I've been a loyal Big 5 customer for years, in California and now in Washington. At the Redmond Store. During this visit, I was browsing for cycling shorts and looking around other sections of the store--like I usually do when I shop for outdoor or camping gear. As I walked near the kayaks, an employee named Chad suddenly shouted across the store, "Are you OK?" in a loud, almost accusatory tone. I wasn't sure if he was speaking to me, but when I asked, he said yes. It made me feel like I was being watched suspiciously, even though I was simply browsing. When I went to the register, I mentioned that his tone had startled me. Instead of apologizing, he just nodded and made a "hmm, hmm, hmm" sound while looking away--completely dismissive and unkind. There was no "sorry," no acknowledgment, and when I paid, he didn't even say "thank you" or show the slightest courtesy. Immediately after, I saw him speak to another customer with a big smile and a polite tone. The difference in how he treated us was obvious and upsetting. read more

I went to the Redmond Big 5 store this morning to exchange a Christmas gift that didn't fit. I had no receipt, but the clerk was willing to let me exchange and waved his hand in the direction of the rack. The adidas rack was not marked and when I found it I thought I brought up the correct pants. The clerk said no it was another 15 dollars. I tried again and figured out there were no pants like mine in the store. the clerk spent a good 10 minutes with my driver's license and said to many people were trying to steal the products. The store was basically empty and the clerk would not come lend a hand . he said thanks for coming in but would not help any further. Went to Redmond store today. When I walked in, 2 employees at the counter, I said "Hi" and they just looked at me and went back to whatever they were doing on their cell phones. Totally ignored me, didn't even ask if they could help me find something. Couldn't find what I was looking for and left....HORRIBLE !!! service and they should be fired. Must be nice getting paid to be on their cell phones. read more

This is for Big 5 in Redmond Wa (outside redmond town center.) I've shopped at big 5s my whole life. I buy stuff from there still. Bought a hundred some dollar soccer goal there just two months ago. I could have bought at Costco, or Dicks, or Amazon. But I've stayed brand loyal. Until today. Today I went there with my 5 year old in complete buy mode, then all of a sudden my 5 year old needs to go to the bathroom. I ask nicely, and these guys won't him use it. They say go to the world market next door.. Except I've never bought anything at world market. But I've been getting stuff at big 5 my whole life. My parents bought me stuff from there as a kid. But despite this Big 5 wants me to take my 5 year old next door to a place I've never been before, because that's how much they value my business ?? Good luck in the future Big 5. You don't deserve my past or current or future business. read more

BIG TIME DISSAPPOINTMENT AT BIG FIVE REDMOND.... I love sporting goods...yet had never checked out the BIG FIVE In Redmond....but am sorry I did. First of all? Service? It simply didn't exsist. Staffing wasn't the issue... I counted over FIVE employees....not one we're looking to help, or willing to help...and I did ask. I'm not attempting to be mean here? But the vibe that came off the employees? Was like they were all on some sort of work release program.. and were angry about it. Collectively, these were some of the most unfriendly, and morose customer facing employees I've EVER run into. Secondly, the prices.... Not remotely compelling, or competitive with other stores or online. WAY TOO high....way too high. Lastly. Selection was low.... There were some cool and unique items there? More unique than cool to be honest. If you're going into a sporting goods store, hoping for the affable old, and knowledgable guy? Nope. Think more.....angry people from the movie Office Space. BIG FIVE REDMOND? Amazon is eating your lunch already.... You'd better step it up...BIG TIME. read more

Not too sure why the low reviews--found the staff to be extremely helpful (contrasting it with Dick's in the highlands where it was difficult to get help) and kind with helping get soccer shoes for our little guy. Well organized and will definitely head here in the future when we need things since can't be the convenient location near downtown Redmond. read more

Are you kidding me?! What great customer service! I went in to grab a trampoline for my kiddo for Christmas and decided to call first since I was striking out all over town. I spoke with Chris on the phone who was very informative and let me know they had a few in stock left. I drove right over and was promptly greeted by Shane who walked me right to the options. After choosing the perfect one, Shane and Cameron were so nice and helped me play Tetris in order to fit the trampoline in my car. They were so nice and didn't complain about their job. Great selection of work boots. Great prices. I like Big 5 for my work boots because they have such a big selection for all kinds of work environments. All displayed on the wall to make it easy to look at and compare prices. And you don't have to scrimmage through inventory to find your size. Just let the staff know what size, and style, and they bring it to you. read more

