I came here for a Third Thursday promotion for more than half off of their drop in prices so please keep this review in mind as someone that has not committed to a membership yet. Third Thursdays here introduced me to a third space that people are so often lacking in the 2020s. Ceremony is a social spa where it feels like a homestay with amenities geared towards wellness. It's not like those medical-inspired clinics where things feel sterile (albeit safe) and intimidating. It's inviting and warm to match their encouragement of conversation. I'm greeted by healthy plants, fresh pumpkin-apple-bread and a tour of the space. The main facilities are an indoor cold plunge, an outdoor barrel sauna (both pictured), an even colder outdoor cold plunge, and an even hotter indoor sauna. Showers and a restroom is available as well as other services relating to east Asian practices, massages, scrubs, etc. If you're feeling like you need a break, there's a few couches in a homey lounge to sit on. There was a tea event happening in one of the rooms as well. Despite coming for a scheduled event, it actually wasn't busy at all (probably because it's a come-and-go situation over the span of 3 hours). It gives way to organic conversation and movement around the space as you participate in contrast therapy. I recommend starting with the more mild temperature-d facilities before moving onto the higher magnitude ones. It's not a gigantic space, but it's something that you can only expect in similar cities like Austin where people are willing to make a space like this and are not hampered by extremely cold temperatures. Getting a pack of drop-ins is most economic option since you can get the price down to around $25 for usage of their facilities that day. They also don't seem like sticklers that make you feel watched or pressured about anything. I can imagine those that come here feel like they are friends with the people that work here. If you're looking to connect with people, your body, and yourself, this is a great place to try. read more

I'm new to Austin and had heard good things about this place, so I was genuinely looking forward to my visit--especially for the location and the calming vibe the website suggested. Unfortunately, my experience was quite different, and I left feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, as I know people are often doing their best and every business can have an off day. But for a service that cost over $140, I did expect a clean, professional, and relaxing environment. That was not the case. When I walked in, I could hear what sounded like an argument coming from the back. The hallway smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and something unpleasant--possibly sewage. I understand that everyone has different habits, but for a wellness business, that combination of smells immediately felt off-putting. The front desk staff barely acknowledged me. After a brief "Hey," they continued looking down at their phone with earbuds in, leaving me unsure of what to do. I sat down to wait. At one point, I accidentally dropped my phone and received a very unfriendly look from the staff member. When I bent down to pick it up, I noticed a lot of dust and grime on the floor and furniture. It was not something I had focused on initially, but in context, it stood out as another red flag. While I waited, someone came out of a room and began speaking very negatively about another client--making jokes about their body and hygiene with the front desk person. They didn't lower their voices or show any awareness that a guest (me) was sitting just a few feet away. As a plus-sized woman, hearing that kind of unkind, unfiltered commentary made me feel extremely uncomfortable and self-conscious. It also made me seriously question whether I should stay for my session. The restroom was also not in good shape. It had a strong sewage odor, masked by overpowering essential oils that gave me a headache within minutes. There was a water dispenser, which was appreciated--but no disposable cups. The glass cup provided still had a lipstick mark on the rim, which was just another sign of a lack of attention to hygiene. During the massage, things didn't improve. I could clearly hear more inappropriate conversations from the front--comments about clients' bodies, sexual innuendos, and laughter that made it difficult to relax. Between the smell, the awkward environment, and the skipping music, I felt more on edge than calm. The massage itself was, unfortunately, not much better. I had requested lighter pressure and more focus on my feet, but those requests were ignored. The therapist seemed disconnected, and the technique felt inconsistent--more like distracted poking and stroking than a cohesive, therapeutic massage. The therapist frequently took their hands off me, likely to fiddle with the music or something else, which disrupted the flow completely. I found myself just waiting for it to end. There were also issues with cleanliness during the session. The towels smelled musty, possibly even scorched, and I could detect body odor when the therapist was near my head. It was honestly very uncomfortable. In short, there were serious concerns with professionalism, hygiene, and the overall atmosphere. I truly hope this business takes the time to address these issues, because the concept has promise. But based on my experience, I won't be returning. Not what I had hoped for paying so much.. I booked a deep tissue massage here which was $145 which is a pretty expensive massage so I was expecting a really good treatment. Unfortunately I cannot in good faith recommend Ceremony to anyone for massages. During my entire massage, I could hear loud lobby conversations that the front desk person was having. My massage was extremely unrelaxing because of that :( not courteous and I was shocked at the service and unwillingness to make things right after sharing helpful feedback to them. read more

I had such a great experience here. Zero complaints. I was greeted by the nice staff upon arrival. I used a friends leftover ClassPass credits to do an 80 minute full body massage with Charlie. This was the best massage I've ever had! He made me feel very comfortable, relaxed, and I liked that I was able to give him feedback on amount of pressure or certain spots that needed extra massaging. I'm very picky with my massages and Jillian surpassed my expectations. I booked a 110-minute Deep Tissue massage with Jillian who spent every minute paying attention to what I needed. Jillian was very intuitive to apply the appropriate techniques to address issues I voiced while offering additional modalities I hadn't considered. After my massage, I was churned into butter. I was so pleased with my experience (my first with Work Well) that I purchased a membership. I highly recommend Jillian. Work Well is located in a quaint bungalow that's filled with aromas of palo santo, geranium, and other beautiful scents. It's a welcoming space that's serious about healing and bodywork. read more

