This steakhouse is so good that I had to add it on Yelp. Just imagine the largest, best steak you've ever had - perfectly cooked on a bed of charcoal to keep it warm. THAT'S what Trattoria La Gratella serves. I'm visiting Florence from California and all my friends recommended that I get some good Florentine steak. I did a lot of research on Google Maps and I made a reservation for this trattoria. I highly recommend booking a reservation online because 1. It is easy to do so and 2. There was a constant line outside the door! I made the reservation at 7:00 (their opening time) and was seated immediately. We ordered the following which was THE PERFECT amount of food for four individuals: -- salad side dish (it is actually quite large -- eggplant starter dish -- Pappardelle al cinghiale (wide tagliatelle with wild boar sauce, recommended by our server) -- a bottle of Chianti red wine (of course) -- onion soup (surprisingly very good) -- desserts: tiramisu, lemon sorbet, panna cotta -- finally, the star of the meal: a 1.5kg "La Classica Fiorentina" steak My review will be about the steak because the whole point of coming here is for that giant cut of delicious meat. They serve it over a bed of charcoal which is so perfect because it keeps the steak warm but doesn't cook the steak too much throughout your meal. My server didn't even ask how we wanted the steak cooked, he just assumed medium rare (which is imo the only way to cook steak) I'm not even exaggerating when I say that this is the best steak I've ever had in my life. I've been to Kobe, Japan and I grew up in Argentina/Uruguay. This steak is really REALLY good. It's lean, very meaty but somehow also melt-in-your-mouth. There's appropriate chunks of fat on the grill so you can balance your lean cuts with the fat. The charcoal lends a bit of additional flavor but the steak is just good in its simplicity with the large chunks of salt the trattoria provides at your table. Our meal started with a sparkling wine and ended with a limoncello (complimentary, which is always a good sign). All the Google review raved about the tiramisu but honestly I thought it was just okay. Very chocolately and not enough coffee flavor for me. My favorite dessert out of the three we ordered was the panna cotta. I think I've had terrible exposure to panna cotta in my life because this panna cotta was very different from others I've tried. The service? Also excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Fluent in English. Our server suggested the perfect amount of meat to order for our family of four. The minimum order amount for the t-bone is 3kg so we decided to go with 1.5kg of the Florentine instead. I highly recommend Trattoria La Gratella to any Florence visitor looking for a great Florentine steak. I am HONORED to write the first review for this excellent restaurant!

I came here on my last night in Florence, and there was no wait. The server was super friendly and inviting. I sat at one of the front tables and came here solo. I ordered plenty of food and a solid 0.5 liters of house wine. As for the food, I ordered their traditional Florentine steak with olive oil and salt on the side. The decoration is like that of a traditional Roman restaurant and winery. It was cozy. I had a great time during my dinner at this restaurant. I stayed almost three hours, and the server did not rush me. He just kept telling me to take my time to enjoy my wine. Ultimately, before paying for my meal, the server got me a complimentary limoncello shot on top of my grappa shot! Wowzieee! This place is one of my favorite spots in Florence, so if I ever return to this city shortly, I'll have this review as a reminder that I enjoyed my time here!

We loved this place so much, we returned on our last night in Florence; highly recommend reservations. We tried the lemon pasta, pasta with wild boar sauce, Pici with cabbage & bacon, filet with mushrooms, Florentine fish, caramel panna cotta, and tiramisu. Listen, it is all delicious. Both our servers, Billy and Valentino, were helpful and delightful. The entertaining doorman (who I think is also the owner) is straight out of a Seinfeld episode! Don't even think of walking in until he calls your name ;) !

My mom and I visited Florence during the first week of September, and La Gratella was recommended by our hotel as a good neighborhood restaurant. I cannot rave enough about this place's hospitality and warmth. Our hotel staff knew a server there and gave them a call ahead of time to make a reservation on our behalf, and to give them a heads up that I am a wheelchair user. The restaurant was accessible, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the food was fantastic. We ordered the Ravioli al limone and a steak, and we compared all our subsequent meals to this one during the remainder of our trip in Italy. A special shoutout to our waiter Francesco, affectionally nicknamed "Fabio." He kept us laughing through dinner, and left a memorable first impression of Italy on our 2nd night in Florence!

Amazing food, with exceptional service. So good, that I had to come back within the same trip to try more of their menu.

Amazing steakhouse located within walking distance of the SM Novella station. Reservations are highly recommended. The beef is Florentine style served on a mini-grill, because of safety reasons, it's not hot. The beef is seared in the kitchen & finished in their ovens to very rare. The meat is extremely tender, melting in your mouth. Not to be missed. The roasted local potatoes were tender inside and slightly crispy outside. Perfecto. We opted for the large ensalate to share & it was the right portion for 3-4 p

This place is amazing!!! So underrated. Our hotel receptionist recommended this place to us. We've been in Florence for 3 nights and have eaten dinner 2/3 nights here. Get the Florentine steak!!! So worth the price and absolutely amazing. Their prices are great considering the food quality and compared to other places I've seen it's pretty good. The service is wonderful, every server I've seen has such a full personality. It's not like other service I've experienced since being in Europe. Antonio was amazing & our second server was also very fun. I will be coming here every time I come to Florence.

