I was recommended Auditore by a friend who visited Florence last year. I definitely wanted to try Florentine steak so I was happy to come visit. The experience was pretty nice, thanks to our awesome server. I thought the food was just alright for the price though. We decided to get the Scottona steak. Our server said he thought the 1.7g would be good for our table, but he brought out a 1.9g. I wasn't sure if we could change the steak.. so we ended up going with that. It was WAY too much for a table of four, especially since we ordered other food. It was great at first but we all got pretty sick of the steak after a couple of pieces. I'd definitely recommend getting the steak in moderation. We also got the Selezione di formaggi toscani, which I liked because we got to try different cheeses. My mom got the Pici all'aglione which she said was fine but nothing special. The most interesting part of our meal was the Zuccotto fiorentino, I had no idea what to expect and it did not disappoint. We chose this restaurant for two reasons - its excellent rating and its closeness to the Palazzo Vecchio. When we made the reservation on The Fork, we discovered we would also be getting a 30% discount on the food, which was a lovely surprise. We called the restaurant to see if we could come earlier for lunch, and they were most accommodating and said Yes. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and shown to a table inside. (There was a large, covered, outside seating area, but it was too chilly for us.) This restaurant celebrated its offerings of beef, complete with a large refrigerator filled with cuts and sides of beef that were aging. Our waiter was Edison. He has been in Italy for over 25 years and was originally from Albania. He was really great! We each enjoyed Ribollita alla Florentina to start. It is a Tuscan bread soup made with bread and vegetables and was delicious. My husband is a beef lover and what better place to enjoy beef than in this restaurant. He had the beef filet with Gorgonzola and walnut sauce while I enjoyed a plate of grilled vegetables - all accompanied by an excellent bottle of Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige. I don't remember who exactly recommended Auditore to me, but somehow it ended up in my bookmarks on Yelp. We played a lot of food by ear while in Firenze, and since we were looking for a place to have dinner I thought this would be a good place to check out. That being said, after a short visit to a nearby bar we made our way over for dinner. Like many restaurants in Firenze, Auditore has a generous amount of outdoor seating in addition to tables inside. It was slightly chilly so we opted for the latter, and we lucked out as it wasn't too crowded upon arrival so we were seated right away. Decor was pretty standard, and the restaurant looked semi-compartmentalized. The restaurant had a good selection of Italian/Tuscan fare - it featured steak but we were all steaked out from dinner the night before that we opted for more of a pasta-centric meal. Before the carbs though, we decided to get a couple of starters - namely a cured meat board and some bruschetta. The meats were good - there was a variety of salami, mortadella, and other cured meats with the centerpiece being a hunk of smoked burrata. We also ordered some bruschetta which was so simple yet so good - some of the best bruschetta I've had. For mains we went with pastas - the tagliatelle with chianina ragu looked good so I went with that. Chianina is an Italian breed of cattle so the pasta was essentially in a bolognese sauce which was more than fine with me. The pasta was fresh and the beef was flavorful - really a top-drawer pasta dish. We also decided to split an Ezio salad which contained onion, tomato, hard-boiled eggs, and chunks of cheese - a fresh reprieve to the relative heaviness of the pasta. Service was great, everyone was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, I had a great meal at Auditore; the food was fresh with quality ingredients and I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Firenze. read more

We ate here for lunch after touring the Academia under their outside umbrellas with misters to keep it a little cooler. Across the street was a caffe that had a lot greenery so that was nice to look at while we ate here. The service was good, we had no real issues and ate at a good pace. For lunch I got the bruschetta and cheese plate. The bruschetta was great but the cheese plate was even better. They had a jam and honey with the cheeses which both paired well, but the honey was fire. I really liked all the cheeses and my wife and daughter liked helping me with the cheese. read more

