited but once he was rude we had absolutely no interest in the place. We will not be going back. read more

My wife and I love this place. Food is exceptional and service friendly and efficient. We went there today and one of the wait-staff overheard my wife comment to me about my birthday. At the end of the meal the waiter brought a French toast with berries and whipped cream with a candle. What an incredible surprise! Not only that, it was a non-blow-out candle. Lots of laughs. read more

BEWARE, THIS PLACE IS A CLEAR RIP OFF, AND THEY HAVE NO SHAME IN DOING SO. IT IS TRULY APPALING THEY GET AWAY WITH BEING LEGAL THIEVES, BUT THEY TRULY ARE, AND READ THIS REVIEW AND YOU WILL CLEARLY UNDERSTAND--go find somewhere else, unless you want to get ripped off, but consider yourself warned. FIGURE FOR BREAKFAST AT LEAST $35 PER PERSON!! Went to the ashland avenue today, may 28, 2023 and was looking forward to a good meal. got there about 1, and it should have been crowded, but it wasn't and now i know why. when we were ordering, i asked the server a few questions to make sure i understood what i was getting. it was truly shocking, but, i accepted it, and we ordered. (our check was for two people, 60 plus tip = 70, a very high amount for breakfast at a neighborhood place with just coffee, no alcohol), anyway, i ordered the mexican omlette, and i asked how the andouille sausage was prepared. i was told by the server it was three links, which is what i expected, so i ordered it as a side. my friend ordered eggs and bacon. my friend also wanted the side of pancakes which comes with the meal, and a side toast. So what does our server say, we do NOT have the side pancakes, but you can order a short stack. the reason our server said was that the kitchen staff was new, and did NOT know how to make the side of pancakes that comes with the meal. so, I asked the logical question, if they don't know how to make pancakes, do they know how to make an omlette? she said yes, so my friend ordered the short stack. --i have to admit, i really was surprised as to the kitchen knowing how to make a short stack, but can't make a side of pancakes....so i asked, is your kitchen staff really that "slow" "dumb", they can't figure out how to make the pancakes that come with the order, but know how to make a short stack? and what is the difference? do they know how to make an omlette? oh, i ordered the tomatoes instead of potatoes or fruit, and asked for an onion slice on it. well, no answer or explanation, the server walked away without answering, and we waited for our meal. it came, and not as the server said. what was wrong you ask? well, the sausage was little thin slices, the slice of onions was five thin sliver rounds of red onion, my friend's bacon could still walk (my friend sent it back to finish cooking) and i still didn't understand why a short stack is a different pancake from what you get with the meal. when i told the server and the man who delivered the meal, the sausage was not what the sever said it was, and asked to have the chicken sausage instead, we were told they were still charging us for the sausage, so we kept it. in the end, the food was decent, but certainly NOT a 30 + tip per person breakfast. the check came, and per website, i asked to have the 3% surcharge removed, and was told by the server that can't be done unless i paid cash --the website says you can ask to have it removed, and does NOT say it is a credit card charge-- first, no business pays 3% for credit cards, and second, don't put on your website you can remove it and don't tell me it is a credit use charge, i know how to read, and the website does NOT say that. so in the end, if you want to get ripped off, come here, the way i figure it out, they hit me up for about 20 bucks extra -- 30% --by forcing me to take a side of sausage the server misrepresented, charging extra for 5 thin rings of onions, not honoring their menu of a side of pancakes instead charging for a short stack, and lying about the surcharge.... so the moral of the story, come here to get ripped of, feel ripped off and i attached pics so you know this is the truth! copies of the check and pic of the meal. i can understand why on a sunday at 1, they were about 20% of capacity, i'm sure i'm not the first, nor will i be the last one ripped off by this con of a restaurant. read more

This place seemed to be a great pick but the experience was an all-around miss. Our table of three waited about 45 min for breakfast food (scramble, burrito, and omelet). We had a hankering for brunch, but we also didn't want to leave the house. So we opted for delivery from this spot via Postmates. I couldn't resist the chilaquiles and George C. opted for the Atlantic salmon cake benedict. Everything arrived well packaged and as anticipated. And everything tasted fab! The chilaquiles were unlike anything I'd had before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. And George C. devoured the benedict. Large portions too. Totally tasty and based on the delivery, seems like a great brunch spot. Next time, we'll have to go here in-person. read more

I pass Breakfast House every time I take the 9 up north and there are always people waiting outside to get a table - I knew it had to be good, so I was really looking forward to getting brunch here! I'd planned to join the Yelp waitlist in the morning but it closed around 9am, so I just got to the restaurant a little earlier than my friends and I agreed to meet - the wait for an outdoor table for 3 ended up being about 25 minutes. I ordered the Supreme Chorizo Hash with vegan chorizo, which also came with a pancake on the side (lots of food for under $14!) - the hash was excellent and I love the aioli that came with it! I usually like getting pancakes with fruit or chocolate mixed in, but their plain buttermilk recipe was perfect. They also have good-quality bottomless coffee. We had a great meal and our servers were very kind and didn't make us feel rushed even though they were fairly busy throughout the morning. It feels like a cozy suburban restaurant even though it's located on a busy street in Lake View - would always be great choice for a casual family brunch. read more

We wandered to this place after learning about a 2.5 hr wait at a nearby restaurant. Parking was tough since we could only park on a residential street but the ambiance was quiet and friendly. I went to Breakfast House in September 2021 for Brunch. We ordered the Supreme Chorizo Hash with pancakes , Breakfast Burrito, and mimosas. They have a nice assortment of juices for the mimosas (OJ is played out right?) we were able to sit outside in a quant street and loved the big breakfast. So this place. It's in a somewhat strange location, it is. Parking was actually fairly agreeable, despite being on Ashland across from Jewel. . We trucked into this place on a Friday for lunch. The Maitre D was kind of unconventional. He looked like someone's uncle, and wasn't dressed in his finery. I kind of appreciated that, frankly. We were seated quickly and the wait staff were very nice and stuff. Food was slightly different than described but sometimes you need to go with the flow, am I right? We recently visited Breakfast House for weekday brunch with friends. It was a great place to visit over a meal, and the food was enjoyable. VIBE: Open, airy and light. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and pleasant. SERVICE: Our server was very friendly and helpful, and checked back with us often to see if we needed anything. Food came out a reasonable pace (probably to be expected, since the place was less than 20% full). FOOD: Everyone enjoyed their meals. My chorizo hash was very good: nice flavors, cooked just right. Intelligentsia coffee was fresh & delicious. There are a few wine and beer choices on the menu, as well. This was a good choice for brunch with friends; not haute cuisine, but any means, but hospitable staff, pleasant setting, and tasty food. I'd go back again under similar circumstances... read more

Best breakfast in the city! Used to live next to yolk in East Lakeview and moved west (almost 2 years ago) about a block from here! LIFE CHANGER! Everything is amazing! Our go-to's include the breakfast sandwich, burrito, and chilaquiles! So delicious! Best in the city without a doubt! Another huge perk - they have a massive outdoor space on Wellington! They have a fairly large menu, and it's a pretty standard "Breakfast" menu as for the options. I went with a breakfast sandwich, and it was truly just FINE. Service wasn't horrible, just fine. It's nice they have an outdoor seating option, although this location is right on Ashland so it can get a bit loud.
