After having gone to several bike shops for repairs, accessories, etc., I will never go to another bike shop after Bothell Ski & Bike. They are the absolute best. They offer great service, are friendly, and have done a phenomenal job with my bike over the years. They service my bike immediately, sometimes not even charging me for a quick fix, and their service people are all so knowledgeable. I've been there twice, some time ago when the business was actually in Bothell across from Brooks Biddle and when at the current location more in Kenmore. They haven't known the meaning of service and still don't. First time 8 other people were being helped by an employee. When finished, every employee went to do something else rather than taking a moment to address me, so I left without being served. More recently, I stood at the counter for more than 15 minutes, only two other customers in the store, employees passing by me five times apparently too unconcerned to ask if I needed help. When I was able to stop one and ask if they had a SS fastener for a snowboard, nobody even bothered to look for one and told me NO. I am never giving them another chance to earn my business and recommend you do the same. read more

I brought in my skis after getting a small scratch in the bottom. They epoxied the scratch and did a full wax/tune of my skis too. They said it would take about 4-5 days and my skis were ready within 3. My skis felt great after the wax and I really feel like I got my monies worth between the patching of the scratch and the wax job. It was more on the expensive side.. $95, $104 after taxes.. BUT they did a great job so I think it was worth it. Definitely check them out if you need help with caring for your skis. read more

I've had a Specialized Rockhopper Comp bought new back in 1994. They were actually able to slightly widen my frame to move to a 1x setup. We ordered a Pivot mountain bike in the tough-to-find combination of an x-small frame with Danger Fruit paint. The price was great and, even more important, the bike arrived on time and, as our local bike shop said, "we've never seen a bike packed so securely." I recently took a couple of bikes into Bothell Ski & Bike that I had bought off craigslist for a tune-up and make sure everything was safe and ready to ride. Everyone was super nice and friendly and they took our bikes right away. One bike was deemed ridable and the other needed new breaks. The one that needed new breaks was wheeled away and we were told it would be complete in 3 days. We called on day three and they couldn't locate the bike. They finally found it and the work hadn't been completed. They told us it would take another day. We had to call again and check in the next day and they promised it was being worked on. After the delay, unfortunately, the breaks still aren't working well. I think this place is probably great if you have a fancy bike. I did buy a helmet from them which I love, it's lightweight and fits over my big curly ponytail. Their location is great right off the trail, friendly staff, but follow through on their work was lacking. read more

I could have shopped elsewhere, but I deliberately spend my dollars to support local retailers. I arrived 20 minutes early, none of the staff in the parking lot said anything to me about the store not yet being open. I came back later, other patrons waiting outside because nobody stepped through the door and told them the doors were now unlocked. I asked for a simple product, and was told they don't have it. When I found it I asked how it could be attached to a bike, since they did not have the correct parts. The answer? "Tape". I own five bikes that all need service. I'll be buying more. I want to rent skis this year. I'll find a store that treats paying customers with helpful courtesy. read more

Perhaps I should have called ahead so I didn't have to write this review. I went there specifically to buy a road bike. I didn't want the typical big name brand that was rode to win 7 Tour de Frances. I walked around the shop for about 10 minutes, looking for a specific brand, size and bike. During this time, a person who works there was sharing his latest mountain bike adventures with someone. It appeared he knew this person personally. After the guy left, I was there for another 5 minutes without even so much as; can I help you, if you have any questions let me know etc I guess I'll have to call to see what they have hidden in the back or if they can order something, or a sizing question? read more

I would not recommend going here if you are a woman. When I brought my bike in they were very condescending as I built my bike myself and I had put one part on wrong. They talked to me like I was stupid until my boyfriend came in and talked to them instead. They also have high prices so overall I would much rather go to Greggs or anywhere else. read more