If you know Florence, just about every restaurant (but not all) offers "Bistecca di Firenze"... T-bone steak grilled (rare-medium/rare) on wood charcoals. They're literally everywhere! We had tried the bistecca a couple of times, But tonight at Auditore, we opted for steak with truffle (for me) and steak gorgonzola for my wife. Truffles is another 'spice' or food that is seems to be very popular in Italy. Excellent service, wonderful steak and a nice bottle of Chianti on a beautiful evening in Florence Italy. Incredible authentic Florentine food. Great location and service. Nine people in our party and all the plates were licked clean! We came back second night in a row. It's just that good and tonight was better than last night, if that's possible. We had roast potatoes, which were the best we've ever had, asparagus risotto, which was made in heaven and bursted with asparagus flavor like we've never seen, and a locally sourced TBone, which you pick out and they carve off the bone for you. High expectations after reading positive reviews, but was quickly disappointed by mediocre food, the worst being a very chewy "filet." The medium rare temp was perfect, though. The wine was almost hot - like it was stored next to a stove. The waiter had to know - the bottle was a lot warmer than room temp when I touched it. Inside air conditioning didn't cool the room, although it did drip water onto my plate. Waiter was abrupt while putting on a fake friendly-ish act. We had some friends that ate here three days in a row and had to try it. By far the best meal we have had in Florence and we will also be back for more on this trip. This place was our first dinner in Florence and it did not disappoint. The location is at a busy intersection and so it is lively. It wasn't great weather but good enough to sit outside - we had a reservation for 7 but came around 6 and was seated promptly. They have humongous steaks but we ended up getting a single size one that had caramelized onions on top with a sauce that was fantastic. Before that we tried a peculiar appetizer - broccoli flan and it was a top five bite during our 16 day trip to Italy. We also had a caprese salad and of course we had a carbonara and that was the best one we had in Italy. Every bite was great and Florence food is just fantastic. While we enjoyed our food, the entire dinner took a lot longer than it needed to because of how slow the service was throughout. The restaurant was moderately busy, but it was a little frustrating to have to try and flag down our waiter each time, even as he was walking by and checking on nearby tables. The process of paying for our bill was also confusing as no one actually told us we needed to take the bill inside to pay (found out from those dining next to us). That all being said, the food was still pretty decent. The Cacio e Pepe was made even better by the addition of truffles upon our request. The lasagna was solid, but not spectacular. It was also a rather disappointing portion as well, especially compared to our other dishes and what else we saw on nearby tables. While the food itself was solid, I can't say this is a place I'd rush back to given the various hiccups we experience throughout. read more

Stumbled upon this place for lunch, it's off the busy street so it's quieter. Our waiter was quick, kind, and had great recommendations! We went with caccio e pepe (best one I had on the trip!), gnocchi, bruschetta, and papardelle ragu. Everything tasted SO good, the beers were huge, and we loved every second of being here! Server was funny and nice. With summer weather, it's nice to be seated outside. I ordered the tuscan appetizer and it comes with 2 crostini (one with tomatoes and one with chicken liver), prosciutto, salami and olives. Honestly, I'm not into chicken liver but this one was good, they were able to cut the bitterness out. But I've tried crostini in other places and this wasn't the best in terms of the chicken lover one. I loved the tomato one though because it tastes so fresh and of course it tastes great with basil as always. The cured meats were delicious of course and the olives were not pitted so be careful. For the main dish, I ordered the gnocchi with gorgonzola and walnuts. It's my first time trying this dish ever and I must say it's really thick and creamy. The gorgonzola flavor was light, the gnocchi was soft, and the walnuts were crunchy. It was good and the portion is perfect for one person (otherwise, taking it to go is also an option). Would not return. The staff was extremely inattentive unless we went out of our way to flag them down. We could visibly tell that we were not treated the same as other guests which made it worse. Not to mention the gaslighting comments they make in response to their Google reviews, threatening to call the "Italian postal police" because of a bad review?? I love food, so I'm huge into getting places when we travel. The plaza had several options to choose from, but this menu stuck out to us, so we grabbed a table. Our server was Lindy (not sure how to spell it), and he was great. I like asking the servers for their suggestions, and he was very helpful guiding us to some delicious local options, the Ossobucco and lamb that was slow cooked in red wine. They were both perfect for us, and gave us a real taste of Florence. After the meal we had cappuccino and desserts. I can't remember the name of his, but it was biscotti with a sweet wine that you dip the cookies in. I had tiramisu. I'm not into his dessert, but he loved it, and I completely enjoyed the tiramisu. The cream was somewhat runny at times, but it tasted amazing and the ladyfingers were still partially fluffy. Go try it out in between museums. Ask for Lindy and enjoy a long lunch. read more

My husband gets credit for discovering this place - he walked by it and thought the pastas looked good, and he was right. It was very near our hotel, served both pizza (for our kid) and pasta (for us), had plentiful outdoor seating and was open all day (it's somewhat hard to find restaurants in Italy that don't close between 3 and 7 pm), so it was a great choice for our family and we ended up coming here twice. (I used to have a rule about not eating in the same place twice on vacation, but that's gone out the window since having a kid - when you find a good restaurant that meets your family's complicated needs you cling to it like a life preserver.) Across our two visits, I tried the cacio e pepe, carbonara and pasta with porcini mushroom and truffle sauce, and they were all great. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the caprese salad. In general I think it's a good rule of thumb to avoid restaurants in touristy areas with menus out front, but this place is definitely an exception to that. read more

What an amazing restaurant and the best service. We started with some amazing wine recommendations that would highly complement our dinner. For dinner, a Florentine steak was selected and the staff cut and presented the t-none to us before cooking. He advised us on how they cook the steak with T side down to a rare temp. The steak was perfectly cooked and the presentation was beautiful. Grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes were orders as sides and both were great. To finish off the amazing meal I ordered the house tiramisu. Made daily and presented in a jar, this was hands-down the best I have ever had.