This place has been hiding in plain sight! Since 2015 I've tried places throughout Austin and very few have been stellar. I was referred here my my nail artist. The online portal was easy to book through. The best part is the hours!! This place is open late - which is amazing because it's not always possible to just roll through during the work day. I got a 50 mins deep tissue with Yera. I appreciated that Yera actually listened to what I was saying bothered me. Yera was able to get into a few spots in that time and give me a great full body. I can tell within the first few movements Yera KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING! so many places (specifically another fancy place on south Lamar) have a lot of people coming and going so you get someone who might not know a lot of techniques. Highly disappointed in WorkWell Austin! I called on December 14th for a last-minute massage. Luckily there was an opening. I was excited to say the least. I had been in such discomfort for the past week. When I arrived there was debate on who would take my session and I felt a bit awkward that the discussion was happening while I was sitting there. After getting in the room, I was asked about pressure level and also what issues I might be having. I asked for a deep tissue and also stated that I like firm pressure. Gave a response to areas of focus. Neither of those things ever happened and the therapist decided to wait until 10mins into the session to state he needed to excuse himself because he forgot his oil in the other room. The massage started off horribly and there where so many times I wanted to say something but felt awkward. At times I also felt uncomfortable with his massage technique in certain areas. This had never happened to me before. I felt it has to get better, yet it never did. Also, I HATE feet! When I opened my eyes during the massage, I could see he had his shoes off and was bare foot. Honestly it wouldn't have been an issue if the massage hadn't been so awful! It never got better and at the end I was so baffled that I just said thanks and left and paid. I left feeling just as horrible body wise as when I arrived. I have had a plethora of massages. I have even worked at a massage place, and this has never happened to me. The worst part is I messaged them on their site to let them know how unhappy and horrible my experience was. That paying $160 for a service that makes someone feel the way I did when I left was heartbreaking. The kicker is there was no response back from a manger/owner etc. I definitely will never return and cannot believe there was never a response to a dissatisfied customers email. read more

Entering the back door of a sweet cottage nestled in Travis Heights feels like you're dropping by to share a chat with your aunt & uncle. Even the wait resembles a family visit -- sitting in the kitchen sipping green tea while you fill out your paperwork, as the last patrons chat with their massage therapists before meeting the world again. The paperwork asks questions that allow your therapist to customize their skills to your preferences. "What do you look for in a massage therapist?" "How much pressure do you prefer in your massages?" When you finally settle under a patchwork quilt, your massage therapist has the ammunition they need to infuse your muscles with homemade chicken noodle soup. -- In my case, that included incredibly necessary loosened shoulders & surprisingly appreciated toe pops. read more

I really like Work Well! It's conveniently located close to where Lamar meets Manchaca in South Austin, and getting an appointment is relatively simple. This is important to me, because I tend to book things with only a few days' notice. There's also plenty of parking which is a big plus in this neighborhood! I do the $50/month membership that provides discounted pricing on massage services. For the price of each month's membership, you receive a 50 minute Swedish massage (or $50 toward a different discounted service). The massages "rollover" each month, which is handy since my free time is limited some months. I've gotten massages from Asenath and Kyle. Both of them are great with very different massage styles. She asked me if I would like to add on my Groupon massage to one of the packages for $10.00.. I said yes. I can't remember the name but it involved hot packs and oils. I really just wanted a really good massage but I felt bad about the Groupon cheap massage. The MT I got was young and I think maybe new therapist. She was sweet and made small talk with me. They massage was not up to my standard. It was light work and didn't last that long. In order to get the client coming back just give a good massage. What I got was a nap. I have had a lot of massages from both men and women, and this one was uncomfortable. A little too personal and sensual from a male masseuse, for my comfort level. I absolutely love Work Well and I'm so glad I tried it. I loved it so much my first time around that I joined their membership program after my massage so now I keep going back. I first discovered Work Well as a groupon deal and bought it for my girlfriend as a gift. I'm always skeptical of new massage places because I have pretty high standards and I've received a wide variety of massages in terms of quality and style. When she came back raving about it because she was really impressed with the attention to detail and truly technical knowledge that her massage therapist Asenath possessed, I said decided there was no harm in me trying. For my visit, I actually used the Yelp deal. They promptly offered me tea while I was filling out the initial paperwork in a very nice kitchen in a cute old house. My first massage was with Miski and she was very attentive, checking in with me periodically on pressure, pain, where there was tension etc. I was impressed enough that I booked a second appointment, but decided to try Mario my second time around. Since my visit with Mario, I have been returning to Work Well at least once a month. He was one of the first massage therapists that I've interacted with that took a holistic approach and asked me about diet, exercise, my job, etc to get a good sense of the strain on my body. On top of that he operates more as a "body worker", with a deep understanding of muscular and skeletal structure to improve functioning, than a simple relaxation massage of just rubbing your muscles to get out that stray knot. I highly recommend Work Well. Every experience I've had has been superb, from scheduling online, receiving notifications of my appointments via email, and setting up the membership so I pay less to get a massage every month. If you're a student, last time I talked with them, they're willing to provide you with the membership package with a massage every other month so it's not as much of a financial hit. Additionally, to my knowledge they don't accept insurance, but they will provide you with an invoice so you can bill your insurance. read more
