Pappardelle with duck ragu
Jess F.

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. No wonder it's always fully booked here!!The owner is so welcoming and kind, taking the time to introduce himself, the menu, and provide personal recommendations. The servers check in frequently and are quick to help with anything you need. The ambiance is lively with popular music, laughter, and conversation. We chatted with the table next to us on the way out and met some fellow Texans! On our way out, the owner also remembered my name and started introducing me to other tables to make friends. What a fun place to be! The food was absolutely amazing. When we saw them slicing the salami right in front of us, we decided to order the salami plate and we were so glad we did! The zucchini flower and saffron pasta was bursting with flavor and the pasta was so perfectly cooked. I couldn't get enough! The duck ragu pasta was also hearty, rich, and delicious. The sauce was so good, my family soaked up every last bit with our bread. The ricotta spinach ravioli was also amazing!! Again the sauce was such a standout. The ravioli was so fresh with the perfect amount of bite. The green pepper sauce steak was soooo good. Cooked perfectly, with such a unique sauce that the whole peppercorns added perfectly to in texture and spice. Finally, the raspberry tiramisu. We were so full, but when they set these down our dessert stomachs were ready. They were amazing! Not the strongest raspberry flavor, but still such a delicious end to the meal. Side note, you MUST have a reservation to eat here, and they only take reservations by call. Because I didn't have a way to call them, I asked my Airbnb hosts who did it for me (also amazing people). While we were eating, there was a crowd forming outside of people waiting to get in but unable to. It's so worth it to visit Vini e Vecchi Sappori! I'll definitely have to come back next time I'm in Florence.

I don't even know where to start. This is my favorite restaurant I've eaten at. They have a rotating menu but you cannot go wrong with any of the dishes. Every dish is crafted with so much love and care! I got the steak fillet with pepper sauce and that was by far the best bite of meat I've had. The raspberry tiramisu also brought tears to my eyes. The service was superb. Everyone was so nice and inviting, it felt like I was visiting family and eating a home cooked meal! The restaurant itself was super small and cozy. Everything about this was perfect! Highly recommend going if you have the chance. They don't do walk ins -- you must make a res. Your best chance is to get your hotel to call and make a res for you or drop in and put your name down for a later date. This place is well worth the visit.

This was hands down our favorite restaurant from our visit to Italy. We had to get an Italian friend to call and make reservations ahead of time because there legit isn't another way to reserve a table, trust me I tried. This cozy spot sports fun decor, attentive service, and fresh delicious food. Do yourself a favor and order the house wine. It is inexpensive but absolutely delicious. The favorite bite of the night was a spicy tomato spaghetti. I won't focus too much on the specific dishes because the menu changes daily. The caprice salad was simple but super fresh and delicious. The fried zucchini flower was crisp and fresh, and the ravioli spinach ricotta dish was so so good. My sister ordered beef stew and it was served like roast (not a soup) and was very tender and good. I highly recommend!!!!

Our last night in Italy and by far our best meal in Italy. But to call it a meal is underserving it because it's truly an experience. It's such an unassuming little spot that would be easy to walk by if there weren't so many people waiting outside. Tommaso could not be a more gracious host, welcoming us as soon as we got there and checking in on us every few minutes and reassuring us that our table wouldn't be much longer. We did wait a fair amount of time after our reservation but we didn't even mind because the energy of the area is so infectious. Plus Tommaso gave us a free glass of sparkling wine. We ordered way too much food and each was a delight: - Prosciutto and melon: I may not eat melon any other way again. - Beef carpaccio: We probably get this to often and this was fine - Chicken liver pate: I am typically not a huge fan of this dish but this one may have persuaded me to keep trying as it was so creamy and delicious. - Pappardelle with duck ragu: Maybe the best pasta we had in Italy. - Paccheri with zucchini: So light, so creamy, so delicious. At this point we were full, but kept going. - Lamb chops: Would have eaten the whole bone if I could. - Fried chicken: How is this so light and airy? Certainly not the fried chicken you'd expect in the US and wish it were. The meal is accompanied by an ever-changing playlist of Madonna, ABBA, etc. Everyone there is having a great time and it feels like I was having dinner at a good friend's dinner party. Definitely a must.

