    an omelet and potatoes
    Christine H.

My daughter and I ate here this morning. I loved the prices and the size of the portions were incredible (we took stuff home). My daughter got the waffle and I got a half order of biscuits and gravy with a veggie omelet. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy and always love the diner feel. The waitress was attentive and would come around and fill my coffee up right when I needed a refill without asking. The diner was not overly busy and we were seated appropriately. Definitely coming back

It is busy this morning... #Veterans Day being celebrated by families, friends & single males. I chose Darrell's due to seeing #OcalaPD & #MarionCounty #Sheriff vehicles parked outside, on my way elsewhere. and Darrell's is also a 'stone's throw away' from one of the most honest mechanics I've met in my lifetime @ O'Brien's. 5 Stars to Heidi... excellent service, attitude, menu knowledge! Thanks for giving me the 'heads up' to the local's breakfast specials! 5 Stars for having a good breakfast menu from which to choose & REAL BUTTER! 5 Stars for having a pancake option instead of toast !2 Stars for the Scrambled Eggs with Chhese. 2 Stars for the Grits... sorry, it just tastes a bit under-cooked & 'off'. 0 Stars for what tasted like CheezWiz on the eggs...

This is for the diner in Silver Spring Shores. Took the grand babies to Darrell's Diner in the Shores. They were so patient and good with the kids. Thank you for understanding what kids need.

A diner counter. Check! An open kitchen. Check! Quick service waitresses. Check! Typical diner menu. Check! I'm just waiting for Flo to come around the corner! You can't get more of a truer diner type restaurant in town. It's filled with regulars that the servers call by name. Everyone's friendly and the food comes out quickly. The coffee mugs stay full and the servers grab the food as soon as the order's up. The kitchen staff has their routine down pat and work like a well oiled machine. Prices are reasonable and the food is great. What more could you want. Oh yeah. Early birds! Get here before 11am for their special pricing.

Mountain Scramble (over-medium eggs instead of scrambled). Eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and a little cheese.

You never know what quality you're gonna get when you walk into a local diner. I planned on just getting some easy eggs and toast, something warm after a night of camping, but for some reason the biscuits and gravy called to me. I'm not sure why, my biscuit and gravy experience is full of bland gravy and dry biscuits, but something told me to take a chance. I ordered the Mountain Scramble, but with my eggs over-medium bc I love the runny yolk. WOW. The biscuits were moist and flavorful, the gravy was tasty and the consistency was perfection. The sausage was yummy. The eggs were cooked just right, with the whites fully cooked and the yolk creamy. Even the hash browns were perfect, crispy surface and soft inside. I'm so stunned at how this meal completely surpassed my expectations. I'll be in the area for a few days; maybe I'll come back for dinner one night and see if I can be pleasantly surprised again. Also, staff was very friendly, and service was great. (Noon on a Friday)

Breakfast, a quick tattoo and a haircut. Life can't get much better.

As a visitor to Ocala, I was invited by my sister to go out for breakfast. After entering the diner, we seated ourselves and were quickly approached by a cheerful server. We just ordered pretty standard fare......eggs, corn beef hash, potatoes and toast. The food was hot, good flavor and served promptly. Darrell's has easy parking directly in front of the diner. The inside is clean and not crowded between customers. If you come a little later in the morning, there could be time for you to get both a tattoo and a haircut at adjacent stores. My guess is that most folks will be completely satisfied with a visit to Darrell's Dog Gone Diner.

Now owned by the proprietors of Scrambles, we're glad they kept the iconic name even if there's a new menu. We drove in and parked in the back where there are stairs leading you to a back entrance. We were immediately seated in a booth along Silver Springs Blvd./Hwy 40 and noticed how good the sound insulation was. The place looked clean and new, and our server, who worked for the original Wolfy's for 14 years, acknowledged that the place needed some refurbishing. After looking at the menu, my wife ordered the Southwest Avocado omelet with hash browns ($13.39) (they didn't have grilled potatoes because they were closed for the 4th of July our server informed us) and I tried their Eggs Benedict Arnold with hash browns ($13.29). My wife also ordered coffee. My wife loved her omelet commenting how fluffy the eggs were and how flavorful the sausage, fire roasted corn and black beans were. She also liked the fresh lime cream and avocado slices topping the omelet. The hash browns were meh. My eggs Benedict were good. While the hollandaise sauce tasted good, it didn't look as creamy as the better sauces I've had. The hash browns were not hot and didn't seem freshly prepared...it was our least favorite part of our breakfast. All in all, a good dining experience, although we'll avoid the disappointing hash browns the next time we visit. Breakfast for 2, with tip, came out to just over $37.

