Was starving for meat and in this hill billy, farmer , horse breeding town ... you're not going to get ANY sophistication, Just the "hard" truth, don't mess with a steak ! My steak was medium rare... should have ordered it medium. This community likes it "rare". Don't push them. They will tell you like it is ! Lol For $33.00 for steak dinner including two ( 2 ) sides that's one hell of a deal. We're not in a Las Vegas casino ! Also, if you can... I recommend that you bring your own steak knives. You can barely cut the meat with the knife they provide. Are they afraid people are going to get violent during dinner...? Maybe rip their masks off and have a knife fight at the table ?? Who Knows. But their steak knives need a replacement. If you dead set on meat... I recommend the braised ribs. My filet was okay... but there was a lot of gristle in it. Which I cannot stand. But remember ( ! ) the price folks. You get what you pay for they say ! Get the Braised Rib dish for $25.00 that simply falls off the bone. Much better deal and easier to eat. Apparently the senior citizens got the memo from the restaurant about the "value deal meal" and it seems that 99 % of the patrons are 65 and over. What am I doing here anyway ! read more

The service was the most outstanding part of this dining experience. We arrived to doors being held open and a friendly waiter in the bar area. It was a cozy, but older decor restaurant. There weren't many diners in the restaurant. We ordered the shrimp and grits. They were pretty saucy. There were many shrimp, which was nice, but the overall dish was just pretty mediocre. Excellent Restaurant! We have been in Ocala for 6 weeks, and we have been struggling to find good restaurants that are not chains. Success last night! We started with the Onion fritters which were amazing, and not to be missed. I had the Eggplant rollatini, which was cooked perfectly, Eggplant tender and thin. My Hubby had the Wagu steak frites with truffle fries. Flavorful, tender and the best steak he ever had. for desert was the bread pudding, which had a hint of a creme brule taste it was absolutely amazing! Al had the fried cheese cake, so delicious! cound not say which one was better, but we will be back to sample more! Portions were very impressive, nothing to complain about there. Everything was timed perfectly and at the correct temp. Our server, Allision was perfect. The right amount of friendly, while getting the job done. Very personable and helpful. Friday evening I order and the lady that I spoke with told me that they closed at nine. I told her I would be there by then I picked up my order pay for it and came home much to my dismay. soup their pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes and green beans when I got home, everything was in there but the pork tenderloin with missing I picked it up right at nine, so I knew they were already closed the next morning. I called just to let them know and I got a recording telling me to leave my name and number and they get back with me. four or 5 o'clock that evening I still have not heard from them so I called back again and the young lady that I spoke with if she could help I explained what happened, after that she became very rude... I called it a pork chop instead of a tenderloin and she said sir we do not have pork chop. And I told her on the menu I think it's called a tenderloin, OK we do have that. And what do you want us to do about That? I said nothing really... I'll have the manager call you that's been three days ago and I have yet to hear from anyone. The staff was unprofessional and not nicely dressed, dirty apron on our server. She was abrupt and really didn't come back to our table. Asked if we need anything on her walk by to the kitchen. Overall, would have to think twice before returning. Too expensive to not have top notch service and food consistently prepared. 1/2023: Four of us for late lunch yesterday at 2:30pm. 5 stars across the board! Our waitress was lovely, service was great, and the food was fantastic. Everything is made from scratch! Every single plate was absolutely delicious and you can tell LOVE was put into each recipe. The Old Fashioned was perfectly mixed. Coconut shrimp were fried to perfection. French onion soup was piping hot and incredibly flavorful. Liver and onions reminded my boyfriend of home and was the most delicious he has ever gotten from a restaurant. Short rib stroganoff was *chef's kiss* to die for. And the berry cobbler was delicious, though I would have enjoyed a bit more "cobbler" with all the berries. Super reasonable prices. This has become a Must Stop every time we are traveling between North Carolina and our home in Florida. Instead of dreading lunch on a traveling day, we look forward to stopping at the Braised Onion. Since we only get to eat here a few times a year, we always get the same thing-- Lobster Bisque, a half berry salad with chocolate balsamic dressing and the short rib beef stroganoff. There could be no more perfect meal. Sorry the picture is not so pretty-- I was mid-meal when I took it. And the bonus is we save half our stroganoffs for dinner, so gourmet meal when we get home with no need to cook. All of the food here is beyond delicious and we only wished we lived closer. Highly recommend Lunch or dinner at Braised Onion. It's worth going just a little out of the way for and the rest of your day will be all the better for doing so. read more