Went in for a rain coat and their selection was next to nothing for women. I picked over the rack that the sales associate directed me to, which was nothing but black rain jacket shells in mostly XL. Selection is small and limited as far as apparel is concerned, BUT they had really good deals, sales, & clearance... so I bought a pair of stretchy athletic pants and a hoodie, both on the cheap cheap. I've never been in this store until today, although I've frequently gone to the Cost World Plus store right beside it. I really wanted to get some pepper spray and I thought this sporting store would carry some. And I was right! Entering the store, I was struck but how small and relatively dark it was, and how relatively cluttered it was, too. I say "relatively" a lot here because I am used to the larger types of sports warehouse stores, like Sports Authority, where there is TONS of open space and room to move around, and clearly designated areas devoted to different sports, and lots of fluorescent lighting. Of course, Sports Authority recently went bankrupt, so perhaps that warehouse model wasn't exactly the cat's meow. Still, I was taken aback by this Big 5 store, as it seemed the antithesis of SA and the sporting stores I'm used to. I found a few pepper spray models by the display immediately inside the store. As I crouched to read about the different models, the lady behind the counter instantly asked if she could assist me and, upon hearing that I was looking at pepper spray, she said they had many more models of sprays at the counter at the eastern-most side of the store, and she called an assistant over to that counter to help me. Wow, what service! I passed a lot of sports bras and running apparel, then fishing gear, as I approached this side counter. There, I saw a lot of guns and rifles on the wall. A lot. (I'm Canadian. Not a gun person). It was off-putting. But an older male employee came up to me to show me the many, many models of pepper spray they had, so I was quickly distracted from the gun wall nearby. Who knew there were so many kinds of pepper sprays! It was quite an education. And this sales clerk was SO patient, as I read all the models' packaging, looking for expiration dates, weighing the pros and cons of the various features on all the models. After choosing the spray I wanted, I went back to the front cash and quickly checked out. The lady there was super efficient and friendly. So, hey, perhaps this store is on the smaller side and not as fancy as other contemporary sports stores. Perhaps it's not as bright or open-spaced. But you know what? The folks here are genuine and friendly and knowledgeable, and more mature than the sales clerks in those now-defunct warehouse stores. This place had what I was looking for - and lots of choices for me, too, in a large range of prices. It's clean, it's close and there's ample parking. So what more really does anyone need? read more

A sporting goods store right next to a gym (not the Pokemon kind). That's pretty convenient. I don't know whether it was coincidental or planned that way, but maybe some people want to buy their stuff here and exercise with it at 24 Hour Fitness because--let's face it--24 Hour's prices are way inflated. I've bought some miscellaneous items here before. A water bottle and some ear plugs for a recent trip. I also bought a sweet sports watch for around $50. Then they have some stuff that you wouldn't expect, like Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. Kind of neat, although this is a smaller store, so it's not as thorough as what you would find at the bigger ones. read more

Its the only sporting goods in Redmond and the guys who work there are always nice, until a recent older white man got hired. He just called me the b word under his breath for wanting him to look for a box for my new purchase, he was mad he couldnt be lazy and just sell floor model. His job. The second time I have had problems with this older man. He also says he cannot read, which is fine, however he gave ME attitude for his short comings in life. Great store but they hired one asshole with asbergers or something so I wont be shopping there again. read more

Just bought a scuba mask and opened it up to find it's been used! So disappointed as I can't do anything about it (leaving on my trip tomorrow morning). I did notice the package was taped on the side so I double checked with the cashier at checkout to which he replied it would not be put back out on the floor if it was used. Always double check because I wish I did. read more

Once a week, they have crazy sales off stuff everyone who goes outside or workout need. Today, it was just an insulated cup that look like a mug with insulation and a lid. I wanted it as it was half off to use outside home in patio. It was there later in evening, but no basket for shopping, instead the boy Mgr approached me and offer to carry them. Lol. He said people come and shop and just walk out w/o paying. Ok.... does he know people don't want their stuff touched??? Kinda dumb and not sanitary, but the poor guy is trying to prevent theft. I have been to this store on a hunt for a treadmill, for a bike, for snow boots, and this time for snow pants. They didn't have any of the fitness equipments on display due to safety hazards, but they have a selection online. Snowboots were available in limited sizes. I found snow pants my size though. They had a good a deal going on. Most ladies and juniors snow pants with or without suspenders for 35 bucks. Also picked up gloves, glasses and balaclavas. Yesterday my husband and I went there to buy a pair of slip resistance shoes. We paid cash and then we left. After we came home my husband found there was no receipt in the bag. And we tried the shoes. We found it didn't resist well so we decided to change it tomorrow. Today we went there and I told the manager we forgot to take the receipt and how can we do. The manager just told me no receipt they couldn't help me. But the cashier was there and she didn't say anything cause she didn't give me the receipt yesterday. OMG. So I asked if we could change another one the manager said OK. we chose another experience one. We paid the first one 29.99 with tax. But they only return me 27 and told me cause I paid cash before and they couldn't check it. OMG. Will never come back again. read more

Looks like they are packed with inventory. Too bad the sales people want to stay at the cash register and not help you. Couldn't find adult men's basketball shoes. Couldn't find anybody to help me. Disappointed since I was trying the new store near my house. Updating to three stars. Went back (out of desperation, I'll admit it) and sighed when I saw another young man sitting at the cash register. This one, however, gets it. He said hello, and then when I asked him if he had an item, he said yes and led me right to it. He even displayed some knowledge of the item. Keep it up, Big 5!... read more

I have spent hundreds of dollars at this place over the last few years and in the last few months they have hired the absolute worst incompetent employees I've ever seen. There is one particular female employee who is so angry and mean every time I go in there and today was the last straw. The worst customer service. read more
