Needed a little salt, but it could be because we are Americans. The cannelloni beans with olive oil was divine such a simple dish, but so tasty The Panna cotta was so smooth and creamy. We made a last minute reservation in Florence and I'm glad that we did. This place as most restaurants are in Italy, was small but quaint and cute. I love the little touch of a lit candlestick at our table. It was pretty busy and as we looked around at people's entrees, I can see why. The Bruschetta was fresh with the taste of fresh basil, olive oil, and garlic were apparent. The vegetable minestrone was delicious. It was perfect for the cold evening. The sautéed spinach was a great side for the Scottie's steak. The risotto was delicious as was the pasta. We absolutely loved this place. The staff was amazing and they made great suggestions. Staff had to confirm that I was 1 person since the app they use to book reservations doesn't allow 2 people as an option for dinner. They were very rude (maybe tell the app to let people book so we don't have this issue). Make reservations in advance since they don't seem to do walk in's. I offered to pay more since something about a commission based off using the app. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere but somewhat tight seating. An older lady fell down a small step or something in the restaurant while eating. If the pasta with mushroom wasn't so delicious I'd be more annoyed. The food was actually really worth being inconvenienced. I'd give this a place a 2/5 star but the food did make up for it. read more

People seem to like it but I think it's just a solid choice. You won't hate it yet it's not the best. Firenze is known for steak. This is not the best I've ever had (again, it's not bad - just fine). We ordered soup, grilled vegetables, steak, and pappardelle in ragu sauce so, I'm qualified to say everything is fine but nothing is outstanding. The whole restaurant smells overwhelmingly of truffles, or maybe just all the people around us had them. We were there for dinner last night because of high review. I ordered Baked Chicken Roll Stuffed with Seasonal Vegatables, our waitress Anza told me that they were out of chicken and ask me to switch. I ordered Sirloin Beef with Rocket Salad and Parmesan, medium. The food came out late. We had eight people and half were done with their meal when the remaining half received the food, including mine. My meat was bloodied, when I pointed out that the meat is rare not medium, my waitress started to lecture me that is what I have ordered. When my friends questioned that I did order medium for my meat, she said there is nothing that she could do. I asked for the manager and that arrogant attitude continued, saying that is how they eat in Italy and condensingly asked whether we want a discount (he did not offer discount). I told him that I just need him to acknowledge that the meat is rare (bloody rare), which he refused. We paid the full price of the meals with no discount as we were insulted with their attitude. Our waiter was delightful, helpful and explained Florentine food highlights the natural taste of food so the steak was minimally seasoned and perfectly grilled. My wife stated she read about this place somewhere. It did not disappoint. We got there shortly after 6:30 and there was plenty of space. By the time we departed it was packed. Great atmosphere, attentive staff, made great drink recommendations. We had beer and wine only. Food was presented well and very flavorful. I'm not sure if I would cross town to return but if I'm in the area I would definitely try this cute place out. I highly recommend the Caprese Salad. I tend to give a lot of thought before I comment on a restaurant experience that was not as expected. Having spent decades in the hotel industry, I recognize things do go wrong. What defines a good establishment from others is how they respond, and this is perhaps one of the worst. I spend a lot of time researching restaurants I would like to dine at on our trip to Florence, and on Oct 3rd made my reservation for the 16th. It has exceptional reviews but being a foodie I went there after studying the menu! We arrived a little earlier than our reservation and they asked us to have a drink in the little bar next to them until they were ready. Took the time to power up my email and there was one from them reminding us of our reservation and directed us to their website to check out their menu while we wait. Got seated and looked at their menu and thought something was out of place. Yes, their prices on the website were lower than their menus!! I have NEVER seen this so I pointed it out to the manager who glibly said "yes", so I asked what was the real price? He says "the menu". That sounded ridiculous considering I showed him the website menu. Anyhow, I chose to stay so I chose to pay. After a bit, a server took our orders, and my wife asked for black tea to soothe her throat. She was told they did not have any! So I flagged down the manager and said "my wife wants black tea, do you have any?" He said they did so I asked why the server said they