We sat in the back room, and our only stipulations were we wanted to try the T-bone steak. K got roasted rabbit. We ordered a bottle of the house Chianti. We feasted on appetizers, perfect medium rare Fiorentina steak (the size of my head), rabbit (the size of a pork tenderloin), and desserts. It was like we were at a friend's family house where food just kept coming out. You say you are full but you can't help eating so much delicious food! Prosciutto wrapped in melons, pasta dishes while the Chianti kept flowing. It was like being in a paradise! Florentine steak!!!! That's all you need to know. Reserve a table or end up waiting in line. Luckily we got there before it opened and called for a table as we were walking there and got seated when it opened! But wow I don't even know how to describe their steak cause it was just so good. You have to try it. We also got the Tuscan styled soup because we're in Tuscany so obvi you gotta try it. It was super plain and no flavor but was much better after we sprinkled salt on it. 4.5 stars I. Can't. Eat. Anymore. I'm talking "roll me out of here in a wheelbarrow, wear your sweatpants, opening the belt not just one notch, but three!" type of fullness. Yes, it's VERY touristy, they don't have a menu so you don't know what you're getting until you sit down for dinner AND you'll be seated with complete strangers (who else enjoys this when traveling? I do!) but believe me, the experience is worth it. Make sure to call or email them for a reservation as there are only two seatings for the night, one at 7:30pm and another at 9:30pm. The food is well prepared and comes out in HUGE quantities. The waiters are friendly, speak flawless English and all around, very efficient. When you sit down, help yourself to unlimited bread and Chianti. That's right. Wine flows here like water. We didn't think we'd finish the 2 liter bottle of Chianti in no time, but we did. The antipasti soon comes out after pleasantries, we got prosciutto and melon, chicken liver crostini and a bean salad. After that, they'll ask you whether you want beef ravioli or gnocchi with rabbit. (OMG!) Then, you'll be presented with the biggest steak in your life! I asked for it to be cooked medium rare, but it was REALLY pink when it came out, and for a millisecond, I thought I should send this back. But, I cut it with my knife and dare I say, it needed no chewing at all. Super tender, flavorful and they put this light gravy sauce on it that's like MAGIC. Also, the steak is as big as my head! After that you think, oh I'm full. But the show must go on. They give you dessert BEFORE the main dessert. A plate of cantucci (aka biscotti to us Americans) arrives at the table with glasses of Vin Santo. The real desserts are a simple panna cotta topped with fresh strawberries and a traditional Florentine almond cake. Both are divine! And then.....they give you more booze. We actually turned down glasses of limoncello! The check arrives to conclude your two hour meal and you're thinking, "I'm gonna be broke!" nope. Yelper Jim D. and I hit this IL Latini on the suggestion of some his Italian cousins, but realize if you're Italian it seems that when in Italy, everyone is your cousin or at least treats you such. On the night we went, IL Latini was serving guests in what seemed to be two different shifts, I think one at 7:30 and the other at 9:30. The restaurant is located on Via dei Palchetti, which though in Florence is considered as being a street, actually more in the size of an alleyway. The area is said to be safe, the surroundings historic, which they probably are but to me, somewhat creepy to walk during night hours. Having reservations at IL Latini is a must. Without them, you won't get in. Indeed there was huge crowd when we arrived waiting for the doors to open. Once you entered you are brought to a table with the seating being so close to the other tables it's almost like being seated at one big table. When I was there, they really didn't have a menu but a standard offering. However, the offerings they brought to our table were varied and more than complete. The foods are generally of meat and poultry, no seafood or fish dishes, probably as the cuisine for which Florence is noted is of meat and pasta type dishes; not fish or seafood. The first thing they gave us was a bottle of their wine which was house labeled as "IL Latini," being one of their better Tuscany regionals. As for the meal, it had everything and served in more massive quantities than any two people could possibly eat. It was like a six course meal with ribollita and pappa al pomodoro, penne strascicate in a creamed ragù, and for the main course a heaping platter of arrosto misto (roasted meats), just to name a few. Then a dessert of biscotti with vin santo and of course all of that went with all the house wine you can drink. Though they may do individual menu offerings, it seems that there standard preset meal priced at 45 Euros is the rule, but when you get it, there are no deviations from their standard preparations or the way in which it is prepared. read more

