Just got back from Bos Taurus for husband's birthday, and I feel like this restaurant is over rated. The service was great, everyone was very friendly, and the atmosphere was nice but the food was subpar for the price. If you are going to charge that much for dishes/wine you are setting expectations and when things are over salted and or lack balance it becomes inexcusable. Left down $400 for 2 people and feeling bummed that we couldn't finish our food because the flavor was so disappointing. Wine also was not great for price. read more

One of the best restaurant experiences, my bros and I have ever had! We were celebrating one of my closest buddies, since T-ball years, for his 50th. Not only were the steaks top notch with a crust that was like no other, but you get to choose your own steak knives! Tommy and Gracie were amazing servers that were knowledgeable and provided impeccable service! The food was excellent on par with the best of restaurants. We spent around $450 of total but it was okay experience. Miyazaki Wahyu wasn't cooked perfectly, and it was close to rare in the middle and my Petit Filet Mignon came out naked with nothing, so I recommend to order sides. Busser person was trying to remove my Hawaiian Albacore Crudo plate while I was still scooping last bite and it was an awkward moment. They expanded outside seating and this RV guy was almost hit 8 of us. This moment totally killed my mood and everybody was yelling at him "We are all fine, just go! Ruuuuun!!." This may have been the most pretentious dining experience I've ever had. "What we're known for at Bos Taurus" must have been said at least 10 times. "Here at Bo's Taurus we serve our oysters on the half shell". Oh! Is that how you do it here? As opposed to the other, inferior ways of serving oysters? Everything was explained to me like I'd never eaten steak before. I ordered my steak medium rare and he proceeds to tell me what medium rare means and confirm that's what I meant. I'm nearly 45. I know what medium rare means. It took two hours to get through the meal and at least 25 minutes of that experience was having every ingredient on the menu explained like they invented it. We recently visited Bos Taurus and unfortunately, it was a extremely disappointing experience. The steak that I ordered was tough and lacked flavor. I was particularly disappointed to discover that it was not dry-aged as advertised on their menu. The sides that accompanied the steak were lackluster and did not complement the dish well. The normally fantastic dinner rolls provided at the start of the meal were not even warm! We ordered the dry aged NY & dry aged Ribeye and they had absolutely no flavor at all of being aged in any manner. My wife's steak was very tough and honestly when asked by the very well trained and gracious server if she would like a box to take home the remaining ( about 1/2 of the steak ) portion of her meal home, she declined. We were a party of 4 and have dined at Bos Taurus on six other occasions over the past five years while living in Bend and had a great experience. We had a total of three cocktails, four steaks and no desert. The bill prior to gratuity was $444.00. We left Bos Taurus extremely unimpress and frankly ... robbed. On a very positive note, our server was wonderful and very attentive. Given the high prices, our past experiences and reputation of the restaurant, I expected much more. Sadly, I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality steakhouse experience. It could be just a bad night for Bos Taurus, but when you are paying over $500 dollars for a meal, you need to rise to the occasion. The owners just freak me out with knowing Bend, restaurants, bars, beer, beef, ramen, and now taco's and they do it all right, at least for us they do. This visit, we did not make reservations, which is highly recommended, and we sat at the bar cuz that's what you do if you were too lazy to make reservations but we were offered a table! I actually like the people who work here as they just seem to get it, we appreciated the offer but stayed at the bar. We're here to drop some coin, $200-$400, have a bottle of wine, experience some food, and just relax. On all of our visits, we have been more than impressed with their level of service. My wife is from Manhattan and I LA and SF, so we're very appreciative of the show and this place has it, please keep it. If you are so concerned about money or exactly what something may taste like, just ask. The waitstaff here is very knowledgable and deal with these questions everyday. I lived in Japan and ate a lot of beef over there as they like to show off with incredibly expensive business marathon meal extravaganzas, I have had the very best and most expensive Kobe' in the world and now we have Bos Taurus here in Bend that can give you a peek into this Wagyu beef thing. Not saying Bos Taurus has the worlds best beef, but very good and it's here in Bend and a bargain compared to cost in Tokyo. 