This place is a great bar on top of the ski mountain at the Alyeska Resort. The bar tender was such a sweet guy. He told us all about the drink menu, food menu and town. He makes great Bloody Mary's. The price is high, you have to either take the tram up for $30 or hike up a 2.4 2000 elevation hike to get there. We took the free hike up, and free tram ride down. We enjoyed sitting in the restaurant over looking the beauty of Girdwood. I would recommend having a drink and taking in the views!

Bought $20 voucher for $10 when buying tram tickets. Tram leaves every 15 min. Deli has good selection but pricey ... Conversely the bar is reasonable. .16 oz Alyeska Brewski Pale on tap $5

The selection up here isn't great - but you can hardly disagree with the quality of the food and the customer service. If you're looking for fine dining, the Seven Glaciers restaurant is nextdoor but only open for dinner and I believe also only on weekends. I ordered one of the daily specials, the fish po'boy. At first I wasn't sure what to expect with the brightly colored pepper slaw, but after my first bite I was hooked. The fish was a breaded cod but it wasn't fishy tasting or smelling. The sweet slaw provided a nice contrast to the fish. I also ordered the seafood chowder, which I could not finish because the po'boy was filling! It was a delicious chowder, and I would highly recommend it! Oh yeah, and you can't find a better view for lunch!

I took the tram up and included in the price was $20 for food. I had the chicken fingers and fries. It was fine, but the glacier views were wonderful!

The place was small but it's not busy season yet so we were seated quickly and the food was served in a reasonable amount of time. I read another review that said the place smelled like smoke, and while it did smell a little like fry oil, I feel like the smell went away and the food and company far outweighed any odd smells. We had the mussels, crab legs, salmon dip, grilled halibut, stuffed mushrooms and Cesar salad. It was all great!

**POOR SERVICE BY THE OWNER: GROUP OF ARRIVING CRUISE CUSTOMERS**…read moreWe arrived in Anchorage after a wonderful 9-day cruise and decided to stop by Basecamp Eatery with a group of 22 people around 1 p.m. The young lady serving us was very friendly and accommodating. Our group leader had previously tried to make a reservation, but the restaurant advised us simply to come in. To streamline the ordering process, we used the menu on their website to place our orders before arriving but that did not work out. Upon our arrival and after being seated, the initial service from the young lady was pleasant. However, I noticed a change when the owner arrived and began serving some of us. The first issue I encountered was a price discrepancy of about $5.00 between the website menu and the in-restaurant menu. This discrepancy made it seem as if there was one menu for tourists and another for locals. The owner was not friendly at all; he failed to inform us, as most waitstaff would, that there would be an upcharge for certain items offered as part of the meal. When he asked, "Do you want chowder or chips?" he neglected to mention that a tiny cup of chowder cost $5.00 more, which was not worth it. Instead, he acted as if it was included in our meal until you got your bill, which is deceptive. His demeanor was cold and uncaring, and it seemed he simply wanted us to leave based on how he treated us. After delivering the food, he never returned to check on us and simply handed us the bill in a detached manner. When I questioned him about the $5.00 upcharge, he pointed to the small print on the menu without saying a word. Others in our group experienced similar treatment from him. As a managing director for a major airline with over 36 years of travel experience, I have never encountered such poor and deceptive behavior as I did at Basecamp Eatery. It seemed like he truly had a problem with customers like us. I shared my experience with our bus driver and the travel company we booked with, expressing my dissatisfaction with the restaurant. I recommended that they NEVER bring customers back to this establishment. Keep in mind that our group spent over $600 at this business, and this was the treatment we received.

If food alone was what I'm rating, this place would be a 3 or 4. I, myself, ordered the French toast breakfast with poached eggs and bacon. The food was fitting and definitely delicious. Price is a little iffy for the amount given, but the quality of the food was amazing. My family liked their food as well. However, removing the food aspect from the equation, the service was a bit off putting. From a simple glance around the room, there was a CLEAR difference how our table was treated in contrast to other tables from the way we were spoken to, checked on, and assisted, and I am sad to say it was not in a good way. I hope that this is a one time thing where the woman who assisted us was having a bad day, but with her showing kindness to other tables, but appearing as if we were a drag to assist throughout the whole meal, it's quite a disheartening feeling. I may try out this place again (maybe not for breakfast) but at the time being, this place is not somewhere I'd recommend.

Due to the crush of guests, we couldn't get a table so we opted for take-out. We took a chance on the Bibimap (sp?). It was an appropriate dish for an at home meal, but without the heated bowl it comes in. On the way back from Homer we stopped again in Girdwood, this time with a reservation! Our server seated us in the romantic Garden Room", which we always opt for. This garden room is cozy, beautiful and the guests seated there have always been friendly and interesting. We all seem to treat that room like the proverbial "family" room! We started of with a tasting of a wine we wern't familiar with, and which I still can't remember its name! Our server (Blanca) was a true four star waitress. Intelligent, friendly, observant of our needs, and even those that we didn't know we needed! She took the time, even though the restaurant was packed, to clarify the menu, listen to our bragging about our 59th anniversary. She made the whole evening more joyful that we had even hoped it would be. We ordered the Filet Mignon, as per her Recommendation, and topped it with a bottle of Silver Oak. The meat, Blanca explained to us, was from a specific farm in the US. We've eaten lots of filets in lots of restaurants, but this one was right at the top of the heap. At our age this is "dangerous" as we could opt more often for the beef, than the healthier foods Jack Sprat has to offer. Dessert was the "simple" chocolate mouse. Yep, lieke everything else we ordered that night, it was an excellent topper off. We've had several meals over the years at Jack Sprats. We think, like the Silver Oak, they are getting better with age. Yep, we'lll be back, Jack!

We did get the dip bread appetizer about 15 minutes after ordering which helped. Then we waited another full hour after finishing it before our food arrived. The food was inconsistent. The chow fun noodles were undercooked. More like al dente pasta which does not work for a Chinese dish. The burgers came with fries that were cold and hard. They did fix that quickly and brought fresh fries which were much better. The wagyu burger was the biggest disappointment. The meat tasted very gamey. That is not what you expect from wagyu which should be rich and buttery. I ended up trying to cover the taste with toppings just to eat it. Not enjoyable. Our child did enjoy her grass fed beef burger and had no complaints. The atmosphere is great. Live music adds a nice touch. We also liked the shop next door and the outdoor wood fire. We like this place and wanted it to be a great experience. The food and timing just missed the mark this time. Hoping they improve because the setting is really nice.

We've tried the seaweed salad, a couple of their sushi rolls, and an assortment of other items. My new favorite thing might be the crispy spicy ahi bites. Each bite a perfect size, so crunchy and with a thin slice of Jalapeño on top. I also enjoyed the steamed pork gyoza, each one super succulent and tasty. My husband tried the fried chicken thigh with tartar sauce, which was delicious. The chicken was super flavorful and the tartar sauce was like egg salad but worked with the flavors which was a nice surprise. We like splitting a large 22 oz bottle of Sapporo, but we have also liked ordering a small bottle of sake to share in lieu of dessert. The last time we went I got the gluten-free chocolate cake which was pretty good but laughably tiny in size ($10). Wait times can vary depending on the day you go and time, we've been seated immediately (party of 2) as well as waited an hour for a table. Speaking of which, you may be seated at their largest table which they also seat other parties, so it feels a bit communal as opposed to private. Sakura has maintained their quality in food over the years and their waitstaff are excellent each time we go. I always look forward to time spent here and you can't go wrong with anything you choose on the menu.
