I could tell Darrell's was a neighborhood staple because the staff greeted almost each guest by name. Even though they didn't know me I was still welcomed as if I was a regular. I ordered the veggie omelet and added ham with a side of hash browns and an English muffin. They were out of biscuits but they looked delicious. My food is what I expect at a neighborhood diner. My hash browns were a little over cooked. I prefer my omelet ingredients mixed in with the egg, instead of just stuffed inside the folded omelet. To start they had fresh brewed iced tea. Hard to find. The two ladies who were waitressing were amazing, friendly, and efficient. This location of Darrell's Diner is in the Villages. The retail commercial strip not far from Costco in a Publix center. It is relatively small for a diner with a small sit down bar but enough tables and chairs to feel busy. The menu had standard fare, eggs, burgers, salads, nothing too complicated. My turkey club sandwich came w/o bacon, because they "ran out", but failed to inform the guest. I got it remade but it wasn't worth it. The place closes at 3pm so our visit at 2pm was probably a mistake. We'll consider this diner after looking at other options next time. read more

Since moving here recently, I have been looking for a place to enjoy a comfortable Saturday (or any day) breakfast. I found it! A bit too hot just before noon to eat outside, so I opted for indoor seating. Almost as soon as I sat down, Gabby came to my table. The coffee she brought me was very good (coffee away from home always tastes better). In a short amount of time, she returned and took my order. My order came to my table in minutes. My veggie omelette was cooked just the way I like it. Packed with vegetables, it was hot and delicious. Gabby and the kitchen could not have done a better job. I was made to feel like I was home, which was exactly what I was looking for. The only negative was that they do not have butter (not a fan of vegetable spreads) for toast. We stopped here after doing early errands in the wedgewood road area and glad we did. My wife had the three egg with bacon, hash browns and toast. She was able to share with me while I had the half order of biscuits and gravy which was ample and tasty. Good local breakfast spot. The place was clean and the staff was welcoming. The food average for me. The one thing that I did not care for is that I had the smoked sausage omelet with onions and peppers. The sausage and egg where good but I think the raw uncooked onions and peppers made me think that they where an after though to the dish. The coffee was weak and tempted, and not to my personal liking. I would diffidently give it another shot next time I'm in town. read more

Small to medium size breakfast & lunch only diner. Menu is typical for the Darrell's chain. Prices are moderate. They take credit cards. Seat yourself and wait for a menu. We have had breakfast or lunch here about six times now and our conclusion (and rating) can only be described as "inconsistent." Most wait staff are friendly or at least neutral. At prime breakfast and lunch hours the diner can be busy and wait staff rushed. Seating can be very cramped as tables are very close together. No sanitizing that we saw, no social distancing or staff wearing masks. A few brave customers will wear masks. There are a few outdoor tables, but these are sometimes occupied by smokers. Plates and cups can be cracked or chipped, sometimes dangerously so. Flatware is often bent. Details of your order can be missed or ignored. Beverages are sometimes refilled, sometimes not. Food can be very good or inedible. Nobody comments or asks why if you don't eat what you're served. When customers are unhappy, staff can tell and don't ask how you feel about your meal. Although the entire menu can supposedly be ordered regardless of the time of day, you get better meals if they don't inconvenience the cook, so keep that in mind before you order. If your partner wants breakfast at 11 a.m. and you would prefer a burger, expect the breakfast to be well prepared and the lunch to be burnt and/or badly undercooked. Serve it on a razor sharp chipped plate and the customer starts to feel the cook is taking revenge. It's clear that some locals eat here regularly. As a newbie, you may feel unwelcome as everyone stares at you. And some groups can be very noisy due to all the hard surfaces. Coming at an off time sometimes helps, sometimes not as the cook may be tired and wants to go home early. Fryers and grills can sometimes be turned off during the last hour before closure. As a result of all of the above, we've given up on this place. read more

We arrived with our two dogs and sat out front waiting for service. I went inside and found a waitress asked her for two menus and reminded them that we are out front. We sat outside because we had our two dogs with us. Noticed there was someone inside with a little Yorky who kept barking and barking clearly was not a service animal. Third time I went in for service I handed them the menus and I said I guess you don't service people who sit outside your restaurant. And I was told that they were busy trying to catch up and they would get to us as soon as they could. So we just got up and left and will consider other options that are pet friendly for breakfast. read more

Staff is always friendly! One of my favorite places to call and order takeout on the weekends. I don't think they've ever screwed up an order.
