Have to ding them a star for the service, our waiter was a bit rushed, and very impatient with our lack of Italian. We found this little gem by luck. Just strolling through. Greeted by a very friendly waitress to be seated outside. I had the most amazing gnocchi!! It was so creamy and delicious. We picked Osteria dell'Olio based on the Yelp score, and past experiences of Yelp diners. I am sorry to say, we did not receive the same level of service, has had been reported, and we found the food, well, mediocre. Service was very poor. After we were seated by whom I assume to be the Restaurant Manager, it must have been 12-15 minutes before the Restaurant Manager brought us bread, then went inside and chased the waiter to our table. The waiter then made a lame joke about having forgotten about us. Two of our group ordered a Osteria dell'Olio special: Fusilli Pasta with Green Pesto. They described it as "tasteless." They said no amount of Parmesan Cheese could save it. One in our group ordered another Osteria dell'Olio special: Tagliatelle Pasta with Meat Sauce (described by the server as Ragu). She said no amount of salt or Parmesan Cheese could save it. I tasted it myself, twice. It was awful. I had ordered off the menu, I Paccheri Dell'Osteria, I found it OK, but to be fair, put enough bacon in any dish, and I am a happy man. Still, nothing to write home about -- and my dish was the best on the table. Very disappointing, in light of the rave reviews this restaurant has received in the past. After we had finished, some time passed, then the Restaurant Manager again chased down the waiter. The waiter came to our table and said "did you think I had forgotten about you? Your are right, I did. See, I am honest, I only lie to my wife, and none of you are she, so there is no reason to lie to you. I tell the truth." I asked for the check, and he asked, "why, are you in a hurry?" He seemed surprised when three of us answered as one, "yes!" We could not wait to get out of there. He left to prepare the bill, as the Restaurant Manager brought us four, cold Lemoncellos. I guess the first clue that there was a problem was, in a restaurant that reviews said reservations were a must, that there were several tables available at prime dining time. The second clue that there is a problem was, when we sat down, several tables around us had not been cleared, even after the people had left. It has been my experience, throughout Italy, that plates and utensils are cleared and replaced between courses, and I have found the table has always been cleared when we finished a meal. The third clue was that there was a problem was the obvious tension between the Restaurant Manager and the waiter. I cannot, in good conscious, recommend the food or service at Osteria dell'Olio to Yelp users. 2 1/2 Stars, and it is only this high because of the efforts of the Restaurant Manager. His efforts kept the evening from being a complete disaster. Future Yelp diners may not be so lucky. read more

We happened to stumble upon this place by chance and I'm so happy we did. Our waiter Nico was the best!!! He suggested the perfect bottle of red wine to accompany the steak fiorentino we had ordered. I like my steak cooked medium and my husband likes it well done. Nico was able to please both our palettes by bringing it out cooked to my liking. He finished cooking slices of steak to my husband's liking on the cast iron skillet table side. He then plated our steak with a drizzle of olive oil and freshly cracked pepper. Hands down, one of the best steaks I've ever had. We finished off our meal with perfectly chilled limoncello as suggested by Nico. We were nearing the end of our Florence trip and wanted to treat ourselves to a dinner at a romantic restaurant and to try this Bistecca Florentina that everyone always talks about. This restaurant was perfect for a date night, with dim lighting, modern decor, and attentive service. There was a great mix of people from young girls ready to go out for the night to older fellows sipping liquor and taking their time catching up. As for the food, it was decadent but delicious. We had a rich, pillowy blue cheese gnocchi. Be warned, it was very heavy, but the texture of the gnocchi was heavenly. And then of course, the steak. I'm not sure if it was this particular place, this particular order, or the Florentine style in general, but I found it to be a bit lacking in flavor. The meat was pretty tender and of course it was quite an impressive sight to see with its huge portions and surrounded by gorgeous potatoes. But for 30 euro a person for the order, I suppose I was expecting a bit more. But by looking at some of the other reviews, looks like this is one of the best places to get it, so maybe I'm just more of an American steak girl? As a nice finishing touch, they gave us a chilled glass of their homemade liquor (very similar to limoncello) with our dessert. It was pretty strong for my weak taste buds, but I liked sipping it anyway and thought it was a wonderful gesture. Located just a couple of blocks away from the Duomo with ample outdoor seating.The waitstaff were pleasant and attentive while not intrusive while we enjoyed a slow delicious meal. The local Chianti was excellent and reasonably priced. But the huge Bistecca was incredible. Cooked Medium Rare rather than bloody rare as I have had in the past it was juicy and melt in your mouth tender with just the right amount of Char from grilling. The food here was excellent. I wish I could say the same for the service. My waiter basically just handed me the menus and brought me what I ordered, rather robotically. Having been in Florence for 2 weeks, I was tired of pasta and wanted something different so I ordered the salmon with spinach and it was excellent. In Italy you don't have to worry about them overcooking the food, so being slightly undercooked was perfect. I also had the homemade Tiramisu (which I learned from reading the menu, not from the waiter) and it was one of the best I've ever had. It was a bit pricey compared to restaurants in the same area, but the quality of food was very good. There's too many good restaurants in Florence so I have no compelling reason to try this one again, especially since they don't seem to care if I did come back. Not even a "thank you", "arrivederci", or "good-bye" when I left. The nice thing about Italy is that the "coperto" (cover charge) is included on the bill, so tipping is not expected as it is in the U.S. The coperto was 3 euros which is higher than most restaurants I've been to. Long over due review... My wife and I took my daughter and her two friends here while visiting them at their University. This is the best Restaurant in Florence. The owner and staff made us feel like we were family. We came here for the famous Florentine steak which was the best steak I ever had... An amazing presentation, perfectly cooked and accompanied by the most delicious roasted potatoes you'll ever eat. We also ordered several great Antipasto items as well as the Truffle & Carpaccio d Oca bibs and the Tagliatelle with Ragu. Everything was truly delicious and the pastas were perfectly al dente! I haven't stopped talking about this fabulous meal and restaurant since I left. My sister and brother in-law visited Florence a few months later and the owner remembered us with details. They were also very impressed and treated like family. I'm planning a trip back to Italia and will visit Florence just to visit Osteria dell'Olio! read more