Festive atmosphere, good food, friendly service -- definitely worth a night out in Florence. NOTE: a shout out to the boys from FC Gatti Randagi for recommending this restaurant! Prosit! PROS: This is a neat place: the staff are friendly and efficient, and they encourage you to enjoy the food, drink and your fellow diners. First, the wine is omnipresent, so if you run out, just ask for more. The meat/cheese starters are good, and the melon was fresh and chilled. We opted for a variety of soups instead of the pasta option, and we were very pleased with our choice. The beef, bean and barley soup was especially tasty. We asked our waiter to pick our meats for the secondi, and he provided a well rounded and tasty selection. The veal and chicken were superb, though I'd pass on the beef and lamb next time, as these cuts of meat were of a low quality. The dessert platter wasn't for show -- they drop the whole thing off at your table . . . too much at this point in the evening, but yummy stuff. CONS: The tourists: I have met the enemy and it is us. I know Florence is a tourist town, but it was a mix of comical and disgusting to watch tourists mob the doors about 15 mins prior to opening, jockeying for entry as if this might be the last meal the restaurant serves before they close for a decade of renovations (ALL nationalities guilty in this mess). Some notes if you go: 1) get a reservation for one of the two dinner seatings, and I recommend the latter one at 2130 to avoid the mob; 2) the entrance is deceiving, as you look through the window and assume the place seats 12 people -- there are multiple rooms and this place can probably serve 150+, so the whole mob thing appears even more idiotic once you get inside; 3) if the weather is nice, sit out back in the courtyard and thank me later for this tip (smile); 4) perhaps most important, pace yourself. Went here with a larger group of friends and it was very accommodating. There is at 7:30 and 9:30 sitting so it was busy right when the restaurant opened at 7:30. Make sure to have a reservation. I got the paccheri with wild boar. I wish it was served warmer but otherwise it was very good! As a group we then split the Florentine steak. It was big so definitely recommend sharing it. read more

READ ON - DO NOT COME HERE: This steak was truly the most poorly treated piece of fine beef I have ever tasted. It said on the menu only served rare which was understandable but the steak came out cold in the center and purple! When we asked the waiter if he could put it on for longer, he called his manager over and she rudely gestured, responded condescendingly, and walked away before the conversation was over. This same manager (red hair, fair skin, with many tattoos) screamed multiple customers out of the restaurant after voicing the same concern as ours. Poor food, poor service, and most of all a management staff with 0 care at all for the customer experience of dining. The first generation of ownership after passing on has clearly left Il Latini in poor hands and has succeeded in ruining the restaurants legacy. I am so mad we paid 135 euros for one of our worst meals in Italy. Il Latini is a huge tourist trap!!! My husband, sister, and I arrived at Il Latini about 20 minutes before the restaurant opened. 10-15 other people were waiting at the door so the food must be good if a line is already forming, right? As we waited for the restaurant to open more people began to fill the street and I began to get nervous because we didn't have a reservation. The restaurant didn't appear very big from what I saw through the window so I realized we may not get a table. Meanwhile, as the crowd was getting larger, the staff was all calmly eating in the dining room and ignoring the growing crowd on the street. (They were probably secretly laughing at us for falling for their scam!) When the restaurant finally opened we managed to push our way near the front and we scored a table! At this point we are so ecstatic, but as we entered the restaurant and made our way upstairs, through the kitchen and to the outdoor patio we realized that the restaurant has about 100 tables. There was no need for us to fight for a table so we feel kind of stupid at this moment. After reading the reviews on Yelp I knew to skip the menu and allow our waiter to order for us, but I was puzzled why we were never given a menu. Our waiter stops by our table and tells us that he would bring us a family style dinner and to enjoy the bottles of wine at our table and that the meal and the wine was "all-you-can-eat/drink". At this point I don't ask for the price and no one at our table thought to ask. As we pour ourselves a glass of wine we realize that the wine is absolutely terrible. I'm not a wine snob and usually love the table wine in Italy. This wine at Il Latini is dark purple in color and tasted like rubbing alcohol. The terrible "All-you-can-drink" wine