On our ongoing search for breakfast joints after our early Sunday morning church service, my wife and I have sampled a long list of restaurants in Ocala but have yet to check out Golden Spoon. We've seen Golden Spoon before when we ate at Milano's next door (very good Italian joint, BTW) but thought, with a name like that, it must be some Chinese place. Lo and behold, it's like a mom and pop diner. When we walked in we were surprised at how spacious it is inside. We were seated in a booth with seat cushions showing some wear and tear but comfy nonetheless. We were presented the menu and my wife ordered coffee as we perused our options. My wife ordered the Southern Eggs (2 eggs over sausage patties on grilled biscuits with gravy) with hash browns and I tried their Mama's biscuits (2 over medium eggs over fried chicken on biscuits and gravy) with house potatoes. I was intrigued by the eggs over fried chicken and our server said it's one of their more popular offerings. When our orders arrived, we realized we wouldn't be able to finish them. Those portions were quite generous! My wife liked the flavors and appreciated the toasted biscuits that stood up to the gravy. She also thought the gravy was flavorful. She wished the hash browns were crispier though. My dish was good. The eggs were cooked to my liking and the fried chicken was tender. I also wished the house potatoes were crisped up a bit but it had decent flavors. Generous portions and good value! Service was a bit spotty at times with our server disappearing for a spell. All in all, we liked the experience and will likely be back. Breakfast for 2 with tip came out to $38. We paid cash to avoid the 4% surcharge for credit card usage. read more

Service was outstanding! We ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and the gyro, and both were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. It was not very busy during our visit, but our waitress, I believe her name was Katie, was extremely attentive, professional, and friendly. Thank you, Katie! I have to say, this was the best cheesesteak I've had in Florida and trust me, I've had authentic Philly cheesesteaks up north. Of course, nothing compares exactly to the original, but this was seriously impressive and incredibly satisfying. The gyro was also delicious. Maybe it could have been heated just a bit more, but honestly, it was still so good that I happily enjoyed every bite exactly as it was served. The light music in the background created a very relaxing and family friendly atmosphere. This is definitely a place that would make for a great outing with family and friends. Went with a large group on a Sunday brunch time. Our order arrived without much wait. Everything was correct, and quite good. Blueberry pancakes and biscuits were great. Sausage gravy was a bit bland, but poached eggs were prepared just right. No iced coffee which was . I will come back for lunch or dinner for sure. read more

We took friends here during Thanksgiving weekend, and it wasn't too busy around 10 a.m. Our server was attentive and kept our coffee and drinks topped off. We tried the chicken and waffles--delicious and generous enough to share. We ordered three of the same plate; unfortunately, one of the chicken portions was overcooked, but we didn't send it back. My friend and I chose to drive up and try a new breakfast place and it did not disappoint, we ordered a few selections to taste, a couple omelets, some pancakes (I got mine with some fruit) and some poutine with brown gravy, as you can see in the pics. Restaurant owner permits pets to roam freely and climb on tables, despite causing disturbances. When questioned, she justified it by stating the animal has papers claiming it's a service dog. However, the Chihuahua's behavior suggested otherwise. The incident occurred between 1:50-2:05 pm on 5/24/26. As the animal wasn't performing any specific tasks and was disrupting other diners' meals, According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are required to remain on the floor or be held by their handler, without occupying seats or blocking aisles. Owner was very dismissive saying she did not see anything (of course you did not, she was back in the kitchen) and move the lady and her dog to another table and walked away. Stating the lady has been in multiple times and the business has permitted her dog to sit in the booth at the table unleashed. read more

When I walked into Golden spoon the first thing I noticed was a change in the chairs. The old chairs have been replaced. Did give it a nicer touch. My husband ordered the club sandwich with fries and he enjoyed it very much. I ordered the catfish dinner, but I did notice that the catfish was a little different than it used to be. It was still very good though. I had a baked potato with it and onion rings. The baked potato could I used cooking couple more minutes but it was still okay. The onion rings were good but a little greasy. Hush puppies was a little well done. I did enjoy the fish and the tea. Ana was a delight to have as a server. She did a wonderful job and made sure that our glasses never were empty. ​ If I had not had the problems with my side dishes that came with a catfish I would have gave them a five star because the service was on point. I hope to see and improvement in the other things the next time I go. Notice the restroom was nice and clean too. When we did get apple pie with ice cream for dessert and it was delicious. I came here at 8:30 AM on a Saturday morning. It's in the shopping center with Milano express takeout and Publix. I was asked to wait at the counter to be seated, and after a few minutes another waitress came up and asked me what I wanted and I told her I wanted to eat and I was told to wait. She reply to just have a seat anywhere. I was handed the menu and asked for coffee. I have to say the coffee was nice and hot and very good coffee for diner coffee. I decided to go with the western omelette which had ham, peppers, onions and cheddar cheese, I asked for them to substitute American and that was perfectly fine. Their home fried potatoes are on the skillet and not deep fried, I got them and lightly toasted rye bread. The food was out pretty quickly, and the omelette itself was made more in the fashion of a crêpe and then rolled up so it was thin eggs with the stuff mixed in with it. My issue was the cheese was only in certain parts of the omelette, so not every bite of the omelette had cheese. Also parts of the omelette Very well done. But the way they rolled it, the burnt part was in the middle so you didn't see it until you but into it. I also asked when I placed my order to please have a glass of water when she brought the food. She did not bring me my water, nor did she check up on me after she delivered the food. The potatoes would have most likely been good,but they tasted like they were made yesterday. They definitely were not fresh and crispy. For the omelette and a cup of coffee came to $16 for one person. This is in a Publix shopping center because the maps looks like it's putting you at a campus Bank. But that's not the case, follow the map. read more

