A good bike shop isn't just about the supplies, it's the people. Element has been my 'go to' local bike shop (LBS) for a while. Most recently I wanted one of my bikes to really get a solid tune up. WOW. Seriously, WOW. I got an overhaul and the crew sent me pics of everything being cleaned, graciously pointed out what I had neglected :-), but the bike I got back felt like the brand new bike I had 2 years prior. A-MAZE-ING. I've seen the changes in Element over the past 6 years and the way the crew serves the community and convenience of cyclists in the area is great. Whenever I happen to be nearby I stop in the shop and I see them welcome each customer like a friend, helping those with 'pop in' simple service (if they can quickly), and help get people started on their new bike desires or upgrades. I recently saw how they helped a cross-country traveler with a lot of unique challenges on the bike to get cleaned up, be more safe, and more efficient, educating along the way why they were doing certain things. They also have treated my out-of-town guests from Europe amazingly when they would visit for their bike needs and sometimes hosting us on our group rides. I don't live close by anymore, but I still take my service and sales to Element. Good people, high-quality bike offerings, attention-to-detail service, and always a positive attitude toward me. read more

We walked in looking for cycle shoes, nope else in store besides the twoo the sales people where helping. I bought my dad a bike in August and they still haven't given it to him. First they had delay after delay to get his handlebars adjusted. Then they lost the key to remove the battery. We've been waiting 2 months just for that key. Don't bother buying a bike because they won't even give it to you. I was recommended this bike shop by a colleague of mine. Having moved into the area recently, I was shopping for a carbon road bike, and decided to check out Element Cycles. They have a great selection of road and mountain bikes, and I ended up picking the BMC Teammachine. They have excellent service, and are very willing to spend the time with the customers answering all of the questions - even if it won't lead up to a sale. I like to support the local shops, and this is definitely one of them. P.S. They do have 30% off everything sales twice per year, which includes bikes :). I was in the store for a solid 10 minutes but I wasn't acknowledged at all - No "hi, how are you doing, what can I help you with?" Not a word to me as a walk-in consumer. I guess my business is going somewhere else. I am sure there is a shop out there that would take the time to see where I am going to make my next bike purchase or take it in for service. I was recently in need of new tubes and tires for my bike and without an appointment they were able to fit me in. As always, the service was prompt, professional, and super friendly. While I waited they changed out the tubes and tires and actually gave me some free product that had been previously donated to the shop. I offered to pay for it, but they said they wanted to pass it forward. I've bought 2 bikes from them over the years and I will continue to use them exclusively. I drive past 3 other bike shops to get to this one and I'd drive past a dozen more if I had to. Don't use anyone else. This bike shop is simply the best!!! read more

TLDR: They examined my fork after a crash, both forgot to tighten and overtightened things in the headset. So I went on a Seattle Radonneurs ride on January 5 out of this location. They had coffee and donuts, and I was happy. Five miles in, I taco'd a wheel and endo'd. I crashed pretty hard, and urgent care put my left arm in a sling. I decided I should have the shop inspect the fork and frame to make sure they weren't damaged. They were able to get to my problem quickly, and assured me that there was no damage beyond paint. Unfortunately, the next week when I went to move my bike, I realized I couldn't turn the handlebars - the stem was pushed too far down before it was tightened. That's unsafe, and could have easily let to another crash. I fixed it, but then I was fiddling with the brakes, and I discovered they did NOT screw on the cantilever cable holder. Overall, I applaud their customer service but I can not recommend their repair shop. Their malpractice could have caused another crash, and didn't solve my problem. read more

This is definitely my go to go shop for my cycling needs. Greg Hodges and the rest of the team are fantastic!!! I started my Triathlon journey about a year ago and just finished my first Half IronMan distance 70.3. Every time I went to the shop they answered all of my questions related to my cycling needs. From shoes, to trainer, tribars, etc. They made sure I was totally satisfied every single time. I am training for for my first IM and I will continue to go to them for anything I need. Triathlons are expensive and it is nice to have a shop like this one where you know they will sell you what you need. Greg even answered emails about some basic cycling things. I'll also give a shout out to Ricky who does an amazing job with the fit shop. I'm giving three stars for two reasons: 1) every time I go in for mechanical work, there's something they do that isn't quite right and I often have to come back. For example, they'll leave a tube valve open or one time I came in to get a problem with my shifting fixed, picked the bike up and paid, and found it wasn't fixed at all. 2) their return policy is garbage. If you are not 100% sure that what you're buying will work for you, go to REI. You'd think for their prices they could afford a little customer service. I had a lot of good experiences here but I've now had enough bad experiences that they've lost me as a customer. read more