10 stars if I could!! Or maybe more. This was hands down the best meal I have ever had in Oregon, and probably in my top 3 of all time. Came here for our anniversary dinner and wow it blew us away. Josh gave us fantastic service and was super informative with all of our questions. The popovers with bay leaf honey butter and volcanic salt were amazing. We started off with champagne and oysters, those were so clean and delicious, and shucked perfectly. Next hamachi crudo which was excellent, and the steak tartare which was BY FAR the best one I've ever had. So much flavor and the texture was spot on. I got the summer spritz cocktail and my husband got the smoked Manhattan. We each loved ours. Ok so on to the Wagyu - holy wow, this was a life changing, out of body experience and the first time I've had true Japanese Wagyu. It is 1000% worth the hefty price tag ($35-$39 per oz). We got the Miyazaki A5 (NY strip loin) and the Kyoto A5 (tenderloin). I truly can't decide which we liked better, they were each beyond incredible in their own ways. So good I could just cry. We brought our own bottle of wine (2016 Woodward Canyon Old Vines Cab from Walla Walla) and the pairing was fantastic. That was an experience I'll never forget. Next we shared an 8oz Cedar River Farms filet Mignon and gosh I can't even describe how perfectly cooked and tender it was. We topped it with Dungeness crab and got the brown butter bearnaise and horseradish cream sauces on the side. It was a match made in heaven. Before it came out, Josh came over with a knife presentation (which my husband LOVED) and we got to learn about them and pick our steak knives. That was a fun experience! Lastly dessert, which kind of has me lost for words - the foie gras budino, since we were feeling adventurous. I can't really even describe it but I CAN tell you to absolutely try this as it was the most unique and delicious dessert that I think I've ever had! It kinda blew our minds. I live about 3.5 hrs away from Bend but I will absolutely be back here, it's worth the drive and worth the price. Amazing experience. We were visiting from out of town, but found this on a search for good restaurants in the area. The food was outstanding. We had the oysters as an appetizer, followed by 2oz of the A5 Wagyu as another starter. It was so delicious but rich enough that could not have eaten a much larger serving. We then went with individual steaks that were cooked perfectly and potato purée as a side. Everything was fantastic. Our server Drew was knowledgeable, charming and made the experience even better. Horrible treatment over what one of our quest said to the waitress. He simply asked for her to have one of his steaks rarer than the other. She replied "I don't have a button for that" my guest replied back to the waitstaff "just talk to the chef." It seemed harmless until the manager came up telling him to not treat staff that way. Bos Taurus is an intimate version of Urban Farmer, Swift & Sons, Keens, etc. It's a high end feast without the pretentious air, keeping it very friendly and consistent with what locals and visitors expect in Bend. My wife and I spent a special date night at BT and served by our friendly waiter Todd. The pace of the restaurant is a culinary saunter so don't expect to sit, eat, and go. The ambiance, during this off and on rainy evening, was just what we were looking for in a romantic night together. There's a good list of wine choices and respectful selection of cuts of meat. We were happy with the Australian Waygu cooked to perfection. I highly recommend their fries which is off the menu, but provided if asked. The cooks, and there's a small platoon of them which seems more than enough for the size of the restaurant (which is a good thing) were extremely attentive and quite entertaining to see (so you may not want to look out into the streets and rather sit and watch the performance in the kitchen). The only downside, and this is my general criticism of Bend, is the best dressed people are the waiting staff. It's my biased opinion as I've lived in large cities in the past and it adds to the ambiance when people actually dress up for a special night rather than always wearing the "Bend issued uniform" of poofy jackets, baseball caps...the usual lazy attire. But I digress. Bos Taurus is one of the better restaurant in Bend and if you're like me, tired of the food trucks, mid-tiered restaurants reheating premade food, fast food, bar food, and just want something more special, Bos Taurus is a good choice! read more

