    Newk's Q sandwich
    Bill D.

I had never been to a Newk's and I was driving by this Smyrna location and decided to have some lunch, and I'm glad I did! When you walk in it is clean, kind of eclectic seating with tables and booths and some seats on a bar with cushions so you have a nice selection of seating options. Since I hadn't eaten here before I spoke with the cashier, very pleasant and helpful fellow. He recommended the Newk's Q sandwich, which is chicken, bacon and some kind of white BBQ sauce on a slightly crunchy hoagie roll, it was exactly the sandwich I was hoping it would be. Look exactly like the menu picture. I had a side of fruit which was pineapple, melon, and grapes, all pretty fresh. I followed it up with a slice of chocolate cake. Overall great experience. Ample parking and great location.

    Pesto Chicken Sandwich

This is a great quick lunch spot. The food comes out fast, and there's a solid variety of options--from sandwiches and pizza to salads and soups. The pesto chicken sandwich is my go-to. There's also plenty of seating, which makes it easy to dine in without feeling rushed.

Not so grilled cheese. ("Adult grilled cheese")

I ordered the adult "Grilled" Cheese. I got a warm cheese sandwich nothing grilled about it. Cheese tastes like nothing.

Maybe next time, and maybe a whole pie instead, as I'm not typically a fan of pizza that stays out on the counter for a bit. That's just me, I bet this is usual, so no points off to them for this. I decided to grab The Marino from their menu. I really enjoyed the meatballs. They were super flavorful, a lot better than most places. The bread they used seemed to have been more on the Ciabatta side. The texture of the bread was soft and not hard to bite into. The sauce was not doused on this, which was great for me, so I didn't get any in my beard. It said panini, but I didn't sense the bread was pressed at all. Maybe there is something different about this in Italy that I'm not aware of? The sandwich was great overall, I wish it was larger or had an option to be larger. At $9.99, I really can't complain. Coulda just gotten two. Maybe next time! :D The shop is really cool and carries a lot of Italian/EU imports. I was able to find a jar of Nutella that is imported, which if you know, imported Nutella taste different than US Nutella and comes in a glass jar instead of plastic and taste creamier. They also had lots of pastas, sauces and candies. Some Easter stuff leftover as well at the time of this post. EU easter candy is better than American easter candy. :D When you walk in, the line sort of leads to the back and you make your way up to the front. In the glass, there are various burrata's available for around $8 each. Good for making your own pizza or perhaps an Italian dish. I didn't pay attention to what milk was used, but this is Georgia, so you make do. The drinks are all canned or bottled. They had some imported sparkling waters. You can tell by the fact that the caps don't twist off and are attached to the bottle intentionally because the EU requires this to avoid pollution by people leaving bottle caps all over the place. The young lady at the counter super knowledgeable and ready to answer questions. She was very sweet and good to talk to. I came after a lunch rush, so she asked me to pick a seat and let her know so she can clean it up. Very much appreciated that. Place is a little small and not a lot of seats. If you happen to come during lunch hour, be prepared to get the order to go and sit outside or across in the park center of the square. It's very well maintained from the looks of it and would be a great picnic area. Overall, I enjoyed this location very much. I would definitely come again to try some of their other offerings.

While I've stopped by for drinks before (iykyk), I had never actually explored the food menu. Talk about a knockout!! The restaurant sits in a bustling shopping plaza alongside a few other spots, but parking was surprisingly easy considering peak brunch time. Inside, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming with both indoor and outdoor seating, and it has a very family-friendly vibe without feeling chaotic. Our waitress, Carly, was an absolute delight. She was attentive, warm, and kept everything moving smoothly despite how busy brunch service was. Now on to the food, because this meal absolutely delivered. We ordered the S.E.C., the French toast, and the shrimp and grits. The S.E.C. was an open-faced everything bagel layered with perfectly cooked shaved beef, tender caramelized onions, cheese, a garlic spread, and topped with a fried over easy egg. When I tell you I wrapped that sandwich up QUICKLY!!! The combination of flavors was literally joy in a bite. The jammy yolk coated everything perfectly and brought the whole dish together. Easy 10/10. The shrimp and grits were also some of the best I've ever had. The flavor they developed with the andouille sausage, peppers, and seasonings paired perfectly with the creamy grits, which helped balance some of the heat. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and that gravy on top... y'all already know I love a good sauce. It coated every topping so each bite felt balanced and packed with flavor. Another easy 10/10. The French toast was a hit too. It leaned more bread pudding style, which honestly made me nervous because I'm typically not a bread pudding fan, but this completely worked for me. You could really taste the depth from the caramelized sugar on the cook, and honestly, it could've stood on its own. The whipped cream helped cut some of the sweetness and balanced things out nicely. My one note was that a few of the smaller pieces had slightly bitter notes, probably from a longer caramelization, but clearly it didn't bother me too much because I still finished the plate. Solid 8/10. Muss & Turner's has officially made its mark as a place I'd gladly come back to, especially for brunch. Definitely one of the better brunch experiences I've had in a while.

