Got a gel manicure here for the first time. While my nails looked good from the quick looks I got at the salon, I realized when I came home that they're a mess. Issues include: Dried gel all over my skin on almost every single nail. Uneven application. Nails have lumps on the outer edges from polish pooling on the outsides and getting cured that way. There was so much gel dried on my pinky that she had to cut off extra skin just to get it off. Apparently that was skin I needed because it hurts now. I still have hangnails on several nails even after she used the clippers to try to clean them up. I wish I had noticed how rough this was at the salon but I left thinking it was fine and am now disappointed and stuck using a nail file to try to clean it up myself. When I 1st walk in I'm asked what I'm needing by a tech whose name I later find out is Sammi & is not friendly w/ me from the beginning & at 1st this does not bother but as my visit goes on I'm noticing how Sammi is interacting w/ her customer & a few other customers around her who are obviously repeat customers becuz they are having very loud conversations about following each other on Instagram, ect so this alone is not making for a very relaxed experience. Then the tech going to do my mani keeps rushing me to pick out my color so I end up picking a color I don't really want & this tech is very abrupt..she never once asked if I wanted anything to drink (they give complementary mimosas, wine, water) even though EVERY CUSTOMER around me was offered something to drink or had a drink. Now the tech, who did my mani & Sammi know I'm active on Yelp & WOW, you should have seen the difference in how they started to treat me..now they want to offer me something to drink after being there over 45 mins! Very unprofessional! The pros: It's a new, clean facility. Lots of color samples to choose from along with different design samples. Everything is transparent when it comes to their prices. From these other reviews, it looks like they are extremely hit or miss. For the people who had a good experience at this nail salon, I am glad you got that, but I was not one of those people at all. It also looks like quite a few people have had a bad experience with one nail technician being very rude to them. This is exactly what happened to me and my mom today. I would like to warn people who go to this nail salon, don't. Unless you have thick skin and a thick wallet. At first, the service was off to a very good start. My nail technician seemed like a really friendly woman, and she told me that the color of the holographic dip nail polish would be silver in the end despite it going on black, and the polish color saying black on the dip jar. I was confused as to how this would work, but didn't bring it up until the end when we finally got to the top coat and my nails were still black, I asked for clarification as to if they would be silver or not. I did it very nicely. I am a 20 year old soft spoken woman and try to be respectful always. The nail tech started yelling at me (loud enough for everyone in the room's jaw to drop). I kindly asked her to please stop yelling at me. After this you could tell that she was so mad she just quickly finished my manicure but her hands were shaking the rest of the time because she was mad, which I think affected the outcome of my manicure. (pics attached. They look okay, but have some visible black around the edges and are pretty bumpy looking in person. They kind of look like fat silver boogers on my fingers). My hands were shaking and my heart was beating because this lady flat out decided to start screaming at me, like some sort of switch flipped. My mom stood up for me and asked her to apologize to me and other people in the room for yelling at me. Both the apologies of her and the manager seemed to be very condescending. They replied that she was "talking loud" because her mask was on, and that she didn't mean to yell. She also told us that she has a temper and kept trying to blame me for why she was yelling at me. She told me many times that she was yelling because I asked what color polish it was going to turn out as more than once. It was super humiliating and I basically had to sit there and look at the floor for the rest of the manicure so I wouldn't start crying. Then we went to check out and the total was $120. I got gel dip nails, and my mom got a pedicure with no color. Extremely steep prices for what we got (and the service we got) and they up-charge you for everything. I recently moved and was looking for a new nail salon to go to nearby. I found Boss Nails through Yelp and was sold when I saw they did matte polish. I was a walk-in and had no trouble getting seated. I got both a regular pedi and then a shellac mani with a matte finish. Both have been great and the mani lasted 2.5 weeks before it started peeling off. Sad to write this review, but must write so that management can get it figured out. Paul is an extremely talented nail tech. I was happy to find a place upon moving to Austin where I loved the style and efficiency of the work. Not only did the nails look fantastic each time, but the dip powder lasted for as long as I wanted until it was unbearable to look at and time for me to come back in. I wish that I could write two separate reviews to express that satisfaction contrary to my dissatisfied service I received a few weeks back before my birthday. 10:10 I came in upon opening before the crowd to hopefully squeeze in a mani and pedi. The older lady who was in the store had the shop opened but was not a nail tech from my understanding and spoke very little english. 10:25 I took a little time picking my color and finally sat down with the lady who had set up a bowl of acetone to soak my dip nails in. We pleasantly exchanged smiles and thats when I realized she wasnt going to be doing my nails as she told me the lady will be here soon. I sat down and before dipping my nails in the acetone asked if Paul was going to be in. She did not understand me so I tried to use google translate. We were still unable to communicate as Im sure at this point she was a little nervous. She called someone again Im sure to explain I was in there waiting. 10:35-10:40 Finally, a lady walked in with her daughter and rushed over to help communicate.I asked if Paul was going to be there n she stated no but I can call him. I said no thats okay, as I know that him and his wife barely get a day off due to recent family events. I said it was fine, and asked if I could just soak off my nails (I had a few chipped nails from the dip) and come back when Paul was in. She completely denied my soak and said well just come back when hes here. And I said thats fine, but can I just remove my nails? I dont think she understood, or possibly thought I wanted that done for free, but I was unable to get the soak and wasted time from my morning. What I had wished for was the lady to be there on time so she can communicate if Paul was in or not. I left the nail shop a little disappointed because I loved how close this place was to my house + the work paul does! Spent 2 hours there yesterday 05/07/22. They hurt me numerous times removing gel from my toes with a nail filer that kept rubbing skin. Had enough when they cut my cuticle on my toe. I didn't trust them to finish my toes without pain. Did gel on hands, removal of gel/acrylic from hands was smooth. Gel on hands peeling less than 24hours later 05/08/22. And no I have not washed dishes. Paid $15 to remove existing from hands, paid $35 for gel on hands, and they still charged me to remove gel from toes even though I was hurt and cut in the process. I'm afraid to share this review because I don't want my new spot to become overrun with more people- BUT! For my North-Central Boss Babes, Boss Nails gets it right. They're incredible accommodating, everyone there is delightfully sweet, their prices are $5.00 cheaper than elsewhere in Austin, and they keep it clean and deliver a solid, long-lasting mani-pedi. I've never felt pressured to do 'more' than what I wanted- and they've always explained to me what I was getting and were very clear about prices prior to my choosing them. Sammi is a nail-art QUEEN, but she books up quickly- if you want something done with really fun effects and sequins and all the jazzy jazz hands times, she's your girl. And she's adorable and SO sweet to boot! I suggest booking online, but if you go in during off-peak hours, I've never had an issue with them getting me on the schedule. There was one time I was there and they had 3 nail techs call in sick- so 2 of them tag-teamed and worked SO hard and fast to get all of us taken care of. I met a good friend for manis here this evening and will definitely return! It's fair to say that I'm incredibly picky, but Paul just gave me the prettiest manicure I've ever had! He was very personable and chatted with us the whole time. I chose SNS and they aren't thick or uneven like my previous set from another salon. Paul listened to exactly what I wanted and exceeded my expectations. My friend says everyone there is great and her manicure (by Sammi) was really nice, but I would definitely recommend Paul for his skills, the conversation, and his customer service.
