PENNE ALLA BETOLLA STAND UP! This place was absolutely the most authentic restaurant I have been to in Firenze. I think I was the only one who didn't speak Italian in the place lol. I was brought here by fellow American who has been living in Florence for the past 4 years, so I knew it was going to be phenomenal. This was head and shoulders the best Penne Alla Vodka (Penne All Bettola) I have ever had in my life, and I've some great PAV in my day. Coining that acronym haha. I don't even have words to describe how good that PAV was. It was delightful. We also got the Rosbiffe di categoria, which was a thin slice of beef cooked rare. It too, was delightful. But not life changing like the PAV. I didn't get a picture of the meat as I was pretty deep into the 1.5L bottle of house red that they provided so that's on me y'all. It is communal dining so we were sitting at a table with 3 strangers, but as I've said in prior reviews I find this kind of fun. You have the option to engage or not with some randoms. You should talk to strangers though you can learn a lot. It was filled to the brim in there, so make a res if you can. We walked in at 9:15 ish and had about a 20 minute wait.

"We saw this place on one of Giada De Laurentiis' shows and took her recommendation. It was worthwhile for sure as the experience (paired with good company) made it memorable. It's small-medium inside, but packed with happy customers, and I'm intentionally using the key word 'packed'. The food was good (i had the pappardelle with ragu & fungi/mushrooms. We also got the pears & cheese appetizer, but I wouldn't recommend ... it was an overly simple peeled pear with two basic cheeses. We got the house wine, which was fine, but next time I'd try one of their other options. We later dove into 3 desserts which were terrific. Service was friendly & efficient. In summary, 4 stars is earned for the atmosphere & experience, and excellent desserts.

Always packed! Waited 20 minutes for a table late night.

Picture it. You've been walking ALL day. I mean ALL DAY. Your iPhone says you've walked nearly 10 miles. So, of course, you're famished. It was packed when we arrived. It was after 9:00, & we were told the wait would be at least 20 minutes. Given the later hour, & the crowd, that actually sounded reasonable. The overall vibe is BUSY. This is family style & casual. Perfect for a low-key night. A trusted foodie friend back home recommended this spot, & glowingly so. Perhaps this set my expectations too high. Or, maybe it's because I really just don't care for tripe. But, in my defense, even the pasta w vodka sauce was surprisingly mediocre. Our server was helpful; equal parts amused & unaffected by our tourist status. But the experience was more fun & lively than it was great food. They definitely get bonus points for location; this is not a touristy area. But, alas, this is not the stuff of which my pasta dreams are made of. Sigh 3 stars

Amazing! The pasta was to die for. Super rich in flavor cooked perfectly. The serving sizes are great and prices are very reasonable. I believe we got a vodka pasta and it was truly my favorite.

This place was recommended to us by our waitress from the night before! It was absolutely amazing and such a great experience! We got the penne vodka and the filet and veal. Highly recommend!!!

-Thank goodness we decided to step out of our comfort zone and ask a local for his recommendations on where to eat. We found a gem! Every single thing we got was divine. -The Florentine Steak is definitely something to rave about. Every bite was full of juicy flavor and the meat was premium quality. I devoured a 750g steak all by myself. -The fried zucchini flowers that came with it was crunchy and delicious. -My friend got a pasta dish and I helped her eat that too! I think I had a legitimate food baby after my visit to this restaurant but I wouldn't think twice about going again! I want to try everything there!

    Pasta! Very tasty.

It's close enough to the lively, bustling part of Firenze to feel connected, yet just far enough to escape the city's never-ending wave of tourists. The service was incredible, and the owner (I'm pretty sure it was the owner?) brought so much energy that he single-handedly turned the whole place into an eclectic little spot during the "rush hour" of the evening. The menu was solid, if a bit "generic" at times. While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal. The pastas were really good as well, though one of the meat dishes had a slightly off texture, with the chunks of meat a bit overcooked. All in all, we loved our meal and would definitely recommend this spot if you're in Florence.

