    Steak bolognese

We were lucky to get in on a Friday evening. The restaurant was small and crammed in on one side, so I was thrilled when we were taken on the other side. The other room was roomy and open. It had a comfortable setting with benches that had cushions. The staff were all extremely nice and attentive. Our main waiter was great with explaining the menu and pointing out what was really good on the menu. I ordered the steak with truffles on top sitting on a truffle cream sauce that was delicious. There was little black specs of Parmesan that looked like dirt on the sides and it had a little herb leaf sticking out of it. I tasted it, and it added just the right amount of flavor to the steak, truffle, and cream sauce. It was superb. My son ordered. Ordered stew beef bolognese, which he enjoyed immensely. Beware of the bread scam. They put bread on the table and then charge you per person for partaking of the bread. I didn't even eat it but they charge a cover charge for sitting down and eating bread. Let them know you don't want any bread if you don't really want it. It was a nice place and they don't rush you to leave. They also bring cold limoncello shots after dinner. I would definitely go back there.

Wow, what an amazing experience we had. My husband and I were visiting from California, and we went here for dinner on our last night in Florence. 1. Beautiful and rustic interior design. 2. Our waiter was just amazing. He gave us recommendations based on our inquiries and was very accommodating as we were quite indecisive with choosing from their wine selections and entrees. He gave us a couple of choices for red wine and white wine to taste before choosing. He also showed us our cut of steak before it was cooked as we weren't sure if we could consume what we thought might've been too much (but it turned out to be just the right amount!). He truly gave 5-star service. 3. The food was so delicious, presentable and memorable. We got the risotto (so creamy and melts in your mouth) and tagliolini with fresh truffle (smoky and light) for our first course. Second course was the florentine steak (tender, savory, and cooked to perfection) with roasted potatoes (salted just right). Lastly, dessert was a classic tiramisu. They offered us complimentary digestif to end our meal as well. I truly recommend Brandolino to anyone visiting Florence. There are many restaurant choices, but Brandolino would be a great one to make.

The food suggestions were superb! We had the duck and ravioli. Such a prize find highly suggest quaint atmosphere and beautiful service. An amazing end to our Florence vacation.

On our final night in Florence, we decided to have a fabulous dinner..and Brandolino did not disappoint. Recommended by our photographer, Brandolino had filling but moderate portion sizes, and everything was cooked to order, and wonderfully made. The service was attentive and they were quick to offer personal recommendations. I was warned that dinner reservations fill up very quickly, so I personally called to make sure we reserved a table for our party. We arrived about 10 mins late, but called to give them a heads up. We had to wait about another 15 mins to be seated, but they also graciously offered us Prosecco for our wait...nice touch! Overall, this restaurant is well decorated and styled, the service thoughtful and personable, and the food is worth the trip. Highly recommend!

Brandolino is an INCREDIBLE restaurant in Florence! Make a reservation now because you don't wanna miss this. What they offer is an elected and modern take on traditional Italian dishes. The restaurant itself is beautiful with a very attentive wait staff paying close attention to every detail. We were constantly attended to in regards to food, plates, & wine service. Our wine was suggested by our server and it was incredible!! The next time we are in Florence this will be a MUST on our list and would recommend to anyone visiting or living in the area !

Absolutely astonishing! In a high traffic tourist area directly across from the Medici Chapel and yet delivered food and service like we we well loved Italian friends. Exceptional food, outstanding service and a quintessential Italian setting made for multiple nights of delicious eating. An absolute must visit!

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Florence. The menu is amazing. The atmosphere (a Renaissance chapel with an amazing history) is incredible. The location (a 3-minute walk from the Duomo) is ideal. Also, when you eat at Brandolino, you are treated like family. Don't be surprised to be greeted by the owner/chef, who takes GREAT pride in the food he serves. I've tried many different entrees here, and I have loved them all. The pastas are subtle enough so that you can taste all the flavors, and the Florentine Steak melts in your mouth. If you are in Florence, absolutely make time to visit this restaurant. It will be memorable!

    Cheers!

Fantastic restaurant. Extra special. A must go. The main event is the T-bone steak, kind of like the number one dish in Florence. Every restaurant has one and at this place, it is really terrific. Everything else was great too. Lived the salad. Tuscan white beans were garlicky and delicious. Cacio e pepe??? Great! Wine was good, service was great. Not super expensive. You're gonna love this place.

This restaurant was nothing short of excellent! The staff were incredibly friendly, the service was top tier, and the food was absolutely divine. We visited multiple times during our trip to Florence, this restaurant is a favorite & we will definitely be back! I attached photos of some favorites - ravioli stuffed with pecorino, caramelized shallot and pecorino sauce; Chocolate lava cake & wild berries sauce; Grilled sirloin dry-aged with rucola, aromatic oil, grana flakes; Beef Wellington. A must try restaurant on your trip to Florence!!

We absolutely love this place from the people, to the food to the service!!! I can't say enough about this place and Besi is a gem! We are here twice while in Italy because no other restaurant compare to it. Please make reservations in advance as this place books up quickly and I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on this experience. We ordered the steak and roasted potatoes and spaghetti with lemon sauce

Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. It was one of those memorable family travel moments that you don't forget. A terrific meal, a unique historic setting, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. This was one of our favorite dining experiences in Florence, and I highly recommend it.

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.

The Octopus was beautifully prepared and presented, but didn't have much flavor. They nailed the Espresso Martini! One of the best I've ever had! We ordered the huge Florentine steak to share between 4 of us and it was more than enough. Ultimately what knocked this review down to 3 stars and what was really disappointing was how they targeted us as tourists with the note at the bottom of the bill (see picture). It read "GRATUITY NOT INCLUDED" in all CAPITAL LETTERS. Also note it was the only thing in English on the entire bill. If it had been our first meal in Florence we might have fallen for this tactic, however it was our last. There's definitely some hostility towards tourists in Florence. Don't get me wrong, some of the people and restaurants we've visited have been very welcoming and friendly. However we recently saw tourist taxes go up significantly, and then you see tricks like this on the bill at La Giostra. This was the ONLY restaurant in Florence where we encountered this. Once jet fuel prices make flying a relic of the past I would argue that some Europeans who depend on tourists for their livelihood may not miss our presence but will certainly miss our spending.