Having heard great things about this place from the City of Redmond, I arranged our company tune-up event with Lorraine (shop manager) and worked with both Nick & Ishan to get the repairs and maintenance completed at our Redmond office in just two days. They did not disappoint and were friendly, honest, informative and complete professionals. They offered discounted/bulk services for this event and for additional repairs and supplies our employees might need down the road. They will be our "go to" when it comes to anything needed for bikes from here on out. read more

I got hit by a car and took my bike here rather than my usual spot in Seattle as it was not fit to ride, and this shop is much closer to my home and crash site. When the repair took a few days longer than they promised, they gave me a free rental so I could ride on the weekend. They did a competent job repairing the front end, replacing stem, mirror and fender and straightening the front wheel. I rode the bike for a while without a hassle. However, the fit was a bit off because of the new stem, which was not an exact replacement. I had a few other minor issues with how the bike fit, so made an appointment for their basic $80 fitting. When the tech met me there, he said he didn't realize what model bike I had and that he could not fit it because "it's old and we can't get parts for it." Since a fitting is loosening fasteners, moving parts around and tightening them, I didn't really understand that. To his credit, he offered free advice, and when I described my main problem of hand and forearm discomfort, sold me new handgrips and installed them They have worked out quite well. He also visually checked the alignment of my cleats. All told he spend 45 minutes with me and I paid for the grips and a new seat (my other complaint). Guess it wasn't too old for THOSE parts! While I appreciate the service, I felt a bit turned off by the condescension that my bike (or I) was too cheap to deserve a professional fitting. It's a 20 year old rig, but sturdy and I maintain it well (using "The Bicycle Repair Shop", my usual spot). I put a few thousand miles on it each year commuting and riding on the weekends. I see no need to replace it with a $3,000 carbon fiber road bike. I had to do my own adjustments at home, which worked out well but did take some time and fiddling around. If you are in the market for a new high-end model road bike, this seems like a good spot. For routine maintenance, there are better options. read more

I bought my bike here 4 years ago and bring it in for service regularly. Everyone is always very nice and helpful when I come in with urgent service requests, such as a broken shifter (fixed under warranty the week before STP back in 2018) and worn out disc brake rotors (replaced with the last 2 compatible rotors they had in stock in the middle of the pandemic shortages). The prices are not super cheap but they are reasonable because of the high quality and attention to detail. And many times they will even fix simple things like bad gear indexing for free. read more

Professional, knowledgable, and helpful! I have been cycling for nearly 15 years and this shop has everything! High-end road/mountain bikes, great value hybrid bikes, kids bikes, e-bikes, and everything in between. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by their sales staff. It was a low-pressure environment and every question I had was answered. Their clothing/accessory selection is unlike any other shop I've been too. Most shops will have just a few brands of helmets/clothes. Element Cycles, however, WOW! I originally came into this shop to kill 20 minutes while my girlfriend was finishing her haircut. After 45 minutes she had to drag me out as I could have stayed another hour, or three. Safe to say I've been back numerous times and would recommend this shop to family, friends, and anyone who is reading this review! read more