On top of the pain of securing a reservation (they only take these over the phone; no online system), the only slot I could secure even as a solo diner was as soon as they opened, at 6pm, and via a bar seat. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by several of the staff, all warm/kind. One of them offered me a table, even though I humbly mentioned I'd be fine with whatever was convenient to them. I looked around and saw what seemed to be majority American tourists so I had very standard expectations. Well, what commenced...my god. I'm getting chills now thinking about the entire experience. Just the absolute perfect dinner my first night in Florence. Everything on the menu looked fantastic and I was even tempted to order 2 Primi (pastas) but my server discouraged it, said they were quite large. Instead she guided towards the "must" appetizer, the "onion flan with pecorino cheese and truffle" followed by their signature pasta, "pappardelle with wild boar ragù" The appetizer literally brought me to tears as soon as I took a bite. I didn't think I liked truffle but this was life-changing. And the pasta was served piping hot and also to die for. I complemented the meal with a delicious glass of white and red and ended with the utterly divine tiramisu. I will be dreaming about this meal for years to come. So epic.

What a fun place to be! The food was absolutely amazing. When we saw them slicing the salami right in front of us, we decided to order the salami plate and we were so glad we did! The zucchini flower and saffron pasta was bursting with flavor and the pasta was so perfectly cooked. I couldn't get enough! The duck ragu pasta was also hearty, rich, and delicious. The sauce was so good, my family soaked up every last bit with our bread. The ricotta spinach ravioli was also amazing!! Again the sauce was such a standout. The ravioli was so fresh with the perfect amount of bite. The green pepper sauce steak was soooo good. Cooked perfectly, with such a unique sauce that the whole peppercorns added perfectly to in texture and spice. Finally, the raspberry tiramisu. We were so full, but when they set these down our dessert stomachs were ready. They were amazing! Not the strongest raspberry flavor, but still such a delicious end to the meal. Side note, you MUST have a reservation to eat here, and they only take reservations by call. Because I didn't have a way to call them, I asked my Airbnb hosts who did it for me (also amazing people). While we were eating, there was a crowd forming outside of people waiting to get in but unable to. It's so worth it to visit Vini e Vecchi Sappori! I'll definitely have to come back next time I'm in Florence.

We had our hotel call for us when we checked in and were lucky to grab a 1:30 lunch slot on a Thursday afternoon. We saw the fat physical reservation book when we went, and also saw an attempted walk-in get turned away. We wanted to go for dinner, but I'm just glad we were able to get in at all. Vini e Vecchi Sapori was easily my favorite restaurant in Florence. I loved the cozy, vibrant dining room, snug and eclectically decorated. We were at a table so tiny, I worried about pulling a muscle when I crossed my legs. It was nestled amongst other tiny tables, and abutted a counter where plates were put out for service and the reservation book set down in its glory next to my husband's head. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive. Our waiter basically told what to order and we obeyed him, with excellent results. The one-page handwritten menu, helpfully available in English, presented the day's offerings and this preemptive list of disclaimers: No Pizza No Cappuccino No The Fork No Ice No Spritz No Ketchup FUCK CANCER There was a brief selection of Italian wines by the glass, and we got the Chianti Classico and the Bruno de Montalcino, both lovely. The food was delicious, starting with good bread and good olive oil. We ordered the mixed Tuscany salami and the beef carpaccio as appetizers, and they were both superb and not in the least bit redundant. There were four or five types of salami, every one of them fantastic, and I loved the thin, silky carpaccio, served with rucola, parmesan, olive oil, and black pepper. We shared two splendid pastas, spinach ricotta ravioli in a creamy rose tomato sauce and a hearty pappardelle with duck ragu. For dessert, we had the lush, irresistible raspberries tiramisu. I plan to come back to Florence one day, and will make a point of coming back to Vini e Vecchi Sapori. It's a special restaurant, the kind you hope to find in Italy, a welcoming place with lively ambiance and wonderful food.

