Five stars wholeheartedly to this beautiful place that offers an amazing deprivation tank experience. This was my first time and I'm so glad it took place in a place as lovely as this. I can't wait to do it again. The young lady who agreed to us was very informative, took us through how it was going to work, showed us. The facility made us feel very at ease. She even made us a lovely tea when we were finished. The place is very clean and organize, smell nice and it's very local to residence of that area. Street parking limited, but it was easy to find. Although I'm not from this area, I definitely would recommend residence of this area to try it out if you haven't already. read more

Have been looking for a float therapy place that has full enclosed rooms. Ocean Lab hit the mark! The rooms are set up so the shower/dressing area is right when you walk into the room and the float tank is 100% enclosed. No 'pods' where cold air seeps in which means you stay warm throughout the float. The gentleman who assisted me was knowledgeable and friendly walking me through all of the services offered at this location. They are also open pretty late, 9:30 I believe. If you're looking to try float therapy, highly recommend this location. read more

When I need to chill the effe out or unwind; there's no better place than the ocean lab. The staff is always warm and inviting and offering me water or tea. I love to float in their big tanks, sweat it out in the sauna or "get high on my own supply"by doing a cold plunge and the best tech in the joint, the pemf mat. My back was bugging and 3, 30 minute sessions on that baby and I am purring like a kitten again. I love hanging out after service and talking to the staff. I booked a cold plunge experience here through ClassPass. I had never done a cold plunge before, so I had no expectations going into it. I found free parking in the attached parking garage. I headed inside and was asked to remove my shoes. Then, the employee gave me a little tour of the facilities. It's a pretty small place, and the cold plunge pools are all outside. The first cold plunge was literally on the patio in front of the street, so in theory, you'd be cold plunging in a swim suit in front of everyone driving by. The employee must have seen the look of confusion on my face, because he then begrudgingly told me there were 2 additional options "out back". This meant walking barefoot around the building along the sidewalk to 2 more cold plunges that were in view of the parking garage, instead. Thankfully, he agreed that I could use the employee entrance door so that I wouldn't have to walk in a bikini on the sidewalk. It's clear that The Ocean Lab was not created for cold plunge experiences, but more so for the float tanks and saunas that they offer. If you book an experience here for a sauna or float tank, it might be a good experience. But I would not recommend the cold plunges to anyone who values privacy, unfortunately. read more

Note: if you've recently dyed your hair something bright, they'll ask that you wait around 4 weeks before doing a float. So, this place has a strange vibe. The staff is all a little too chill for my preference. Don't be surprised if no one is there when you first walk-in, and you have to wait for someone to show up. Once someone does attend to you, you'll get some very vague instructions. The "changing" area is kind of an open spot w/ a few little cubby holes. I didn't bother using it, I held on to my things and went into the float; I kept my stuff in the shower area before the actual float tank. The float itself is pretty nice. Honestly I haven't been to any others, but I had a relaxing time for most of it. You can turn the lights and songs off if that's what you want. They also have like a starry projection which was definitely the best. After the float you'll need to scrub off to get the salty water from drying in crusts on you. I still found it in my ears hours later, but besides that I was squeaky clean. They offered us fresh mugs of tea at the end. Super nice way to end a relaxation time. I'm curious to try a different float place after this, not very interested in returning. read more