didn't! Again a glib response The meal was good - nothing exceptional, the mozzarella with black truffles were definitely overrated and my steak had grizzle. No staff came to ask if I'd like more wine, it was as if we didn't exist! I wanted to see where this leads so I sat back and waited. Over 20 minutes after our plates were cleared the bussing staff asked if we'd like dessert and menus were offered. Another 20 mins later the manager come with his well orchestrated smile and asks if we'd like anything. At this point , I'd had enough and told him I'd like the cheque since serving us clearly wasn't their plan. He acted surprised, and profusely apologized for the service and claimed the owners change prices - blah! Well, here you have it - a thoroughbred tourist trap! Called the restaurant because we were looking for two specific dishes. To our luck, they had both dishes and availability. My partner and I hopped into a taxi and arrived at the location 10 minutes later to be seated in the back of the restaurant...with a whining dog. When seated the dog immediately snarled and began whining. When asked if we can be moved, they restaurant said there's no availability and rudely corrected me that the patrons seated after us, had reservations and we were just a last minute walk-in. Wish they told us we'd be seated near a dog when we were encouraged to quickly come to the restaurant. As we left, the dog started barking up a storm. I love dogs, but I don't enjoy expensive tabs with terrible company. Keep your loud dogs at home. I wouldn't recommend going here. My friend passed this restaurant the last time she was in Florence and noticed the beautiful indoor decor. The front of the restaurant has adorable string lights that really set the ambiance of the place. We started with the truffle burrata (to die for) & and the meat and cheese board (a good amount of food). Their chianti was delicious and paired perfectly with the tagliatelle bolognese. First time at Il Paiolo a month ago for dinner with a group of 7 at 8:30pm when vacationing in Florence! We needed a last minute reservation on a Friday evening and Il Paiolo came to the rescue. It was a recommendation to try it out from a close friend and it didn't disappoint! We started out with the artichoke and burrata plate to split. We then got gnocchi sorrentina, which was so fresh and simple! We also got the tripe and it was one of the best we had in all of Florence. It's easy to make tripe gummy but the texture was perfect and the sauce was extremely flavorful. Would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a shot! They have a very expansive wine list. This is my first time in Italy snd my second meal here. I wish I had read about racism in Italy before coming here. I watched a waiter cater endlessly to white couples and families. We had to wait 15 past our RSVP time to be seated but only before a white couple likewise waiting outside was seated, then my steak was undercooked. When I asked it to be placed in the oven to finish it, I was brought a different, inferior cut of meat. I hope some Italians read this and understand the world is changing - my children and your children will be more and more mixed. People vote with their wallets. The food, the ambience, the staff, everything was AMAZING. It's in the center of the city, so we ended our day here. The restaurant was so beautiful and had a nice authentic feel to it. I sat near the back and could watch the butchers cut the beautiful aged steaks and I knew I wanted one right away. They had a great deal, 69 euros for 1000 hg of steak, with a side of salad or potatoes and dessert! We went with this option and it was so GREAT. Our server - Ervin was the kindest person I met in all of Florence. Really helpful and patient with us. He was funny, charming, and kind to us. He made the restaurant above par. If you have an allergy do not come here. We confirmed 4 times with numerous staff members that there was no pistachios/nuts in the food we ordered since our friend is deathly allergic. They confirmed with the kitchen that there wasn't. We got asked to move tables MID MEAL because they wanted to make room for a bigger party & we happily moved for them to a corner table. They brought us free dessert for moving tables & once again we asked if there was pistachios/nuts in the dessert (that we never asked for) and they checked with the kitchen & reported back that there wasn't. Well there were pistachios sprinkled in and my friend's tongue and throat started going numb & closing. Luckily there was an emergency room close by or else she would have died. When we calmly talked to the owner asking to comp just her meal he was mad at us and blamed us? What a joke of an owner, we got asked to move tables mid meals & get rewarded with paying for the meal & a trip to the ER. Please if you have a food allergy do not go here, it is not taken seriously. We had a ravioli in beetroot sauce (on the waiter's recommendation), and it was both unique and very good. Throughout the meal, service was excellent and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great.
