Wow, this place is amazing. Our waiter was very friendly and he was super hilarious. He made jokes and it enlightened the room. He provided us with excellent service. We ordered the 2.6 lb dry aged Florentine steak and gnocchi. The Florentine steak is a must try steak here. It was very juicy, tender, and it was bursting with flavor. The meat was nice and chewy. The steak was gigantic and it is bigger than my head. They first bring out the raw steak and weight it in front of you. The steak is enough to share for three people. The gnocchi was also very delicious. It was cheesy and rich. It was also in a way creamy and the cheese just melted in your mouth. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth and eaten. The cheesecake is very famous in this restaurant. We tried it and understand why. The cheesecake was super creamy and soft. I had a great time and experience here. Another excellent spot we tried in Florence. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated immediately. The staff was very friendly and our waiter was Nugo. He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Fyi there are two locations, make sure you go to the correct one (only two blocks apart). Wonderful, laid back but inviting ambiance. Waiter was super friendly, taking time to explain their wines in detail and food options. They even have a kids menu with sizeable portions for older kids. This was the second place where we ate dinner in Florence, and on this particular night we were in the mood for lasagna. Unfortunately, I decided to visit Google and Yelp reviews, which are at the disposal and discrepancy of the American taste and appetite and not local tastebuds. This was my first attention to detail when arriving at a restaurant in Italy where it's obvious you're American, but unfortunate that they pair you along with other American's who enjoy ranch on salad dressing and don't understand virgin olive oil and red wine vinaigrette is what one tosses that salad with here. We were greeted amicably and the server only brought to our table bread and no olive oil. I had to request it. Surprised. The dining area was busy, and it felt as if this restaurant was ideal for friendly family gatherings. We weren't in the mood for wine, and here's where I learned that it's considered sacrilege drinking water and no wine with dinner here. I like wine, but don't need it at every meal. Plus, we don't drink a lot of alcohol. I also had been fighting a cold and wanted plenty of water. The waiter didn't seem to understand, but I digress. La Buchetta is a landmark steakhouse in Florence, and for good reason. Sure, there are plenty of tourists and foreign students that roll through every night (guilty as charged), but they still offer fantastic food experiences for the tourist and the local alike. We ate here twice during our stay in Florence. The experience was fantastic both nights, with different dining experiences: Night one was the steak experience, and it was simply one of the best meals of a two week trip in Nirthern Italy. Pasta courses that were amazing (truffle-y and cheese-y) preceded our for-the-table steak. The steak? Fantastic. Marbled the right way, grilled just enough to give us that Maillard boost. We cut all that we could find off of the bone, saucing it as was suggested- olive oil and salt, mixed on the plate, and that's it. It wasn't heavy, it was just enough, and it made for fantastic sobremesa before the tiramisu and limoncello. There are bigger cuts n the menu, some served with the tallow candle presentation (yum), and if there had been four of us, we may have gone that route. Night two, and the service staff says: "You had steak last night, so let's get you some light pasta and some nice salad." You're right, friend. Let's go that route, and leave feeling like we've been cared for, and still leave having enjoyed more truffle and cheese and seasonal goodness. And of course, I'll take that coffee and limoncello. This was my family and I's last dinner in Florence. I have been here before back in 2019, and La Buchetta delivered the same as a few years ago. Our server Eledo was absolutely incredible. He took the time to share the history of the restaurant and give us a full informational review of the menu, as my family has never been. Our food was so amazing, it is by far the best lasagna I have ever had in my life. We also got the caprese for an appetizer, the eggplant, and the gnocchi. We had the tiramisu for dessert, so worth it! After eating we wished we had more time in our trip to go back! This was the one reservation I made when I went to Florence because I had heard so many good things about it. it definitely lived up to my expectations. my boyfriend and I shared one pasta dish, and one protein. I was a little hesitant at first about the steak because it was with blue cheese and walnuts, which was a little out of my comfort zone. The first thing you'll notice upon arriving to La Buchetta is the fantastic, high level of service. Every single server, host, and cook with whom we interacted was friendly, helpful, and full of energy. We received complimentary, celebratory drinks and a special brownie dessert to commemorate the occasion. Both were delicious. The next thing you'll notice is the romance of the restaurant itself. Dimmed lighting and walls plucked right out of history (with a special glass window peering into a historic room somewhere in Florence) make for an unforgettable locale. We could have sat in that restaurant for hours! And finally, the food is masterful. Our appetizer was a mozzarella cheese and tomato combo. It was fresh, simple, and delicious. Be warned! Appetizers are large and not necessary. We found that by the time pastas were served, we were already stuffed. The truffle demonstration was unique and silly, but made for a great pasta. The pici special was good, but I did think the whole pasta being made inside the cheese wheel is a bit gimmicky. The risotto I thought was maybe a bit overcooked, but flavors were excellent and I thought the shrimp was great. The two salads were also delicious. Both were super fresh and a great way to cut through the richness of the pastas. The space is fairly small and cramped given how popular it is. That being said, didn't feel too claustrophobic. For out last night in Firenze meal we chose La Buchetta. It was a great choice with exquisite decor inside and wonderful food and friendly service. We had to go here