Spaghetti Bolognese

Wonderful service and food. At first, my wife and I were worried because no one was outside the restaurant. However, we realized it opened late. Family run. I had the Spaghetti and my wife had the chicken with roasted potatoes. And we had the Pate appetizer, incredible. Delicious! One word of caution, make a reservation.

What a great find while wandering Florence. A superb experience with the staff and food. The menu had so many options. They had a great outside patio but the true beauty was indoors. The restaurant felt so homey and the vibe was just serene.

Our second night in Florence, and we stopped by this gem of a place because it was recommended by our host because of the steak. Apparently, this is a specialty of Florence. We were seated at a nice table right away. We started with a delicious Chianti at the table. There's bread and olive oil at the table. We noticed that the bread was bland but I think that's what the olive oil is for! We decided to share all our food and started with bruschetta. The tomato is fresh and perfectly seasoned. It comes with four slices. Next we ordered ravioli and a pasta dish with duck sauce. Sorry that I don't have photos is that because we are it up! The raviolis were good but not the best ever; however the pasta with duck sauce was super delicious. Pasta was cooked to perfection. Now the steak. It was a little over two pounds. It was delicious. Although we said medium rare, it came more rare than some in our party would've liked. I thought it was delicious although I may have told my husband to cook it a little more if we were home but for some reason it didn't taste rare. I can't explain it. Maybe it's the beef, maybe it's the aging. Maybe it's because we're in Florence! Lastly, cappuccino. I am addicted. The coffee is great everywhere. Honestly, the other day I drank 5 espressos throughout the day and still was able to sleep. But I digress. The waitstaff is nice. The menu is in Italian...no translation but the waitstaff will help if you speak English. The restaurant is cozy like most here.

Spaghetti Ragù !

I had the spaghetti ragù and roasted chicken breast (no pics). The service and food are fantastic. We were waiting in line for pizza next door but it started to rain really hard so we left that line and came here. Sometimes happy accidents are the best. Fantastic meal

Casalinga was recommended to me as an authentic Italian trattoria that had gluten free optoins - and it was the best recommendation of my trip! I got the gluten free pasta (two options, a short pasta or a spaghetti) with the ragu sauce. The ragu was the best I've ever had! It tasted like it had been simmering for hours. We arrived around 2pm and were seated right away, but as we were leaving there was quite a long line of folks waiting to be seated. Trust me - the food would be worth waiting in line for a table! My friend is not gluten free and she got the tortellini which she said was amazing! I would highly recommend if you're in the area!

Arista maiale (€10,00) a tad dry, but full of flavor

My neighbor recommended TLC, and luckily it was near the airBNB. They serve traditional Tuscan food, in an al fresco setting. For an antipasto, I ordered anchovies & olive oil w/ eggs, and for my primo I had the roasted pork. I forgot what mija & ITC ordered. To accompany the meal, we ordered a Tuscan chianti recommended by our waiter. First of all, the anchovies were amazing! They were large, silky smooth and paired well w/ the eggs atop crusty bread. This antipasto is very Tuscan. Secondarily, unfortunately the pork was dry. However, the flavor was really good from the seasoning and natural juices. Lastly, the wine was an excellent rec. The chianti paired well with the savory food. Regarding the ambiance, the are tables inside and outside. However, the inside is almost like eating al fresco bc of the open doorways. The service was very friendly & warm. We were lucky to get a table quickly w/o prenoting. Restaurants in the area were very busy on a Mon night. TLC was a very good rec fr my neighbor. They offer tasty Tuscan dishes in a casual setting, and the service is welcoming.

This restaurant was recommended by a local chef, and we were thrilled to find out was only a 3 minute walk from our apartment. Trattoria la Casalinga is a lovely restaurant and our server was helpful and charming. The menu is only in Italian, but he spoke perfect English and made suggestions to guide our choices. We srarted with a salad of thinly slices, raw baby artichokes and shaved parmesan. Add some fresh fresh pepper and it was so tasty. Two pasta dishes were great! Homemade pasta doesn't need much to complete it, and the asparagus sauce on my pasra was light and slightly creamy with bits of asparagus. The cheese ravioli was simply dressed with butter and fresh sage. Deloghtful! We finished with a ricotta cheese torte that was dusted in chocolate and a crispy crumb-type topping. Fantastic! So glad we chose this over panna cotta, which is available at most Italian restaurants back home. Then, sweet wine served with cantucci (biscottti) for dipping. What a great mreal!