Professional and Trustworthy through a couple of great experiences. 1. Bike Rebuild - Wanted to upgrade and modernize a vintage bike with lots of sentimental value to me. After some quick discussions the team gave me advice on groupset and wheels. Purchased the wheels through them at the end and the build was done within a week with no hassle and lots of care. Bike looked clean and sharp, totally tuned. 2. Packing - Had to move back to my home state and asked Bothell Ski & Bike to help me pack my bikes up. Done within a week with no problem. The real gem was revealed to me when I arrived at my new home and opened the bike boxes. The bikes were meticulously wrapped and packed as if they were new. I have moved bikes many times but the care they exhibited with this pack was simply impressive. The shop is always organized and staff accessible. Workmanship is always meticulous and careful. Came down with my bf to get him a new bike for commuting to work. It's not a far commute....all downhill one way....all uphill the other. We were greeted right away, and a nice employee showed him around, took him outside to the tent sale, filled his head with tons of info, answered all his questions, and then left us to discuss. They had so much to choose from, and after knowing my bf's needs and narrowing down the field for us, it made it much easier for him to make a decision. He ended up choosing a Giant brand bike. Their big tent sale....was really only $10 off....so we decided to go home and think about it, and see if we could get a better deal somewhere else. We went home, looked around onlineand decided it really was a good deal and we liked the people at the shop. So we headed back down the next day and purchased the bike and all the accessories. We appreciated the no pressure sales, the knowledgeable employees, the availability of everything. Great place to go if you are looking for good quality, experienced people and products. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Bothell Ski & Bike. I have used them for several years for seasonal rentals for my children. As a Ski Patroller I have high standards and their rentals are clean, appear very new or slightly used and have been completely defect free. This is based on 9 sets of rentals. But it's not just the rentals. The customer service has been fantastic. Whether through email reminders that are not obnoxious but timely, or personal follow-through. The employees actually DO call back, and they DO follow-up and they DO care. In a crazy, supply chain limited environment this business could ignore this entire aspect but they don't. Mike bird-dogged all kinds of issues because I was so late this year. As an aside, they performed a fantastic job of rerouting my Di2 wiring situation for my Felt AI a few years ago! Extremely poor customer service. We took our bike in, hoping to get it tuned so we can enjoy bike rides on it. It's a 4yr old bike. After the "safety tune-up", somehow the bike seat got broken and it was sliding up and down without locking. We called in about it, and the person said they'll fix it for free. When I walk into the shop with the broken seat to get it fixed as previously discussed with them, I am being shown the fine print of the "safety tune up", somehow Mr. mechanic overlooked that it covers bike seats as well. Despite all this, I'm told it's going to cost extra to fix. WOW !! Despite a verbal confirmation of no extra charges, for a damage done during "tune up" by the shop, I am paying for it. Bothell Ski & Bike lost my business today, and I am not going to recommend the store to anyone in the Kenmore/Bothell area. read more

Called ahead to get some work done on my bike and made a special drive to the shop. When i got there and began explaining the work to be done as discussed over the phone a very rude man appeared from the back office and said they DO NOT do this type of work on used bikes. This was a clean demo bike barely ridden that should have been simple to work on. Not purchased from there overpriced shop but maybe that's why they refused. Who knows. Lousy customer service and no real explanation just basically a go away. So I did thankfully and another local shop was very willing and able to do the work. 250-300 bucks of labor Bothell bike and ski missed out on. They likely don't care but I'll share my story with plenty of my cycling friends and warn them of the rude man that magically appears from the back office. Never again. Lousy customer service. Went into get a quick adjustment. They broke my brake caliper and then blamed it on the manufacturer. I didn't ask them to even look at the brakes. They tried to put it off alignment to add on work. Incredibly shady mechanic. It only takes one to put a bad taste for the entire shop. Also they charge too much and was eager to charge for things you didn't ask for. read more

Had a wonderful experience getting a new bike here! Everyone was friendly and the salesperson was incredibly helpful and gave a couple of great options to try within my budget. I love my new bike! Also appreciated how thoughtful they were about COVID safety. They are limiting how many people are in the store at a time and asking everyone to use masks in order to keep kid customers safe too. We came here to see if they rented cross country skis, which they don't. But you can rent down hill skis and they sell lift passes. They stock a decent range of cycling and skiing gear here, which is pricey, but stylish and functional. The store itself is small, so there is a limited selection to choose from. However, the items that they do carry are high quality, and clearly they've chosen to stock quality over quantity. You could easily spend a lot of money here - some of the bikes they carry are priced in excess of $5000. However, deals can be found if you ask one of the sales associates and are upfront about your budget. I appreciated the lack of aloofness and snootiness that I encounter far too often when shopping at specialty shops like this. My days of extreme sports have long since passed, and while I enjoy downhill skiing, cross country is more my speed these days, and I didn't feel snubbed just because I'm not a super athlete or I wasn't in the market for a new snowboard. The staff here are approachable and knowledgeable, and they didn't talk down to me or try to sell me something I didn't need or want. I was also looking around at bikes while I was there (my old Rockhopper was stolen recently, and my son has outgrown his bike) but I don't need a high performance racing bike and shared that my price range was way lower than anything I was seeing in the store. The staff were great - they took me behind the counter pulled up a few models on their computer that they sometimes stock in the store, which were considerably cheaper and without all the bells and whistles, but still sturdy and decent quality. If you're looking for some repairs or maintenance, they have a service department as well. Overall, it was a positive experience, and it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for cycling or skiing equipment. read more

