We stopped at the Trail Lake Lodge on our way to Seward from Anchorage. We were so impressed! It is a very clean bar/restaurant/hotel that is family owned. Staff were super friendly with excellent service. I had a fried haddock sandwich with fries while my husband had a hamburger with a side salad. The sandwiches were huge and I ended up not eating all of the bun. They were very reasonably priced. We enjoyed the food so much we returned for breakfast today- again, the portions are very generous and gave us the fuel to get through a busy afternoon. Highly recommended! read more

The worst food I have eaten. We are locals and stopped here coming back from fishing from Seward. Usually can find a good lodge and food that is great. The place is run down. Awkward set up. Sat at the bar, ordered a mushroom burger. The only thing I tasted was mushroom. The meat was Absolutley flavor less. I couldn't eat it. I tried salt and pepper. I asked for mayo as the burger had nothing on it. The server looked around and threw two old mayo packets that were dusty alone and off on a windowsill. I opened one and it was runny, watery. I ordered a twister creek and the taste of that beer was disgusting. We ended up making sandwiches on the boat before we left. Avoid this place. It's bad. read more

When there's only 3 restaurants open during the winter months, "beggars can't be choosers" or something like that, but let me tell you this place was absolutely delicious. The server crushed it, considering we came in an hour before close with 8 people. Stopped here on a whim after exploring some trails in the area. They have Alaska Brewery on tap. We were hoping for some local Cooper landing brews unfortunately. We both ordered the classic burgers. I didn't care for mine, the cheese was put on too early so it was entirely melted and had no taste to it. I ordered onion rings as a side and they were delicious. You get no shortage of your side. I had a lot of leftover onions rings and my partner got fries as a side and also couldn't finish them. We split the pie of the day - chocolate mint. I thought it was pretty good. Tasted like it was made with peppermint Pattie's. The best part of the experience was our server. She was very friendly. Kept our drinks filled. And checked in on us enough but not overly. This motel has seen better days. The rooms are minimal at best. Bring water or your own glass, these rooms come with no coffee maker, no fridge, no microwave, no cups for drinking water and no Kleenex. They don't serve breakfast and they don't start grab and go breakfast until 8am. You can order your grab and go and get it the night before, but with no fridge that doesn't exactly work either. This restaurant is clearly where the locals hang out and the vibe is they know you're bring income to the town but they'd rather you didn't stop here. read more

Trail lake lodge is a great little stop on the way to or from Seward. The town slows you down to 25 mph and you should stop. A full bar and with ample seating. We enjoyed the fried rock fish (or cod whichever they caught that day) and a burger. The fries were crispy and the local beer was cold. Fun signs around the bar will keep you entertained. Went to have lunch Sept. 2nd with two friends & was looking forward to the yummy burgers they make. I used to be a cook at this lodge and enjoy stopping by occasionally when I come to Alaska to visit. I arrived before my friends and got a table in the totally empty dining area. There were some people over in the bar area so I waited for a server to come through so I could get some water while I waited for my friends. I heard the cook ring the "order up" bell and figured someone would come by shortly. They didn't. My friends arrived; I had been there 10 minutes. We waited and still no server. Finally after 5 more minutes went by one of my friends went into the bar to ask for someone to help us. That order that was up was still waiting and probably not hot anymore. We waited 5 more minutes, and finally a heavyset woman with dark hair came up to our table. She literally slapped the menus on the table and barked "Do you know what you want?" Well, obviously not, that's why we needed a menu! She didn't offer water but instead went and picked up the waiting food order and rushed past us into the bar. We'd had enough and decided to leave and go back to Seward and get lunch there. Totally rude waitress and I knew our food wouldn't be hot if we did order. The thing is we would have probably spent about $80, recommended the establishment to my friends, and gave them return business if things had been different. I wish I could give more than 5 stars!! We stopped here for dinner on our way to Anchorage from Seward. I got the char boiled salmon with warm Brussel sprouts and fries ( instead of mashed potato es). I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of these three items. I am someone who finds it difficult to finish any meal, but I ate everything and the plate was clean!! That's because the food was sooo good, and I took my sweet time to eat every bit of it. (My husband did steal some fries, Brussel sprouts and fish from my plate ;) ). That should tell you how good the food is!! And their fries - simple, crisp and perfect!! My husband ordered cod quesadilla and he loved it. The staff here are so friendly and accommodating, with always a smile on their face. Got to the lodge after a long day and found our door would not lock. We were staying 2 nights so we would be without a locked room 2 nights and all day while we were gone. They called maintenance and he confirmed there was a problem but assured us we were in a safe area. Completely unacceptable. They did not offer to fix it so we could stay the second night. Drove 40 minutes to another lodge. The rest of my group stayed and did not enjoy twin the twin beds. Would never recommend this place. read more

