This place is near the Piazza della Signoria, but not right in the plaza so it's not a tourist trap. The food here and the ambiance was very good. Nice selection of Italian dishes. However, if you go, be careful of the charges and check your bill. In Italy, they won't give a bill to each party at the table but everything is together. Our waitress told us that our bill (for 5 people) was 85 euros per person which was not the case. She divided the bill by 3 (2 couples and myself) when it should have been divided by 5 and each couple would pay twice that. It came out to around 51 euros per person. Anyway it was a big mixup. She also indicated that it didn't include a tip. Well, in Italy and most of Europe, there is no tipping. There is a cover charge for each person and that takes care of gratuities. I'm surprised that she even mentioned it but she knew we were American and knew our tipping culture. We ended up paying more than we should have. My recommendation is to review your check carefully and do your own math and make sure you are charged properly. This put a damper on what would have been a very enjoyable evening. FYI- In Italy, the locals don't tip, which is the way it should be in the U.S. Adding an extra 20-30% on top of an already expensive bill is ludicrous and if patrons resisted these high tip requests, owners would have to pay their workers more and everything would be more transparent. I digress but that's my 2 cents (or 2 centesimi in euro talk). read more

If you are ever in Florence Italy you have to get steak Florintine! It's a must! The presentation and seasoning are very simple but it does not need any steak sauce, bbq sauce nor pepper and salt. When made right it is a nice char on a huge porterhouse steal and the middle is a perfect medium rare. Some places do not make Steak Florintine in all restaurants, we found that out the hard way. This place not only makes the best steak Florintine, the bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is good, the pasta with Ragu was perfectly al dente and hearty for the portion and service was absolutely spectacular! I didn't drink our whole vacation but my sister had a delicious prosecco and they recommended a nice red to go with the steak that we shared by the way. One of my most memorable meals in Italy was here at Buca Poldo. Porcini Ravioli, seafood risotto, octopus carpaccio, octopus potato salad, everything was delicious. For me, the best dishes were the octopus potato salad and porcini ravioli. I typically do not eat pasta al dente when cooked at home- but found their pasta texture quite enjoyable. The real surprise is their octopus potato dish, doesn't look like much but man is it tasty. We had a party of 15 and the food came out at a very good pace. We were never waiting too long for the next plate despite our large party. Although their primary seating is basement level they have a nice outdoor seating are which we opted for. Tiramisu is super delicate and light here. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Menus are in English and most of the wait staff spoke it very well. Service was fantastic, wine glasses were always filled and they had very good recommendations to pair with the dishes ordered. If you are in Florence and looking for some Tuscan dishes, I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Had an absolutely wonderful dinner for four! We started with the very generous cheese board with honey, jam, and truffle which was very good. Then shared two ravioli dishes- one with a delicious cream sauce with asparagus and radicchio and the mushroom ones with truffle cream sauce. Buca Poldo is the best restaurant in Florence after my 3 nights here. The food is a 10/10 and actually very inexpensive. I had the T bone steak with roasted potatoes and it was one of the best steaks ever. My girlfriend had the ravioli and it was one of the best I've had as well. For desert I had the best tiramisu out of my whole Italy trip. The staff was nothing but amazing. Dejan was such a nice waiter especially to accommodate 10 people. Just finished the nearly perfect Italian meal! This would have been a five star review but for one fault, which we will save for the end. We started by sharing the pear and pecorino salad with honey and walnuts. For anyone accustomed to shavings of cheese on their salad, be assured that this is shareable by virtue of the hunks of cheese and generous amount of pear. Add a little of the supplied vinegar and oil to balance the honey. We followed with a shared primi piatti of spaghetti with lemon cream sauce and dill, which was perfectly al dente and perfectly balanced - the cream accented with the lemon, and the lemon softened by the dill. For secondi we both ordered the shrimp in a tomato cognac sauce, which was unbelievably delicious. The shrimp are served whole, in the shell, as is customary here, under a robust, dense but ever-so-slightly sweet sauce. The shrimp are not pre-sliced in any, so part of the enjoyment is getting a little messy as you free your meal from its natural container. We finished with a very respectable panna cotta and a seasonal chestnut budino. The drag on the rating is the dining room, which is downstairs and windowless. This would not be a problem but for the slight mustiness that was a little difficult to overlook (oversmell?). Nonetheless, service was warm, the meal was paced well, the food was just about perfect, and we are anxious to return to what seems to be a truly local joint in a city that can be overrun by turista enterprises. read more

The servers were so kind especially to my two kids aged 7 and 10. My daughter left her postcards at the dining table and we didn't realize until we got back to our apartment.