Used to be a good place but not anymore. We will never come back. Told us to sit anywhere we like and then ignored us. Other people came in 10 minutes after we sat down, were handed a menu before sitting, brought coffee and order taken all while we sat waiting. Tables got cleaned off, to go cups were provided for those leaving but the entire time no one ever came to the table. I made sure to speak very loudly on the way out the door to find another place that actually wants to serve their customers, how it might be a good place yo eat if you could get service. Had a homemade meatloaf dinner it was fantastic. You can get it with brown gravy or a marinara. I got brown gravy, mashed potatoes, okra, and some coleslaw. Our first time eating here, and the food was pretty darn good. My husband and I shared the chicken fried steak with sweet potato fries and onion rings as sides. The CFS was crispy and flavorful (me) (husband not impressed) and the normal white gravy from a can. The sweet potato fries were delicious and husband really enjoyed his onion rings. My disappointment came from the lack of cleanliness. I asked for an additional plate which took almost 5 minutes to get and the one I was handed was dirty! I politely pointed this out to Katie our server, which she promptly replaced. The air vents were full of dirt/dust, the bathroom needed some cleaning performed, and most of the tables were dirty. I watched a server knock the salt shaker off the table to the floor and she just put it back on the table without even wiping it off (cleaning cloth was in her hand)! We will try eating here again and hopefully we just hit them on an off day. We really like to support local businesses. read more

Reminds me of Cheers, a place where you everybody knows your name. It's obvious many loyal customers return and staff treat them like family. Had the opportunity for breakfast and it was delightful. Ok this place has gone thru some tremendous upgrades over the last few years. And we love it! Clean dining room. Very satisfying breakfast meal. We had the steak omelette as well as basic egg and sausage breakfast. Both were pleasing and satisfying. Coffee is better than expected for a diner and their menu should satisfy every discerning person. The service was not pushy which honestly was quite pleasing as we didn't feel rushed. Start the day off relaxed. After all, this is a retirement community and what's your rush? We've seen reviews that complain about the slow service but get over it. The staff was very friendly. The decor was a mix of trying to be trendy and then just a single room of standard tables and chairs. BTW, let's use a cleaner where the menus don't stick to the table top! I ordered the meat load dinner... pretty standard for a diner. My meatloaf was very "watery". I believe when they reheated the portion, it was either microwaved or over watered/steamed on the flat top. The 2nd of two pieces was in pieces... not a good presentation. The mashed potatoes were overworked pile of gluten topped with a gelatinous blob of brown gravy. I've had better at hospitals as a patient. The steamed broccoli was cooked with proper time and great color, but lacked any seasoning... even salt and pepper. Will give this place one more try and update a review, but I'm not holding my breath on any improvements. read more

I'm happy to report that they cook their eggs in butter! I'd you're trying to stay away from the unhealthy seed oil, know they got you covered with their eggs. I can't report on how they fry anything else. The staff was helpful. I did wish they put on some music since the ambiance is more of a cafeteria style room. Home fries with onions on the side. Eggs Benedict and nice English muffins, hash browns and a side of sausage. Coffee to wash it down. Overall was a very good experience and meal. I think there is a new cook in the back food was always good and we always go on Sunday but this day was awful. I've never had to take the time to pick trash out of my food probably just stuff off the grill but who wants onions with their pancakes I sent it back no extra butter on anything they don't have whip butter got little frozen butters just things changing that's not good for it to be a Sunday, Lotta Lotta, dirty tables and people waiting no one there to clean the tables and I noticed I was not the only one complaining about food, and the real kicker was afterwards. 6pm on a Saturday night. Greeted when we walked through the door. Told to take a seat and someone would be with us shortly. Sat at a dirty table for 10 minutes and heard others complaining about the service or lack there of. Decided to leave. Called back and there was no manager available to speak with. Was told that a "lead" would come to the phone and speak with me. After 5 minutes of listening to kitchen workers and noise in the background hung up the phone. Sad thing is we have had a great time there the last two time we have gone. Sad that a few shitty service people had to ruin it for us and the other sitting in the restaurant. My husband and I ordered from here thru door dash because we heard great things however we did not get our Prime Rib sandwich. I called with door dasher here and the young lady that answered the phone said they did not have prime rib in a long time and did not know when they would have it even though it is still on the menu! She took my number and said she would have owner call me! It has now been over an hour and still NO CALL! This is very unprofessional and VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