should have been our warning to leave. We realize that everyone is getting the same family style menu as the servers bring food to other tables. The "no menu" concept is starting to seem less unique and we are starting to feel like suckers. Our appetizers arrive: chicken liver pate crostini, Italian salami and prosciutto. The prosciutto is not nearly as good as the other prosciutto we ate in Florence. The salami and the crostini tasted stale and lacked the quality of the pate we had earlier that afternoon. Overall, none of the ingredients were as fresh or high quality as they should be. Our unfinished appetizers are removed from the table and we were brought out the pasta course. Another disappointment: mushy and bland. As I look around the dining room I notice that some tables (mostly younger travelers) are loving this all-you-can-eat smorgasbord, but other diners are realizing that the food isn't good. The main course was a large platter of prime rib, chicken and rabbit. All of the meat tasted like it was cooked in the same pot and I couldn't understand why the waiters brought our table enough meat for ten people. What a waste of food! At this point I just don't want to eat anymore of this terrible meal. I ask for the check and our waiter acts really odd and calls the manager over. They insist we stay for dessert and bring us an assortment of desserts, dessert wine, limoncello, and grappa. More rubbing alcohol. The only redeeming item we consumed was the almond cake. Our bill finally arrives and we realize it is 45 euros per person!!! Are you kidding me?!?! The food was terrible... why would anyone pay for all-you-can-eat bad food? I agree William - - probably one of the best in Italy! Quite the experience! Maybe they open later cause it's winter, but they opened up at 7:30pm. We were waiting outside with another couple for approx 20 min. We actually showed up at 6:20pm, but they told us to come back at 7:30 - - so we strolled around. The other couple literally waited there for the hour. But at 7:30, out of nowhere came all these locals, tourists, and taxis dropping off guests - - it was crazy!! But you're sat at a table with others; we had a table of 4 -- the other 2 were local ladies, not so friendly. But that's alright! Like the others said, there is no menu - - plate after plate, after plate after plate.... and throw in a bottle of chianti, a glass of moscato d'asti, a shot, and some coffee later... The servers give you choices though with each course - -we went with the traditional Florentine menu, and asked them for recommendations. Not experiencing Florentine steak when visiting Florence is equivalent to skipping out on the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Who would be that stupid?! I definitely did not want to miss out on this massive hunk of rare bone-in meat. Although I was excited to taste it, I didn't have high expectations as I believe anything THAT large is usually mediocre at best, and of course I was right! The steak was simply seasoned and cooked - it was apparent that the preparation lacked the attention and TLC that a more intricate cut such as filet mignon usually receives. My friend who traveled to Italy years ago said this would be the best meal of my life. Spoiler: it wasn't. Admittedly, I had my reservations going into this meal from the mixed reviews I saw on both yelp and TripAdvisor, so that may have just affected my perception of things, but I'll just tell it like I experienced: I made a reservation a couple weeks prior but when we arrived, it was clear that wasn't necessary. The place is big enough and they didn't have your name on any list, and you waited in line regardless. You told them your name and number of people and they shoo you in, same as those who didn't have reservations. You are presented a menu that is all in Italian. For the amount of tourists that come here, and as "famous" as this place is, I am shocked that they do not have an English menu...the waiters had to speed read through the menu to 75% of the room because everyone was clueless. I wanted to try ribolita, as it is a Tuscan traditional dish, and what came out looked extremely unappetizing. I actually liked it though, and scarfed it down, and the girl next to me asked what it was and ended up ordering it herself. However I noticed she did not finish more than a quarter of it - a matter of personal taste. We also had rabbit gnocchi, which was good. For entrees, we ordered beef and lamb. The lamb was broiled which made it taste like chicken ..we double checked with our waiter and he assured us it was lamb. The beef, like the Florentine steaks all around us, was PINK. I ate it anyway because my husband said it was safe to eat but I was concerned with the cheese on top (see photo)...when my cheese in America looks like that, I consider it old/starting to mold...maybe it's different in Italy?? You be the judge. For what we paid, it was not worth it. We did get biscotti and dessert wine as a "gift" and