Centrally located it is an easy walk from most hotels. Reservations are required but not really. Many people just walked in and were given a table. Perhaps the major tourist season and weekends are much busier. Seated quickly and brought the menu. Not a huge selection but more than ample for most palates. Had the steak Florentine and gnocchi with walnuts. Side dishes were baked potatoes pieces and baked vegetables. Known for their steak Florentine and being in Florence our expectations were high. Sadly, it was just ho-hum. Everything was ho-hum. The appetizer was mushroom croutons and while served piping hot and with a decent presentation it was overall bland. Like Naples food bland. The steak was cooked as desired but came across as a big piece of meat. Flavor was Meh. Gnocchi was also presented nicely and very hot but was just a big bowl of gnocchi. Service was very quick and friendly. Ambience was nice (no alfresco at this restaurant). Bottom line...an okay place with okay food. Nothing bad, nothing super good. Yawn...

Ravioli di burrata w/ white truffles

Mangiafoco has a lot of truffle-oriented dishes, which is what I was craving during my day trip to Florence. I ordered the ravioli di burrata w/ white truffles. They were pretty generous with the truffle flakes but not as much with the ravioli. I thought the overall portion was a little stingy considering the price (over €40). The pasta was certainly delicious. Mangiafoco is somewhat away from the main touristy areas on a smaller, less busy street. The staff spoke decent English and were all very friendly. I got here when it opened so I can't speak for how crowded it was compared to other reviewers.

Overpriced!!! Way too expensive!!! Truffle is everywhere in the city so you don't need to go here for truffle. Although the pasta was good and we enjoyed our meal I would personally not go back for price reasons and that the food was not worth it For the price.

This is easily the best place I ate at in Florence. It's located on a quiet, narrow side street. We stopped here first for some appetizers & wine and came back a couple days later for lunch. Before I describe the food I'll mention that the service here was warm, friendly and attentive (although it seems getting the check at the end of the meal is a slow process everywhere in Italy). Everyone spoke English and provided excellent service. On our first visit we did a wine tasting of four wines, all of which were splendid. An incredible charcuterie board was presented as well as fresh bread, burrata and chips (amazing!), and a Florence specialty: fegatina (chicken liver crostini). The cheeses and meats on the charcuterie board were varied and all supremely delicious. On our second visit we were greeted with a bread basket which we heartily consumed. Next came a plate of burrata and prosciutto both of which were sheer pleasure to the taste buds. I then enjoyed a bowl of tortellini stuffed with salami and basil followed by tiramisu for dessert. Everything we ate here was so delicious; with every bite I seemed to be closing my eyes and savoring the moment with the hope of always remembering the pleasurable flavors. Yes, I highly recommend this place and - as it is small and gets busy - a reservation is a good idea although we didn't get one either time we visited but somehow got lucky to get seated with minimal wait time. One final note to Americans: if you are in the bathroom and can't find the hot and cold water knobs on the sink's faucet, look down! You use foot pedals!

A nice relaxing dinner After a long day at being a tourist we found Mangiafoco down a quiet side street. Florence is such a busy place, so many people walking around, it was a nice escape. Of course the restaurant was busy but we did get in even without a reservation. Better to have one, though. The decor is basically wine, bottles, box lids, there was even a large basket of corks next to our table. If you are looking for wine, this looks to be a good option. As for me, I was looking for some food. My wife and I split a salad and I selected their beef fillet with potatoes, called Cubo di Filetto di Manzo. By now I have figured out there is but one salad dressing, oil and vinegar. The steak was very good, cooked as it was ordered. While I wish it was a little larger, doesn't everyone who dines on steak. Service was fine, still more formal and to the point than in the US, but softer than we have sometimes encountered. It was a good choice for dinner.

Mangiafoco has an entire truffle menu! It's in a cute location too that isn't too touristy or crowded. The servers was so wonderful! Even the bread they serve you was delicious and fresh. One of the best restaurants in Florence

Pretty good restaurant in the heart of Florence. My friends and I decided to eat here because it was literally right across from our hotel (Hotel Alessandra) and it was a pleasant find. The food was overall good. Certain dishes were just ok but all in all it was good in my books. I've tried the Black Truffle Pasta and it was delicious. They gave a pretty hefty amount of truffle and the price wasn't too bad. Their pastas were al dente which I love. We also tried one of their bruschetta and meat/cheese platter and it was good. They have a decent wine list and tasting so that was awesome! We also tried their panna cotta and cheesecake. LOVE THEIR CHEESECAKE!!! Soooo good!!! It's so rich and cheesy but not sweet. Only sweet by the berries that accompany it! So good! :) Definitely a good eatery in Florence! :)