A Hidden Culinary Treasure: Vini e Vecchi Sapori Tucked away in the winding streets of Florence lies a true gem that embodies everything magical about Italian dining - Vini e vecchi sapori. This charming family-owned restaurant is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stumbled upon the city's best-kept secret, and honestly, you probably have. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped by an atmosphere that feels authentically, unmistakably artful and Italian. The hospitality here isn't just professional - it's deeply personal, warm, and genuine. Dining at Vini e vecchi sapori truly feels like being invited to dinner at a dear friend's home, where every detail is thoughtfully considered and every guest is treated like family. The menu is nothing short of incredible, showcasing cuisine that dreams are made of. For your first course, I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional the chicken liver is. This isn't just any appetizer - it's a masterclass in how simple, quality ingredients can be transformed into something truly sublime. The preparation honors the rustic traditions of Florentine cooking while delivering flavors that are both comforting and sophisticated. The pasta selections deserves special recognition, as every single dish is clearly made by hand with extraordinary care. You can taste the difference that comes from authentic family recipes and techniques passed down through loving hands. Each bite carries the essence of authentic Italian craftsmanship - tender, perfectly textured, and bursting with the kind of flavor that only comes from homemade preparation. But if you order just one main course, make it the osso buco. I can confidently say this is the finest osso buco I've eaten in all of Florence. The meat falls off the bone with the gentlest touch of a fork, braised to absolute perfection in a rich, complex sauce that speaks to hours of patient, skillful preparation. It's the kind of dish that reminds you why you fell in love with Italian cuisine in the first place. Vini e vecchi sapori represents everything that makes dining in Italy special - exceptional food, genuine hospitality, and an atmosphere that turns a simple meal into a cherished memory. This is destination dining at its most authentic, and a restaurant that truly captures the heart and soul of Florentine culinary tradition. Pro Tip: Make a reservation. There's no just walking in to this place... ever!

Vini e Vecchi Sapori came at the recommendation of one of my colleagues who said this was one of the best meals she had in all of Italy. Since I had a loose itinerary for my upcoming trip, I was very open to suggestions and took this as an opportunity to check-off a dinner spot while in Firenze. That being said, we made plans to dine here our last night in the city. All the reviews I read of Vini e Vecchi suggested making a reservation, so I did that before leaving for my trip - it was good advice too as when we arrived anyone who didn't have a reservation was turned away. The restaurant is somewhat small with simple decor, similar to other restaurants we visited in the city. The vibes were on, the people working looked super chill and they had American music from the 80s playing throughout the space. The menu was separated into sections similar to other Tuscan restaurants - apps, pastas, mains, and sides. We decided to start with caprese - this was delicious, the tomatoes and mozz were super fresh. Since it was our last night we each decided to get pasta dishes as well as mains. For my pasta I went with the paccheri with zucchini flowers and saffron; this was delicious - the sauce was creamy without being heavy and the pasta was cooked well, really one of the best pasta dishes I had in Firenze. For my main I had the beef stew - this was prepared well with a good amount of seasoning. The beef was very tender, and it was paired with flat green beans on the side that proved to be a great complement. We also got a side of white beans as a side to share - these were also good, flavorful again without being heavy. We decided to get dessert - I went with the raspberry tiramisu (I love raspberry) which was wonderful - it was creamy with just enough raspberry flavor. Service was great, there seems to be a good bunch of people running the restaurant. Overall, I had an excellent experience at Vini e Vecchi Sapori - the food and vibes were spot on and I would definitely consider returning.

