Staff was patient and helpful in answering my husband's many questions -- he does not like to look at information online before coming. We got a cabin within a few minutes walk of the main lobby. I misunderstood the thermostat and thought it would cool the cabin while we went out for the evening, but when we returned it had actually warmed the cabin. We had to open the window to cool it because we are used to sleeping in a cold room. The Lodge bus took us to the Seward marina & downtown for dinner & walking/ pictures. Next morning we walked 5 minutes or so to the Resurrections Roadhouse for breakfast. The "buffet" was scarce and about the same cost so we ordered a la carte. I got the Bear Creek Bowl with Alaskan Salmon Lox. There was hair on the sheets which the house keeping took care of but the room had such a bad smell that we opened the window and let it air out yet didn't help! Disgusting place! There was hair on the shower curtain as well and the toilet smelled too. Very unclean. The rooms are very dated but also lack maintainence above all. The shower curtain has red mold or whatever it is and it's so gross that I didn't want to shower here. Fast forward I open the towel and there's hair in there too! How DISGUSTING!! Also the room is dusty!!! If you have dust allergy, good luck! The lamp has so much dust on it, the window pane was gross with black dust. The heater doesn't work properly either! Called front desk and all they said was sorry. Better to sleep in the car than be in this gross room breathing in the mold and smell. I wonder what it's doing to my health. This hotel needs to be shut down by the authorities unless they at least offer basic hygiene.

The sleeping arrangement is perfect with all the beds upstairs and very nice blackout curtains. I was worried about the near-constant daylight but had no issues sleeping. The cabin is equipped with a wall heater that makes things surprisingly toasty, even at night (we came when lows were in the 40s). The mini kitchen works wonderfully for simple meals and breakfasts. The mini fridge is large enough to store several meals (4 dinners and 5 breakfasts) and has a small freezer compartment. The kitchen comes stocked with plastic utensils (metal available upon request), mugs, a coffee maker, coffee, tea (herbal and black), sweetener, and creamer which was a pleasant surprise. You can also request a kettle and/or toaster. The host/owner is super sweet and lovely to chat with. There's a wide selection of movies in the main house to use on the cabin's new TV and DVD player. There are also plenty of books available to borrow. We had a small issue with our water going out one night but she was able to reconnect us to cold water within 15 minutes and the hot was fixed overnight. The property uses well water so it was an issue with the pump which is totally understandable. The care and speed with which she handled the issue was impressive and made my experience outstanding. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others!

Over the years, there have been changes, but the dining room for the most part remains the same. Big light and airy space, with massive picture windows looking out over Summit Lake, and it's a beautiful view. There's a cosy seating area right at the entrance with comfy couches to relax on. If you can get a window seat, it's well worth it. Swallows swerve by the window with mere inches to spare, catching insects on the wing, it's quite a sight while you wait for your food. It has a rustic, log cabin Alaskan feel, but the napkins are fabric, the glassware is nice, and servers are in uniform. The menu is hard backed so it feels sophisticated. I ordered coconut shrimp from the appetizers menu, which came with some kind of special dipping sauce, and I got some French fries on the side. Husband ordered the Garbage Grinder burger and a salad. The shrimp were ok, nothing special, the dipping sauce was based on orange marmalade - I didn't enjoy that at all. The fries were ok. His Garbage Grinder burger was insurmountable in the state it is presented, there is no way a normal person can fit that in their mouth. It must be 6/7 inches high. He had to remove some items to make it thin enough to get it in. Whilst I was eating, a couple were seated on the table behind us. I didn't think my chair was sticking out that far, but this woman, when being seated, kept whacking her chair into mine, forcing me to push my chair in really tightly, which I thought it was rude and inconsiderate, as a normal person would say "excuse me, could you pull your hair in a little" but she just kept battering my chair with hers until I moved. We were obviously in very close proximity, and I heard them say they were tourists, from out of state and had just got married, and would they comp the meal? This was prior to even ordering, and not because anything was wrong with the meal, just merely because they had a strong sense of rude entitlement. You got married, why are you entitled to a free dinner? It was irritating. But obviously not the fault of Summit Lake Lodge. Anyway the server promised to ask her manager. (Who refused to comp the meal, but did offer a discount) Anyway, it's a beautiful place, in a beautiful location, you're paying for an experience, not just the food - which is slightly above average. The service is impeccable, the views are stunning, and an influencer's dream. The menu used to have a lot more items on it, simpler things - I had my first ever Reuben here years ago and it was amazing, but you can't get it anymore. It seems to change annually. I am on a 100 day tour around Alaska and Canada and have travelled through the south eastern islands / marine highway and Haines Junction / Tok by this point with no issue. 5 nights booking. Stated in booking I had mobility issues. Did not check until I arrived then they downgraded me to a room on the second floor via elevator. Would they come get me in an emergency? Would not have chosen this hotel if I couldn't get the advertised room. The given room only had a single handrail in the bathroom a distance from the toilet or sink. The shower was not step-free but mostly step-free. There was no rubber mat. The breakfast was very difficult to use with a walker and there was no assistance. On 3 occasions non disabled guests parked or blocked the disabled spots, raised with front desk, did nothing. On two of those occasions the lots were also full and I had to walk with my walker a significant distance in the rain. They had company vehicles blocking spots preventing me entering and others leaving and when asked if they could move temporarily I was told no. On third occurrence of disabled use/blocking informed them if I see it again I will be contacting police. Supervisor told me he was unaware of these issues which means they must have never raised or discussed them among themselves. He got sarcastic with me and told me I should call the police right now. I said it's your hotel I'm doing you a courtesy by telling you and not calling the police but I will the next time I see it. I left the hotel at this point as I simply don't know if I can park there or trust they would rescue me. DO NOT STAY HERE Attached are some photos showing these issues

Tl;dr - adorable, but some sanitary issues…read more These cabins are an absolutely gorgeous and well-priced getaway. The king bed was lovely, and with a microwave AND minifridge, you've got all you need for a great home base to explore Seward from. Even on a drizzly trip, the rain on the wooden roof is exceptionally romantic to just stay in and enjoy. Still, with the current state of the world, it was hard to not have some concerns. We weren't provided any soap to wash our hands with, which is fine because I carry hand sanitizer, but did raise a bit of a question mark about their procedures for mid-pandemic. There were also quite a few errant hairs left behind in the shower from the previous occupants (both pink and curly black; my partner and I are blondes) which worried me in terms of how much deep cleaning was getting done between people checking out and checking in. We ended up leaving earlier than planned due to this concern. I'd definitely come back and stay again, but when it's a little safer to do so. I didn't see any evidence that they were prioritizing health & safety of their customers over profits, and I know there are some other places in state that are spacing out rentals so there's at least a day between. I'll probably stick to those for now.
