For one of our last meals in Florence, I made a reservation at Il Latini. Although it was recommended, I don't think it was necessary. We weren't super hungry, so we didn't order the Bisteka alla Fiorentina. We settled on the mixed cold cuts for an appetizer. My husband had the Paccheri with wild boar, while I had the Veal Chop and we ordered grilled vegetables for the table. The wild boar pasta dish was flavorful and the veal chop was also full of flavor - especially with the fat cap. We also ordered a bottle of the house red - it was only €13! The waiter had accidentally spilled the bottle when it was half full and promptly opened a new one and replaced it - great service! And that bottle of red was absolutely divine! Came here for its reputation of traditional Florentine steakhouse. The restaurant opened after 730pm and there was a huge line outside. We had to make reservation a day before because this place looked quite popular. Inside there were mix of locals and tourists like us. It had friendly waiters, prosciutto hanging from the ceiling, and tight seating. We ordered the Family Style Ribeye Steak Chianina Certified. They brought the cerficiation paper showing the meat was from Chianina. We were impressed and we felt there was no need to bring such proof. So they brought in bread, appetizers, prosciutto, rice salad, beans, potatoes, pasta... They were all delicious and well made. I had high expectation for the ribeye... The ribeye came out raw. It was unexpected and surprising. The blood was in the meat and it felt chewy. I couldn't enjoy it. I am more used to medium rare. I politely asked the waiter to bring it back to the kitchen and cook it into medium rare. The waiter refused saying it is the way it is. It was traditional Florence steak, and the chef would also refuse to cook it further. I gave up. I gotta say traditional Florence style steak is not my taste. Perhaps for other people Everything else afterwards was great. The tiramisu, panna cotta, and the complimentary drinks and the coffee. I gotta say the service was spot on Overall, I enjoyed everything but the steak. Total bill was over 200 euros. If i had known florence steak was raw, i wouldn't have come here. First night in Florence and husband wanted Florentine steak. This restaurant is around the corner from our Airbnb, has a Michelin Bib Gourmand, long lines outside, and good reviews. Made a resie on their web site the night before for 9:30. The place was packed but they sat us down a little after 9:30. Friendly waiters, cute place with prosciutto hanging from the ceiling. We sit in the middle room with other Italians, so it's not just tourists there. We had a pleasant waiter who has worked there 21 years, started with bread and water. Eventually husband ordered the smallest tbone (1.7 kg or 3+ pounds with bone) and spinach, and I ordered pasta with wild boar meat sauce. Steak says cost is 60,000 but that's per kg. So it's really more like 102,000 where my pasta was 15,000. We ordered a 25,000 bottle of Chianti and waited for the steak, which took a good 30 minutes. It came out rare (as he likes it) with salt on side and giant bone. The New York side was very tender while the filet a little more cooked. He really liked it and has high standards. The pasta was good, they use a paccheri noodle which is like a large rigatoni. Luckily not cooked al dente like so much in Italy. We end up taking half of everything home and will eat for a few more days. They also have a 60,000 per person family style meal with 4 courses but it's a ton of food and everyone at the table needs to order it. Comes with Florentine steak too. Total bill for two was $189, our most expensive meal on this trip but it would have been more reasonable without the Florentine. The place is great. 5 stars in every category. I made a reservation at 7:30pm which was their opening time. When I showed up 10mins before the reservation time, there were already lots of people waiting. Sharp at 7:30pm, the restaurant opened. Everyone was patiently getting inside. The restaurant was very organized. The servers were all ready to serve and help. I promptly got seated. The vibe was a traditional Italian style. With some recommendations, I got a plate of mixed cold cuts, a charcoal filet mignon, a bottle of wine, and a cantucci and vinsanto for dessert. The food was amazing. They only served filet mignon in rare and it was perfect. It was so tender and not bloody. The coarse salt on the side went very well with the steak. The steak was less than US$40, no tax was added and service was like US$3 per head. Love this place. A reservation is recommended to make a month ahead. read more