Attended a meeting of business persons to get updated on things going on with them, and we all ordered a meal. The service was spot on, with drinks showing up first. We were in a separate room, but could see the rest of the restaurant, which was not too crowded. The meals showed up promptly and hot and tasty. No one uttered a bad word about any meal. I CANNOT wait to go back soon! We were greeted enthusiastically and sat darn near immediately even though we were 15 minutes late for our reservation on a Saturday evening. We were seated in the bar section at a regular booth/table with Allison. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I was miffed at this table on a Saturday date night. But you know what, it was the best seat in the house. Allison was perfect in her timing of stopping by the table to check in us. She also suggested new cocktails with our chosen core spirit as the original choice which was spot on. She made the evening 5 stars. Also, sitting here gave us a great view of the restaurant, impeccable service from our server and regular checking in visually from the Maitre d. It was a lovely experience from a service standpoint. I ordered the French onion and the onion fritters to start with a seasonal martini and a classic old fashion. The bf said the old fashion was one of the best he has had. The Washington appletini I ordered was delicious and not too sweet. The onion fritters were the very tasty but were the low point of the gastronomic delight of an evening. They were a bit greasy and neither sauce was 'wowing'. However, in a group, I'd order them again because the order was plentiful and my complaint minor. The onion soup had broth created by Satan's own hand it was so decadently delicious. Truly an epicurean delight of sautéed onions and plenty of melty cheese. The crostini were lovely minus a few burnt ends that gave a acidic note to the soup. As a French onion aficionado, I mentioned this to the manager who said that was abnormal and he would speak to the chef. I subtracted a 1/2 star for execution but dang.. that melty cheese to onion to broth ratio quickly won me back over. We ordered the Short Rib with parmigiana risotto and asparagus and the house special prime rib with garlic roasted mashed potatoes and asparagus for entrees. Both were absolutely true perfection and a very generous portion. We ordered a bottle of Chianti for dinner and it was slightly more than 2x the price retail which I note but don't resent. For the food quality and execution, it's ok they made a smidge more on the wine from me than normal. For desert we had the chocolate crème' brûlée which was easily the best I've had in the fridge-county area. (I'd come back for the soup and creme brûlée alone.) and the banana pudding cheesecake (sitting in my fridge for tomorrows breakfast with espresso) looks scrumptious too. Overall, I enjoyed every moment. As a bonus, check out the awesome LARGE Chihuly baskets displayed beautifully on the walls throughout the restaurant. Take note, these pieces are as special as the food and deserve an honest reflection as you savor your meal. I cannot wait to return soon. One of the worst meals I've had in Ocala. I ordered mahi with potato and asparagus. The vegetables were fine but the fish was absolutely hammered - very thin, tough and chewy. It was served drowning in a yellow, tasteless gloop of what was supposed to be beurre blanc. My daughter had a filet mignon. She ordered rare, but the very thin filet (slightly thicker than the fish) arrived a very unevenly cooked medium. She upgraded her sides ($3 upcharge for each, bringing her entree total to about $50) - she enjoyed the truffle Mac and cheese (not a hint of truffles) but the truffled fries were a soggy pile of mush. They did, however, taste like truffles. After sending back the fries, they were replaced with a fresh, crisp order. Unfortunately, our waiter didn't didn't check on us until we were more than 1/2 way finished with our meals, so we ate them while ordering dessert (yes, I am a glutton for punishment.) We took home a piece of coconut cream pie. Other than the copious amount of flaked coconut on top, it was just an overly sweet filling of indiscernible flavor. We arrived on a Sunday night around 7:30 after traveling all day. We waited about 5-10 minutes to be seated (no reservation) and it took a little longer than I'm accustomed to for our food to arrive. (I don't come looking for trouble so I didn't set my watch ) Our waiter is probably a very good server but it was the end of his shift and his mind may have been elsewhere. I asked for the wine list, twice. I ordered the same glass of wine, twice. My daughter ordered Diet Coke, twice. Maybe just an off night for him. My white wine blend, Conundrum, was good and only $9.50 - which is less than I pay elsewhere. All in all, the meal reminded me of food you'd receive at a catered hotel convention banquet when you have to choose between the meat or the fish. Ok, I lived in Ocala for a year now and found my favorite restaurant. Michael was so warm and welcoming as he greeted us. The appetizer garlic bread was addictive (I could have eaten the entire basket myself) but I wanted to have room for the short rib stroganoff. My hubby ordered the chicken parmigiana.