The food was excellent, the drinks were on point, and our waitress did an awesome job handling such a large party. She stayed on top of everything and made sure we were taken care of all night. After dinner, we decided to check out the speakeasy through the freezer door--Eleanor's--and unfortunately, that's where the experience took a turn. The atmosphere itself was nice--semi-dark with a cool concept--but it could definitely lean more into a darker, more immersive speakeasy vibe. The bigger issue, though, was the service. It was night and day compared to upstairs. The waitress came across as rude and unwelcoming from the start. A few of us sat down in a small corner area with an L-shaped bench and some extra chairs we had to pull over ourselves. Obviously, with 12 people, there was no way we were all fitting there, yet she insisted she wouldn't take any drink orders until everyone was seated. That made no sense, especially since there was standing room and even a bar-height table available. To make matters worse, there was zero acknowledgment of the birthday--not even a simple "happy birthday," which felt like a missed opportunity given the occasion. When we asked about Fireball shots, the response was a blunt "um, no," followed by "you can have water," as she started filling glasses. That pretty much summed up the vibe we got. Not sure if this is typical service down there or just an off night, but it was enough to make us decide we wouldn't come back to the speakeasy. Bottom line: If you're in the area, definitely check out Muss & Turner's for dinner--it's worth it. But I'd skip Eleanor's and save your time and money.

From the moment you walk in, it's loud, it's busy, and it feels exactly like being back in Chicago. The energy is real, the smell hits you immediately, and you already know you're about to eat GOOD. Parking is easy with plenty of space out front, but inside? It's jumping every time I go and for good reason. I always go for the Italian beef, dipped, with extra peppers, and it tastes exactly like it does back home. Juicy, messy, flavorful... just how it's supposed to be. Not even gonna lie there's no way I'm in Kennesaw without stopping by. If I'm not eating it right then, I'm grabbing one for later. Every. Single. Time. If you've been craving real Chicago flavor in Atlanta this is it.

Think Cookout but with a Chicago heritage and this is Portillos…read more I've only heard of this place but now that I know it's in Kennesaw, I had to make a stop since I was in Woodstock so the drive wasn't that much of a biggie. So it's a fast sit down joint that sits roughly 120 people and they serve fast food but with roots in Chicago. It's literally order and pick it up and enjoy so there isn't much service but because it's relatively new, it's poppin up in there. Now for the food. Because it's rooted out of Chicago, I had to go with some staples. The Chicago dog The Chili cheese dog The italian beef sandwich Let me preface this by say that the hot dogs have a nice snap to the tube shaped meat. It's obviously not fire cooked or fried but even still, a nice snap to it as you bite into it. So the Chicago dog is definitely a nod to its namesake. Relish, peppers, tomatoes, a pickle spear, and seasoned with celery salt stuffed into a poppy seed bun. Now the flavor is rather minimal since they don't put enough celery salt on the dog which is what carries the whole thing but you know, it's based here in the ATL area so I can't fault them TOO much for leaving out the staple ingredient. The dog is rather watery though. The relish, pickles, and the peppers all mix together and you bite into the meat tube but then your mouth is filled with this liquid and yet the bun isn't soggy which was cool but it wasn't a pleasant mouth feel even though it had some flavor to it, the Chicago dog at Portillo wasn't the best experience to try. The Chili cheese dog. This came wrapped in paper and well, the cheese wasn't the nacho cheese sauce but some government cheese stuffed under the glizzy and then a drizzle of flavorless bean filled chili. Wasn't too impressed with it. The Italian beef. I don't know what it was with the kiosk but it didn't default to what we know Italian beef should be. A soggy au jus laden sandwich with spicy peppers generously topped on the hoagie. The meat is tender as can be but bland. The peppers didn't add much other than a slight spice kick but that's it. I did like the sandwich itself but overall, it's mediocre. I get that this is essentially a fast food joint and so I can't really fault them for the experience but there are some things that should be staple and to diversify the menu will not be a good thing to do. Stick to what is working but rest assured, ramp up the flavors a bit before serving because blandness in the South is just unconstitutional.