After the Zero Gravity Institute vanished during the pandemic I needed a new float home in Austin. The Ocean Lab was a memorable stepping stone on my quest, earning the double distinction of being both the filthiest and most cult-like float spa I've ever visited (and I've been floating for a decade). My assessment at the time was that the whole place could benefit from some competent leadership and a lot of cleaning. The size of the pods is great. The welcome protocol- nonexistent. Expect to be greeted by a pile of shoes. Given the soggy towels and hair strewn about the gender neural changing area, the suspiciously wet surfaces, and the general vacant demeanor of the staff, I did not sit down and opted to avoid the tea I was eventually offered. Their covid protocols were poor enough to raise the red flag. Their barefoot cohort of true-believers seems to have subscribed to the pastel QAnon brand of magical thinking that encourages eschewing masks, vaccines and hand washing (if not eating horse paste or shining a bright light inside the body). The young, stoney employees were casual to the point of neglect. One of them dropped heavy innuendo about the two-person float sesh. "What a fun, sexy time for you," I thought involuntary, in my most sarcastic George Michael inner-monologue. Owner / management has highly questionable judgment as evidenced by his emailing their entire marketing list fresh off an Ayahuasca tourism excursion. While perhaps entertaining, it's giving acid casualty failson. Not a good lewk. I unsubscribed after that wild ride of an inbox-bomb. I have to wonder what *else* he's spammed his list with... but not enough to trust them with my email address anymore. Yikes. They seem to have convinced themselves their way is the one true way. They've raised the vibration so high in their own minds, it's spilling over and scrubbing the floors *for* them! Unfortunately, thinking something twice doesn't make it true (even on hallucinogens). Caveat emptor: BYOBleach. Note: this review is based on a single visit over a year ago. It is, of course, possible I had a rare bad experience / went on an off day. Once upon a not-so-relaxing day, my better half and I embarked on a journey to the mystical Ocean Lab - a place where relaxation and inner peace were said to be waiting for us in water-filled, soundproof chambers. Little did we know, we were about to dip our toes into a pool of confusion and awkwardness. PROS: *It was clean looking! CONS: *The parking conundrum - like a game of Tetris where no one wins. It was as if they said, "Good luck, adventurer, for you must first decipher the ancient parking runes!" They said there was parking in the parking garage but where? When I called to ask, while we were in the garage, no one answered. *Upon entering, we were met with... nothing. No warm greetings or friendly faces, just a sign that urged us to "own our sh*t" - an odd choice, I thought, for a sanctuary of tranquility. *When we finally met our Zen-master-guide-person, and he confirmed our appointment, the instructions were as clear as mud. "Go change," they said, as if we were meant to just, you know, figure it out. Look, I'm a grown ass man coming with my wife, I don't mind doing that, but if you're selling relaxation, how can you do that with these vibes? *When we made it to our actual room, there was two parts. The outer room where you shower and the inner room where you relax. A giant hatch door separates the two. The door to the shower room didn't lock, which is a fun surprise for anyone seeking peace and relaxation (especially when you're about to shower). *Instructions? Pfft, who needs 'em! They were so vague, we started questioning the cleanliness of the water. How many people come here for the first time, not knowing they have to shower first? I mean, you're relaxing in a tub, surely they clean the water between each visit? Or do they? Anxiety levels skyrocketing, we felt like Sherlock Holmes trying to solve the Case of the Mysterious Ocean Lab. *As my wife and I floated aimlessly in the chamber, (we scheduled 90 minutes) we discovered that the musical options were about as plentiful as a minimalist's wardrobe. We tried to change the music, but alas, it was a fruitless endeavor. After about 45 minutes my wife and I decided there wasn't a whole lot of relaxation happening, so we left early. The guy didn't even notice until we were almost out of the door, and we informed him that we appreciated the opportunity to try it out. In conclusion, our first-time non-athlete adventure to the Ocean Lab was a whirlwind of confusion and disappointment, much like going to a spa and receiving a massage from a sloth. A one star from me because this review is for anyone who is thinking about trying it like I was, and is unsure about what the experience will be for a first timer. I can't speak highly enough of this place. The woman who greeted us was so welcoming (Ivy). The space is immediately relaxing and easing. The staff truly has a passion for healing, wellness, and relaxation. The saunas were hot (we opted for private but there's community saunas available as well). We went for a cold plunge after Pilates and it was seriously the best thing I've done for muscle soreness/mental clarity. Besides that, the manager Ivy was working when we went in and the conversation was so delightful her energy was radiating, after our cold plunge she offered us tea (apple cider roobois I believe it was 10/10) and we sat in the lobby, they had oracle cards, books, and she lit incense it was such a relaxing atmosphere, we left with high spirits. I wanted to like this place but it wasn't for me. The float tank was spacious but what was weird was that the water was a bit oily? I also had moments where random pieces of hair would float my way and no, it wasn't my hair. Beginning of my float session was filled with thoughts of cleanliness etc. I know it's a small space but leaving the float tank area directed you right back to the main lobby with a slightly open/non private dressing room area to change and use bathrooms. Going from dark to normal light didn't help continue the decompression you receive from the session. My other float experience at True REST Float in South Lamar left me much more at peace. This is my comparator. The area has dim lighting and a lounge area where you can sit with low lighting, no external noise or overhearing people talking from the main lobby. Check it out and you'll see what I mean. It's a more Zen experience. Some positives for Ocean Lab. I did appreciate the light and music controls in the float tank. I also like that they had a cold plunge but this was something I didn't get to try during my visit. True REST float doesn't offer the cold plunge and instead collaborates with Lizard Lounge for this, last I heard. Unfortunately, the price is pretty expensive so I can't say that's a benefit for True Rest. Overall, not my vibe. I understand this will suit some people and their goals for floating but if you're looking for a more Zen/meditative experience I would suggest a different spot. read more

