We checked with a hotel employee for a good recommendation for pasta and he said he liked this place. It was delicious. Some of the best bruschetta I've tasted! The service was great. We sat by the doors that open into the streets. It was fun to people watch while dining. We had the asparagus & bruschetta appetizers. For dinner I tried the tomato risotto and my husband the truffle pasta. We both enjoyed our entrees. We did not have room for dessert. The only negative was their bread. This was our first meal in Florence and honestly was one of my most memorable and enjoyable of our entire trip. Maybe because I was hungry and jet lagged or maybe because I loved the casual, welcoming ambience, my memory of this place and the food they served here really made a positive impression on me. We loved their steamed fish so much that we ended up ordering it for takeout on another day. And the simple penne we ordered made me realize for the first time was "al dente" truly meant and that we Americans have been eating severely over cooked pasta our entire lives. This was a HOT summer, 35 degrees Celsius (94 F), & the AC was set at 30 C, so we didn't get the cool-down that we expected during our lunch. AMAZING! We started with the carpaccio and artichoke salad which were fantastic. After the appetizers we simply had pasta, I had the gnocchi and our daughter had the ravioli and wife had risotto (not pictured). Each dish was very delicious, so difficult to explain how light all the pasta was, don't get me wrong they were all really rich and so satisfying. The service was excellent and you really couldn't ask for a better location. I simply love trattorias and if you go to Italy and are looking for a good place to eat you really can't go wrong with a trattoria. First restaurant we dined in on our visit to Florence. Definitely felt the charm and vibe of an Italian theme inside. We actually ate here twice, my husband enjoyed his meals so much. The first time we ordered beef filet with mushrooms and the truffle pasta. Both were very good - very flavorful. An amazing first meal in Florence! Side dish of asparagus was plain steamed asparagus, no seasoning, overcooked and so mushy that it was not edible. As we settled in, we noticed almost everybody coming in had a reservation, so make sure to get a reservation as we likely got lucky for the time of day. Reservations are done online. We were so fortunate to have this amazing and affordable restaurant next to the place we stayed! The restaurant is very close to the Uffizi Gallery and Galieo Museum, so if you are near or is planning a day near those spots, be sure to check this place out! You won't be disappointed! We came here for dinner around 7 pm. We didn't make any reservations and did not want to compete for a table during prime dinner time of 8 pm. When we arrived, the restaurant was not packed at all! Only 2 to 3 tables were seated. The host sat us promtly. We ordered an appetizer, first, and second course, and a bottle of house wine (all to share between 2 people). The portions were pretty large (sorry not pics of the main dishes since I was to excited to eat! The bruschetta was very tasty and the tomatoes treated fresh. The first course of gnocchi with tomato sauce was also very fresh and tasty! The second course of the beef fillet with green peppers was cooked medium rare (the staff didn't ask for a preference so I assume this is how it is cooked in Florence). This fish was also very flavorful! The beef fillet slices easily and wasnt tough to eat. The meal came with complimentary bread. The house wine was also delicious! It is on the dryer end and only 11€. Between the 2 of us, it only cost 50€! read more

Ok, this may not be the very best restaurant in the city but you won't have to pay for your meals like it is either. My wife & I had a great dinner with a bottle of wine for less than 35 euros! I had the skewered & grilled prawns with nicely sliced and grilled zucchini. I also asked for a side of spinach. The prawns were perfectly cooked and the zucchini was grilled just right (I'm not a fan of zucchini but this was nice!). The spinach needed a bit more flavor so I squeezed the lemon on it that came with the prawns and it was also good. My wife pasta with truffle cream sauce. It was creamy and delicious. After seeing online reviews and pictures, we were interested in visiting this trattoria. The Staff was gracious and inviting. We arrived about 30 minuets after they opened for dinner and found only 3 other groups of Americans. The place was packed with locals by the time we left. Our dinner was amazing. The appetizer was much bigger than we expected which should have been a clue. All of the portions were large. My wife and I shared an appetizer, had our own pasta, and shared a secondi. We were stuffed. The pasta was incredible. My gnocchi was the best pasta dish I have ever had. A great mouth feel and wonderful flavor. Simple yet elegant. My wife was very happy with her as well. Excellent food. We found this place from our guidebook and was so happy to find it! Low key restaurant away from all the touristy areas. We sat down and ordered wine. We both tried veal dishes. My husband got scaloppa di vitello al vino bianco (veal escalope cooked in white wine) which was recommended by the guidebook. Unbelievably good - perhaps our best meal by far in Italy. We started with antipasto meat tray which was filled with delicious salamis and big enough