During my summer in Italy, I lived in the Oltrano district, which is filled with excellent restaurants, lesser-known-to-tourists. My landlord said I should try Trattoria La Casalinga because it tasted like the meals his mom and grandma make. And he was being sincere. So, I went here and ordered 5 courses on my first night. I loved each course, starting with the zucchini salad dressed with EVOO, and concluding with the standout: Tuscan-styled fried chicken, which had the crispiest skin and juiciest meat I've ever had. Traditional Tuscan cuisine includes salumi and cheeses, pesto dishes, and wild boar ragu, so try these while you're in the area. I loved that it wasn't a pretentious place, and it was filled with regular locals, so I ate there at least once a week before I left Firenze. You'll need to go to their website, and send an email for a reservation, just because it is so popular and populated. They usually respond within an hour or so. Normally, you need 2-3 days in advance to get in. I never got to sit outdoors, but the restaurant is in Piazza Santo Spirito which is super vibrant at night. Loved the area.

One of the restaurants I wanted to try in Italy and it definitely did not disappoint! Since the menu was all in Italian, we just asked the waiter for the three most popular pastas. The three recommendations were a pesto, a spaghetti, and a ravioli. The pesto was a table's favorite! The pesto sauce was delicious and the chunks of meat made it a standout! The spaghetti was pretty good, very light. As for the ravioli, they're huge! I wish there was a sauce for the ravioli, but I understand they want to let the fresh pasta shine. The dishes came out so fast too! I remember going to the restroom and when I came back, the dishes were already at our table! You can definitely tell it's homemade pasta. PASTA IN ITALY IS NO JOKE, IT IS BETTER!

We've gone to a few Michelin star rated restaurants while in Florence and this was the best food we've had. Our server Andrea was a Gentleman and gave us excellent recommendations. Every time he came back to check on us, my plate was empty and you can tell he appreciated how much we appreciated the food. The restaurant itself was very nice and not a tourist trap. We will be back for more every time in Florence and recommend you try it. Pricing was excellent and I thought there was a mistake at first because the same meal in NYC would've been easily double.

Ribollita
Amanda S.

My friend and I loved this restaurant during our stay in Florence & found it to be pretty authentic (as far as we can tell). As with any good restaurant, there was a bit of a wait to be seated- which we didn't mind too much because they had a stand with peanuts out that we could snack on while we waited. Once we were seated we had a chance to look over the menu & make the tough choice of what to order. I went with the ribollita, which our waiter said was a traditional Tuscan soup. It was truly delicious with great flavor. It was a hearty soup and was definitely substantial enough to stand alone as a dinner entree. My friend loved her pasta with duck sauce that was on the appetizer menu as well! This trattoria appeared to be family-run; we had a great meal here and would definitely recommend!

Melon and Prosciutto
Archie P.

@justpadge_eats The chicken was a tad on the dry side but simple seasoning tasted good and the roasted potatoes had crack on them I tell you I couldn't get enough of them. The Cantaloupe and Prosciutto combo was interesting but certainly worked. The highlight of the meal was dessert Limoncello made into a sorbet, come on!

A bit of the dining area.

It's close enough to the lively, bustling part of Firenze to feel connected, yet just far enough to escape the city's never-ending wave of tourists. The service was incredible, and the owner (I'm pretty sure it was the owner?) brought so much energy that he single-handedly turned the whole place into an eclectic little spot during the "rush hour" of the evening. The menu was solid, if a bit "generic" at times. While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal. The pastas were really good as well, though one of the meat dishes had a slightly off texture, with the chunks of meat a bit overcooked. All in all, we loved our meal and would definitely recommend this spot if you're in Florence.

On top of the pain of securing a reservation (they only take these over the phone; no online system), the only slot I could secure even as a solo diner was as soon as they opened, at 6pm, and via a bar seat. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by several of the staff, all warm/kind. One of them offered me a table, even though I humbly mentioned I'd be fine with whatever was convenient to them. I looked around and saw what seemed to be majority American tourists so I had very standard expectations. Well, what commenced...my god. I'm getting chills now thinking about the entire experience. Just the absolute perfect dinner my first night in Florence. Everything on the menu looked fantastic and I was even tempted to order 2 Primi (pastas) but my server discouraged it, said they were quite large. Instead she guided towards the "must" appetizer, the "onion flan with pecorino cheese and truffle" followed by their signature pasta, "pappardelle with wild boar ragù" The appetizer literally brought me to tears as soon as I took a bite. I didn't think I liked truffle but this was life-changing. And the pasta was served piping hot and also to die for. I complemented the meal with a delicious glass of white and red and ended with the utterly divine tiramisu. I will be dreaming about this meal for years to come. So epic.