But saw lots of good reviews about Bos Taurus yet still hesitant as we are from big city with lots of choices of good steak. First, the restaurant is small, cozy and intimate. The decor was simple yet elegant. A perfect place for date night, celebration, or having a delicious meal with your . Food was amazing! Every single plate we ordered did not disappoint. BF and I agreed it was one of best steak meals we had in long time. We started with the wedge salad, perfectly paired with crispy yet tender pork belly, red onion, heirloom tomatoes topped with blue cheese. Then we had the Foie Gras Wontons, Miyagi ChillOil, Plum Jam. Oh my! Did not expect to be so delicious. Then we had 2oz Matsusaka A5*, Mie Prefecture, Japanese wagu paired with FAR EAST, Spring Yuzu Kosho, Barrel Aged Shoyu. Then We had Sanchoku, Queensland, AUs - Wagyu Hybrid 16oz ribeye perfectly grilled medium rare topped with Roasted Bone Marrow with Morels & Ramps and side of crispy brussel sprouts. Lastly, we ended the meal with FOIE GRAS BUDINO and blue cheese ice cream dipped in chocolate with hazelnut. (Blue cheese ice cream is the only thing we did not enjoy.) My god was this place fantastic. With wooden tables and warm light, it's a set in a beautiful space. The service is friendly, and our food was wonderful. Three things were among the best I've ever had: steak tartare, with fried artichoke and tonnato (tuna-based Italian condiment); bone marrow, made with garlic, squid, and shallots; popovers; and chicory salad, with toasted puffed quinoa providing a nutty crunch. The miyazaki steak was thickly cut and seared to perfection, but if I could change one thing, I'd preferred it thinly cut in the Japanese style to highlight the umami of the meat. My lone disappointment was the "made to order" ice cream. Overly heavy, it lacked much textural contrast. We sat outside on a warm day, it was refreshing and service was great. Friendly wait staff, attentive, and helpful. We ordered the Allen bros. petit filet and Sanchoku Queensland Wagyu. We wanted to order something we couldn't get normally at the butcher. As a steak connoisseur, very well prepared and I noticed cuts are evenly flat at the 14oz level, you can see in this pic. Nice touch on letting you pick a specific steak knife. Wife picked a nice heavy one, I picked one with a thicker handle due to my large hands. One critical item was the Sanchoku steak being over salted. When you spend 75 dollars on a ribeye, you are hoping to really taste the flavor, marbelling, how the juices are all intertwined. But I just got so much saltiness that I had to continuously drink water to neutralize. This was pretty intense, needed like 3 glasses of water. The filet was a tad better, I was thinking the chef may have gone overboard with the salt for the ribeye. The appetizers were patata brave and brussel sprouts, very good and generous portions for two people. Good wine list. Again for us, service was great. I don't know what more I could say about this place. Possibly the best steakhouse experience I have ever had. From the creative non-steak menu items to the service, everything was on point and interesting pretty reasonable for a high-end steakhouse. For a such small restaurant and in a small city, they had some of the most interesting boutique meat purveyors. I love steaks from traditional milk production cows (so hard to find) and they had a beautiful dry aged holstein rib eye. We also got an Aussie wagyu bavette which was really tasty as well. Our server Todd was fantastic. Warm, personable, knowledgable, professional service. Years ago I worked front of house in a high-end steak house and couldn't even imagine being this good. It was a pleasure meeting the chef George and his team as well and them taking my kids into the kitchen to make liquid nitro ice cream with them. What a treat! First, I tried to make a reservation but they were all gone. The host called me and was able to fit us in. There aren't many seats/tables so we got lucky. My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. Michael seated us right away. We were fortunate to get a seat upstairs at Todd's area. We were offered champagne since it was our anniversary, a nice touch for sure. We enjoyed the bubbly and then ordered drinks. After drinks, Todd went over the menu with us. Honestly, my wife and I looked over the menu online before our dinner so we knew basically what we were going to order. Todd was amazing. A super kind and soothing voice. So, it's our anniversary and we're on vacation so A5 