Updated review: I originally had an issue with a special order hardtail bike being a bit too large. The owner, or store manager, Ty, reached out to me to see what he can do to help me. So he asked if I could come back into the store. When I brought my bike in, he immediately was able to tell the bike was a bit too large and agreed to exchange it. After demoing the smaller frame in the full suspension model, I knew I found the right size. I also felt more confident in the full suspension that I opted to upgrade. So now i have a much better bike and this is all thanks to Ty and Element Cycle. Tip: if you're ever unsure of your size in a specific brand/model go into the store! I called to get my campy groupo tuned - was able to bring it in same day - instead of booking out 2 weeks like other shops. Once in the shop, was tuned and all questions answered within an hour. I went in last Sunday for a $50 mountain bike rental, which seemed like a good deal at the time, except they put a $1700 hold on my DEBIT card. They asked if they could put a hold, but didn't tell me how much it would be and I falsely assumed it would be a couple hundred bucks. Instead, it was far more than what I had in my bank account which caused my account to be overdrawn and for fees to be racked up. I returned the bike well within the 24-hour rental window and asked them to reverse the hold since it was on my debit card which now had a negative balance. They said they'd never had a problem with people getting overdraft fees on debit cards before, and that the charge would be reversed in 3 days. (I'm still waiting.) On Tuesday, when the charges continued to pile up on my bank account thanks to these guys, I called to complain. I spoke with someone who clearly had no experience in dealing with customer complaints and had absolutely no idea how to remedy the situation. He said it was not his company's problem, and was between the financial institution they use and my bank. I told him to call the financial institution and ask them to reverse the charge, and he said he'd try but could make no guarantees. I also told him to make sure that they make clear to customers HOW MUCH the hold is, and to have it put on a CREDIT card, not a debit card. His lame answer was, well we usually do. I repeated that they didn't do that for me, or otherwise I wouldn't have used my debit card. He seemingly had no understanding or sympathy for why I was mad. Meanwhile, it's now been 5 days, the charges HAVEN'T been reversed, so I've been unable to use my debit card on any other purchases during this time. The company hasn't done anything to try to make this right, like at the very minimum giving me my $1700 back, or ideally refunding all of my money because of the hassle they caused. I've never had a problem like this at a rental place before, and I definitely won't be coming here again. read more

I waited 20 min at the register to buy a part for my bike while the people who worked here were only interested in helping the people (in this occasion, one person) looking at demoing bikes. 3 men for 1 female customer seems a bit excessive, especially as the advice I overheard being given wasn't accurate. I've reviewed this place before, and wandered in there this afternoon for the first time since 2017. I'm happy to report that my experience with the repair staff was --as before-- smooth as silk. The repair area was very busy (always a good sign, business wise) and Sam --one of their newer employees-- took care of my bike breakdown expertly and efficiently. I also appreciate that this staff is always receptive to my questions, however misguided or off the wall they might seem. Yes, I can be laughably ignorant as to bike mechanics, but I've learned a lot each time I've dealt with this staff and there is never a note of condescension in their response(s). My MTB frame cracked and the manufacturer (Pivot) asked me to bring the bike to EC, an authorized Pivot dealer, and have EC send the frame to Pivot. After about two months the disassembled bike got returned to us by EC. When my husband assembled the bike he noticed that the rear suspension got switched out, not only that, the suspension that we received was broken, it leaked oil which requires a costly rebuild or full replacement. Pivot was not to blame since they only received the frame from EC. My husband talked to EC's manager,Ty Charouhas, who gave him an appointment to bring in the suspension and told him that they would fix or replace it. We went there but Ty was not around. One of their mechanics, Alvin, took the suspension off the bike (still have the work order as proof). Alvin seemed to be totally unaware of our appointment and the phone conversation with Ty. We waited several weeks for EC to contact us but nothing happened. We sent emails, called, left messages for Ty, but did not hear back from them. After dozens of failed attempts my husband finally got Ty on the phone. Ty claimed he hadn't received any messages from us and that we never showed up for the appointment that he gave us, a blatant lie. I ended up buying a new rear suspension for $300. Stay away by all means, they are dishonest. read more

Ask a dozen cyclists what makes a good LBS (local bike shop), you will likely get 13 different answers. For me, a good LBS offers a combination of great customer service, selection, recommendations, and attitude. With Element, my experience so far is they line up very well with my expectations. Customer Service: For me, customer service means ease of communication. I recently purchased a nice-but-not-extravagant bike from Lorraine, the boss lady. I emailed her batches of emails, each with an absurd number of questions, and she was always prompt and complete in responding, always the same day, often in near-real-time. Her willingness to communicate with me helped me develop a higher level of trust, faster, than would normally happen, which paid off later. Selection and recommendations: I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted going in, and Lorraine and her team pushed back on a couple of conclusions. Normally I would default to the "I know better than anyone because I am, well, me" but the fact that they were so complete and responsive in answering my questions (see above), I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and it has paid off; the alts they recommended are paying off in spades. The selection in this place is rather remarkable; there is more carbon fiber in this showroom than in a Boeing Dreamliner. I was rather limited in what I was looking at, but it was clear they cover the range from entry-level to super-pro. Attitude: This is always the toughest to quantify and the vector that can change the fastest but in my dealings so far, they are all about getting it done, getting it done right and striving for long-term relationships with customers. We will see how that commitment stands the test of time when I show up four minutes before closing, demanding a bike tune and a shot of espresso, but by all indications, I think they will rise to the challenge.
