My family and I had breakfast at Darrell's diner this morning and we had a great experience. We had breakfast at other Darrell's locations before, but this was our first time at this location. There were nine of us and we were seated immediately. The location was clean and orderly and the staff was friendly. The restaurants color theme is red and white and decor was minimal. I begin breakfast with a hot chocolate with whipped cream. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they used real whipped cream, not the artificial stuff out of a can which makes a huge difference. I got the 2-2-2 and upgraded my pancakes to cinnamon swirl with scrambled eggs and two sausage patties. Everybody in my party got the correct order, the food was hot, and delicious. Classic two meats and a side lunch. Service is friendly. Plenty of close parking. Okay, do I went there for a quiet business lunch and service was very pleasant. The decor is early americana diner, so don't expect cloth napkins and cloth table clothes and yes, your table may wobble (ours did not). My only complaint is that the food took a very long time to come to us. The food was good, but some of the sides were premade, as you would expect, so it was just the main that had to be cooked, so I am not sure what was going on. But the food, what about the food? Potatoes Salad - just like my momma used to make. Coleslaw - good service, nice flavoring. Fries - frozen, they were okay. Macaroni Salad - not my fave. BLT - well made, crisp bacon, nice flavor Smothered Chopped Beef - a special for the day, I thought it was fantastic. At one point in time, Darrell's was a go to place for breakfast. But when it's 7:30am on a weekday and the place was practically empty, that wasn't a good sign. Our server was sweet and attentive. Ticket times were perfect. However, the food quality to price just did not match up! :( If you're going to ask about temperatures and how the eggs are going to be cooked, then at least try to get as close to those requests as possible. I ordered a medium hamburger patty and it came out completely well down. I also ordered my scrabbled eggs VERY soft and even went on the say, "...runny, wet, barely cooked... ." the eggs came out totally cooked with no sign of runny yolks anywhere. Finally, the home fries were crispy. I'm sorry, but I want them sauteed not deep fried. Then the add-ons, onions and peppers extras were $0.90 **each** and there had to be maybe 3 thin slices of each mixed in with the potatoes. This really sent me over the edge. With my wife's BLT meal and my Hamburger Patty & Eggs, 1 tall OJ and 1 tall whole milk: $40+ !!! We are going to try and find a better breakfast joint to frequent more time a week because the quality of food at these prices just don't justify even a single weekly visit. read more

If I were a judge deciding the matter, if it turned bloody, I would hold the kitchen staff responsible for any fights that my break out... Just judging from my seat 7 feet away. I stopped in at Darrell's recently while my mother was in for an appointment, and I had some free time. I remember this place as being Aunt Fannie's, but never had a chance to visit it back then, so really this was a first time visit without any preconceived notions of what it once was. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door stating that their card reader was down, so I was going to have to pay in cash. A quick visit over to the Wawa next door to get some cash from their ATM fixed that problem. Upon entering, I was greeted and seated immediately. My service was fine, with my wait staff taking care of me without any issues. Note that this was mid-morning, so the early morning rush was gone and it wasn't really starting into lunchtime yet. I kept it simple, ordering some eggs, toast, and corned beef hash (I am such a sucker for corned beef hash, which is why I keep it to diners for breakfast only) All of it was good, and I enjoyed the food. The clientele are purely locals, and at the time it was a mix of retirees and construction folks, which is all good. I love places that the locals go to on a regular basis, because it means the food is good and relatively inexpensive. I was happy with my experience. read more

Darrell's purchased the longtime former Aunt Fannie's restaurant as a turn key operation. Because of that it is still basically Aunt Fannie's. Because of their reputation of being open 24 hours , Darrell's has had to expand it's normally simple breakfast menu into a full 3 meal menu. Prices are higher than what they were and portions are smaller. Normally that wouldn't be too bad except that my food was cold and the corn bread sadly stale. Even though they've been open a month now I'm hoping they're just trying to still get adjusted. I sadly watched as their manager either spent her time behind the building smoking or sitting at tables gabbing with customers while her waitresses served her. Oh! As well as sending her employee son on personal errands. I'll return again after they're totally reorganized. After all it is one of the few places that are open 24 hours. read more

I've eaten here several times in the past, but will never go again! I should have known when I saw the cook not wearing gloves and touching his phone to cancel my order. The chicken fried steak was ok, but the gravy was runny like soup, and the mashed potatoes were terrible. The waitress told me they must've changed the recipe but I don't see any successful business, changing their recipe and downgrading. I was sick to my stomach all night. I was very saddened by the change to one of my favorite places to stop on my drives down to Disney. this use to be Aunt Fannies and was so good. When it was Aunt Fannie's service was great as was the food. Send becoming Darrell's Dog Gone Good Diner, it went downhill. They should call it Darrell's Dog Gone Bad. I have been in three times since changing names hoping with each visit for things to improve as they get adjusted but each time I am disappointed. First off the service is very bad. Each time I go I wait up to 20 minutes for someone to take my drink order. I never get refills. In fact, I am usually ignored as manager chit chats to friends or goes out to smoke. The other waitresses are usually standing around talking I even saw a waitress get upset with an elderly woman because her walker was sitting next to her hair. As for food, the quality has gone down a lot. Portion sizes are smaller yet more expensive. Plus my food is either served lukewarm or cold which could be because the waitresses are talking instead of working. Overall I am aware I need to find a new place to stop on my road trip which is a shame because I really loved this diner before it swapped names and management. read more

I will NEVER come back here as long as you're going to politicize your restaurant to earn business. We enjoy Darrell's Diner and eat at the restaurant across from Walmart frequently, and were happy to see that a Darrell's was open past the 3 PM closing time that the others have. So, we went to try it soon after it opened on a Saturday night at 6 PM and unfortunately they were out of two or three items on the menu that we wanted to try, including the pulled pork and ribs. We chose to go back for another chance a few weeks later around the same time, and they were once again out of pulled pork and other menu items. We tried a few more times, running into the same problem. Our fifth or sixth trip was our last, as we tried to pay for our meal with a Darrell's Gift Card and the manager said they couldn't use it with their card machines. How can you sell a restaurant gift card and refuse to accept them? The wait staff and food that WAS available was alright, but not the great things we expect from Darrell's. We still eat at the Darrell's on 40 and would recommend it any time, but we'll never eat at this location on Pine again. read more

I can't say a single bad word about a Darrell's. This particular location is the "home" of one of my absolute favorite servers, of all time, at any restaurant, from Route 66 to Phil's Diner in Punxsutawney, PA, all the way to sunny FL, Miss Crissy. She is young, energetic, blonde, and beautiful, always just breezing through the diner making her job look exceptionally easy, while you may see other servers in there huffing and puffing and looking lost and aggravated, Crissy is on top of her game and NEVER tells a customer "no", even if they ask for something literally impossible... she will find a compromise that keeps everyone happy, she's the ideal person to have in an establishment like this, with a fresh smile for each and EVERY customer through the door, and a wave goodbye to each one on their way out, even in the midst of writing out a complicated order for a party of 12. She represents Darrell's Diner with grace, class, and as a food handler and salesperson she is top-notch. If you didn't know any better, you'd think she owned the place, because she treats every part of her job as if she is deeply invested in it. I sincerely hope she receives the credit she deserves for her EXEMPLARY performance every single day. Darrell & the owners of the Diner surely must know how very difficult it can be to find a trustworthy & caring employee and the value that brings to their diner.
