Creamy and spicy, only if you mix in the hot parts. They come to table and weigh the meat in front of you so you know what you're paying for. It is cooked rare or medium rare. This is NOT like steakhouses in NYC. In its own category. It was presented with melting bone marrow, sea salt and cut off the bone. Extremely flavorful and tender. My only issue is that the fat doesn't render and there was silverskin in some pieces making it inedible, plus you've paid for this by weight. Great attentive service by Nick

She was friendly and attentive during our dinner. We began our meal with their house Chianti which was very good. We began with their ZaZa Cheese as appetizer. Next, we had Spaghetti alla Carbonara with Truffle and Pasta with Garlic and Olive Oil. We ended our meal with the ZaZa Tagliata with Italian Seasoning with Rosemary Potatoes. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.

They tried to move you in move you out and flip your table as many times as possible. That being said, you cannot complain about the attention that each table receives they were on it! Dirty plates cleared right away bread refilled right away, everything was fast. Now to the food, I had the Caprese salad to start, the tomato was bland, thankfully, their balsamic vinegar was delicious, and allowed me to spruce up the dish the way I like it. Since the tomato didn't do the talking, the balsamic vinegar did. Then came the pasta stuffed with pecorino cheese, and served in a cream sauce. This was the highlight of the meal my wife, had the white truffle pasta and a cream sauce. Normally,she doesn't like a cream sauce, but this was the exception a week later and she still can't stop talking about how good the pasta and the sauce was. Onto the main course, my wife had the Seabass, which was cooked perfectly, drizzled, and vegetables. Amazing! The most underwhelming part of my meal, were my lamb chops. I think they gave me the thinnest lamb chops, like they were leftovers ! not only that, but they cooked it way too fast, kind of a metaphor to their service, which was fast. This was evident and the texture. And the sinews and small fats did not break down with the meat a true sign of cooking the lamb too fastly and too thoroughly. We had dessert, tiramisu, which was average for the city of Florence. When a nice place is recommended by the concierge, you don't expect to be served disappointment with a hefty bill. Dave your money, go somewhere else!

The contrast was insulting. I was dressed in an upscale outfit appropriate for a refined dinner, yet I was treated as though I didn't belong. It felt discriminatory and dismissive. To make matters worse, at the end they tried to pressure me into tipping on the card machine -- in Italy, where tipping isn't even customary. The steak is pre-sliced and the server will serve the first piece, put some olive oil and black salt on it before letting you dine. That was cool to see!! The salt and olive oil taste so good on there. Between the 2 of us we left just a little steak behind and were able to eat mostly everything. The oven roasted potatoes were so tender and well seasoned. Great side choice. The vegetables were not cooked fully and were hard but that's ok, we still ate them and everything else was amazing. On the way out we were stopped by someone who appeared to be the owner who asked us how the meal was. He stated he had a gift for us and gave us a bottle of the house wine which is made specially for the restaurant. How cool!!! I couldn't thank him enough what a great dining experience! Highly recommend Vecchio Cancello especially if you want to try Florence's signature steak!