Great food, ambiance and staff!! You get to have your steak on a hibachi type grill at your table. It's cooked rare and you get to cook it more the way you prefer. Very cool!

This is a wonderful date night spot in Florence. The restaurant is small, but they work the space well with beautiful brick archways in between sections. My husband and I split a bottle of wine, the T-bone steak, a side of potatoes and a dessert. Everything was delicious! The service was also incredible, with Marika as our waitress.

This place is amazing! They have the best homemade pasta, but the must is the steak. I highly recommend bringing a couple of friends since the steak is large and great for sharing! This is a must stop if you are in Florence.

Fantastic!!! My husband had the steak Florence. It was s T-bone steak cooked exactly the way he wanted it, rare. It was served on a small charcoal grill on the table. My son had the parpadelli with wild boar ragu. Delicious. I had the tortaleni. Everything was great. The people were so warm and friendly. By the end of our meal the owner brought over a bottle of grappa and my husband was in heaven. I highly recommend this place in Florence. Perfection!!!. .

The steak came out with great presentation. Sizzling on a hot plat. Giant piece of meat. We easily finish all the meat, so it was good. The steak tasted normal though - not as beefy as dry aged beef, or not as flavorful at some other places i have tried (Porteno in Sydney), Just regular red meat taste. A little not salty enough. For sure not the best steak i have ever eaten. Probably due to the simple way how Florentine steaks are cooked. The tiramisu was also mid. Servers were somehow all non-Italian (Indians), so that gave me a touristy vibe. But whatever lol. Anyways, it was still a good dinner date overall, so just want to leave it at a positive note.

Since we knew we couldn't finish the gigantic Florentine steak, we opted for the rib eye steak. I was particularly impressed with the steak. It was surprisingly tough considering it was rib eye. Did not notice much marbling on the rib eye either. On the other hand, I did enjoy the Beef Ragu as it provided tender chunks of beef in a tomato and carrot based ragu sauce. Very tasty and the pasta was tender and good bite to it. The service was subpar and uneven for us. Nobody even acknowledged us for 10 min after we sat and I had to flag someone to help us. The waiter seemed disinterested and just asked whether we are ready to order. Seems like they didn't know who was supposed to serve my table. Oh well. Guess I won't be coming back give all the restaurant options in Florence.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

We were browsing the menu outside when the owner was nice enough to invite us in. We ordered wine and got complementary appetizers which consisted of some meat and bread with olive oil and balsamic. We browsed the menu and couldn't decide on what to get because unlike other steak houses this one had many many other cuts to choose from but we settled on the infamous BISTECCA ALLA FIORENTINA. After we ordered it took about Roughly 15-20 minutes before our perfect piece of meat came out. The meat was tender and juicy and so perfectly seasoned. Every single piece of meat was meat in your mouth worthy. Even though the piece we got was huge it was sooo good my sister and I finished it no problem. We were even tempted to take the bone home and chew on it but that wouldn't be lady like... Service was good. We were let down by our first attempt in Florence when the meat was tough and mostly flavorless. After much research, he decided we were going to The Cut. We luckily scored reservations via thefork, one day in advance. We started off being served complimentary prosecco and a grilled mortadella amuse buche. We ordered the carpaccio chianina, grilled ember vegetables, and their daily special, an Argentinian beef (10 year old dairy cow that had been aged 60+ days). We asked if we should order any toppings or sauces, and the answer was no - neither was needed (as the flavor of the steak should stand out on its own). I appreciate that. Unfortunately, they ran out of the carpaccio chianina, so the owner comped us a chianina tartar so we could try the infamous chianina. Very tender yet robust flavor, especially with the salt. The steak (medium rare), cooked perfectly and very tender, but I can't say it was amaze-balls. Also, both this and the chianina only came in rib eye (not full T-bone), but that meant we could order 1 kg instead of the 1.2 kg minimum. That was good since between the two of us, we could not even polish off the 1 kg. The grilled ember vegetables were delicious! Too bad there just weren't that many of them. The owner apologized and told us they were on the house, since his shipment did not come in due to the holiday on Monday. We are from out of town, so honestly we wouldn't have know the difference if that was a normal or sparse portion. That was nice of him. Service was A+. Attentive, knowledgeable and so hospitable. Reservations are a must! This is a small restaurant and many parties were turned away during the duration of our meal there only.

We decided to forego the set menu and only order the steak because we heard the portions are massive and they are. They present to you with 2 steak options: the T bone at about 1.5kg and the Tomahawk at 1.2kg. Since we had the T bone at another restaurant already, so went with the Tomahawk and had it cook rare as recommended. When the steak came they carved the meat table side, but unfortunately the cast iron plate the steak was on wasn't hot at all, and since we got a rare steak, the meat turned code very quickly. The meat of the steak was good, better than the previous steakhouse we went to, but there were tendons which got stuck in my teeth. However, the washroom did not have floss at all and I was taken back by the random graffiti on the bathroom wall while this was supposed to be a fancy steakhouse. All in all, I think this is more of a tourist destination as all the other tables spoke English. Local Italian people don't eat here, and you're better off going to another place that's less pricey.
