I now remember why I had previously decided I would NEVER come to this restaurant again. 11:30 on a Saturday, and only 2 servers. Every table was full, I should have turned around and gone somewhere else. But it actually didn't take long to get a table once I was acknowledged. The server was not friendly, but not rude. Probably really tired and overworked. Food came out surprisingly quickly. But I had to ask for silverware, napkins, syrup, coffee refills, etc. Food was not that good, but wasn't bad. Tasted like most of it had been already cooked and just reheated quickly and thrown on the plate. At least I'm not hungry anymore though. No thank you's, or other niceties. Server did take an extra step to manually enter my card when it didn't work electronically. Actually, I don't blame the servers or kitchen staff for the poor experience. I blame the managers. Only 2 people for brunch/ lunch on a Saturday is not a good formula for success, and is setting people up for failure. Well been here 3 times this week service usually good food good. Today I ordered scrambled eggs. Probably the easiest thing in the world to cook. They came out looking like an egg white omelet. Both servers looked at them and said they are suppose to use a machine or whisk the eggs before cooking them. well today the lazy cooks just dropped the eggs on the grill and mixed them around on grill with a spatula. Waitress asked if I was going to eat them I said no I don't like egg whites that why I order them scrambled. End of meal they charged 4.16 for the egg white disaster they sent me that I wouldn't eat. Today Darrell's was unstaffed. The service was slow. A couple of people in our were ignored. The tables were cleaned off with just water which was not sanitary. Some people in our party had only room-temperature food. Condiments are never on the table when you need them. The lady time we ate there a few weeks ago a large roach was seen crawling on the wall. Our first time was kind of an accident being that we originally wanted to go the station for breakfast. We ended up trying this place out due to the incredible line at the other. Here, no line, we sat right away at their cute little bar. It is tucked back in a shopping plaza and is a bit tricky to find. That ends up being this places saving grace. Hard to find equals not so crowded. The prices are fantastic! As if the recession did not effect this place! For the prices alone we will return! My burrito was delicious! The eggs are fried flat so they roll up perfectly in the burrito and the sausage is fried so it's nice and crispy. With the melted cheese and onions the flavor really pops! I didn't use the salsa but it comes with and the home fries were good. A bit under seasoned but for potato lovers they were fresh and crispy. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak omelette and it was very good he says. Grits are good but not enough of a portion. Biscuit is fresh and hot! Overall we definitely recommend this place! I came to Darrell's at the recommendation of family while visiting Ocala. It is a smaller restaurant near a retirement community so it draws an older crowd. I went around 10am on Saturday and there was plenty of table top seating but I opted for the counter. The food was average and tasted as if it was cooked at home, nothing special. However what makes this a 4 star review over an average 3 star is the people. The servers were nice and accommodating. They were busy but checked in often and didn't make me feel like I was nothing then. We have eaten here several times always enjoyed it until today. Darryl's isn't fancy food or service. It's usually good food, friendly service and good value. So why only one star? We walked in today (Sunday afternoon). Half the tables were taken and all the other tables were dirty w/ plates, glasses, left over food, etc. We stood by the register waiting for a table to be cleared. There were three waitresses; 2 saw us and the third had her back to us at a table. We waited and waited, and waited. No one said anything! Not even a "we'll be with you in a minute." We continued for a few more minutes and nothing. No welcome, no "we'll be with you", nothing. We really felt like we were imposing on them! So we left and went to Breakfast Station where we were welcomed with open arms and friendly faces.m And yes, I know staff are hard to come by and that Darryl's chef died recently! Went to Darrell's in the Villages because I saw it when I went to a store nearby. They were out of hamburgers, then changed my order to item with grilled chicken.....they were out of chicken, so I ordered a sandwich. I asked for no sauce and not grilled or toasted. It came grilled and the ingredients were layered so the sauerkraut was next to the bread and it made one half of the sandwich soggy. Will not return to this location. read more

Service was way off, orders screwed up, and bugs-- tiny tiny flying bugs all over my food and coffee. When I said I won't share my food with bugs I was told they had a plumbing leak and had to open the back door to air the place out. They say looks can be deceiving so when I saw this little diner that didn't look like much I went in. There was no deception. If you are not a regular there is no point. I have been here twice before and ordered a cheese omelette! On 6/12/17 I was there and order it again! This time it was SOAKED in some yellow grease, the waitress told me that's how they cook it! She did offer me something else, but my guy was done with his breakfast, so I didn't want to wait nor would I ever eat anything from there again! While visiting Ocala for the weekend we stopped here for some good diner breakfast as our Airb&b host recommended. When we walked inside no one acknowledged us for some time. We walked to the waitress behind the counter and had to ask if it's seat yourself, which it was. So we sat in her section at the counter. She was not hospitable at all. It seemed she catered to her locals and barely spoke to us. She took our order swiftly, Kinda felt rushed. She filled our coffee once then continued to disregard us. We got our food which was NOTHING to brag about. Biscuits were good though. My boyfriends eggs were runny and steak under cooked. He sent it back without wanting to eat anymore. The waitress kindly took the meal off bill. then slams the bill on the counter. She seemed pissed. So we got out of there as fast as possible. If you want down home diner food, this is your place. A bunch of regulars eat here and we felt very comfortable eating breakfast with them . In fact, one of their customers had baked homemade cheesecake to share and luckily my husband was offered a piece, which was extremely delicious!