I recently had my 20 year-old Litespeed rebuilt with some upgraded components and was very impressed with the professionalism, knowledge, advice, and great customer service throughout the entire process. At various times I spoke with Steve, David, Curtis, and Donny and they were all very attentive and helpful. And, they always delivered sooner than promised and stayed within their initial quotes. I am extremely pleased with how my rebuilt bike turned out. It even fits me better than before and it rides great. Overall, I had an outstanding experience and highly recommend Bothell Ski & Bike. If you're looking for a local shop with top-notch mechanics, great service, and a nice selection of quality new bikes, I don't think you can go wrong with Bothell Ski & Bike. Here is an email I sent to the owner. I had a TERRIBLE experience with this place, and will NOT be going back. Hi John - First I want to say thanks for your help with my bike. I would also like to express some of my frustrations since I dropped my bike off over 2 months ago. I have spent over $7000 at your shop, including the initial purchase of my bike from you guys. Once your guys noticed the chips in the carbon, and told me that I needed to either get a crash replacement from Cervelo, or have it repaired through Calfie. I was bummed, but it was nothing you guys did to cause the need for the repair. However, I am not happy with the entire lack of communication from Aaron regarding the repair process. He told me that he would keep me posted at every step of the way, which includes him communicating to me, the repair cost estimate from Calfie, and the timeframe of the repair. I called Aaron 2 weeks after my bike was shipped to see if he had heard from Calfie because I had head nothing from him. He said 'no', he hasn't gotten any estimates or anything from them. I would assume at this point, if he had heard nothing, and me, the customer is asking if he had received the estimate, he would have called Calfie to get that info to pass along to me. As far as I know, he did not do that. Then, 1 week later (3 weeks from the time my bike was shipped), I called Calfie myself to find out what was going on because I was leaving the country 3 days later, and would be gone for nearly 3 weeks. Calfie gave me the total cost, and had said that my bike was done, and ready to be picked up by UPS and shipped that day. So where was my estimate from Aaron? Calfie told me they sent all the info to Bothell Ski and Bike, yet I heard nothing in 3 weeks from Aaron. If Calfie truly did not communicate with Aaron, then that is poor service on their part, but I don't think this is the case because I talked to Calfie myself, and they said they sent everything to Bothell Ski and Bike. So that same day that I talked to Calfie, I went into your shop to buy the Enve 45's because I knew my bike would be there in 4-5 days. When buying the wheels from Aaron, I specifically asked if there would be any issues with getting the wheels, and having my bike finished by the time I got back on June 18th; he said "no, shouldn't be a problem." That sure doesn't sound like he told me the wheels were on backorder until June 28th. I absolutely would NOT have bought those wheels if I knew they were backordered because I cannot get ready for the STP in barely 2 weeks; I had to have everything done by the time I got back in the country on June 18th. I do thank you for the solution of getting the Enve 3.4s. I've spent over $7000 at your shop, I think the communication has been extremely poor and non-existent at times from people on your staff; this is bad customer service. The last thing that I am not happy with is the lockring situation. How, if the bike is right there in the shop, did someone not go look at it, and say, "hmm, this is a 12 tooth cassette, so we should order at 12 tooth lockring." Instead, an 11 tooth lockring was ordered, then a 12 tooth, wasting 4 days. When I picked up my bike yesterday, no one even offered an apology. read more

Shop is good at what they do, but a store that sells $2k-$4k+ bikes shouldn't nickle and dime on bench charges. I feel like an insolent prick for complaining, but I regularly get my staples here and every time I'm treated like I'm antagonising them, or I'm a sketchy dude trying to get them to rebuild a bike I've stolen. They've been condescending about bike quality, even. Who does that? You don't have to suck up and fake some over-the-top customer service, but have some confidence and charm, and don't mock your customers. It doesn't only NOT foster a good cycling community, it turns off potential members. I will say that the manager has been very cool, and genuine, when I've worked with him. When one of the other guys sold me something but hadn't clarified what I actually needed (master chain-link type, 9 v 10-speed, I had a 7spd) he was apologetic, fixed the situation, and clearly took note of the employee's oversight and insisted they be more involved in future sales, so this kind of thing didn't happen again. But those experiences are much rarer than the consistent dissatisfying experiences I've had. Is it unreasonable to expect them to do a (literally 30 second) fix for free if I've paid for countless other, more involved work before? Apparently, but I don't think so. I guess that's sound business sense, but it feels dirty, and exploitative. If I had a single alternative, I wouldn't come here again. I'm really tempted to give them 1-star, but they didn't give me diarrhea or something, so I guess I'll be civil. read more

I've been in to this place three times so far, all for breaking a spoke at Tracy Owens Park (I swear, that place is cursed). All three times their mechanics have repaired my spokes, one time giving me good advice to replace all the drive side spokes after throwing the chain to stop me from having to replace them one by one. The part-owner (John?) is a pretty nice guy. Their mechanics have been more than helpful and very friendly, and their selection of bikes is pretty awesome. I got a chuckle out of the part-owner's rain bike being a Wilier (more expensive than anything I can afford to ride). Normally I would give a 5 star rating for such an experience thus far, but every time I've had a spoke repaired there, the spoke unwinds and undoes itself in 2-3 weeks (if you know anything about wheelbuilding, one of the fastest ways to have a spoke break is an improperly tensioned spoke). This doesn't happen when my normal LBS looks at my wheels, or builds them. That's my only gripe. Customer service: 5 Mechanic expertise: 3 Speed and accuracy of work: 3. Location: 5 Cost: 4 Selection of bikes: 5. Selection of accessories & gear: 4 (It's ok, but not great). Bonus points for bailing me out every time I've been in trouble thus far: +3. Would I be comfortable buying a bike there: Yes. Would I recommend them to my friends: Yes. read more