it seemed like if you spend a certain amount/get the Florentine steak, they woud give this to you. Some of the tables near us only got 2-3 dishes and I noticed they did not get this gift. I sure wish they had yelp when my family visited Italy 2 summers ago. We did our research through Lonely Planet and Rick Steve's Europe. We were looking forward to our dinner here and made sure to show up early. There were about 20 people waiting before the doors opened. A little elbowing for position to get closer to the door proved unnecessary since the place is huge. They sat us all at the same time. The rooms were charming with whole pork legs decorating the ceilings. We had a list of items to try in hand but we heeded the advice to just allow the waiter to build a meal for us. The appetizers were first. Prosciutto y melone and a couple of hot dishes. Huge portions on these family platters but we tried to hold off eating too much. Pasta dishes came next. Once again, super tasty. We soon realized most of the others around us were eating the same dishes. We had the opportunity to order off the menu and we asked the waiter to make sure the recommended dishes were included. He was really cool to deal with. He grabbed the list out of my hand and made sure we were served everything. Flava beans, check, blood sausage, check....He even joked he could get us some sushi. Platter after platter kept showing up. Our meat tray could have served 10 people. Sausages, wild boar.....just amazing. The desserts were just as good as the main courses. Cheese plates, cakes, cookies. There was a bottle of Chianti on the table that kept us lubricated and they served dessert wines as well. When it came time to pay the bill, my wife and I joked that this meal could be really really expensive. Whatever, bring it on. It was a fabulous gluttonous expedition. We figured about $100 per person. There was an old man, the owner, who walked around and consulted with the waiters while adding up the checks. He glances over at us as the waiter described all of the dishes, wine, etc. that we consumed. The total was about $60 per person. Unbelievable for the quality and volume. Went to this restaurant after we came across Giada De Laurentiis website saying this was her favorite place to get Bistecca alla fiorentina in all of Florence. A couple reviews mentioned to get the family style where you get 4-5 dishes plus the steak for 60euros. The only part we enjoyed was the unlimited house wine, prosciutto and tiramisu. We had a bad experience while in Florence at another restaurant and we didn't even have dinner. We needed some where to eat and Il Latini was down the street. We had been there about 8 years prior and remembered it being a lot of food, a fun atmosphere, and in general a good value. After our short walk we arrived where about 20-30 people spilled out onto the street trying to get the owner's attention to get a seat in the restaurant since they did not have reservations. Since we did not have reservations we managed to push our way up to the front and with the help of my wife (Lissa G) by either batting her eyes at him, or maybe just giving him the I may stab you if I don't eat soon face we finally made our way in. Moral of the story, get reservations. We were seated at a large banquet table with about 4 other couples. We remembered that the portions were huge so we tried to just order a couple things. Both their Steak Florentine and their gnocchi were still HUGE portions but satisfying. Not the best but definitely a great value. There house wine was also a value and if you are not a wine snob, house wine throughout Italy is the way to go. My absolute, most favorite, delicious, amazing restaurant on Earth. I was very nervous before I took my husband here because I have been talking up this restaurant for years - literally. So I was really hoping they would over deliver, and they absolutely did. This is the kind of place where you really want your server to guide you in your meal. Don't ask for a menu because you don't need one. Don't order wine off the list because the table wine - which is already on your table when you sit down, is delicious and perfect for everything they serve. Yes you will find this in the tourist books, but get over it - locals and visitors a like all go here for the same reason, amazing food. I saved a couple of pictures from my past visits on my cell phone, which brought us some amazing memories not only for me but the servers who were still working at the restaurant. I fun to hear about where some of the missing guys were - who had babies, went off to school, moved to San Francisco... etc and to also see that many of the same faces were still there. We told our waiter that we wanted just little tastes of everything, so he started us out with some freshly baked bread, prosciutto and melon of course, a cold barley salad, and another cured well marbled meat which you cannot see in this picture. Adam polished off not only his plate of prosciutto