Sunday morning but not very busy. Classic Eggs Benedict, coffee, and water. Our food was cold and coffee replenished by a different server than the slacker we had. I watched him at the food counter, fiddling with the order sheets, swapping out coffee pots, and otherwise just standing there. My friend and I had separate bills. Slacker didn't give her the full change just rounded up from what she owed. Then scurried off to wherever he'd tuck himself away when not standing by the food counter doing nothing. Tonight we ordered a half chicken white meat for carry out. When we opened at home it was dark meat which we do not eat EVER. Just don't like it. Called Metro and lady was very rude. She said we would need to drive back with the order and wait 30 minutes for the correct order and said they are very busy. I don't care if they are busy. We paid for a dinner and should at least be compensated half of what we spent for a dinner we didn't eat. To drive all the way back and wait for another 30 minutes wasn't an option. Part of reason for calling the error to their attention was to hopefully make them more careful on orders. I know mistakes are made but the restaurant needs to take accountability and at least be polite about it. Chicken was tossed and my husband ate french fries and I ate the biscuit. I had the fried 1/2 chicken and waffles dinner. The chicken was very hot and delicious with a whole waffle, cut in quarters. There is a large scoop of strawberry butter, almost enough to spread over the 4 pieces waffles. What was missing was the sweet and spicy sauce and more powdered sugar. The waitress noticed I "needed" syrup, but I was already full and ready for a doggy bag. Each part of the Villages has a center location with shops, bars and restaurants. We stopped for lunch at Metro Diner and it was busy. We had to wait about 15 min for a free booth. Our server Mary was very friendly and served us with water almost immediately. They have a big menu with, amongst others, breakfast all day. 3 types of eggs Benedict. I chose the fried chicken Benedict with chicken tenders (buttermilk marinated), 2 poached eggs on a biscuit with plenty of Hollandaise sauce. I only came here because my mom wanted to come. I will never come again. The customers and the staff are rude and don't do well at their job. First time eating there and not going to return. The coffee, at almost $4.00 a mug, was terrible. They must use the cheapest they could get and it tastes like hot water with a splash of coffee taste. A waitress said she'd bring us fresh coffee but never returned. Our waitress brought us more and it was a bit better but not much. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Returned shortly after 1st visit and brought partner in crime. Arrived busy Sunday lunch but found convenient parking space. Hostess was taking names for wait or you could do 1st come, 1st serve seating at kitchen bar - guess what we chose... We ordered shrimp & grits, and bacon avocado scramble bowl. The good: friendly staff members throughout our time there. Food served hot - let things cool so you don't burn mouth. The bad: felt the grits were wetter than we like and overloaded with chopped sautéed onions. Also, seeing my scrambled eggs be portioned from a pan of precooked eggs (mine was 2nd of 3 portions I saw from that pan) I understand why (staying ahead of game during busy sessions). The swivel stools were at an odd distance from counter and it was difficult for us to get comfortable. The ugly: the noise level at the kitchen bar was over the top, from those working the pass calling out servers names, to a very busy working kitchen, not seats I would choose again when busy. My other pet peeve (ugly) were some of the unsanitary (to me at least) kitchen practices - again, don't sit at kitchen bar counter if you don't want to see what's really going on. So many things went wrong... I ordered the chicken finger salad with a cup of broccoli cheese soup. Husband ordered the chicken pot pie & also ordered the soup. The soups arrived piping hot (yay) and while very flavorful, they were so thick they could have been served on plates instead of cups. Our entrees arrived. I was served a house salad instead of the chicken finger salad. My husband's pot pie was cold. Our very nice server quickly removed our plates & we waited for a long time for our food to be brought back. When the food came out, the chicken fingers on my salad were cold and my husband's pot pie was now hot but dried out & sad looking. There was very little sauce & some plain shredded chicken had been spread on top of what little sauce there was. Our server took my salad & said she would have a fresh one made & I would not be charged. My husband said nothing about his pot pie. If that was their version of pot pie, so be it. He simply set it aside. Meanwhile my salad with fresh hot chicken fingers appeared and was truly delicious. The manager came over He was very nice & apologetic. Growing up in NJ, I have been to my share of diners. Although Metro Diner does not resemble most of them, it is not necessarily a bad thing. First off you will not see golf carts accommodated in a diner NJ. Totally a Florida thing. Secondly a NJ diner menu is the size of an old school road atlas with at least 8 pages and 450 mediocre items, where the Metro Diner has one two sided 8" x 11 1/2" card with every delicious item they make. The decor is clean, inviting and a bit of a 1950's vibe. The servers are hard working, knowledgeable and attentive. The food is off the charts good. I was torn between the fried chicken sandwich and the chicken and waffles. I went with the sandwich and the chicken was moist perfectly deep fried and served with Metro's famous spicy sauce. My wife had the chicken salad which was fresh and delicious. We had a great experience at the Metro Diner and we will be returning. We may become regulars. read more

Bad Day .... Have had breakfast there many times. Today was a day I wish I had gone elsewhere. After being sat in the corner, the table was sticky and my wife had to go wash her hands. We finally got our coffee/water then after a long wait we got our food, not by our server but someone else. Some food was burnt yet it was cold ! The majority of the time spent there we were constantly reminded how our waitress was stressed about working 2 jobs and other issues, keep in mind we were in the corner and had to hear her complaining from half way across the restaurant. We ordered from a very pared down menu, I'll say maybe because of today's challenges, but the portions were so small for the prices it was hard to equate. I ordered the chicken pot pie which I would not recommend to go as it spilled out of the flimsy metal tin and was all over the bag. It wasn't that good. Chicken breast meat that seemed to not be roasted because it was cut in perfectly square chunks and gravy was flavorless. The crust seemed to be biscuit dough. So more like chicken and biscuits served in plastic shopping bag. I called the Metro Diner manager and he said it was fine when it was packaged. I also ordered the Shepard's pie. First time here and sadly, I won't return. We wanted to sit at the bar, and we did, but the bar had a previous diners food still at the bar and it was a major mess. Plus the rest of the bar needs to be wiped down. Filthy and a bad first impression. The food came out in decent time. It was typical dinner food. The bartender was good, helped us make some food choices and kept the water full in our cups The staff would yell "door" across the restaurant if a customer was at the door. Which happened often. Very weird. Bathrooms were not clean. And as I walked to the bathroom there were many dirty tables. Maybe they are short staffed but then there's a manager type young guy in a suit sitting in a chat on his phone. Came to Tampa for a night and stopped here for brunch. On a Thursday afternoon, it was quite crowded, but we were able to get a seat right away. Being located in a little plaza, we did not have high expectations, but the inside is adorable and the quality of food and service was just as impressive. Our waiter was incredibly nice (even took the time to introduce himself by name) and our food all came out promptly. We split pancakes, I got avocado toast (no tomatoes), and my friend got the fried chicken sandwich. All of our food was incredible! We also got a to go order of chicken fingers for our friend back at the hotel, who also could not believe the quality. The chicken / fried chicken seems to be a staple here and was on most people's plates. Overall, this diner is incredibly reasonable and the quality food far exceeds most diners that I have had before. read more
