It looks like it has been out of order for a very long time. As you look around the outside of the station it is dirty and the fuel pumps need servicing. To try and get some assistance from the employees on where another dump station might be in the area, we were met with " Yeah, that way (pointing toward Anchorage), it's called Anchorage!" Another quote was "Can't you read the sign!!" The management of this station in regard to functioning services, stock, and cleanliness and employee treatment of customers is nonexistent and has been so for an extended period. Recommend you find another location for fuel and services because you will not know what is available and what is not.

I couldn't see anything in my mirrors that I might have hit. Walking around the car I see the bumper was starting to pull away from the fender. The bumper was caught on a 3/4" piece of rebar sticking out of the concrete parking stop. We had to lift the bumper off the rebar so we could back out. I filed a report with the assistant manager and she said someone would get in touch. 2 days later no calls. I contacted the general manager and he told me I would receive a call from his regional manager-no call. Called him back next day-told I would get a call within 30 minutes. Yep no call. So I called him back and was told he left message for his manager to call him and once she did he would instruct her to contact me. So it's now 8 hours later and no calls from either. So either she never called him or I'm getting run around. Either way not a place I will do busy in ever again.

Whittier was named the strangest town in Alaska. And there's also the old saying, "It's always…read moreshittier in Whittier." That's mostly a reference to the weather, but really most of the town looks pretty dumpy. The kindly description for the Harbor Store is that it's a well-worn small general store. And given the location it's probably not reasonable to expect much better. Given the Alaska state law forbidding alcohol sales in grocery stores, it's probably the only place in town to buy package liquor. The selection is sparse. The end of the building that sells the booze is actually a separate business. You can't go into it, but you can point to stuff you want and buy it that way. The rest of the place is the predictably unpredictable collection of seemingly random foods and tools and this and that. The store in the Anchor Inn has more of everything... except knives and booze
