came here for the fixed menu and it was a great deal! i got the cacio e pepe and potato's and they were very very good and filling. the 1/4 liter of wine it came with was a very good deal as well and the wine was super good as italian wine always is. i think we came here at like 10pm because we came just from the train station, which is nice that it was open late. the service was fast and the staff was very nice. it was actually a bit busy as well which usually is a good sign. i'll definitely visit again when in florence! read more

I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best meal my family has had in Europe. My sister literally said "I think we all died and went to heaven." It's an incredible value as well, seeing as you get to order 2 main dishes, a side dish, and can add a 1/4 of a bottle of wine into that for only 1 Euro more. Between us 6, we ordered the fettuccini in boar sauce (that was the recommendation by the waitress and our overall favorite!), lasagna, beef stew, chicken, rabbit, gnocchi, and white fish. Stopped by yesterday for lunch due to the high online ratings and close proximity to our hotel. Lunch offerings were either 1 main dish, 1 side, 1 drink for €9,00 or 2 main dishes, 1 side, 1 drink for €12,00. Food was good and price was excellent. For our family of 4, we paid €48,00. Was looking for a place to eat at night. This place was one of the only ones that was still open so decided to stop by. They offered an amazing set meal where it was 11 euros and comes with a main dish and a side. For 12 euros it comes with wine. I was pretty blown away that for 24 euros I could have 2 main dishes, 2 sides, 2 waters and 500ml of wine. This was different than what the menu offered (we didn't want 2 main dishes since that's a lot of food) Service was very quick (almost a bit too quick imo) but it was good for what it was. I got the wild boar pasta and wife got seafood (probably wouldn't recommend the seafood since it's not fresh in Florence). If you are looking for a decent meal without spending too much this place is perfect. Also got the Tiramisu and it was a bit watery but the flavor was pretty good. Their chicken was great, better than expected and their roasted tomatoes are the best side dish I tried. Decent house wine and flavorful pasta with mushrooms. At some other point I also had their steak " bistecca alla fiorentina" and although it was good it was not great. We ordered it medium and most of it was very rare. It has a bone, which i was accounting for, but still 1cm from the edge everything was pretty bloody. Looking for an open place for lunch at an odd hour (4:00 pm local time) yielded this as the highest ranking nearest open establishment. Right in the touristy part of the town - we kept our expectations low. We were pleasantly surprised. The place is small but artfully decorated. They have the unique fixed price menu - two main, one side, and a drink. You can pick app + entree or entree + entree. Plenty of food. Lunch menu is cheaper (for the same items). We arrived mid-day but on the dinner-menu side of the hour. Try their roasted tomato and potato as the sides. Penne pasta with hot sauce was pretty good. Bruschetta topping were fresh and zingy. Gnocchi was soft and creamy. All in all, better than some of the best in US Italian restaurants. What's more remarkable is that a single person managed all the tables. Wonderful local experience in Florence. I can't say enough about this hidden gem. It's a local trattoria on the west side of Florence. Not at all touristy. The food was excellent and bountiful. The wait staff was very kind and helpful. They helped us choose local dishes including the tripe and the fettuccini with wild boar sauce. Price was much less than we would have paid at home. The food isn't cooked to order, because it came out way too quickly, but the cooking felt very home-styled. I ordered gnocchi with a seafood-type sauce, rabbit with tomato sauce, and roasted potatoes. All delicious. My wife had the ribollita, turkey with mushrooms (not very good), and spinach. It's a small, quaint, family-run restaurant, and if you don't speak any Italian, the son and / or daughter speaks enough to explain the menu and take your order. This will be the cheapest restaurant meal you have in Florence. For 14.5€, you get two courses, a side dish, and wine. I dare you to find a better deal in this city. The actual food was a mixed bag. The bread we got when we sat down was stale, which was a bad first impression. One of my two courses, the gnocchi with walnut and gorgonzola sauce, was one of the best things I ate in Italy. I wanted to weep while eating it. My husband, who hates gorgonzola, couldn't stop eating it. The flavors were so bold yet balanced, and the gnocchi just melted in our mouths. On the other hand, his fettucine with pesto was just okay (well-cooked pasta, but slightly bland pesto), and we didn't love our entrees. I got the roasted rabbit, and he got the roasted pork shank. The meat was tender, but both were just a bit too salty for us. Not inedible, but just more salt than two salt-loving people were expecting. Our side dishes were pretty good--juicy roasted tomatoes and your standard roasted potatoes. And finally, the bread at the beginning of the meal was stale and flavorless. I don't know why they would choose to serve stale bread to start off your meal. It just gives off a terrible first impression. Looking back on it, it would have been a three star meal if not for the incredible gnocchi. Went straight here after a 1.5 hour tour and major walking session at the Galleria degli Uffizi @ 6:30pm on a Thursday and walked right in. 10 minutes later as we we getting our 1st course, we noticed a line forming outside and the crowd was getting restless! Waiter comes by and recites the menu, kinda felt like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, we didn't want to mess up, so under some pressure without asking questions, we pick: 1st course: Gnocchi in cream sauce & truffles, Wild Boar Ragu on a wide ribbon pasta (papardelle?), and Asparagus & mushroom white sauce on a twisted gemelli pasta. All three fantastic, but the truffle gnocchi was buckle your knees good. 2nd course: Fried Beef (breaded cutlet, Milanessa style), grilled Swordfish fillet (the kid loves fish), and the