We were so excited to experience this restaurant for our honeymoon, however the owners run a very heartless business. We made a mistake on our reservation, confusing the date format, and were charged 500€ for missing it. Taking responsibility for the negligence and begging for them to help us rebook for the intended date, they refused. That fee is such a hard hit on our family. I ate here years ago. I remember having delicious rabbit. Since then, however, they have become so precious and rude it is not worth it. Charging a family €500 for accidentally missing their reservation because they had the date wrong (easy to do with the date format), especially since they probably easily resold the table to a walk-in. Some penalty may have been in order, but €500 when they were out zero money? And refusing another couple when they asked to get their steak slightly more cooked than raw is ridiculous. Yes, the locals eat their steak extremely rare, but at the prices they should accommodate different palettes. At least they didn't charbroil it out of spite. Sad. The tomato / biscuit side was a mixture of watered down bread and lack luster flavor. The best thing at the meal was the initial prosciutto plate. We made reservations ahead of time for the 7:30PM time slot. By the time we arrived right at opening, there was already a line out the door, so do make reservations. BEWARE THE FAMILY STYLE MENU. When they say "family style", they mean "family style". All four of us opted for the family style meal for 60 euros per person, but what we did not realize was that because there were four of us, they QUADRUPLED the portion sizes for each dish. We were already so stuffed after all the initial side dishes, I had to ask the hostess to cut out the dessert AND we still ended up taking some of the food to-go. Plus, instead of one Florentine steak, we got TWO (again, they quadruple the portions). I felt so bad having to tell them to take one of them away, because we just could not finish it all and we had no refrigeration/microwave at the place we were staying at. We barely finished one of them. We did take the bread, cold cut meats, and potatoes to go, and those potatoes were still so damn tasty unheated the next day for breakfast. Don't get me wrong. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the crostinis, the cold cut meats, the vegetable and bread soup, and the pasta side dishes. After that, I think I blacked out. It was just way too much for us. Service was hard to get ahold of due to language barriers and because they were so busy running around attending to other customers. We hadn't made up our minds when the waiter stopped by the first time around to take our orders, and ended up waiting twenty minutes before he came back to do so. If you DO intend in partaking in the family style meal, make sure you are prepared to take leftovers because they do adjust the portion sizes based on number of members in your party. Next time, I will just order a la carte or, if we do end up doing family style, requesting them to halve the portion sizes. I think it would have worked out perfectly if the portion sizes had been made for two people to be shared amongst the four of us. Note: all photos taken were part of the family style menu. This restaurant was a suggestion from a boutique owner in Sorrento, and yes this restaurant is in Florence but I guess it's a well known name! We went here for our Anniversary dinner and it was so worth it. We had their amazing T bone steak cooked to rare perfection . Our server was super friendly and very respectful to our needs . Despite having a reservation, it took them 20 minutes to seat us. We ordered a huge Florentine steak and some pastas, which were just alright - nothing amazing, unfortunately. The service was okay but not very accommodating. On the plus side, the restaurant had a cool atmosphere with meat hanging from the ceiling, which added to the ambiance. If you're in Florence and hungry, come eat here. Excellent homemade Tuscan cuisine, and very friendly service. They speak great English too in case you're worried about language barriers. Food quality is excellent. And if you order the family style tasting menu for 60euro per person, they give you a ridiculously large amount of food. If you can eat a lot, its a tremendous value. You get a salami plate, bread, crostinis with various toppings, a pasta, 2 stews, a giant Florentine steak (around 1.2kg was mine for 2 ppl) and a regular sized dessert from their menu each. We could not finish the menu. It's beyond American sized and very generous. Beware, Florentine steak is served rare, and only rare. So if you dont like rare steak, dont order it. But if you do like rare steak, theirs is delicious. Reservations are a must. Do it online, super quick. Restaurant is always packed. Il Latini, of course, directly translates to "The Heartbeat of Tuscany..." Hahaha okay no it doesn't, but perhaps it should. 