Waygu is happening tonight. We ordered the A5 New York, 16 oz 14 day dry aged NY, brussel sprouts, squash and onion rings, farmers market salad, all family style. Todd suggested how food would come out and asked it that would be ok. Hey, we're in your territory so we went with his suggestion. Starting with the A5, palette cleanser with the salad, and then the rest of the dinner. We only ordered 2 oz of the Waygu, cause it's our anniversary.....we're not ballers. It was the first time trying it and honestly, why we chose this restaurant, all the hype about A5, is so justified. It really does melt in your mouth. The flavor is beefy yet delicate. I love the seared salty crust against the tender interior. AMAZING!!! The salad was delicious and they split it up onto separate plates for each of us. Then we got to choose our knifes. The 14 day aged steak came our cut away from the bone but intact. So, I got to cut it ourselves. The sides were great. When my wife stepped away to use the facilities, they actually refolded her napkin...so fancy. We finished off dinner with the made to order ice cream. Peanut butter chocolate banana. Apparently they use liquid nitrogen to made individual servings. Super creamy. The pace of dinner is relaxing. It looks snooty but certainly doesn't feel it. My landmark 300th review goes to a very special restaurant. The comparison I hold Bos Taurus to is my hometown favorite - Alexander's Steakhouse in San Francisco. Bear in mind Alexander's boasts a meticulously curated beef program with emphasis on small farms from the US Australia, and Japan. They have the largest variety of Wagyu Steak in the U.S. (10 types of Wagyu from 9 different prefectures). They highlight dry-aged beef which is my preference unless I'm I the mood for Bobo's wet aged beef. The carefully curated award winning wine list makes me really happy - but when I want to bring a bottle from my home cellar, they decant it by candlelight because they know what they are doing. Now that we have a strong idea of the type of steakhouse I am familiar with, prefer, and visit as often as possible... Bos Taurus is an oasis in the food desert that is Bend, Oregon. The majority of restaurants that are comparable with San Francisco's culinary excellence can be found near Wall Street. Bos Taurus hits all the marks that I look for in a great steakhouse. Quality beef - regardless of the cut you choose. Every piece is perfectly aged, prepared to the temperature you request, and each bite is delicious! The wine list includes one of my Bay Area favorites, Chateau Montelena. It also has great offerings from the Williamette Valley. This makes drinking local a viable option. The service is outstanding. I personally prefer professional servers who know the menu and can discuss it with confidence. Whether I am inquiring about a cut of beef or a bottle of wine - I have consistently been given accurate answers that validated my choice or steered me to something better suited for what I was in the mood for. The venue itself is intimate - like a French restaurant. The design is similar to what we'd see in SOMA. Minimalist, masculine, modern. The Kobe is well priced and delicious. The entire menu is beautifully coordinated. If you are gluten free like me, the back of house is happy to accommodate your dietary needs. Excellent food and service! Really enjoyed our first visit Had the 36 Hour Pork Collar starter, then Black Label Hanger (Waygu hybrid) steak and lastly the Butterscotch desert. Some of the best food Bend has to offer. Ambiance was great for our date night. Nice table upstairs overlooking the downstairs. Damian was our server and took us though the entire menu since it was our 1st time there. That was fun! Also the various steak knife selection they bring out for you to choose from is fun! I couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was such a treat, the food was really spectacular, the service was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, and overall, it was a perfect celebration. The wine selection is also fantastic. The Patricia Green 2019 Sauvignon Blanc and North Valley Souter Vineyards 2018 Pinot Noir were particularly excellent. THE STANDOUTS - Steak tartare with fried artichokes and tonnato: by far one of the best steak tartares I've ever had. Finely chopped, it was fresh as could be, and so nicely balanced texturally and flavor-wise. - Bone Marrow with XO sauce, fried squid, black garlic, and fried rice: the bone marrow is scooped tableside into the fried rice and then you mix it all up. It's punchy and intense, and the fatty marrow blends perfectly. - Chicories Salad: a creamy hazelnut sauce over radicchio, endive, with