This place is amazing ! Came here as it was recommended in the lonely planet book. My husband and I love truffle and this place has so many delicious truffle dishes but if truffle isn't your thing they have tons of other options too. They also have an extensive wine list for wine lovers ! The staff is friendly , polite and attentive and answered any questions we had ! The atmosphere is funky and fun, and the music we shazamed the whole time ! We had the long pasta with fresh truffle and ravioli with fresh truffle , rosè, cheese platter (not pictured) and homemade tiramisu ! Highly, highly recommend ! Oh and they also have WiFi!

My wife and I came across Mangiafoco after straying just a little bit off the main streets of Florence, looking for a place to recharge after spending our day either in a train or walking in the punishing heat of an Italian heatwave. It's a fairly small place but has a very cool, modern design which I found refreshing after eating at a lot of places that were older and/or didn't pay as much attention to the interior design. With one look inside you can tell that it's a wine bar, as there's bottles stacked all over the place, but with care and not just stacks of wine boxes due to a lack of storage. There's a cooler with meats and cheeses and a small food prep area in the back of the dining room, and a bar in a slightly raised area to the left of the main room. The menu is fairly compact, with several appetizers (a few being Tuscan charcuterie, of course), pasta dishes, and a few main course type options. I wasn't feeling particularly hungry, so my wife and I split an order of their prosciutto bruschetta to start and I got a little bit adventurous and got their steak tartare for my "main", Asking for a suggestion on the wine, we went with the waiter and got a 2012 Montalcino. Their wine list is large, but not an unmanageable behemoth, so there was plenty of selection but not overwhelmingly so. Most of the list was in the 25-35 euro range, so quite affordable as well. The bruschetta came topped with a generous slathering of black truffle, cheese and prosciutto, on thick, thoroughly toasted bread. Given the truffle spread, it was very rich and had a lot of big flavours. It was actually the tipping point for me deciding that after three weeks of having more truffles than I'd ever had before, I wasn't a truffle guy, at least in large quantities like this. When my tartare came, it was an intimidating sight. I had done my mental math a little wrong, and thought that the very precise description of 150g of meat wasn't that much. Well let's put this in context: a quarter pound of meat is 110 grams, and a burger loses about 20% of its mass when its cooked, so my steak tartare was 70% heavier than a cooked quarter pound patty. I've had steak tartare before, and liked it obviously, but this was a lot of raw meat to put back as you just naturally have that voice in the back of your head telling you that its a risky proposition. So needless to say, I took it a bit slow with my mound o' meat, mixing in bites of the tasty fennel and carrot salad, and putting our bread basket to good use. The meat was good though; seasoned nicely, with a slight bit of acidity and herbiness, although I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't an egg yolk on top. Our Montalcino was a big bodied red, with just a bit of a sour bite that all paired well with the equally big flavours of the truffle and beef. Service was very attentive for an Italian place, and very helpful. I'd definitely suggest Mangiafocco if you're in Florence, as the combination of old world food in a modern atmosphere is a great combination.

    Fabulous!

We came here in July 2017 and adored the people, food of course and the authenticity of a true Italian mom and pop restaurant. This trip was to be to Rome but we agreed a detour to Florence first was necessary just to have dinner at mangiofoco! We just landed from LA and came straight here. We are here tonight again and it is truffle season and it's even better. Please come here and enjoy our secret spot, but only tell one other person. We like it as a local place

We went to this place during a visit with my family last spring and we absolutely loved it! The food, the service, and the wine were top notch. The place is tucked away in an alley a bit hidden from that crowds, and it provided the perfect amount of quite if you're the type who enjoys peace while dinning. The staff is very friendly and for the most part, speak English very well. I would highly recommend this place especially if you like anything truffle (oil, butter, honey). You can't go wrong with any of the dishes on the menu. Oh, definitely try one of their bottles of rose (no need to spend $$ getting the pricey ones since they're all good!)

Very cozy place, relaxing ambiance, and big selection of dishes with Truffles. All of us had finished our dishes. Wine selection is also pretty versatile.

Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I looked around and saw what seemed to be majority American tourists so I had very standard expectations. Well, what commenced...my god. I'm getting chills now thinking about the entire experience. Just the absolute perfect dinner my first night in Florence. Everything on the menu looked fantastic and I was even tempted to order 2 Primi (pastas) but my server discouraged it, said they were quite large. Instead she guided towards the "must" appetizer, the "onion flan with pecorino cheese and truffle" followed by their signature pasta, "pappardelle with wild boar ragù" The appetizer literally brought me to tears as soon as I took a bite. I didn't think I liked truffle but this was life-changing. And the pasta was served piping hot and also to die for. I complemented the meal with a delicious glass of white and red and ended with the utterly divine tiramisu. I will be dreaming about this meal for years to come. So epic.

We saw the fat physical reservation book when we went, and also saw an attempted walk-in get turned away. We wanted to go for dinner, but I'm just glad we were able to get in at all. Vini e Vecchi Sapori was easily my favorite restaurant in Florence. I loved the cozy, vibrant dining room, snug and eclectically decorated. We were at a table so tiny, I worried about pulling a muscle when I crossed my legs. It was nestled amongst other tiny tables, and abutted a counter where plates were put out for service and the reservation book set down in its glory next to my husband's head. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive. Our waiter basically told what to order and we obeyed him, with excellent results. The one-page handwritten menu, helpfully available in English, presented the day's offerings and this preemptive list of disclaimers: No Pizza No Cappuccino No The Fork No Ice No Spritz No Ketchup FUCK CANCER There was a brief selection of Italian wines by the glass, and we got the Chianti Classico and the Bruno de Montalcino, both lovely. The food was delicious, starting with good bread and good olive oil. We ordered the mixed Tuscany salami and the beef carpaccio as appetizers, and they were both superb and not in the least bit redundant. There were four or five types of salami, every one of them fantastic, and I loved the thin, silky carpaccio, served with rucola, parmesan, olive oil, and black pepper. We shared two splendid pastas, spinach ricotta ravioli in a creamy rose tomato sauce and a hearty pappardelle with duck ragu. For dessert, we had the lush, irresistible raspberries tiramisu. Came here for dinner and enjoyed a delicious dinner and glasses of wine. The Ribollita and the…read morePappa Al Pomodoro were both hearty and comforting which was perfect for the cold weather. The soups were all well prepared and the medley of ingredients were just absolutely enjoyable. It was the first time I tried these traditional Tuscan soups and I'll be looking for more in the future. As for the pork dish (Arista di Maiale), the meat was very tender, savory and so tasty. I chose to get a glass of red wine to enjoy with the meal and I like their model where they bring you a newly opened bottle and only charge you by what you pour. Smart on them since of course I poured myself more than one glass so really it's a win win for both. Reservations are highly recommended and there are no English menus available. Thankfully, one of the staff flagged down another worker who spoke english and was able to walk me through the menu. He was very friendly, helpful and patient. I cannot wait to go back and try the other traditional Florentine dish, the 1kg steak :)

Ordered the fresh pasta ravioli with pears and the baked tiramisu. Excellent, both of them. The people next to us had such a good meal they planned to return the next day for lunch. Five stars! But make a reservation or prepare to be disappointed...

The steak came out with great presentation. Sizzling on a hot plat. Giant piece of meat. We easily finish all the meat, so it was good. The steak tasted normal though - not as beefy as dry aged beef, or not as flavorful at some other places i have tried (Porteno in Sydney), Just regular red meat taste. A little not salty enough. For sure not the best steak i have ever eaten. Probably due to the simple way how Florentine steaks are cooked. The tiramisu was also mid. Servers were somehow all non-Italian (Indians), so that gave me a touristy vibe. But whatever lol. Anyways, it was still a good dinner date overall, so just want to leave it at a positive note.

Since we knew we couldn't finish the gigantic Florentine steak, we opted for the rib eye steak. I was particularly impressed with the steak. It was surprisingly tough considering it was rib eye. Did not notice much marbling on the rib eye either. On the other hand, I did enjoy the Beef Ragu as it provided tender chunks of beef in a tomato and carrot based ragu sauce. Very tasty and the pasta was tender and good bite to it. The service was subpar and uneven for us. Nobody even acknowledged us for 10 min after we sat and I had to flag someone to help us. The waiter seemed disinterested and just asked whether we are ready to order. Seems like they didn't know who was supposed to serve my table. Oh well. Guess I won't be coming back give all the restaurant options in Florence.
