Gayle and I had a very enjoyable recent 3-night stay at the Seward Windsong Lodge. We were there as part of an Alaska Railroad package tour. In other words, we really have no idea how much we paid for this stay. A nice bonus here is that our bags were tagged and transported separately to the Hotel and then back to the Train Station a few days later. And once back in Anchorage, there they were. This is a huge property with various "apartment" buildings spaced throughout a scenic woods environment. Our stay was in an upstairs double room in the Rosemary Building. That's a bit of a hike from the very spacious and comfortable front lodge building or the Resurrection Road House, but we always enjoyed the extra exercise. On that note, this place on Exit Glacier Road is out by its lonesome, and save a highway walk down to Salmon Bake (the only other nearby restaurant and well worth the trip), pedestrian options are limited. At the same time, the Lodge does run a regular shuttle that will get you to either the Small Boat Harbor, the Sea Life Center Downtown, or the nearby Safeway. Tip: Arriving by Train and going straight to the Hotel puts you at least a couple hours before official check in time. Hotel staff were very nice and they will store your bags either in this situation or on get away day. In both cases, we took the shuttle and wandered around town. In hindsight, maybe we should have booked a tour on that first afternoon. Note: Wi-Fi reception for Seward in general and Windsong in particular was mostly underwhelming. There's a remoteness factor here, with my only frame of reference being my last trip to Iceland where Wi-Fi reception was impressive.

Staff is Amazing. Property is spread out and tucked into the woods giving it a cabin, rustic feel. Depending on what building you are in... you may or may not have a little bit of walk to your room. Thankfully (since we'd had a really really long day), we didn't have to schlep our luggage to our room. The very nice bellcap took it (and us) to our room in a van. (However, to check out we did roll our bags to the lobby on our own. No biggee.) The lobby is spacious and has a lovely waiting / lounging area. Plus in the AM, they also have a coffee bar that makes lattes and the like plus has some grab-n-go quick snacks, sandwiches. Keep in mind, there is 1 person working this coffee station and he is often SLAMMED 7-9 am. Go after 9am when all the guests leave for tours and whatnot, and it'll be much quicker. We went at 9:35am and got our drink in 5 minutes. The property has a restaurant. I highly recommend making reservations. The bar area is small and it's first come - first serve, so it's IFFY if you'll be able to quickly grab a seat. Full menu in the bar area if you luck out. The patio of the restaurant isn't huge either, but it's quite lovely. The rooms were good - nothing particularly special. There was a little fridge, but to re-heat anything you needed to go to the lobby to use the microwave. There is also a little coffee (single cup) maker in the room that works well. The coffee / sink counter is in the 'bedroom side' of things. The toilet and shower/tub are a tad tight and separated from the bedroom. Lighting in the room was good. The WiFi was pretty good, but seriously we only used it to post pictures at the end of the day since we were there to Enjoy and Experience and try to disconnect as much as possible. The TV worked really well for the little that we used it (just in the AM as we got dressed.) This property is NOT in the main part of town. It's about 2 miles out. Can you walk to town? Sure... but it's not super close and there are not sidewalks nor trails. (And there's lots of cars / trucks on the road so it might not be the safest.) The Good: They have a shuttle that stops at the local Safeway, the sea life center and at the harbor master's office. The Bad: The shuttle runs once an hour, so if you miss it... you're waiting. This property is CLOSE TO: - Seavey's I-Did-A-Ride - The Salmon Bake - about 1/4 mile down the road... be careful walking as cars / trucks are zooming on the main road. This place is super popular, but we weren't able to try it due to timing. Darn. - The crepe place - about 1/2 mile away.... down the main road and turn left down another little road... again, be careful... This is Totally worth the walk! Crepes were fantastic!

We enjoyed a nice, quiet stay here for two nights. It's an expansive property with beautiful views. We stayed in the Lily building. The room is fairly large and comes with a TV, DVD player, refrigerator, portable fan, hair dryer, and coffee maker. The "bathroom" sink is located in the main area next to the beds. It was somewhat difficult to use the sink area to get ready without turning on lights and disturbing someone who still may be sleeping. Housekeeping services only are available upon request. The property has Resurrection Roadhouse, which is a restaurant and bar. The lodge offers a shuttle to town that has 3 stops. The drivers are friendly and accommodating. One driver dropped us closer to our destination even though it wasn't one of the stops. The shuttle leaves every hour on the hour. It picks up in town around the half-hour (depends on the stop). It runs until at least 10:30pm. I had limited interaction with guest services, and they were friendly and helpful.