The whole place felt like a low-end lunch diner -- not a charming Florentine restaurant. They were blasting Highway to the Danger Zone and I Wanna Dance with Somebody while the main restaurant -- the one I thought I had booked -- played soft Italian music that actually fit the fine dining experience. The contrast was insulting. I was dressed in an upscale outfit appropriate for a refined dinner, yet I was treated as though I didn't belong. It felt discriminatory and dismissive. To make matters worse, at the end they tried to pressure me into tipping on the card machine -- in Italy, where tipping isn't even customary. The vibe itself is cool (automatic door walking in, dungeon-like walls with cute decorations). Walking to your table you walk by a huge wine selection, which can be overwhelming. We started with the asparagus and peas salad. This was pretty solid, simple but it worked. We grabbed the spaghetti with the cream of asparagus-normally wouldn't order so much asparagus but this was the pasta that sounded the most interesting to us and we did ultimately end up enjoying the sauce quite a bit and it was one of the better pasta dishes we had in Italy. Got a side of the white beans which we probably didn't need but didn't mind. The steak: first of all it's very sizable. The Florentine way is rarer than I would ever order a steak and while I'm glad I tried it, I probably wouldn't choose it again. It's an interesting ordering process as you're essentially given the sizes they have left there for the night so you never know walking exactly how much you'll pay. I do appreciate that they cut it for you but I did feel like some of the meat was still on the bone (not that we really needed MORE meat I just didn't want to waste any). The flavoring is pretty good but there are definitely bites that are better than the others. The service was a bit mixed. There were times they were interested in talking with us while others they didn't seem so interested and a bit aloof. This was especially true when we went to check out. Ultimately, served its purpose in introducing us to a style of steak we hadn't had before and did so in a way that we enjoyed.

Love that the menu states "If you prefer your meat more so well done we would be happy to recommend another dish to you." Ha. Make sure you order a BOTTLE of wine! They have GREAT local options at super reasonable price points.

Looking for a place to eat, found this gem and realized I wanted to try it. Everyone had told us…read moredinner reservations were a MUST here, but didn't think about it. Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

What a maze of a restaurant, super interesting decor and set up. Such a cute restaurant with so…read moremany "rooms". Definitely can tell the old building and maybe they had expanded over the years. The service was amazing and the food delicious. This is one of the places that friends recommended and it's also on the list of many influencers. Tourist trappy, maybe. But the food was totally worth it. We were in the area around 4:30PM and decided to stop in, totally not expecting much as we didn't make a reservation but figured if they're open and not busy, why not give them a try. The most memorable dish we had was the appetizer we order - fried polenta with mushrooms and chicken liver pate, the polenta fried crispy, the mushrooms creamy and the chicken liver pate so smooth and savory. We also ordered 2 pasta dishes - wild boar sauce pappardelle and spaghetti alla carbonara. So tasty and with depth of flavors. Paired well with the house white wine we ordered as well. Definitely a spot you don't want to miss when in Florence.

Big tip...if you do the same line up to the right side of the door to this restaurant. To the left is reservations only. Once they opened, we were first in line we were thrilled to get a table outdoors. Wait staff were very nice. We shared a large beer, enjoyed the complimentary croutons and bread. Our order was a delicious caprese. Ooooh the mozzarella so creamy, tomatoes delicious. Our mains were the creamy tortellini and the chicken with roasted potatoes. Total yum in each bite. Happy we ended our week in the lovely city of Florence at this establishment. Highly recommend.

The ambiance of this place is nice. It feels homey. Service was ok, not overly friendly, but not bad. This place gets packed because I think a lot of people recommend this place. The food is just meh. For all of the GOOD FOOD we had in Italy, this was probably one of the worst ones. (Probably only a couple of not great experiences, I would say) My "duck sauce" was DRY and the meat was stringy and old tasting. My hubs chicken was ok, but it was like he was eating a Costco rotisserie chicken. Which, I mean is good, but we paid was more than 5 bucks for it. And we got a side of spinach that was just cooked to oblivion... It was like I was eating baby food. NO THANKS.