Braised Rabbit in tomatoes. Rabbit was killer, fish and beef were just fine, if had to do again, would go with the grilled Beef/Pork/Chicken, Roast chicken, or maybe the Boiled Beef (roll the dice). Side dish: Roasted potatoes, fries, and salad... saw some great veggies coming to other tables, spinach, roasted tomatoes, green beans, etc. if not under pressure, might've grabbed those instead. This place is really popular and looks like the real deal. Amazing deal to find in what is often an overpriced city when it comes to food. The atmosphere is casual and they have waiters/waitresses that speak English and offer an English menu to use. Forgetting about the price, the food alone warrants a strong review. We ordered the spinach and cheese ravioli, Tuscan soup, pork sausage and artichoke pasta and roast chicken with artichokes. All the dishes were outstanding, the best we've had in our trips in Venice and now Florence. Another plus is that they are open all day. Many restaurants close from 3-7ish which can make life tough if you're traveling and get stuck between meals. The nearby Trattoria da Giorgo, closed on Sunday, was not an option after our return to the train station from a day trip in Siena, so we decided to try Il Contadino. They have decent food and lots of it with cheap prices compared to the rest of the overpriced tourist traps in Florence. Unlike many restaurants in Italy, they are open seven days a week from noon (12:00) until 10:30pm (22:30), so you can get a meal anytime you like. Arriving around 7:00pm on a Sunday night after a long day in the Tuscan sun, we were quickly seated and shortly thereafter our waiter arrived. That was the most efficient service we received the rest of the night because as he and his female counterpart hovered around our table in the nearly empty restaurant, making for a rather uncomfortable experience, they chatted with each other and their friends at the next table. However, when we needed something, we had to try to catch their eye rather than counting on them to notice when they were needed instead of socializing with each other. The menu is fixed price, €9 to €12 for lunch, and €13.50 to €14.50 for dinner, a decent value for what you receive in return and there is also an "ala carte" menu if you so choose. For €14.50 (€12 at lunch) you are entitled to a 1/2 liter of water, ¼ liter of wine (per person/ red or white), primo (first course from the day's menu - pasta, soup, etc), secondo (second course from the day's menu - meat dish), and contorno (vegetable - salad, potatoes, artichokes, broccoli, etc). Tagiatelle alla Boscailola, a long, thin pasta in a tomato-based sauce with ground beef, mushrooms, and black olives was my choice as a primo. The tagliatelle were good with rich, earthy tones from the mushrooms and unlike more than a few Tuscan restaurants we have been to recently, cooked "al dente". My wife decided to forgo the meat dish, so she ordered the prosciutto e melone (cured ham and and honeydew melon) for her first course. Being difficult to improve on sliced ham and melon, her course was as good a most places and a fair size portion. For secondi I had the scaloppine ai funghi (pork cutlets in a white wine and mushroom sauce). The meat was very dry and had obviously been sitting around much of the day waiting for a customer to arrive. The sauce was good and there was plenty of it, but a few more mushrooms would have been nice. My wife had the risotto with zucchini and gorgonzola, creamy with a bit of zing from the aged cheese, it could have cooked a minute or two longer to reach the desired consistency of a classic risotto. Our contorni were patate fritte (French fries), crispy but not very hot, and patate arrosto (roasted potatoes) which, like the pork, had also been sitting in a chafing dish for far too long. We had to remind the waiter two times to bring our wine, a local red, which was decent, lightly chilled and fruity. Instead of bringing a half-liter for the two of us, he brought a single one-quarter liter carafe 5-10 minutes after our primi had arrived and another, having to ask him again, after our second courses had arrived. With so few people in the restaurant, there is really no excuse for such inattentive service. The restaurant is clean and bright even though it is in a rather seedy part of town, but we were somewhat disappointed by the food and very disappointed by the service. When I gave the waiter my card, telling him that I would post a review on my blog, TripAdvisor, and Yelp, he said "So what? I can post a review on TripAdvisor, so what makes you different from me?" I responded, telling him that "I am Yelp 'Elite', a TripAdvisor 'Top Contributor', and have a blog averaging 40,000 views a year, that is what makes me different from you". You will have a better meal in Italy for €30 or less, several places come to mind, but in Florence, with its dearth of reasonably priced restaurants, you will not find many options. Although our experience was somewhat disappointing, the food was not bad overall and the prices fair. I came for the florentine steak and left filled to the brim with all sorts of good eats! The basic for one is steak, potato or salad, bread, wine and water. Also tried pizza, I felt it was pre-made. But it was for my child that won't eat a thing hot so it was great I guess. The steak was great with the oven toasted potatoes. They brought out a set of sauces I was told they were for the steak I tried them all but preferred to eat it as is. Like a purest, If a steak is seasoned right it shouldn't need sauce. The sauces were not much that I'm used to but I can try to describe them one is onion taste much like a French onion soup base, next is a green onion one it's white, creamy but not much flavor in comparison to anything, last is what I was told barbecue sauce while it tasted okay like I said nothing I'm used to, so I enjoyed my steak with some bread and wine the potatoes. The pesto sauce on my gnocchi was Delish but the gnocchi itself was a bit too soft. I may have been too spoiled from the perfect gnocchi I got in Napoli yesterday. My prawn spaghetti was good. Maybe a bit too strong on the prawn flavor but still enjoyable. For some reason I felt the pasta wasn't as good as all the spaghetti I've tried in other places in italy but still good.