What a special property! Comprised of several multi-room buildings with a large main building on a beautiful piece of property, we would stay there again in a heartbeat! We were picked up at the train by lodge transportation and our luggage was promptly delivered to our rooms. They also brought it to the van when time to leave. The restaurant on property (walkable from the lodge) was excellent. We ate in both the dining room (gorgeous views) and the more relaxed bar area. Really good food! We relaxed in the main lodge area, with a roaring fire and a wonderful coffee bar. The art work on the walls (available for purchase) set the tone for the area. I could go on and on about how nice and helpful everyone was while there. Don't miss the opportunity to stay at this wonderful place!

Our group had 6 people and the room that they recommended us to book is perfectly comfortable for our 3 days trip in Seward. We had 2 queen beds and an extended sofa beds. They provided room services everyday. Very nice and clean. Super close to the glacier and kennels. Very nice and calm area

One of the better hotels during our Rail Tour of Alaska. Rooms are spread about the property in separate buildings in the spruce forest. Bags get checked straight to the hotel by the train, and leaving. Easy and makes moving about easy. It is in fact a lodge outside of town about 2 miles, access by shuttle. We were late arriving because the directions to the pickup spot (by the rail company) but the desk staff was ready for us, and our bags were waiting. The room was clean and functional. Not fancy but in line with what you might find at a national park lodge. A negative; only one (expensive) place to eat and when we arrived for dinner we learned it was packed and at least an hour wait. We opted for the bar, where were got the same dinner in about half the time. Because of the remoteness there were no other good eating options. IF you were staying multiple nights you could easily take the shuttle into town for restaurants, and more choices. By all appearances this was the best run place we stayed during a week in Alaska. Had it not been for the limited food options, and shuttle confusion, would have been five stars. We liked the feel of the place.

This review is for the lobby employees, porters and espresso operator lady! We spent a approximately 2.5 hours here....staging our luggage to be stored and then transported by the Seward Windsong Lodge. They did a great job keeping all the passing through tourists like us reassured that our luggage will get to the correct cruise ship and on time. We enjoyed the fire place and the espresso bar while we waited. Had a capachuino and some blueberry muffins. Great customer service!

My room was like a Motel 6. Outdated, smelly, shower slow to drain and sink was in slept area. I was charged $600 for 2 nights. Rip off.

I am on a 100 day tour around Alaska and Canada and have travelled through the south eastern islands / marine highway and Haines Junction / Tok by this point with no issue. 5 nights booking. Stated in booking I had mobility issues. Did not check until I arrived then they downgraded me to a room on the second floor via elevator. Would they come get me in an emergency? Would not have chosen this hotel if I couldn't get the advertised room. The given room only had a single handrail in the bathroom a distance from the toilet or sink. The shower was not step-free but mostly step-free. There was no rubber mat. The breakfast was very difficult to use with a walker and there was no assistance. On 3 occasions non disabled guests parked or blocked the disabled spots, raised with front desk, did nothing. On two of those occasions the lots were also full and I had to walk with my walker a significant distance in the rain. They had company vehicles blocking spots preventing me entering and others leaving and when asked if they could move temporarily I was told no. On third occurrence of disabled use/blocking informed them if I see it again I will be contacting police. Supervisor told me he was unaware of these issues which means they must have never raised or discussed them among themselves. He got sarcastic with me and told me I should call the police right now. I said it's your hotel I'm doing you a courtesy by telling you and not calling the police but I will the next time I see it. I left the hotel at this point as I simply don't know if I can park there or trust they would rescue me. DO NOT STAY HERE Attached are some photos showing these issues

Also being separate from the main house, if you're having a long stay, this would be ideal as you won't disturb anyone with comings & goings. There appeared to be 3 of these cottages. In the main, there are 5 bedrooms, ALL with private bathrooms! :) Soo makes a terrific breakfast that's included... forget those scrawny little donuts or cold cereals you'll see at a hotel. She also knows the local area & can tell you about discounts and things to see. When we arrived, she showed us the code to get in, the etiquette (removing shoes- great cleanliness idea in Alaska), and showed us around her beautiful home. Soo also used to live in Anchorage, where my sister still lives and I used to, and owned a sewing shop. Soo is kind, gracious and staying at her home is FABULOUS!

