We stayed at a hotel right down the street and while walking around this afternoon I saw this place. My wife and I don't eat any meat or dairy, so it's not easy finding options. I thought it might be a good place to go. The waiter was super accommodating. I ended up getting the plain gnocchi, with the cannolini bean side dish on top. Wow! I know it's not a dish on the menu? But it should be! The gnocchi are super light and pillowy. The beans were unbelievably tasty and together they made an awesome new dish. My wife did the same with the with the gnocchi and grilled vegetables. My sun had muscles and my daughter had a mushroom and pasta dish. Great staff and awesome food! read more

I'm not sure how we ended up at this restaurant, but it was a nice choice. We were skeptical as it was right smack in the touristy area. The wait staff was attentive and helped us choose several dishes. The place was a reasonable size with hand sketch Italian landscapes on the walls. This was beautiful. The food was really tasty. They are known for their meat options. The goal was to try something that we hadn't so far. The standout dish was the Ribollita. Our waiter stated that either people loved it or hate it....well we loved it! The house wine was actually pretty good. Nice evening meal. Ok I have no idea who says that this place is "amazing" and that they have "great food." Because it is a total lie! But then the hint should have been that those who gave glowing reviews are those who have only reviewed one or two places. That's a hint that they aren't real reviewers. But back to the restaurant. The service was decent. Our server was nice and helpful and attentive during our meal. They had a wide selection of Italian dishes to choose from. Our appetizer of mozzarella and thin sliced ham was decent. But the main dishes were disappointing. We opted for the Florentine steak and lasagna. Both dishes lacked any flavor! The steak was undercooked (we wanted medium it came out medium rare) and was not tender or tasty. The lasagna was bland lacking any taste. Not a good way to end our trip to Florence. The waiters out front were convivial enough so I looked up their Yelp reviews. Not a lot here, but good enough to take the chance. I ordered the Chianina Tenderloin with Gorgonzola cheese brandy and walnut sauce and a side of potatoes. The first steak the brought me was hard to cut into so I brought that to my waiter's attention and he immediately took it back and ordered a new one for me, and it was PERFECTION! We made a reservation ahead of time and came here mostly to try the t bone steak. I should've only ordered the steak and some sides but I think we were too hungry and ordered a full meal, which I would not recommend. We started with the caprese salad and Tuscan tomato soup. The salad was fresh and good. The tomato soup was personally not up my alley. It was a little too chunky and not soupy enough for me. Flavor was very light and slightly bland. The soup was better when I paired it with bread seasoned with oil and vinegar. Next we had the ragu and mushroom pasta. Both were not bad and the pasta itself was yummy, neither were mind blowing. Mushroom pasta was buttery but the mushroom were a little too rubbery and slimey for my taste. The minimum weight for the Florentine steak here is 1.2kg. It was a little over cooked in our opinion but still tender with good flavor. We seasoned it with a little pepper, olive oil and salt. I've traveled to Florence many times, and must say that the city has some of the best food I've ever tried. I also have to say that Trattoria Ponte Vecchio is far superior to many of the restaurants I've visited while here. I'm currently in Florence for about five weeks taking an Italian course and in that time I must have visited Salvatore and his lovely staff at least 5 times. My favorite dishes are the fiochi and the lasagna. Also, I consider myself to be a tiramisu connoisseur, and they've got the best one I've had so far. If you're in Florence, do NOT miss this culinary experience. Not only will you leave with a happy belly, but you'll be made to feel like part of the family. read more

I ordered the Peposo alla chiantigiana (beef stew chianti style) and it was truly one of the best dishes I've ever had in Italy. So many places around Florence mass produce food for tourists without thinking of the flavor or the experience. This place despite being in a tourist area next to the Ponte Vecchio actually cares about the food they make. This was truly amazing. The slow cooking of the beef was perfect. The sauce was perfect. I was sad when I was finished despite being full. The owner is very nice and inviting. If I lived in Florence, I would come back 100 times for this dish. I tried some of my girlfriend's dish, the pappardelle alla ragu with wild boar. It was also amazing. Will definitely be my first choice in the future if I come back to Firenze. read more

The cheese and pear pasta is the best pasta I think I have ever had, it combines sweet and savory flavors that are different from your typical pasta experience. I also had the Steak for 2, which is also wonderful and it is large, so be prepared. Very close to the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio. Both food and service was good. My daughter had the siu mai like pasta stuffed w/ pear & cheese in a white sauce w/ truffle for 15E. It was delicious. I had the Beef roll w/ spinach and cheese, also good. Husband had the fettuccini w/ truffle which was kind of blah, but I think that the nature of that dish. We had the bruschetta appetizer recommended by the wait staff. We each a plate of 2 and we thought it was nice of them to split the appetizer for us. No, they charged 5 euros per plate. That was unexpected. We had the recommended tiramisu with orange for dessert. While it was not bad, it did not taste like tiramisu. It was creamier but could not taste the ladyfingers. We tried a number of highly rated restaurants at lunchtime without reservations and had no luck. Stumbling upon Trattoria Ponte Vecchio was wonderful luck. The cheese and pear pasta is as good as the reviews say (but not a light dish), the hospitality is lovely and - bonus - it's air conditioned. The service was attentive but not overbearing, the pace of the meal was leisurely without being slow and everything from antipasto to dolce was delicious. It is very nice. the linen table runners and the wood paneling lent it a formal feeling, however, we were made welcome right away and it felt like home. I ordered the Chef's risotto with mushroom. It was Prepared just right. My salad was fresh and their balsamic was "delish". The bruschetta was very good as well and presented with the veg arranged up to represent the Italian flag.
