I booked this restaurant through Google and arrived early for my 7:30 reservation, expecting the cozy, atmospheric trattoria shown in the photos -- the one I had reserved. Instead, without even asking for my name or checking my reservation, a young host walked me out the door and across the street into a completely different dining area. The room I was placed in looked nothing like what was advertised: it was brightly lit, with paper napkins, cheap silverware, and visibly dirty walls. The whole place felt like a low-end lunch diner -- not a charming Florentine restaurant. They were blasting Highway to the Danger Zone and I Wanna Dance with Somebody while the main restaurant -- the one I thought I had booked -- played soft Italian music that actually fit the fine dining experience. The contrast was insulting. I was dressed in an upscale outfit appropriate for a refined dinner, yet I was treated as though I didn't belong. It felt discriminatory and dismissive. To make matters worse, at the end they tried to pressure me into tipping on the card machine -- in Italy, where tipping isn't even customary. The entire experience felt like a bait-and-switch, and I left feeling disrespected, singled out, and completely disappointed. read more

The amount of time from order till service was very reasonable. The food was excellent. They didn't rush us, and our dessert was just as good as the filet and grilled vegetables. This was my first stop when visiting Florence for the first time and it did not disappoint. We got a sampler platter as an appetizer to feed 6 people and it was gone within minutes. The pâté is mind blowing and recommend to anyone who has not had it before. The pastas were great and you can really tell that those noodles are home made and perfectly Al dente. Now for the Florentine steak. It was our second course and even though on the menu it says it feeds 2 people it fed a whole group of 6 and there were still leftovers. This portion is HUGE and delicious. It was priced at $100, but split between 6 it really was worth it. The service was great despite several tables being served. Hearing that steaks were all the rage in Florence, I knew that I had to try it somewhere and decided here after seeing many positive reviews. They definitely did not disappoint! We got the Florence Steak cooked medium and although it came out a little rare, it was still very delicious. We got two steaks for a family of 5 and it was more than enough. One of them was leaner than the other, with the fattier steak being a bit more enjoyable personally. This was easily one of the best steaks that I have ever had and I can only recommend others to give it a try! The service was very friendly and welcoming, recommending us other dishes to try to pair along with the steak. The ambiance was also beautiful, being seated at an outdoor patio with lots of foliage. "When should we have know better - the bright lights or 'Born in the USA'?" ^Thats the question we asked ourselves as we left after an hour and a half of terrible service and pandering, mediocre food. Would give this less than a 1 if I could. We fell hook, line, and sinker for a tourist trap that has to be manipulating its rating. We've had plenty of 3+ hour dinners on our Italy trip - some incredible some mediocre. None terrible, except this one. One appetizer and one pasta - over an hour and a half. A second couple near us had a spine and left while they were still waiting for their food. We were unable to do the same. Can't stress enough - I don't understand how this place has a rating of 2+ stars, let alone 4.4. The Al'Antico Vinaio at the train station is 20x the place this is. Restaurants at the Italy pavilion in Epcot are better than this. It's someplace that legitimately gives all restaurants in Florence or other Italian tourist cities a bad name. What a charming and welcoming restaurant we chose last night for our dinner. We had made a reservation for an early dinner and were warmly greeted by Jo and seated. We decided to share an appetizer and a first course and each have our own entrée. We started with the Dolce Burrata (Burrata crostone, pears, walnuts and honey) and then the Pici alla Senese (Pici with PGI Guanciale, fresh tomato and burrata). Both were yummy. You will also encounter so many little art shops and lovely spaces. The restaurant is so unassuming. we asked to be seated in the garden which is three levels of little nooks where people are eating. We sat down to the chefs menu and the regular, but I would recommend you ask the server for their suggestions. The pasta was magnificent and the cod was incredible. Caprese salad!!!!! Named this like for being adjacent to the Boboli Gardens. This restaurant is on the opposite side of the river from Florence's main attractions. This neighborhood and Piazza Spirito I feel are the perfect place to enjoy Florence the way it was intended to be. The menus are handwritten and both the new owner (the original one passed away recently)and his wife spoke excellent English and were extremely accommodating. We came here 3 of 4 days in Rome. Once for a snack, once for lunch, and once for dinner. Each time was great. There was a large wine selection and some really relaxing reggae music playing in the background. The wifi was strong, the restaurant was cool despite no A/C, food plentiful. I didn't know there was a garden here until the last night--- you are taken through the kitchen area up stairs to a garden patio area which definitely has a romantic feel. Everyone inside or out seemed to enjoy the quiet atmosphere, the great service, and the great food. Things we had to eat: Prosciutto with melon - LARGE portion. Melon was perfectly ripe and prosciutto soft and salty. Buffalo Mozz and tomatoes- LARGE portion and the mozz was just as good as I had in Naples Orange Lemon Ravioli - just enough to fill you up.