to try the infamous Pici Special which is pasta prepared tableside with a cheese sauce inside of a Pecorino Cheese wheel. My wife and I shared this dish. So much cheese! Delicious! My daughter chose the Ricotta Cheese and Spinach stuffed ravioli with a blue cheese sauce and caramelized shallots and fried sage. I tasted this and it was wonderful as well. Along with a Negroni (created here in Firenze!) and a few other drinks, and a pistachio cannoli with espressos for dessert, we had an excellent time here at La Buchetta. The decor inside is very well done with over 5,000 corks creating an immense arched doorway and other artwork around the interior. We were told each cork was from a wine bottle opened at La Buchetta. Absolute best meal we had in Florence. We shared the Florentine steak (how could we not try the dish for which this restaurant and region is known?), as well as the "Angels and Demon" gnocchi-- both were tremendous. The gnocchi was somehow both light and rich, with beautiful pulls of cheese as you took each bite, and the steak is weighed at your table, then dressed / cut tableside as well. To add to the special "production" feel, we also ordered rye gelato, made fresh table side with a few fresh ingredients and liquid nitrogen -- it was amazing! The restaurant is small, so get reservations in advance, and tip your server even (ours was incredibly friendly, funny, and attentive, and we felt welcomed throughout). Hubby and I celebrated our anniversary here. We had a reservation ahead of time online, which was a bit odd of a process b/c you sign up, but they'll confirm 48 hours in advance, so it was kinda up in the air for a couple days. But they did confirm the reservation via email. We were there on Halloween, 10/31/2024, and I guess dinner time we picked was not their peak time, good for us b/c then we saw some folks walk-in and were seated right away. I would rather have had a reservation than chance it. Initially, we were sat at a table in the back room which felt a bit cramped for me with no air circulation back there. We were also sorta near the restroom, but not the closest table to the restroom. It just felt a bit too claustrophobic back there. Our server was very kind and friendly and offered us his menu recommendations. Unfortunately, I just didn't like where we were sat when there were a few tables available in the front room. Our server was kind and moved us tables, but sadly that meant we also got a different server :( but he assured us he'd take care of us lol and he told our new server that we were celebrating our anniversary. Idk why they didn't just seat us in the front room where there was more space but whatevs. I got their bleu cheese pasta, and it was amazing. the bleu cheese sauce was soooooo yummy. Recommendation from server #1. hubby got their gnocchi (also recommended dish) and not only was it the most beautiful and eye appealing gnocchi I've ever seen, but it also tasted amazing. I had gnocchi once before and I didn't like it but this one was delicious and melted in your mouth. Tell me why mid way through our meal, I took a closer look at the art work next to me and it had the artist's last name in the corner of the print. and it was the same as OUR LAST NAME. I couldn't believe my eyes , like was this for real, What are the chances, I thought my eyes were playing tricks b/c how random was that. I didn't expect to see a Spanish last name in an Italian restaurant. I told Hubby, look!!! and then he looked at the one next to him, and it also had our last name in the corner. Of all the tables in the restaurant that they could've re-sat us at, it had to be that one, and that art work was placed there. We asked our server about the art work and he said the artist was French. I kinda tilted my head sideways b/c our last name isn't French but I figured maybe the artist was a French lady and she changed her last name. But then I looked up those paintings to find out more about them. The paintings were French inspired, by a Mexican artist, and what we saw were prints. Talk about coincidence though! I feel like you can't go wrong when ordering but my personal favorites were the gnocchi and ravioli. I also had the truffle pasta, steak(filet and ribeye), side of potatoes, tiramisu, and the chocolate mousse. We loved it so much we went twice in two days. Other reviewers said the gnocchi was the best they've ever had and I laughed thinking they were being hyperbolic. They weren't. The gnocchi is absolutely stunning. Has the perfect marriage of flavors. Same for the ravioli. Well crafted and thought out flavor combinations that almost overwhelm the senses. The waiters are very engaging without being gimmicky. Their food recommendations were on point, as well. There is no way I could eat all this myself. We stared with the Pear and Peccorino salad, which was divine. The sweetness of the pear with the rather mild Peccorino and the bitterness of the spring mix was just perfect. I almost ordered a second one. We also had the grilled filet, medium rare as recommended, and it was very tasty. The roasted potatoes we ordered as a side were simple and amazing. They were so soft and creamy inside and crispy outside. The highlight of the evening was their special pasta. It's a thick spaghetti prepared tabelside by tossing in a Peccorino cheese wheel, with fresh black truffles. My experience with truffles have all been dried, in oil, and likely fake, so I was worried it would be overpowering, but my fears were unfounded. The pasta was perfect! It was decadent without being heavy in my stomach. The flavor was delightfully balanced. I would eat it again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend this dish for both the experience and the taste. Holy wow, if you want a place to get good Florentine steak in an intimate setting with attentive servers, run here! You'll likely have to make a reservation online but it's worth it! We ordered the Florentine steak with a pasta and appetizer and topped things off with dessert. The steak has a minimum spend and there were three of us and the minimum was PLENTY. They'll show you the cut and weigh it in front of you and then go back and grill it up, their recommended temperature is very rare (but not bloody because of the aged steak). If you have folks with different preferences at your table, the servers can take a few pieces after the initial cooking of the steak and grill it up to your preferred temperature.