Granted I scheduled an impromptu ice bath at 7:30 in the morning, my experience was nothing like the other reviews. Walked in, unacknowledged until I asked where the cold plunge was. Place was dark and empty except one employee. I was lazily pointed to the baths out front and left to my own devices. I had to ask where I might change, get a towel and then had to figure out how to remove the cold plunge cover. No help, greeting or explanation. The bath itself was nice - i played some music on my phone to pass the time. It was clean and very cold. Only odd part was that they were just sitting outside by the front door. The feeling of weightlessness is unlike anything else you'll ever experience... like magic, your body becomes a cloud over the warm salt water... Alleviating all pressure and stress from your muscles and from your spine. If you're someone who feels compressed, sore or achey in your joints, muscles or bones (especially within your spine), this is a MUST TRY experience that you owe to yourself. Aside from the soothing decompression of floating on top of water (which is totally surreal!), Ocean Labs state-of-the-art float tank technology MADE the experience truly unforgettable. Their tanks are equipped with a starry sky (twinkling LED lights in the ceiling), subtly soft color changing lights to illuminate the salt water in the tank as well as an option for music. What's more is that you can control these features yourself within your tank during your session! I felt this really let me customize the experience to my relaxation preferences. It was my first float ever and it was terrific! All of the staff were very nice, getting me tea and showing me what to do. I wanted to try Ocean Lab for my first float because I'm a bit claustrophobic and their float cabins were larger than any other places I've looked at online. I also liked that you have a couple different options to ease into total darkness. The starry sky is nice to start. Shut that off and you can still see a little light coming through from the shower room the cabin is in. Or, you can turn those lights off too and float in complete darkness. I worked my way up to total darkness by about half way through and definitely saw why that's the recommended way to float. But as a first timer, having all those choices (and the bigger cabin) made the idea of floating much less intimidating! read more

The infrared sauna was nice but in terms of spa experience, subpar. There's a certain feel and energy and flow of a spa experience that this totally lacked. It felt haphazard, unprepared, and as though the owners and staff had themselves never patroned a spa before opening up this business. Even the interior design was wrong. I've been to places that provide so much more in terms of communication and experience and service and therefore value for the same price tag as here. read more

The Ocean Lab was a perfect wind down on a busy day. The entire experience from the start was enjoyable, and I am already ready for my next visit. The opening area is more of a lounge than a lobby. I was greeted and offered hot tea to begin my appointment...a nice unexpected treat. To start, I stretched in the infrared sauna and warmed my body up. Shortly after, I began my float! Ocean Lab was so wonderful. My boyfriend and I went in for a sauna sit and 30 minute float. Their float tanks are large enough for 2 people and actually built into the structure of the room, unlike other places I've been to that have smaller "pods." It's a true spa experience. Upon walking in, we were served tea. Then we got changed into our bathing suits and sat in the sauna. After this, we went into the float tank, which has the sound of ocean waves, as well as a beautiful light system that emulates a night's sky with twinkly stars. So relaxing! I highly recommend this place for a solo self care experience - or go with your lover or a good friend to experience this magic together. You will want to hang out in this space for a while after you float because you will be feeling super relaxed and peaceful. I, personally, would recommend not having committed plans after your session so that you can take full advantage of this peaceful space. The staff is amazing! High level service! If I could they would receive negative stars. I have ASD & ADhD, my therapist has recommended I try floating. Tonight my husband and I drove over an hour from temple, dropped our son off at a drop in childcare center in hhopes of a date night (we choose this location because of the reviews). We arrived and everything was great. Once we started floating I realized that the silence was to much for me to handle and that I needed some kind of sound to focus on.....well....the soundtrack didnt work, that caused frustration because I couldnt do the quiet so then my brain went to the slimy feeling on my skin from the water which really became overwhelming... got out about the 20 min mark (was going to shower and let my husband enjoy his float)....NO HOT WATER & NO WATER PRESSURE. So now im covered in salt, sensory overload, slipping on the floor and come to find out they have no hot water at all!!!!!! So i did the best I could to rinse off (the cold water made thing SO much worse), had an anxiety attack...its a whole freaking mess. Get dressed...realize i didnt bring a hair brush (we site says they have everything to just bring yourself...WRONG) So now we are driving to a store to get a hairbrush and im praying i can brush this crap out of my hair and make myself look at least somewhat ok so we can get dinner. They should have refunded us the moment we walked in since the owners knew they were having plumbing issues....but the guy working had no idea...no one told him ..... I will NEVER recomend or go back here ever again. Not worth the drive, the Childcare cost or the $120 for the couples float. read more

I had a great experience at the lab! As a first time floater, the staff made me feel right at home and the facilities are beautiful and super clean. I did 30 very spicy minutes in the infrared sauna and 30 minutes in the float tank. Both experience were really relaxing and very different from each other.