bunches of toasted puffed quinoa was again so perfectly balanced, yet rich and refreshing -- we had this alongside our steak, and it was just what we wanted - Flannery Holstein 16-day dry age bone-in NY Strip: perfectly seared with ground pepper and salt, beautiful and umami-heavy, perfect to share between two especially with all the other dishes We really enjoyed the Japanese Miyazaki Waugh NY Strip Loin though it is quite pricey. It's served differently here than in say Kyoto, as it's more thickly cut and heavily seared and peppered. We enjoyed it but would probably skip it on a second visit. The only thing we would have passed on was the made for order ice cream bowl which was styled as peaches and cream, but was too heavy on cream and too heavy overall, especially after such a meaty meal. This is a great spot. It was such a treat. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful and for my boyfriend's and my birthday they gave us complimentary champagne. We wanted to try so much so we did 3 starters , 2 sides and one sizable steak all to share. It's a great way to taste as much of the menu as you can. Had an amazing 10th wedding anniversary dinner at Bos Taurus last Saturday(26th Jan). The staff did everything to make our day memorable. From the complimentary champagne toast + a glass of non-alcoholic bubbly for our little girl, to the card, to the perfectly cooked melt in your mouth steaks and sides to the kid-friendly ice cream and impeccable service. Wow - what an amazing spot! We are visiting friends in town and during my research for our trip, i found Bos Taurus. As my husband is a huge fan of red meat, i got the reservation down a month in advance. Fast forward and we arrive in Bend and hear nothing but good things about Bos Taurus so we are excited. We were celebrating our anniversary. The hostess seated us right away. When our waiter greeted us, he brought over 2 glasses of champagne for our celebration. My husband doesn't drink so he also offered to ask the bartender to make him a mock tail instead. That was such a nice touch! Anyways, our server was absolutely amazing. He went through the whole menu with us and gave us recommendations. He knew his stuff. I love when waiters are passionate about the restaurant and food. It definitely shows. We got some apps and steak (obviously). To drink, i got the Me Llamo Monica - it's like a margarita made with mezcal. I like mezcal so it was an amazing drink. Apps: Pork cheeks - melt in your mouth and so so amazingly good. Served on top of a bed of polenta and topped with some cabbage. Definitely worth trying As an app, we had 2 oz of the Wagyu NY Strip Loin. They come pre-cut and provide you with tweezers to eat. My mouth is watering writing this as i think about that ounce of meat. WOW. The flavor was through the roof. It was cooked to perfection and wow. I have no real words to describe it. It's definitely worth the price tag. We got it as an appetizer and each had an ounce strip. Next time, we're saving our money to get more of this. Yes, it's pricey but definitely worth it. Now the rest of the steaks - I got the petite filet mignon - it was cooked to perfection. Outside was crispy in all the right places and the inside was *chefs kiss* perfect. Husband got the ribeye (i can't recall exactly which one) - he said it was amazing! His plate was cleaned up when he was done. For sides we got the papas bravas and the Brussel sprouts. Solid choices and they were both flavorful. There's some sort of flavor on the potatoes that i couldn't put my finger on but it was my favorite. Overall, an amazing experience. We left with full bellies and the Wagyu on our mind for next time. If i could have done anything different, it would have been to have the Wagyu come after the steaks. I don't want to say it ruined our steaks ( because they were also amazing), but once you have a taste of the Wagyu, you're pretty much ruined forever (in the best way possible) LOL read more

This place has been on my list for a while. I normally hit the Blacksmith, it always delivers. This place hit a home run. I ate alone at the bar. Their Weller old fashioned is legit. I loved everything about this place; and I am picky. Popover bread was great; I had the pressed Caesar with anchovies. It was excellent and big enough that you could share. I had a dry aged NY steak; a Holstein steak!?!?! It was excellent and definitely had its own flavor, a nutty, buttery, grassy flavor. So good. And with the mashed potatoes--they were perfect. For dessert, a house made chocolate/peanut butter ice cream. It was like crack in a bowl. The service of the bartender, I should have grabbed his name, was first rate.