to make a meal. My daughter loved the tomato soup which was wonderfully thick. But the main reason to dine here is the steak - think a large filet - thick and juicy - cooked to perfection. Don't bother with the grilled chicken which was the only disappointing item. Finished with a delicious Tiramisu. Was lucky enough to walk in to this restaurant at around 8pm on a Tuesday. Most of the popular restaurants in florence are sold out with reservations for dinner so it's a good idea and not gamble it like I did. Nevertheless I was lucky to get in and the luck was two fold as the food was excellent. This was perhaps my favorite not because of a single great dish but the superb quality of everything thing I had here. The pork chop was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Potatoes had an aroma and flavor of rosemary. The veal with wine sauce was excellent as was the risotto. The tiramisu was good but nothing special. A hidden gem in Firenze!!! We walked and walked to find this place because of the ratings that this restaurant had and it was worth all the footsteps it took to come here and savor some authentic and most delicious Italian food. I had the fish and it was delicately steamed and yet superbly seasoned and deboned. I must say I had to pay attention for the remaining bones but it was not difficult to find. The fish was very fresh and was very very tasty. My husband had veal with some spaghetti on the side and this was the best spaghetti our entire family ever had. My wife had a simple penne type pasta.....a simple Bolognese sauce was just superb. My son had the simple spaghetti with a truffle cream sauce.....so wonderfully aromatic and earthy. Better service and better quality of food than those right next to touristic attractions in all places we have been to during this trip in Italy, and what a relief and comforting experience that we found this restaurant first evening arriving in Florence, after two days eating at over-priced restaurants in Venice where the staff take away your plates and ask you to pay as soon as you put your cutlery down. Found this small restaurant walking down the street. No outdoor seating but they were full so we gave it a try. It did not disappoint. First off, the prices are beyond reasonable. We started with the bruschetta and the prosciutto and melon. Tomatoes in the bruschetta were so tasty and spiced perfectly. However, the prosciutto and melon was incredible. Melon was sweet and ripe draped with a large portion of prosciutto. For dinner, I had a a simple pasta with tomatoes and basil. It hit the spot. Tired of walking around Firenze, finding touristy restaurants that take your wallet to the cleaners only to leave you wanting a real experience of Florentine cuisine? Trattoria Da Benvenuto is the answer to that longing you have felt. Located a mere two blocks from the Arno, the trattoria is a local, family establishment that seems to cater simply to anyone who wants to get a good meal. As a party of three, the first thing we noticed was the healthy mix of both tourists and locals. The interior feels simultaneously old world and modern. Portions of the wall reveal stone masonry, while large exposed timbers carry the ceiling. This is against the modern metal lighting fixtures and paint scheme on the walls. On the menu you'll find some of the best in Tuscan wines and a wide selection of Italian pasta dishes. When we first sat down, we started off with different styles of wine. I tried their cheapest Montepulciano from Abbruzo, while we nibbled on the complementary bread. Although a value, the wine was full bodied and rich, with a subtle spicy undertone. For my meal, I started with rigatoni al pomodoro with eggplant and cheese. The pomodoro sauce was fortunately applied conservatively to the pasta, accompanied with eggplant, herbs, and grated cheese atop the dish. My wife's dish was the creamy cheese gnocchi. The pillowy gnocchi waded in a pool of one of the creamiest cheese sauces I've tasted. Both of the pasta dishes were superb, with the gnocchi as a standout. We moved on to the mains, both of us ordering the truffle eggs. I added a side of fried veggies that complemented the egg well. While the eggs were cooked a bit on the overdone side, the truffle shavings were of a generous portion considering the relatively low price of the entree. Aside from the burned edges of the egg, the meal was rich, flavorful, and delicious. Our meal was of such substance that we passed on their dessert menu, although the selections chosen by our dining neighbors looked decadent. The total price tag for the three of us hit €62 including cover/service fees, a real steal for a big meal in Firenze. Trattoria Da Benvenuto may not be making waves with a trendy or modern cuisine, but it excels in creating authentic Italian meals in a rustic environment for a reasonable price. read more

We discovered the high rating after taking our seats in the air conditioning (AHHH!) and looking it up on Yelp with the free Wifi. What luck. Great lunch at a reasonable price. This is a hidden gem. The quality of the food was above average even for Italy and the prices were probably below average for Firenze. I think we may have had deer pasta, which tasted better than it sounds. The steak with fat flakes of parmiggiano and sweet balsamic over arugula was divine. It was also unpretentious and pretty empty, which made it easy to talk and ask a lot of questions to the waiter.