but almost all of mine as well and that was only Round 1. The second course was three different pasta's: Rabbit Gnocchi, traditional Tuscan style Bolognese, and a spinach and Ricotta Ravioli. My lord we were both in heaven. And we told ourselves we would not finish everything and then all the sudden the plates were licked clean. Oh well, when in Rome. Onto round three. Our third course was another melange, but this time a melange of meat - Roasted Chicken, Pork Loin and who knows what kind of steak, but it was red meat and it was drizzled with this amazing brown sauce that I could drink with a straw. But it didn't stop there - they then placed on the table fried Zucchini Flowers (love!) and roasted potatoes that when you placed them in your mouth you just melted, literally, like butter. I don't know how they got the potatoes so crispy on the outside and absolutely perfect on the inside with just the right amount of salinity but next time I go back I am volunteering in the kitchen. Just when you thought you couldn't put another thing in your mouth, all of the plates were removed, new silverware was put in its place, and three different desserts landed on the table. My favorite are their biscotti cookies, which are complimentary and cooked in house. Now mind you, during this entire process Adam and I have also polished off almost two bottles of the house red wine and now glasses of Moscato and Champagne are being placed in front of us, and repeatedly refilled as they pass in front of the table. There was no way we were going home after this meal, so Adam and I hit the streets of Florence for an impromptu walking tour where I attempted to remember everything I had learned over 8 years ago during my study abroad. I think the thrill for me with this place is the experience. Huge bottle of Chianti to enjoy as much as you wish. Seating with random couples when they are very busy (most of the time), otherwise you can enjoy your own table (rare). No need to think, they bring it all to you with a few options for you to choose for the primi and secondi, then they bring you the desert wine & cantucci with vin santo at the end. All things seem to be decided for you, which as a tourist may be what you need to try something new or to truly understand the level to which Italians eat & enjoy the wonders of a full meal here. We had a very nice casual dinner where we just strolled in and were able to get a small table for 2. The crostini are to die for and the best in Florence, hands down. Trust me on this - the toasts are grilled with ample quantities of butter, then topped with piping hot and not at all "liver"-tasting chicken liver. YUM. I could have had 10 more! We skipped primo, and ordered the roasted rabbit and filet. Filet was very delicious, perhaps a bit too burnt on the outside for my taste. Was in Firenze for only night with my Neapolitan friend and we had the pleasure of dining at Il Latina. Literally everything about this restaurant was above 5 stars and molto buono!! Located in a perfect area away from the craziness and yet close to the bridge so you can watch the sunset before dinner. The restaurant has a very rustic, warm and welcoming atmosphere. We chose the family style meal and it didn't disappoint!! The meal comes with as much vino as you can drink. We had the most wonderful waiter who happened to also be Neapolitan but the wine prevents me from remembering his name. It was way too much food and my favorite dishes were the pasta and the ginormous steak that I was only able to have a few bites of because I was beyond full. This place was recommended by hotel staff in Rome. Its a little hidden but those are always the best places for food. I got the Tomato and Bread soup, really good especially on a cold night. A bottle of Mansanto Chianti Classico, very yummy. The Roast Pork, which was so damn good I almost caused an international incident. The flavour, the au jus it was basted in. The Roasted Potatoes are a must, flavourful just like the Roast Pork. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff was very kind. Carnivores rejoice, vegetarians may want to go on a meat bender for the night. A friend recommended this place and I'm really glad we went. Definitely make reservations because even with a reservation it was a stampede at 7:30 when the doors opened. We had to fight our way to the front to make sure we got seated. I love steak and ordered their signature 1 kg (35 ounces) T-bone. It was very impressive looking and very tasty, I highly recommend it and it is plenty for two people. I attempted eating the whole thing myself because I am traveling with my daughter who is a vegetarian. I think i made it through 2/3rds of it. If you are a steak lover I don't recommend this steak. The thickness is just too much. I honestly had a very challenging time using the knives to cut this beast and even after trying another set it was still too hard. The challenge is if you cut a piece too thick it's very challenging to swallow