Brazen in downtown Banff is modern and stylish. Ordered a conventional breakfast before an open topped tour. Eggs were fine, sourdough toast was very crispy, but the Canadian Canadian Bacon is the star of the breakfast show here. Now I can't go back to the U.S. version. A story about the bar was told to us by a local: Used to be the Alberta Bar. A local trapper, Wild Bill, brought in a drugged lynx on his way to the old Banff Zoo, and stopped by for a drink. The bar was too crowded for the trapper. So he turned the lynx loose and the bar cleared. Much more sedate today. read more

I think I expected a lot more from this place. There were a lot of good reviews and the menu seemed interesting. But I just was disappointed. My husband ordered the gnocchi and for me it was over cooked Although the flavors were there. I had the mussels in matcha. The mussels were ok, the Tobiko had a nice touch of texture and added a slightly salty flavor. The sauce was just alright. It had more of a coconut curry flavor and the matcha was just over powered by it. The toast was perfectly charred. Both of the servings were small. Really good, a modern gem in an older town. This place has lots of different options from seared tuna on crostini, to gnocchi carbonara. The places outdoor seating was nice and gave good views of the mountains and town. All the food was reasonably priced and the food came out moderately quick. Brazen is a new restaurant in Banff and it shows. A lot of the menu is labeled gluten free - but the current variety isn't actually gluten free and has to check with the server which was both deceiving and disappointing. The concept of the food is really good but I think needs some refining to sort out the flavors. The cocktails were creative and a show but better drinks exist in the area. I love salty food - but everything we had was extremely salty. If I say it's salty it must be salty. Overall - I liked the concept but think that they need some more time to refine the menu. read more

Our first night in Banff we decided to try out Brazen. They set the bar very high for our trip there. Everything was delicious and couldn't have asked for better service. Although we were full after a bunch of small plates, we couldn't pass up the delicious looking deserts, and boy did they not disappoint one bit. Seems to be new but wouldn't have been able to tell if I hadn't read other reviews on Yelp/Google. We didn't try any drinks but had dinner here after a long day of hiking and scrambling around Banff to find a place that could seat 6 without a reservation or 1hr+ wait. I got the green tea mussels and it was definitely interesting and tasty, but I'm not sure if I was able to taste the green tea part. My friend commented it tastes like green curry but I've never had green curry so not sure. Worth a try and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to say I've had green tea mussels anywhere else, and at least the sourdough and mussels were of great quality/freshness. The menu overall is on the more avant-garde side with some Asian inspiration. The truffle parm honey butter potatoes were so good, they are a must have. I also ordered a side of broccolini which was pretty solid as well. Everyone else enjoyed their main dishes (3 got the green tea mussels, the other 3 got the ginger beef, surf&turf, and mushroom ravioli). I do find it funny that the surf&turf dish is a pork-centered dish rather than seafood-centered. The one thing that we did not like was the golden chicken pops appetizer. The spicy flavor of the chicken was good when combined with the pickled veggies, so it was a strong taste but not bad at all. It was the texture completely threw all of us off. It tasted like the chicken had been mashed into a mashed potato kind of texture. I don't know how that was achieved but I guess if you like trying new things this could be for you, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend this dish. Service was quite good and I loved the funny envelope the check came in. Overall would recommend trying out this restaurant for some cool dishes. read more

I have Celiac Disease so it's a rare treat when I can order crispy chicken and dessert. The crispy chicken was absolutely delicious, as was the pavlova (and neither made me sick, which was really important as I was stuck in gondolas/skiing all week). My only complaint is that the chicken was literally just chicken, with no sides or anything. However, I can't fault the restaurant for that as they have a separate section for sides and I should have read the menu closer. Just something to watch out for if you're from the US like I am, where it's a given that entrees include sides. I should also note that the service for takeout was exceptionally fast. read more

We were fortunate enough to get reservations at Brazen for New Years Eve and couldn't have been happier with the experience. Our server, Anthony, was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, offering several recommendations that would partner well for a family style meal. Food and drinks were all excellent. From the pork ribs to the Brussel sprouts, mac and brie, and ginger beef, all the food tasted great and was served promptly on the busy holiday night. Wine recommendations were delicious and worked well with all our food selections. Overall, this was a great experience for our New Years Eve celebration. We were seated right on time for our 7pm reservation. We finished dinner with some delicious crème Brulee before enjoying the celebrations around town. We loved everything about our meal and were very grateful for the entire staff who sacrificed their New Years Eve for our dining experience. read more

What a find! I can't believe how lucky I was to walk in her for a dinner and get to sit outside, in the center of town. So first of all, five stars for location and view. One waitress serving outside, I saw her constantly talking with each table, smiling, she took time to have discussions with me and make recommendations on the menu. I don't know how she was efficient, personable, and friendly without missing a beat. Five stars for service. And luckily the food was the best I had all trip, each dish was delicious, especially the cocktail and the potatoes. Beautiful atmosphere and even better food!! The stuffed mushroom caps as a starter were the best ones I have ever had and we ended up ordering a second order because they were just so good! Additionally the pickled deviled eggs and Mac and Brie were very good as well. For a main I got the ginger beef and... it's was Fantastic! Perfectly cooked. The service was a little slow but it was from being seeming understaffed. Our waiter was running around the whole night waiting on half of the restaurant but still was transparent in food wait times and made sure we had our drinks while waiting! Excellent service. The food was delicious with some unusual dishes. The macha tea mussels were in a green macha tea topped with wasabi tobiko. Mussels were good size and the macha tea tasted really good. The ginger beef was delicious with the right amount of pickled ginger and roasted shishito peppers. They also had some flamed ginger syrup with brandy. The crispy chicken with chili honey and Thai chili were very tasty. The chili pepper had a good kick to them. The sides were truffle Parmesan potatoes and fried artichokes. Both tasted very good. The strawberry field dessert was really good with a strawberry sorbet in the middle of edible rice paper in the shape of an oyster surrounded by fresh strawberries, cream and a type of preserves.