I worked in the food service industry for 18 years, in fact I met my wife while we were both working at an Italian restaurant. I'm 62 so I'm sure I don't remember all the meals I've had but to my recollection this was the best food service atmosphere combination I've ever experienced. The zucchini flour pasta was absolutely incredible and the fillet with green pepper corn sauce with something immediately looked for recipes for. The staff was incredible, attentive, upbeat, and never made us feel rushed or that we were putting them out. We got there for our Reservation and had to wait an additional 45 minutes, but that was part of the experience. The manager brought us parmigiano cheese and a glass of Prosecco and brought stools out for us to sit in. I would go so far as to say if you're in Florence, you have to visit this restaurant.

Super fun tiny spot that has truly good food. Highly recommend to eat here while in Florence. Must make reservations as it's always packed. You won't regret this place.

Chocolate profiteroles... mmm!
Joel S.

What an amazing evening at this excellent restaurant! The party like atmosphere began the moment we arrived. The outgoing host served glasses of Prosecco to everyone as they waited. The restaurant was so busy that he had to switch to wine glasses, then water glasses. We wound up chatting with other parties during our brief wait. This contributed to the convivial vibe. It continued after we were seated with people chatting with diners at adjacent tables in the cozy space. This culminated in most of the restaurant singing along to "Sweet Caroline!" It was really like something out of a movie. The host and staff were uniformly charming and helpful. The relatively small menu was excellent. We started off with a good bottle of vino nobile di Montepulciano, but the Barolo was next level. Everything that we tried was excellent. We started off with assorted Tuscan Salumi that brought a smile to my face. The zucchini salad was really good. Props to the fried artichokes, which were at platonic ideal level. My buddy and I split a simple sounding order of fettuccine with artichokes that can only be described as magisterial. A little kick of chile pepper took it to the next level. This was a top five pasta dish. It's also what my wife ordered as her entree. My other friends had chicken cacciatore with a deep olive studded sauce. I ordered the beef stew. It was fall apart tender with the texture of brisket or pot roast and an intense sauce with black peppercorns. It was served with awesome long beans. I watched some great looking steak Florentine served at the next table. I learned that this restaurant is willing to cook their steak beyond the barely dead to rare state that most other restaurants insist on. I hope that disclosing this won't get them in trouble, but that is what I will get the next time that we visit. Dessert continued at the same high level with chocolate profiteroles and crisp biscotti with vin santo. Prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and level of service. If you can only have one dinner in Florence, do yourself a favor and make it here! Six stars!

We ordered the 2.6 lb dry aged Florentine steak and gnocchi. The Florentine steak is a must try steak here. It was very juicy, tender, and it was bursting with flavor. The meat was nice and chewy. The steak was gigantic and it is bigger than my head. They first bring out the raw steak and weight it in front of you. The steak is enough to share for three people. The gnocchi was also very delicious. It was cheesy and rich. It was also in a way creamy and the cheese just melted in your mouth. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth and eaten. The cheesecake is very famous in this restaurant. We tried it and understand why. The cheesecake was super creamy and soft. I had a great time and experience here. He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

Wow, what a special place…read more Set inside a 14th-century tower near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, this restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. It was one of those memorable family travel moments that you don't forget. A terrific meal, a unique historic setting, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Octopus was beautifully prepared and presented, but didn't have much flavor. They nailed the Espresso Martini! One of the best I've ever had! We ordered the huge Florentine steak to share between 4 of us and it was more than enough. Ultimately what knocked this review down to 3 stars and what was really disappointing was how they targeted us as tourists with the note at the bottom of the bill (see picture). It read "GRATUITY NOT INCLUDED" in all CAPITAL LETTERS. Also note it was the only thing in English on the entire bill. If it had been our first meal in Florence we might have fallen for this tactic, however it was our last. There's definitely some hostility towards tourists in Florence. Don't get me wrong, some of the people and restaurants we've visited have been very welcoming and friendly. However we recently saw tourist taxes go up significantly, and then you see tricks like this on the bill at La Giostra. This was the ONLY restaurant in Florence where we encountered this. Once jet fuel prices make flying a relic of the past I would argue that some Europeans who depend on tourists for their livelihood may not miss our presence but will certainly miss our spending.