Tonight was "trivia night", which, while we didn't play, we did enjoy trying to guess the answers. Our grand daughter's face was a big "O" of amazement when realizing the upper tables were enjoying roasting their marshmallows at their table...when she was told they were making s'mores...she went nuts! She's so excited to get tableside s'mores! My wings were even better than they were last time since there was an addition of seasonings sprinkled on them along with the dill pickles, but unfortunately, our cheeseburger pizza suffered from not having enough mustard and ketchup base to it, the tomatoes were enormous chunks and so were red onions. It made it very difficult to eat without things falling all over your clothing since they were such huge chunks on top of the tiny pieces of pizza. My husband got the steak bomb sub, son got a pepperoni Stromboli, daughter in law got the Sharon's Brie burger, grand daughter the child's cheeseburger and fries. Our apps were the garlic knots, mild wings (10) and fried cheese curds with sriracha ranch dipping sauce. Everything was okay, except that it took forever for everything to come out, compared to our first visit. Even our s'mores seemed to take forever. The quickest part of the whole visit was the bill . The fella that waited on us the first time was on point. Not saying that the young lady waiting on us was rude or anything, but I think she was trying to do too many things at once and some things just fell by the wayside. Last visit we came in on a Saturday as well, but perhaps some people are just better at multitasking? I don't know. This time, our bill was over $200 with tip, but we still brought home food again. Not a lot compared to the last time, only 2 little pickle wings (I still can't get enough of those darn things!) and maybe 4 slices of pizza. My husband's loaded tots weren't to his liking, so there's something even for the dog tomorrow We may stay away for awhile and see if they manage to work out some kinks. If anything, the best rule is consistency. If the food preparation is not consistent every time you go to eat there, there's a problem. There should be NO deviation just because someone else is cooking it. All recipes should be the same. Twice we've ordered the same items and they've been different. I still recommend this place for great vibes, cocktails, food and the tableside s'mores. There's just nowhere else like it!

I would definitely go back again.

We figured, why not try it and enjoy the town square as well. Well...this place is not really located on the square...not even square adjacent. More like two blocks away from the square. I suppose Diner Two Blocks from the Square would be a mouthful. In any case, we were surprised to see how roomy the place was and quite busy on a Sunday morning. We were seated promptly and perused the menu. We ordered some coffee before placing our breakfast orders. We both ordered an omelet with my wife opting for the Tennessee Pride Sausage and cheese with fried potatoes and a biscuit. I ordered the Hickory Smoked Bacon and Cheese omelet with fried potatoes and wheat toast. Coffee was good and our friendly server, who told us this placed used to be Richard's Place that opened in 1984 before becoming Diner on the Square 6 years ago, was on it with refills. We both liked omelets...my wife liked the sausage and I liked the crispy bacon. Our server who has been working here for 36 years told my wife the biscuits are freshly made and my wife liked their biscuits. We both thought the potatoes were just OK and benefited from added salt and pepper...and some pieces were a bit underdone. All in all, a good breakfast place that regular diners seem to patronize as some of them knew and were known by our server. Breakfast for 2 came out to just under $36 with tip.

We've seen Golden Spoon before when we ate at Milano's next door (very good Italian joint, BTW) but thought, with a name like that, it must be some Chinese place. We were seated in a booth with seat cushions showing some wear and tear but comfy nonetheless. We were presented the menu and my wife ordered coffee as we perused our options. My wife ordered the Southern Eggs (2 eggs over sausage patties on grilled biscuits with gravy) with hash browns and I tried their Mama's biscuits (2 over medium eggs over fried chicken on biscuits and gravy) with house potatoes. I was intrigued by the eggs over fried chicken and our server said it's one of their more popular offerings. When our orders arrived, we realized we wouldn't be able to finish them. Those portions were quite generous! My wife liked the flavors and appreciated the toasted biscuits that stood up to the gravy. She also thought the gravy was flavorful. She wished the hash browns were crispier though. My dish was good. The eggs were cooked to my liking and the fried chicken was tender. I also wished the house potatoes were crisped up a bit but it had decent flavors. Generous portions and good value! Service was a bit spotty at times with our server disappearing for a spell. All in all, we liked the experience and will likely be back. Breakfast for 2 with tip came out to $38. We paid cash to avoid the 4% surcharge for credit card usage.