something like that. I also was not a fan of the seasoning salt - it's not consistent at all which means you get some pieces with salt and some without. They need kosher salt to properly let people season their steaks. The char on the steak was ok and the flavor was just ok. Honestly not impressed by this or even would get again. Keep also in mind that I do make my own steaks at home and know what a great steak should taste like and this idea of serving tourists a big hunk of beef seems more of a gimmick or an idea to lure people in. The flavor was just not there. The roasted potatoes were great but the grilled veggies were again not seasoned and just ok at best. We also got a panna cotta and it tasted like it was made a while ago. I wish they had placed some fresh fruit on it instead of just some syrup. We got some kind of cookies at the end and again just ok. If you want a huge steak and pay around 90-100 euros and don't know how to do it - sure come get it. I would rather go to a butcher and get the right thickness (1") and make it myself and actually use a knife that works. We also got a jamon and melon and the jamon was completely dried out. Wow! What an experience, my husband and I came here for our honeymoon a while back and we had to be almost rolled out of the restaurant. So many good appetizers, entrees, dessert and wine. We had the option where they bring out 7 or so courses paired with wine, limoncello, aperitifo. We want to come back to Italy just to come here. The waiters were awesome and the table wine was amazing. The Florentine steak, huge! Highly recommend stopping here if you're in town, the line was long but didn't take as long as it looked to get a seat. read more

If you're in a part of the city where you can manage to walk to this tucked-away gem, do it. This was the first restaurant we dined at in Italy and the ambiance immediately struck a quaint, Italian feel. They have the cured meats hanging from the ceiling and the patronage is a mix of savvy tourists and locals. We ordered a 35 euro wine bottle of Chianti region, a pasta sampler, and roast lamb. The pasta gave a reason for al dente style, as the taste of the pasta itself shone rather than just a vehicle for the sauce. The lamb was sumptuous and tender and a very generous portion. Frankly it was an amazing dinner, better than I've had out in a long time. Other notes: -Be careful if you order a sampler for two as they charge you the price twice -I am sad I do not have a picture of the lamb. If you like MEAT, you will absolutely love this place. If you come to Florence you must eat here. Make a reservation before you even come to Italy! We dined outside and had the prefix menu. My oh my what a delight. For 90euros total I felt this meal was worth twice that! A bottle of house wine included to start. First course: Slices of prosciutto with melon and pate. Second: 3 types of pasta. First off, this place give you HUGE proportions. Do not eat here unless you are starving, because you will be gorged by the end of the meal. The first thing they give you is an appetizer platter of crostinis, prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, and wild boar sausage. Everything on that platter was amazing and fresh! We ordered a mix of meats, since we couldn't decided what we wanted. The mix meats wasn't even on the menu, but they suggested it for us. The chicken, rabbit, and pork were a bit dry. The veal and lamb were good. The steak would have been better if they cooked it medium rare rather than medium (they seem to cook their steaks at medium, based on reading other yelpers). If I ordered again, I would go for the veal, lamb, or steak (if they cooked it medium rare). The amount of meat they gave us was beyond generous. Even for three people, it was still too much. On top of it, they offered us free biscottis with honey and a dessert wine for free. I could barely consume it, but they were nice touches. Compared to other places, the restaurant is pretty roomy. This is a 4 dollar sign joint and lived up to it. My wife and I went and ordered 2 family style meal sets. Fair warning, without any add ons that was 120 euro. It came with about 5 courses of incredible food including a 1.2 kilo steak, 4 pasta dishes, a mixed meat and cheese plate, melon, rolls, tomato salad, 3 desserts, unlimited wine, water, cafe, and probably things I'm forgetting. The food was amazing. The waiters were very attentive and served us on our pace of eating. Well worth it for an exceptional meal. Get a reservation before you go. An amazing place for a steak! I was going to be in Florence for one evening so there was no way that I would not have a bistecca a la Fiorentina. The waiter mentioned it would be a 20 minute wait and recommended rabbit gnocchi as a starter. I took the recommendation - tasty and well cooked. And then the steak came. I was going to share this and all we were offered to cut it were a spoon and fork. I was very surpised that I effortlessly cut it with the spoon.