The food is amazing. My wife and I shared the fish of the day Branzino. They bring the entire cooked fish out to you and de-bone it in front of you. That way you can see you are actually getting what you pay for and it melts in your mouth. However, I don't understand why they charge you per person for bread, the "coperto" that should be charged per table not per person! I stumbled upon this gem over 3 years ago while walking back to our B&B as we were lovely tourists in this amazing city. It's situated in the center of Florence, next to the Duomo. I'm going to tell you, I might be a little biased, as I am now a regular at this establishment due to the lifelong friends I have made there since my first meal, but the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. When I first ate there, I had this steak carpaccio that made me want to cry over it, and honey, this was just the appetizer. The chef made this calamarti pasta that was this red wine, meat sauce concoction. Ended up to be my favorite pasta in all of Florence. Amatriciana to be my favorite in all of Italy. The bisteca, well, when a piece of meat melts in your mouth like a listerine strip? It was the best I had in Florence. The service? Immaculate. Your server would always be at your side if you needed anything, even when you thought you needed something, someone would come up and ask you if you needed anything. The chef hails from Sicily, so you know that anything or anyone Sicilian knows how to cook. And cook stupendously! I just visited a month ago and first stop right after I got off from the train? You know it. You guys, my friend had this seafood risotto that I kept spooning off when he wasn't looking, as I was still eating my stuffed pasta. I'm not a big fan of risotto, but man, I dreamt about it that night, so I came for lunch and ordered the seafood risotto with a side of truffled pasta. Two bowls in front of me probably immediately screams "Tourist!" but don't judge me, I'm on vacation ;) The menu changes due to the seasons, so I was sad and so bummed when I couldn't have the calamarati or the steak carpaccio. But that truffle pasta and the risotto and the penne arrabiata, which was perfectly al dente, the Caesar salad, bisteca, tutto, everything, made up for it. As it was Buono! Delicious! The ambiance is perfect for a date night, girls night, tourist night, any night really. But be forewarned, they get packed, it's considered Tuscan chic, which truth be told, not a lot of tourists come too as it's usually packed with locals. I am in love. I read about this place here on Yelp and decided to go, now I am glad I did. The best pasta I've had since arriving to Italy this week. I had a round shaped pasta with beef filet and red wine sauce and it was to die for. I will be dreaming about it my whole trip home. The waiters were very nice and attentive. The ambience was very chic. I had the chocolate surprise dessert and it was amazing as well. They brought us complimentary liquor at the end and they told us it was "their production." The staff was friendly, professional and did not rush us out the door to seat someone else. Last night we returned to our favorite dinner spot in Florence to find that it has not changed. The food is still the freshest I've ever had, the wine was paired perfectly and the staff was as welcoming as ever. If you really want to treat yourself, get the famous Bistecca Fiorentina. All of the guidebooks say that you have to try this steak while in Florence. I've had it a few places and this place is the best! Please do yourself a favor and do NOT send it back to be cooked some more... it's supposed to be medium rare. read more

From the delicious antipasto with various Tuscan meats to amazing pasta dishes we were extremely happy. We were traveling with a friend who was gluten free and they had gluten free pasta which made his visit extra special. (Finding gluten-free pasta in Italy has been very difficult). The table we were given was next to the door, so you could smell the cigarette smoke from outside. We nicely asked if we could move because of that, and our server acted as if that wasn't a valid reason. I get it, everyone smokes in Florence, but it's too much!