What a fun place to be! The food was absolutely amazing. When we saw them slicing the salami right in front of us, we decided to order the salami plate and we were so glad we did! The zucchini flower and saffron pasta was bursting with flavor and the pasta was so perfectly cooked. I couldn't get enough! The duck ragu pasta was also hearty, rich, and delicious. The sauce was so good, my family soaked up every last bit with our bread. The ricotta spinach ravioli was also amazing!! Again the sauce was such a standout. The ravioli was so fresh with the perfect amount of bite. The green pepper sauce steak was soooo good. Cooked perfectly, with such a unique sauce that the whole peppercorns added perfectly to in texture and spice. Finally, the raspberry tiramisu. We were so full, but when they set these down our dessert stomachs were ready. They were amazing! Not the strongest raspberry flavor, but still such a delicious end to the meal. Side note, you MUST have a reservation to eat here, and they only take reservations by call. Because I didn't have a way to call them, I asked my Airbnb hosts who did it for me (also amazing people). We had our hotel call for us when we checked in and were lucky to grab a 1:30 lunch slot on a Thursday afternoon. We saw the fat physical reservation book when we went, and also saw an attempted walk-in get turned away. We wanted to go for dinner, but I'm just glad we were able to get in at all. Vini e Vecchi Sapori was easily my favorite restaurant in Florence. I loved the cozy, vibrant dining room, snug and eclectically decorated. We were at a table so tiny, I worried about pulling a muscle when I crossed my legs. It was nestled amongst other tiny tables, and abutted a counter where plates were put out for service and the reservation book set down in its glory next to my husband's head. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive. Our waiter basically told what to order and we obeyed him, with excellent results. The one-page handwritten menu, helpfully available in English, presented the day's offerings and this preemptive list of disclaimers: No Pizza No Cappuccino No The Fork No Ice No Spritz No Ketchup FUCK CANCER There was a brief selection of Italian wines by the glass, and we got the Chianti Classico and the Bruno de Montalcino, both lovely. The food was delicious, starting with good bread and good olive oil. We ordered the mixed Tuscany salami and the beef carpaccio as appetizers, and they were both superb and not in the least bit redundant. There were four or five types of salami, every one of them fantastic, and I loved the thin, silky carpaccio, served with rucola, parmesan, olive oil, and black pepper. We shared two splendid pastas, spinach ricotta ravioli in a creamy rose tomato sauce and a hearty pappardelle with duck ragu. For dessert, we had the lush, irresistible raspberries tiramisu. I plan to come back to Florence one day, and will make a point of coming back to Vini e Vecchi Sapori. It's a special restaurant, the kind you hope to find in Italy, a welcoming place with lively ambiance and wonderful food.

The whole place felt like a low-end lunch diner -- not a charming Florentine restaurant. They were blasting Highway to the Danger Zone and I Wanna Dance with Somebody while the main restaurant -- the one I thought I had booked -- played soft Italian music that actually fit the fine dining experience. The contrast was insulting. I was dressed in an upscale outfit appropriate for a refined dinner, yet I was treated as though I didn't belong. It felt discriminatory and dismissive. The vibe itself is cool (automatic door walking in, dungeon-like walls with cute decorations). Walking to your table you walk by a huge wine selection, which can be overwhelming. We grabbed the spaghetti with the cream of asparagus-normally wouldn't order so much asparagus but this was the pasta that sounded the most interesting to us and we did ultimately end up enjoying the sauce quite a bit and it was one of the better pasta dishes we had in Italy. Got a side of the white beans which we probably didn't need but didn't mind. The steak: first of all it's very sizable. The Florentine way is rarer than I would ever order a steak and while I'm glad I tried it, I probably wouldn't choose it again. It's an interesting ordering process as you're essentially given the sizes they have left there for the night so you never know walking exactly how much you'll pay. I do appreciate that they cut it for you but I did feel like some of the meat was still on the bone (not that we really needed MORE meat I just didn't want to waste any). The flavoring is pretty good but there are definitely bites that are better than the others. The service was a bit mixed. There were times they were interested in talking with us while others they didn't seem so interested and a bit aloof. This was especially true when we went to check out. Looking for a place to eat, found this gem and realized I wanted to try it. Everyone had told us…read moredinner reservations were a MUST here, but didn't think about it. Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

What a maze of a restaurant, super interesting decor and set up. Such a cute restaurant with so…read moremany "rooms". Definitely can tell the old building and maybe they had expanded over the years. The service was amazing and the food delicious. This is one of the places that friends recommended and it's also on the list of many influencers. Tourist trappy, maybe. But the food was totally worth it. We were in the area around 4:30PM and decided to stop in, totally not expecting much as we didn't make a reservation but figured if they're open and not busy, why not give them a try. The most memorable dish we had was the appetizer we order - fried polenta with mushrooms and chicken liver pate, the polenta fried crispy, the mushrooms creamy and the chicken liver pate so smooth and savory. We also ordered 2 pasta dishes - wild boar sauce pappardelle and spaghetti alla carbonara. So tasty and with depth of flavors. Paired well with the house white wine we ordered as well. Definitely a spot you don't want to miss when in Florence.
