    POKE BOWL (LARGE)
    Kimberly H.

THE BEST place for a poke bowl, they do not play with their toppings and the portion sizes are the best I've had in Atlanta! It tastes amazing and the service is great.

Confession time: I don't like poke bowls. If you're like me, the word 'poke' makes you think of raw fish, and perhaps the thought of raw fish evokes some queasy feelings. I get it; I'm right there with you. But I hope you won't let that keep you from trying Bowl Lab. Non-fish eaters will be happy to find out they've added gyudon beef, tofu, cooked shrimp, and chicken to the menu of protein offerings. Besides proteins, there's a lot of other customizations available, from the rice/salad base, to the mix-ins and sauces. My compunctions with my meals here have been few but notable. First, there seems to be a limit to the number of crunch toppings (e.g. onion crisps, fried garlic, rice puffs, furikake, etc.) that you can add atop your bowl. I'm a big fan of contrasting textures in my meal, so I've often wished I could add more than the maximum of two tiny spoonfuls. My other drawback is sheerly a me-opinion. There's plenty of sauces available, but I've yet to find one that hits just right for me. Some are muted, others are overpowering. My personal favorite is a spicy mayo, which most poke bowl joints seem to have, but Bowl Lab is surprisingly without. Since the sauce comprises such a significant part of the meal's resulting flavor, I've sometimes brought my own Sriracha mayo to the restaurant to ensure I'll have a happy meal. All that said, everything is always incredibly fresh. There's never any fishy smell - in the restaurant or in our bowl - and we often leave feeling satisfied with the serving size. Service here has always been quick, efficient, and polite. There's a limited number of tables and stool seating against the windows, but it's often pretty quiet in here and we've never struggled to find seats.

Bowl Lab is my favorite poke spot in the area! It is located in Vinings, next to Cafe Comma. It is really nice inside, and they have a good amount of seating. I appreciate that there is a free parking deck, as well as a few short term spots out front. The first time I went, I wasn't sure what to get, and the staff was really helpful to help me decide. I got the sunny salmon bowl, which is so tasty and definitely my favorite! I love the pineapple in that one, as well as the crab salad and shrimp that are added to it! You can also build your own bowl, which is always fun. The ingredients are always fresh. The pricing is good. A regular bowl is $10.85, a large is $12.95, and and x-large is $14.95. Definitely check it out if you haven't been!

First time trying a Poke bowl establishment and I am in love! I was looking for something semi healthy yet filling for opt and decided to try somewhere outside my normal "greens and grains" type joint. Upon walking in, I see that this is a very popular place as the staff cranked out numerous in person and online orders. Despite being busy, the staff answered any questions I had as a poke newbie and helped me create a delicious bowl

I absolutely love this place! I come here about twice a month! The bowl is very delicious and filling!

Came to the Bowl Lab for a healthy lunch . Traditionally I've been disappointed with the serving sizes of these poke / bowl places ( 90% rice 10% protein) as well as high prices . I must say I was pleasantly surprised here . The selection process is standard as you pick your choices of base, greens etc . I was delighted by the serving sizes and the price was fair as well - the result was a tasty lunch with all expectations met ( nice service too ) . Highly recommend

I have been driving an hour from Jonesboro to L&L ever since it opened a couple of years ago. My fiancé and I would always get the BBQ chicken plate with extra chicken (we wanted to have leftovers to enjoy over the next couple of days) and if I was picking something up for my mom, she'd always get the combination plate. We'd also get the spam musubi. The food and its portion size was always top notch and very generous. The chicken, very tender and flavorful and since we always ordered extra chicken, that box would be heavy and the chicken filled the entire section of the box! We'd get our money's worth. The last two times we went, the first time, they were out of macaroni salad. Both times, the rice was undercooked and the "extra chicken" portion looked like a small or regular plate. I'm a rewards member and I love this place, and seeing reviews by others about the quality and quantity of the food over the past couple of months tells me that it wasn't just an "off" day when we went - it seems to be the "norm" now, which is disappointing. Has there been a change in management? There was a man who used to be there sitting at one of the tables and he was always very friendly, greeting customers and asking for feedback. I have not seen him there the last couple of times I've been there. If they are under new management, it would make sense that the quality/quantity has been disappointing as sometimes new owners try to save money by serving smaller portions while keeping the cost the same. But then it doesn't answer why the taste of the food wouldn't be the same.. I don't know what's going on over there. I crave that BBQ chicken, but don't want to waste 2 hours (round trip) to go there and get the same as what we've gotten the last two times. The owners know what's transpired over the past couple of months, so I feel that they know what they need to do to get back to the delicious food that L&L was known for because I don't know if there are new cooks there or if the employees are being told to skimp on the portion sizes, but SOMETHING needs to change to get back to what they were known for. I'm rooting for them because I'm craving the BBQ chicken now and I'd love to go there and give it another chance, but I'll wait until I see reviews coming in saying that things are back to the way they were before whatever changes happened..

Parking was easy to find in a free parking lot shared by other neighboring businesses. L&L is in one end of a retail building, and people have to go up some steps to get to the entrance. If steps are challenging to L&L customers, they can park in spaces on the opposite end of the building where there aren't any steps. Counter service was friendly and quick. L&L is in a small space, awkwardly set up, so that if there's a line of customers either waiting in line to place their orders or waiting inside for their food, they're standing right next to the tables. It's not enjoyable to be sitting at a table eating a meal while customers in line are standing no more than 2 feet away checking out what's on your plate. There were at least a couple of tables outside on the side of the building, meaning you have to take the steps down to get to that area, or, if you're physically challenged taking the steps down you'll have to go all the way down to the other end of the building, and walk (or roll) where cars are driving (no sidewalk along the parking lot) to get to the outside tables. While we were eating, the line of people waiting to place their orders grew to about 15 (which included 2 families), and the standing room only area inside quickly got very crowded and noisy. I felt the food was pricey for what we got. I ordered the bbq beef plate and Martin ordered the kahlua pork with cabbage plate. The teriyaki sauce on the bbq beef had a bold flavor, but it was was very salty. The kahlua pork tasted bland to me. Both of the plates came with 2 scoops of steamed white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. The scoops of rice were generous, and the macaroni salad was very good. We don't live close to Smyrna, so I'm concerned about visiting again with the limited sitting space available inside, especially since the weather isn't always conducive to sitting outside to eat a meal. That plus the overall higher prices do not provide any motivation for us to return.