The low tide has a separate bedroom and bathroom and a small living/kitchen area with a nice little fireplace. The theme is nautical decor throughout and beautiful photography from landscapes in Alaska. One of the coolest things was the ceiling in the bedroom and how the bathroom shower is set up. The towel holders were actually oars and the handles of the doors are an actual cleat hitch. Pretty neat and creative! This is by far the cleanest nd nicest place I've been to, with an amazing view as it's practically right across the street by the water. No other place in town can beat that. The kitchen area has a small fridge stocked with OJ, milk, coffee creamer and butter pats. There were three types of cereal, all fully stocked and super delicious and healthy. The coffee was phenomenal and there were packets of tea and spiced cider. The architectural details of the Low Tide room really made me feel at home. For Sewards gray skies, the Low Tide has bright, airy colors that feel Southwestern. The craftsmanship is flowing; the ceiling has delicate arches with wooden beams, similar to a nautical feel (this personally makes me feel I'm Italy because they loved curved ceilings.) Oh yes, and the bathroom is phenominal...I guess you just have to be there to understand. Furniture is higher-end, and they have a great economical water heater (heated water on demand). My fiancé and I stayed here late June in 2020. Since the trains were not running currently, the lodge was even more secluded than usual. It usually has up to 16 guests, 8 cabins, on site and when we were here, we ended up only have 4 guests there. As soon as we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and the manager, Brandon, introduced himself and stated whatever we wanted or desired they would help achieve that or come close to it. He stated he or someone else would always be available for questions or concerns, and he did not disappoint. The cabins were beautiful and cozy. There are no outlets in the room which we did not mind as the main area has plenty available. I was able to charge my camera batteries without an issue as well. Wi-Fi worked great in this area but not in the cabins, so needing to charge your phone while in the cabin was not necessary. We stayed at the puffin cabin which had a great view of the bay and the lake just behind the cabin where we spotted river otters and baby ducks. The chef was from Vero Beach, FL which is close to my hometown. His cooking was phenomenal and kept you excited for the next meal. This is top dollar dining at its finest, no meal tasted the same and the meals were well executed. I am a self-proclaimed "foodie" and would not be this kind if not so deserved. Brandon told us about a hike, a bit on the challenging side, was available for us and explained how to get there and where to get some great views/pictures. This hike was not even recorded on my hiking app, All Trails, so I added it for others to use as a guide. Fox Island flora and landscape is like nothing I have ever seen, its damp and brittle which can make or break this hike from moderate to challenging, especially with the steep incline. On our second day there we were unable to do kayaking secondary to the tour personal being exposed to COVID, so precautionary measures were taken. Although at first this really bummed us out, we asked if they had any fishing rods which we could use to try to catch fish. Luckily, Brandon was on it, and an employee had a couple rods and lures for us to use. The chef brought us out to the "spot" on the end of the bay where the employee stated he would catch rock fish, and boy did we! (and when I say we I mean my fiancé, all I caught was seaweed and kelp, whoomph). The chef cooked the rock fish for dinner and it beyond delicious, reminded me of grouper and kind of looked like it too! We also got a show when the chef put the rock fish scraps back into the ocean and watch 2 bald eagles fight for the winnings--just WOW!! Brandon also told us if we were feeling up to it, we could jump off the dock into the frigid Alaskan waters, and you do not have to dare me to adventure. It was a beautifully warm day, and although my limbs went numb as soon as I hit the water, as soon as you get out you are instantly warm--so STRANGE for this Florida native. Every night they offered a beach fire with smores which we gladly accepted. The staff was cautious wearing masks when around guests and I never once felt unsafe. The day out you enjoy a 5-hour boat ride to explore the Fjords and see wildlife, we saw humpback whales, plenty of seals, puffins, an enormous number of seabirds, and the Aialik Glacier. The captain of the tour boat was incredibly knowledgeable about the Fjords and the boat was big enough with a catamaran style hull that allowed its massive boat to take on waves, so that I never once felt seasick. The beauty of Fox Island, the delicious food, and the attentive staff with opportunities for adventure, and the enjoyable Fjords boat tour allow me to absolutely recommend this lodge. The price is beyond worth every penny. I would ask that the lodge acquire more fishing equipment because this activity became a highlight for us both and think future guests would appreciate it as well. Stephen and I thank the staff for everything they did for us while we there and making the last bit of our Alaska trip incredibly memorable.

They have complimentary breakfast and for the rest of the evening they have cookies, brownies and refreshments available for you in the kitchen. The viewing deck overlooks the mountains and water. You can walk down the beach to see even more. If I come back to seward I am picking this place to stay. For the other reviews saying the rooms are small and the road is a little rough, this lodge is in Seward Alaska, which is a remote place. We would travel a bumpy road again and again to stay in this place and the rooms were perfect. The service is superior compared to other places to stay in Seward. Saying this, sorry other people this is not a big city hotel. This is a small town with southern hospitality and it's amazing!