Our family hosted a family reunion at Trail Lake Lodge. They catered a Saturday night dinner for about 90 people and it was AMAZING. I admit I'm a little bougie, from a foodie city and accustom to some amazing cooks in my life and this lodge really made our family dinner special and delicious. I thanked the owner personally. Execution, customer service, quality of food, everything tasted great and I was impressed. The view of the lake with float planes parked, backdrop of mountains and watching the Alaska Railroad Trains go by was magical. I didn't actually stay the night at the lodge but a lot of my family did. You are in a town of 200 people, that was founded around 1918 to support railroad workers. . . it isn't the Four Seasons, its Alaska . . its going to be rustic. I have to say thou the bedspread was super soft. Very eclectic rooms. Not where I'd usually stay but if you want history and off the beaten path then there it is! Thank you! read more

Service was really slow but the food was good. We both ordered a cheeseburger which comes with a side of fries, onion rings or salad. I got the onion rings which were some of the best I had and my wife had a side salad. Side salad comes with croutons which I am certain are made from the hamburger buns. They were fine but I just wanted to point that out in case someone was expecting sourdough or some fancy croutons. Burgers might be the best in AK, but I really enjoyed mine. Considering the remote location, I would call it a successful outing. The place was clean, has a nice lodge feel and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. This is a totally kitschy Alaskan lodge, but in a clean and fun way. And the food is excellent. We stopped here on our drive from Seward to Anchorage and we were thrilled to have some really good food. We ordered salmon, brussel sprouts, Caesar salad, chili, hamburgers, and apple pie. The salmon was the best we have had so far in Alaska. The chili was spicy but delicious. And definitely don't skip the brussel sprout appetizer or their homemade pie. Both are worth it! Just came home from our stay at Trail Lake Lodge and we absolutely loved it. Booked 15 rooms for 6 nights for our crew. The staff provided us breakfast at the beautiful lakeside pavilion every morning which was a huge hit. Each night we would return to the lodge and eat at the restaurant where we once again were greeted by friendly staff and prepared another great meal. The property itself is situated on a beautiful lake with plenty of trails nearby and only a 40 min drive down to Seward. The rooms are a bit small but they do their best to upkeep them and keep everything clean. The biggest thing I noticed was that the staff was willing to do anything they could to help, don't be scared to ask! Thanks again everyone! We all hope to be back next time for fun rather than work. read more

My husband created a reservation on Booking.com and seconds later realized that the system populated the wrong date. He immediately called the Lodge and told the gentleman he made a mistake and asked to reschedule. Not only did the owner/manager refuse to refund (he gave back half, which was $68.00, but wrote this to my husband: "Oh yes, I offered you two rooms at a discounted rate of $99 a nite vice the $1 nite for your party of three and guess you didn't want to stay here really anyway." Very quaint rustic lodge located on the shores of Trail Lake in Moose Pass Alaska. This establishment is clean and comfortable, the wait staff was very courteous and informative. Joy and I were doing a beautiful weekend drive north of Seward, we decided to have a bite to eat, somewhere we can stop in for a burger. TLL has been a place in my experience to have good food. But like some establishments that are seasonal when summer returns sometimes the good food and atmosphere do not. Not so was the case with the Trail Lake Lodge, in fact I'm going to say it seemed to upgrade a little. Regardless the food was fabulous as was the service an atmosphere. I ordered the Black and Bleu cheeseburger with no bun and my love order Bacon Cheeseburger for a little extra more as is the norm we substituted our fries with sweet potato fries that were hand cut. And get this the patty was actually handmade and not a Costco wannabe burger, crazy, I know right. This sucker was thick and had actual juice flowing from it... double crazy! We finalized it with a inhouse made rhubarb & strawberry pie that was so big they put it in a bowl. To wrap it up this place very good eats and you'd doing yourself injustice by passing this place up, especially if you're very hungry and for real food. Onion Rings are amazing as well, ranch dressing I believe is homemade. Very friendly owner and staff. We couldn't have been more pleased with our choice to have our August wedding and reception at Trail Lake Lodge. Everything was wonderful - the serene setting, the food, the owner and staff. Our wedding ceremony took place right on the lakefront behind the lodge, and the reception was held in the beautiful wood pavilion right on the lake. It was picture-perfect! All of our guests enjoyed the delicious salmon and prime rib dinner prepared by the head cook at the lodge. The owner and staff truly made it feel like our special day in giving us their full focus by not hosting any other events or groups on our wedding day, and by adding special touches in preparing the pavilion for our reception. They were also very easy to keep in touch with for planning and communicating details in the months leading up to our wedding date. The owner had told us from the beginning that they would do everything they could to help make it our special day to remember. I ordered a well-done classic burger with cheese and it was absolutely perfect. The onion rings rings were crispy and delicious. The nachos were like the greatest you don't even need hot sauce from there so good.