8 days into my 10-day trip in Florence, this was a top 2 meal for me. I made a res for right when it opened and when I showed up there was a sea of people standing outside and waiting. Kind of felt like I was amongst the who's who of Florence mixed with traveling families exhausted of trying to wrangle everyone to get to dinner on time. The anticipation was building for me, and it did not disappoint. I was seated immediately and the server came up and asked if anyone else would be joining me. When I gave him a hard no, he said he would take care of me (ha) and asked me my name and shook my hand. "My name is Stefano, great to meet you Johnny!" I'm fully comfortable eating alone at this point, as sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner and sometimes I feel like I'm my only friend, but it was still a nice touch to be greeted in such a way that is going above and beyond. It's the little things. I ordered a full bottle of chianti to myself, I mean why not I am in Florence where the greatest artists in the world were roaming these streets slamming Chianti back in the 1500s. I would be doing them a disservice not housing that whole bottle. For food, I ordered the selection of Salami, Penne with meat sauce, and the Peposo, which is a sort of Tuscan beef stew originating in Florence. Wonderful dinner. This place has a lot of cozy charm and the food was so good. We started with the cozy tomato bread soup and sampled the vegetable flan. Both were wonderful. The soup was so rich and flavorful. The flan was smooth and silky with tasty vegetables. The braised beef you could cut with a fork and the sauce was wonderfully flavorful- a rich onion, tomato flavor. The pigeon was a first for us. The pigeon is wrapped around its organ meats (heart and liver) and then roasted. It has a rich layer of fat/skin. It came with an onion gravy. Very tasty and tender. This was a must try for us while in Florence. It is rich in history and the interior design is dripping with it. There were 4 of us and we made reservations thankfully. Don't be surprised when you get to the restaurant and there are a lot of people standing outside! They have a 7:30 seating and a 9:30 seating, everyone basically gets seated at those 2 times. Our server was phenomenal. He spoke English well and was always nearby if you needed something. The food was amazing with the exception of the famous florentine steak. Sadly that was a bit of a letdown, it was huge, only comes rare, and was very difficult to cut and chew. After a few bites we decided it wasn't worth the effort. However everything we had before the steak and after was simply delicious. We tried multiple items from the menu including the onion cooked in ash which was surprisingly quite good. The bean and barley soup was one we would eat on repeat and the pasta with meat sauce along with the desserts were hits as well! Strangely enough, eating at Il Latini was one of my favorite experiences in Florence. My husband and I were determined to have a Florentine steak at some point on our honeymoon, but the original restaurant we visited was packed. We were hungry, so thankfully there was no wait at Il Latini. Coincidentally we sat next to another couple on their honeymoon, and they raved about the Florentine steak. We made the mistake of starting with a salami and cheese platter (and wine) because we were hungry and didn't realize how big the steak would be. The steak was amazing (and huge!!) especially with the side of sea salt. Not the best I've ever had, contrary to what the other guy claimed, but I'd still do it again. While the wine flowed, the wait staff found out we were on our honeymoon and struck up conversation. I'm pretty sure they were taking bets on whether or not we'd finish the steak... And that amused me. I had such a blast sharing photos of our wedding and husky puppy. They made us feel at home in the restaurant. It was our one true Italian meal where we stayed until Il Latini closed. When I think of Florence, I'll always remember this experience. We first visited Il Latini 16 years ago and were looking forward to sharing that memorable and amazing meal with our teens during our trip to Florance...and I wish we had never gone back. In 2007 the meal was one of the best of my lives. We sat at a table with another couple (and a dog) and had impeccable service. It was a memorable and amazing meal back then, the steak...salty and flavorful and the white beans! OMG the beans -- I had never tasted beans so good in my life. But in 2023, the service was rushed and rude, the meat was dry & chewy, the beans were not even salted, just white beans on a white plate.
