First off, let me say that I didn't want to write this, I was hoping that I could've written a positive review about my experience working for Wildman's. But alas, I can not. I feel it is important to let others know how poorly they treat their employees.
I started working for Wildman's in March, I am originally from Virginia, and came across the country to work for them. I was excited at first. I did let them know before coming up that I had to leave mid-June to go back to my other job. They said they were fine with it. However, during a staff meeting, I had to remind them of my departure. They decided they weren't too pleased with that. About three days later, they decided to lay me off. Their excuse: "Lack of Motivation." which is full Malarkey. If you knew any of my coworkers of past jobs, that is a false statement. I wouldn't of come all the way from Virginia to work for these people. Yes, I made a few mistakes, My background is working in Museums, so naturally I would make a mistake here and there. No more than others, no one is perfect.
They said that I had two weeks to make enough money to get a plane ticket home. I did manage to find a friend to stay with so I can stay the length of my time in Alaska. The manager asked me when I was leaving, I told her my answer. I figured I'd give my friend enough time to notify her lnadlord, and get things situated. A day or two later, they decided to lay me off 6 days earlier then promised. Which, I believe they were trying to make me homeless, which is pretty heartless.
Before I left, I had to work 9 days in a row, 8 hours a day with only a 15 minute break. Even then, there were times my break was cut short. In Virginia, it is mandatory that all state facilities must give their employees a 45 minute break (Unpaid) if you are working 6 hour shift, an optional 30 minute break (unpaid) or a paid 15 minute break. I'm not exactly sure what the laws require for private businesses', I noticed during the end of that stretch that my feet were literally turning blue because of the constant running around, and standing with so little break. The owners expect us to make sure everything is perfect and expect us to work in the place of three people.
I'd also like to add that I do have a heart defect, called "Tetralogy of Fellot" and had three open heart surgeries. I have given the owner my medical records and explained what comes with this defect. All she did was print an extra copy, but didn't even take a look at my medical records.
The owners and upper management do not treat their employees with respect. There is a high turn over at Wildman's. I've had to say good bye to two employees because they feared for their health during the COVID-19 situation. They took no precautions when it came to the health and safety of their employees. They didn't even shut down the dining room when it was required by law to all restaurants to shut down their dining rooms because of the pandemic.
I've been in the customer service field for about 10 years, I know the difference between management and leadership, I can honestly say that the owners show no leadership what so ever. A leader is someone who encourages their staff and fellow employees, when someone makes a mistake, a leader is someone who teaches them the right way to do it, they don't belittle and embarrass their staff for making a mistake. A leader is someone who works among their staff to make sure the day is successful, instead, they sit in the office the majority on their behinds and very rarely helped their staff members on a busy day.
I just thought I'd let people know how they treat their employees. With disrespect, and they use people like people use toilet paper. Once there is no use, they toss them out. read more
